However, our server was still able to take our orders and bring our meals within a reasonable amount of time. Overall service was good. My eggplant parmesan was delicious and presented on a bed of green beans which was new to me. My wife had a Caesar salad and a cup of clam chowder. I really wanted to like this place, but it ended up being a miserable experience from start to finish. We waited almost an hour for our food, and unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait. The food was incredibly bland and didn't taste like authentic Italian cuisine at all. The trio plate was especially disappointing. The Alfredo had almost no sauce and absolutely no flavor, and the pesto tasted like it came straight from a jar. Overall, everything was just mediocre and lacked the rich, fresh flavors you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. The service was painfully slow throughout the meal, and to make matters worse, there wasn't any wine, beer, or other alcohol available, which was surprising for an Italian restaurant. The dining room was also uncomfortably hot. It appears they only use wall-mounted air conditioning units, and they weren't keeping up, making it difficult to enjoy the meal. The only reason I'm giving this an extra star is because the green beans served with the chicken Marsala were actually pretty good. My fiancé and I drive by Nona's often and finally decided to try it out. It was a nice quiet Thursday afternoon, so we were quickly seated. Service was great! Our server was very attentive and made sure everything was well. We had the Nona's trio + side of grilled chicken, chicken marsala, and the dragonfruit Italian cream soda. The Nona's trio was delicious! Creamy, light, and the flavors worked well together. 10/10 The side of grilled chicken was very juicy and cooked well. Our only complaint was that the sauce was too sour for our liking. 8/10 The chicken marsala was also delicious with a creamy and savory sauce. The chicken was soft and cooked well. It also came with a side of crispy roasted potatoes and sautéed green beans. Thoroughly enjoy eating at Nona's. I have been here a few times and the food is consistently delicious. The restaurant is clean and provides an intimate environment to have a nice family dinner. You can taste the quality in the ingredients, well balanced sauces and fresh produce. Our steaks were cooked perfectly to how we ordered and the garlic butter on top took them to the next level. The minestrone soup was a great starter, warm and comforting, note that it does contain meat. My husband ordered a Caesar salad as one of his sides with his steak and it was huge and delicious. We left full and with a ton of leftovers. There were a few other families in the restaurant, but I hope they continue to get consistent business. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Nona was disappointing from start to finish because of the lack of customer service and hospitality. Our waitress barely checked on our table throughout the meal. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, but it came out burnt. When we sent it back, instead of apologizing or offering to replace it, the waitress told us it was supposed to be that way because otherwise "the tomatoes would make it soggy." That response was dismissive and unprofessional. Things got worse when our entrees arrived. One of the pasta dishes had a large pool of oil underneath the pasta. After only a few bites, I noticed how excessive it was and asked the waitress to take it back. Rather than addressing the issue, she told us we would be charged because the dish was "half eaten." She never offered to remake it until we specifically asked. After speaking with the kitchen, she came back and said they would charge us both to remake the dish and for the original one as well. Charging a customer for replacing a meal that was prepared poorly is unacceptable. Throughout the entire experience, it felt like there was an excuse for every issue we brought up instead of any effort to resolve it. Rather than listening to our concerns or trying to make things right, the waitress became defensive, which only made the situation worse. Good customer service is about finding solutions, not adding fuel to the fire. To make matters even more uncomfortable, we could clearly see staff members watching us from behind the counter and in the kitchen while whispering to each other. It made us feel unwelcome and judged instead of cared for as paying customers. If this restaurant wants to succeed and keep customers coming back, they need to invest in customer service training. A restaurant's reputation isn't built on food alone it's built on how customers are treated when something goes wrong. Building positive relationships with customers is what earns repeat business. For a family-owned restaurant that's still establishing itself, hospitality should be a priority. Right at entrance to this location we were hit with a foul smell in resemble to a bad sewer line. Lasted about a good ten minutes. Pushed through that and was able to be seated and placed out drink and food orders. We were the only guests in the restaurant during our while visit. Our meal was decent as we chose to share a Wagyu burger and some fries. Service was fair and nice for this visit. This is an establishment I'm sure does well. I was so excited to come here and try it but it was definitely a fail. Idk if I just picked a bad day or what. My pasta was so greasy I couldn't eat. Ate the chicken but I should of just not. The other people I was with complained of their chicken been thick and hard due to being over cooked. So dinner was definitely a fail. Positive points the mussels were good, bread good, tea good. I was really disappointed with my experience here. If I could leave negative stars I would. The customer service was honestly some of the worst I've had, and the food definitely wasn't good enough to make up for it. The restaurant was also uncomfortably hot. They only had wall-mounted AC units, and they didn't even seem to be on, so it made the whole meal pretty uncomfortable. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and the chicken was extremely chewy. It honestly looked and tasted like soggy frozen chicken tenders that had just been thrown into the pasta. Definitely not what I expected from an Italian restaurant. We also ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, and the bread came out completely black and charred. When we mentioned it to our waitress, instead of apologizing or offering to replace it, she told us it was supposed to be that way so the tomatoes wouldn't make the bread soggy. There's a difference between toasted and completely burnt. Later, my aunt had an issue with her pasta because there was a large pool of oil sitting in the dish. Once again, instead of trying to fix it or offering another option, the waitress immediately dismissed the concern and said it was supposed to be like that. Every time we brought up an issue, it felt like we were being told why we were wrong instead of anyone trying to make things right. To make matters worse, after we spoke up about the food, it was obvious that staff members were talking about us and repeatedly looking over at our table. Whether they intended it that way or not, it made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome for the rest of the meal. I understand that mistakes happen, and no restaurant gets everything right every time. What matters is how those situations are handled. Unfortunately, every concern we had was brushed off, and no one made any effort to fix the experience. The fried chicken in the pasta was soggy instead of crispy because it had absorbed so much oil. When I brought it to the server's attention, her response was simply, "It's supposed to be oily." I barely touched the dish--I only moved the pasta around to show her the amount of oil sitting at the bottom of the plate. Despite that, she told me I would be charged for the original dish and for the replacement. Good customer service means listening to your guests and making a reasonable effort to correct a problem. Instead, I felt dismissed and treated unfairly. The food here was FANTASTIC. The bread of the bruschetta was the perfect texture--the bottom was crunchy enough to hold everything up, but the top was nice and soft with a little toasting. I had the pasta alla carbonara and the pancetta was perfectly crisped but still had a chewy bite to it! So heavenly. And the pasta and sauce were so rich. We were very pleasantly surprised. Our only small complaint was the service. Our server seemed pretty slow to do everything, only working on one table at a time. She may have been new, we weren't sure. The restaurant feels cozy, welcoming, and clean, with comfortable seating and a warm, homey vibe. The big windows and lights make it feel open and relaxing. The food was excellent. The pesto pasta, Alfredo, and lasagna were all flavorful and fresh. The salad was generous and well made, and the calamari was crispy without being greasy. You can tell the kitchen cares about what they're making. The only thing that could be better is the service. Others with us had lasagna and egg plant parm. We also had warm bread really good and brshetta. No alcohol especially wine is a turn off to any Italian restaurant. That is like pizza and no beer. I kept driving past this restaurant so I decided to try it out. The place is casual, modestly decorated. The hostess told us that they've been open for about 3 months. We ordered the calamari appetizer. Comes with tartar and cocktail sauce. Our orders came within a reasonable time. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had the lasagna which my daughter liked. My wife had the chicken florentine which unfortunately tasted bland. I enjoyed the chicken picatta; I wish the chicken had been grilled instead of pan seared but it tasted good. It also came with really good fried whole potatoes. Overall the food was good but couldn't ignore heavy cooking fumes coming from the kitchen. Perhaps their smoke hood wasn't working ? My friends and I have a great experience at Nona's restaurant. I thought it was a bit pricey as some entrees like the pasta trio (pesto, pasta Alfedo, and lasagna) did not come with a salad or veg. I had to choose my salad separately for an additional cost. However, the servings were very generous as well as the Caesar salad size. Evcellent food! Beef dishes, seafood dishes, vegetarian, etc. I am from an Italian family and the meat sauce in the lasagna was delicious! Many restaurant seem to use the red marinara sauce. Came on a Saturday at 5, the place was pretty empty (not bad thing). I ordered fried calamari, minestrone soup but they only had beef soup. Chicken parmesan, steak, soupa de mari, and the lasagna. We tried Nona's for the first time this evening and the food was good. The restaurant is still new and it seems that they are still getting settled. The vibe was a little sterile but I'm sure it will warm up as time goes on. As of now, they don't have a beer and wine license yet. The service was great, very attentive and the food was good. My husband had the lasagna, which good and very filling. I had the carbonara which was very rich and definitely on the salty side, I could only finish about half of it. First time ordering from them, got ravioli which was pretty small portion, fettuccine Alfredo another lunch size serving but the absolute worst part was nlot being able to open the green bean, cannoli or tiramisu containers! They must buy them on the very cheap from china cuz there are no lips to grab to open them so after trying multiple times to open all three containers had to throw them out after trying to open with butter knife, then a screwdriver and finally steak knife er with no luck. Over $25 wasted. And BTW the tiramasu is the smallest piece we have ever seen and the most expensive from all other Italian places around town. Of course we couldn't tell what it taste like cuz we never got the damn containers open. And we both almost broke our fingers trying over 45 minutes trying to get containers open. if you want value for your money they are not the place to go especially when you can't open 3 out of 5 containers cause these people are so cheap they buy substandard food containers. We are Italian and my grandma was named Nona also but they are embarrassing to my own grandmas name. I've visited Nona's several times since it opened -- during opening week, a few weeks later, and again months after -- and one thing has been consistently excellent: the food. Everything I've tried has been full of flavor, clearly made with care, and the portions are generous. The pricing also feels very fair for the quality and quantity you receive. I've recommended this place to multiple people, and they all loved the food as well. That said, the one area that has been inconsistent for me is the service and unfortunately, this has been the same experience for the people I've sent there too. On each visit, it has taken a long time to be acknowledged, to receive drinks, and to place our order. Once the food arrives, the staff tends to disappear and doesn't check back in, which can be a bit frustrating especially since the restaurant has never been very busy when I've gone. I genuinely believe this place has huge potential. With food this good, Nona's could easily rival the top Italian restaurants in town. I do think some improvements in service, atmosphere, and visibility would make a big difference. The décor currently feels a bit cold and doesn't quite give off that warm Italian restaurant feel, and the restaurant doesn't seem to advertise or have much of a social media presence, which might explain why it's often so empty. I really want to support this restaurant and see it succeed, especially as a family-owned business with such great food. I truly hope the owner reads this! In any town you should always compare yourself to the competition. Less than 2 mi down the street is arguably one of the best Italian restaurants in this region. They have it all ambiance, service and too notch food. This place I will rate them below: -Ambiance 1 I will give you the 1 because it was very clean, but nothing that screams Italian. Too bright and playing modern hits? Hmm... -Service 1 she took my order and that was pretty much it and even forgot my salad. Absolutely no personality. -Food 2 for the following reasons ...bread ice cold, calamari frozen and didn't taste that fresh. High point was the actual pasta and that would lean more to a 3.5 star. You can have ok service and amazing food and be ok but you can't have lousy lack luster service with lack luster food that isn't a winning combination. I should've know that walking in on a Saturday night at 6:45 that this place was dead as a sign to leave. The only reason I tried to come here is because your competitor down the street was over an hour wait for 1 person. Plus how do you have an Italian restaurant with no wine or beer? After eating at Pietro's several times we discovered Nona's and for me it was hands down better than Pietro's. The flavors and seasoning here at Nona's was out of this world Flavor and seasoning is the number one most important for me. Nona's seasoning of their food is heavenly. I think Nona's is my new GO TO spot for Italian food in Lodi from now on & the bill was 1/4 of what Pietro's changed plus we got better flavor. Try Nona's out and you might agree with me. I'm so glad this restaurant opened in Lodi. It has amazing comfort food. I can tell these dishes are made by someone with a passion for good food. Just the vegetables alone was impressive. I've received fresh vegetables that are steamed perfectly or grilled with the charred corners. By the way those are my favorite of the vegetables so far. My favourite dinner so far is their Chicken Parmesan. I've got that with the spaghetti with red sauce and also I tried the Alfredo and this last time I tried risotto instead, every one of those were good each time. My boyfriend loves the Lasagna. He also loves the grilled vegetables and crosses his fingers that those are the veggie of the day when we order. Most of the time we order delivery through a 3rd party app. This option has been great. The prices seem to be the same as when you're there eating in the restaurant. Besides the fees for delivery etc., I remember being satisfied with the cost. The food always comes HOT and ready to eat right out of the bag. The amount of food is generous and I really don't have anything negative to say about Nona's at all. We have had dinner in the restaurant 2 times before and each time was great. The 1st time was right after they first opened so they were still figuring things out but things were still great. The second time we went it was after they did some more decorating or remodeling or something because it felt more comfortable and cozy in my opinion. My boyfriend said he didn't notice a change but do guys usually pay attention to stuff like that. I know something was different though. I will most definitely be back for more food from Nona's because I'm excited to try other stuff on the menu. There is many many options that look tasty and has sparked my curiosity so I need to check it out further.
