We waited over 20 minutes for two cold sandwiches despite the restaurant being nearly empty. When the food finally arrived, the sandwiches were cold, bland, and lacked flavor. Considering the prices, I expected much better quality and freshness. What concerns me even more is the way the owner responds to negative reviews. Instead of taking customer feedback as an opportunity to improve, many of the responses come across as defensive, dismissive, and disrespectful. Reading those interactions makes it seem like customer concerns are not taken seriously. I don't mind paying premium prices when the food and service justify it, but neither did in this case. It's been too long but we're back at Nicky's Italian in the College Square Shopping Center. This time, we are diving head first into their caprese salad, spicy penne a la vodka that's spiked with Italian sausage, and spaghetti and meatballs. All were served with their delectable, house-made foccacia bread. The caprese was a shingled array of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil pesto with a drizzle of EVOO and fresh basil leaves. Scrumptious! The penne was al dente, just how I like it. The sauce was bright and vibrant and the sausage was spicy with chili flakes and flavorful. I was so excited to come try this place as soon as I saw it on Yelp and realized it was an Italian-deli sandwich / restaurant situation. It did not disappoint! I got the Chooch, which is a vegetarian option on the menu and it was great! The fried eggplant was thin and crispy. The balsamic glaze helped to balance out the sandwich. I like that you can taste the fresh quality of tbe ingredients in their sandwiches. I can't wait to come back and try their pasta or truffle fries eventually. Wish they had unlimited fountain drinks instead of cans. But happy they have Coke products!! They forgot to give our salad. Refunded us for the salad. Served the meals fairly quickly. The spaghetti and meatballs were good. I don't think I would order again though. But would encourage people to try the meatballs. They were hearty. The spaghetti sauce was good both were missing something flavor wise but still very good. Now the spaghetti alfredo on the other hand was outstanding. I swear it was some of the best Alfredo sauce I've had. I'm not expert by any means but in my opinion this Alfredo sauce was top tier. Garlicky just salty enough, thick and packed with flavor. I ordered the Hot Chick sandwich, which comes with a chicken cutlet, mozzarella, arugula, tomato, Calabrian chili mayo, and hot honey on a hoagie roll. I also tried the waffle fries topped with grana, garlic, and hot honey. The fries were excellent--crispy, flavorful, and with a nice little kick from the hot honey. The sandwich was generously sized and full of great flavors, though I do wish salt and pepper were available, as the chicken cutlet could have used just a bit of both. They offer a good variety of hot and cold sandwiches as well as several pasta options. You order and pay at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. WOW glad I randomly checked Yelp and saw this new Italian spot. They do sandwiches, pastas and more. I got the spicy penne a la vodka with Italian sausage as well as their You Fancy sandwich with their chicken cutlet. I do wish their Spicy Penne a la Vodka was more spicy though. Didn't really taste much heat. Also maybe it was just luck of the draw but the soda I pulled from the fridge wasn't really cold. Maybe it had just been restocked? As for the sandwich I had no complaints there. I ended up buying a different sandwich, the B Dawk, to go for my parents and they enjoyed it. So far I'm pretty impressed. It's only their 2nd day and they said they've had some trouble but they were great and my food was made well. Cute little spot with a good amount of tables for couples. Not only did they mix the dressing inside, but gave an additional cup to add, which I did because the dressing was great. My wife had the Sinatra, and my son the Jawn. The spot itself isn't large, so plan on waiting if you eat in. It was a little warm inside, their A/C was lacking for sure, only downfall. The staff were all working hard, cutting fresh meat, preparing meals, all working hard. The sandwiches were all fresh, you could taste it in every bite. At the beginning of December I found this great sandwich shop and thought to give it a try since for me a a good sandwich is a go to. Not only have I continued to go back and try everything on the menu that I can try because I have yet to find something that isn't good. Even as Christmas came and their menu also includes pasta dishes, and salads and amazing chicken piccata. We ordered this for our Christmas dinner and it was absolutely fabulous. Ok let me start by saying the food was fantastic. The rating does not reflect the food whatsoever, but it does reflect the ambiance. I had a bad experience only due to a homeless lady being in the restaurant. She smelled terrible, and kept scratching her ass crack from the inside. Using her dirty fingers to touch the inside and outside of the doors and the chairs inside. That just turned me off from the food. I lost the taste of my palette when I was eating the sandwich due to the homeless persons smell. Anyway, enough of the rant about why I gave the restaurant a lower rating. We ordered the Mama Jo's Spaghetti and Meatballs, the 9th Street, and the ND3 with turkey for take-out. Mama's Jo Spaghetti - This dish was flavorful and well-balanced. The red sauce was delicious, and the meatballs were tender and tasty. The spaghetti noodles could have been a bit more al dente, but overall it was a solid, decent pasta dish. 9th Street and ND3 - Both sandwiches were good. They had classic flavors and were satisfying, though the fillings felt a little minimal for the price. Overall, a nice restaurant/eatery with friendly service and enjoyable food. So we go to Planet Fitness and have seen Nicky's but had never eaten there. Then at Christmas, my sister-in-law gave us a Toast ecard for Nicky's. We decided to check it out this afternoon and man, are we glad we did! A bit small but conveniently set at the corner of the strip, the spot has a great vibe; You feel like you wandered into a quaint Italian deli in New York complete with amazing sights and smells! We decided on our menu choices and sat for a bit while the food was prepared. A steady stream of customers kept on coming in to order, which was impressive given that it was between lunch and dinner times. We didn't eat in but took our food home. Once we tasted the food, we were amazed! The combination of flavors is to die for. We were each only able to have one half of our sandwiches ( leftovers; yay! ) and one of the meatballs. We will most definitely be back for more as the pasta choices looked fantastic. Highly recommend this spot!! Sandwich is of good quality. Can't say about service as there's not a lot of talking. But $17/$18 dollar for a sandwich is really high, especially when there's less meat than what is shown in a picture of the same sandwich I order on google/yelp. Plus drink, that would be over $20. Either those sandwich with more meat are geared towards food influencers/friends or I'm just unlucky. There's only a couple slice of meat in my sandwich, finish it, and still hungry. Glad that I at least give it a try since it seems to be popular but the price is just too much in this economy. A small sandwich or whole plate of food at another location for the same price? Actually Nicky's Italian looks like the Winchell's/Capitol Donut floor plan with Italian prints/decor, casual tables but clean. Service was ok. You order when you enter at the counter and they bring your food to the table. Don't expect any other service. They don't refill your water, don't ask if you need anything , so I won't be tipping 20% again. I think I was expecting service like at Prime or Market Tavern since the chef was part of ownership there. The "You Fancy Sandwich" my son and I ordered were great. My wife's Fusilli Pesto was delicious. The truffle fries were good. Mozzarella sticks actually looked homemade. Thus a step above a cafeteria for service, but most importantly the food was definitely very good and worth going back. I would have given them a five if the service was better. The sausage that comes with it was nice and tender. Fussili truffle cream- mom enjoyed it as well! I tried few bites you can taste the creaminess and the truffle.
