Note, the bike only cost me $95.00, so to me a brake job 1/3 the cost of the bike was uncalled for, especially since it was done for safety reasons for a youth bicycle to remove the trick brakes on this BMX style bike. read more

This shop was formerly Howard's Athena Cycles which I've been going for awhile. I was a bit apprehensive about the new owners, but found out they genuinely live and breathe bicycles! Five stars for service. I don't live in Studio City but I make the trek out to this bike shop whenever I need a repair because I trust the employees. I initially visited this bike shop looking for a used bike between $250-$300. Most of the bikes they had at the time were upscale road bikes which did not fit my budget, but the employees suggested that I go to play it again sports down the street and come back with a bike if I found one I liked. They offered to examine it and give me their professional opinion before I committed to buying it. Being a new biker, I was very grateful for their suggestions and willingness to help me. Luckily I was able to find one within my price range and I brought it here to make sure it was in good condition, get it tuned up, and buy accessories. The employees were very knowledgable and made the whole process relatively stress-free and exciting! I have gone back several times for minor repairs and I'm always in and out quickly. Bobby from Studio City Cycle is so down to earth, I pay a visit at least once a month when I have business in the area, and whether it's a shirt, helmet, bike gloves, locks, baskets, parts or as in this case an actual bike crane that holds the bike at eye level while I work on mine. Today is the day that I pick up my stand as I have been so busy and was out of town, Bobby allowed me to leave it in his shop upon purchasing as I wasn't in driving my truck. All this place needs is a coffee shop and folks would be hanging around all day just because all the guys are so nice. I could not tell you of a better shop as well as sale items. After about a three month wait for the restock of Woom bikes online, then a month for it to actually ship after the drop, my son finally got his first bike last week. Unfortunately he broke his wrist in late June from a scooter accident. The doctor gave him the green light to cautiously resume activities last Friday and he literally learned how to ride a bike in less than 30 mins - calling it the best day for his life! Well the next day he went to take it back out for another ride but the front tire was completely flat. I had him try to use the pump but he told me it deflated immediately, so I knew a new tube was needed. My next work day off was Tuesday so I took the wheel off and drove down to the shop around 11:30am. Due to COVID, you had to enter the shop through the back. The sign out back was great! "NO MASK, NO TASK"! I let the man know I needed a new tube, was out of there in less than 5 mins. I wanted to look around some more since I'm interested in getting myself a bike after 30 some years but there was a gentleman with his daughter waiting and I didn't want to be rude. Hoping it was a great learning experience for the company. This review is overdue but here it is... November 13: Called Studio Cycle to ask if they are authorized to send Cannondale lefty forks to the Cannondale headquarters for repair. Steve insured me that he would send the fork in the day I brought it in. Sounded promising so I was excited. November 16: Called to inform Steve that I would be bringing in the fork the next day. He ensured that he had a box that would accommodate my lefty fork ready to go. He then restated that the fork would be shipped out the same day. November 17: Dropped the fork off. Steve never gave me a receipt for the transaction. For all I knew, I just gave away a lefty fork for free. No way I would prove that the fork was mine at that point. Both Cannondale and Steve stated that the fork rebuild turn around times would be at most 2 weeks. Understanding that Christmas was in season and the Cannondale facility was dealing with snow storms, I allowed up to 3 weeks. Come around 3 weeks, I called Studio Cycle asking for my fork. Steve then forwarded an email to me that stated my fork would arrive by December 15. In actual fact, that was an estimated date my fork would arrive at the Cannondale facility, not return back to me even though he claimed that was the return date. I called them 3 times a week. The owner Bobby responded by saying he would send me a tracking number for me to check the return of my fork. Bobby promised me 3 times, never sent it to me. After several phone calls, and creative lies such as "It's Christmas season, due to high demand for Christmas gifts being sent out, the shipping company is late on delivering your fork" said by Bobby, I was done with contacting the bike shop. I then directly reached out to Cannondale themselves, spoke to Megan Archer (amazing customer service) in which she informed me the fork was sent out Dec. 17 and was delivered Dec.19. THE FORK WAS KEPT A FULL MONTH AT THE BIKE SHOP. NOT ACCEPTABLE BY ANY MEANS. I informed Megan, and she put in work to cover the bike shops mistake. She got my fork back to me soon after I spoke to her. January 12: I finally picked up my fork from the shop. Had a conversation with Steve in which where he apologized and took full responsibility for his actions. I respect him for that. I am one that believes in supporting small businesses, specifically small bike shops. I fully understand the stress and busy lifestyle employees and bike shops can go through. However, all I expect is being truthful to your customers and doing exactly what you promised. None if which was fulfilled. In the end, this was a learning experience for all. Steve and I ended it on a good note. Everyone makes mistakes, therefore, I will be returning to this bike shop in the near future, seeking a better experience than last. Thank You read more

Admittedly, I screwed up my discs and paid a lot (but a reasonable amount) for new discs on my Santa Cruz. After getting the repair done, the discs STILL whined -- making any attempt at riding maddening! The shop adjusted. I rode. It was bad. And then the shop adjusted again. I rode. It was bad. And finally, after a week or two, Bobby, the shop owner, adjusted. I rode. It was good. There are two points to the story: 1. Adjustments are always needed. 2. This is the kind of shop that has said and will say (if they serviced the bike), "Bring it back in; let's get it right!" Bobby and the crew have earned my business since (with new XTR and SLX) and I'll continue to go back to Studio Cycle. That's the long and the short of it. read more

I'm from the Pacific Northwest, where we're crazy about our bicycles, like a fat kid on cake. So my 4 stars may be a bit biased. I actually became a client purely by help of the Yelps peeps (so thank you all), so of course it all goes down hill I will come back to blame you all as well. :) This is probably the smallest "specialty" bike shop I've ever been in, but it was a pretty efficient transaction nonetheless, which is the most important part. I am very pleased to be writing this positive review. Bob and the other dude (sorry I cant remember your name) we GREAT. Here's why... I had picked up a new bike off of craigslist, and this bike is sweet, except for the gear size was too small for me. I couldn't generate any speed with this tiny gear. I had been riding around all day, visiting various bike shops in the valley, I had ridden about 20 miles and had stopped at at least 5 bike shops when I finally got to Studio Cycle company. I didn't even know they were there when I rode past it on Ventura, I figured since I had already gone to all these other bike shops and since I was here I might as well check it out. Bob immediately greeted me with a genuine smile and asked me to bring my bike in side. Super nice guy! I asked him if he had any 48s because my gear was too small. He had it in stock and for much cheaper than all of the other bike shops. To put it into perspective, all of the other shops said that they would have to order this somewhat common part and the prices ranged from $65 to $200. Bob had EXACTLY what I was looking for for $45. He said I can put it on for you right now and it will only be an hour. Well I couldn't have asked for better service and better price and it was a blessing that I came across this bike shop. I cannot recommend this shop enough. I was delighted by them. Even though it is not the closest bike shop to me, Studio Cycle Company is my favorite bike shop in LA. read more
