It's been months since I've been to Savvy at the Automall. I was a regular Savvy customer at its past whereabouts in Fremont. This review will be about two things: the Automall venue and about my stylist Joel. The Automall venue, first of all, has lots and lots of parking... you can choose to park at the front, the back and at all the other sides. It's located in a very busy, commercial, high traffic and popular part of Fremont. You can do all your shopping and have some styling on the side, just a few meters away. This location has the same color theme (purple) as with its previous site and life. I still remember those chairs, those purple floral chairs, they look familiar. The big mirrors are there again, I love them for they are full length, and these give me a feeling of wholeness and fullness. I mean you're not just styled from head to head, you are styled based on your entirety, and the mirrors help you see yourself styled in full. Full length mirrors can provide a major accent to the whole elegance of salons, i tell you. But the complimentary accent which I found appealing was the brick wall. They are actually real bricks and have the texture of real bricks. The rusty red bricks nailed down the salon's SAVVY character right away....in my mind. There's an overload of blank, clear glass walls on the west side of the salon, which is not very liked by everyone including the stylists....for the setting sun's glare is too much to tolerate. I wish, on my next trip, to see either blinds or roman shades up there to shield customers from the afternoon sunlight. Now, let's focus on my stylist, Joel. I requested for a Brazilian blowout, but Joel gladly offered the permanent straight. I agreed and he started the work. It was a good 2.5 hours of washing, treatments, straightening, drying, washing again, more treatments, and Joel, with his fluid, masterful moves made me transition....again, into this elegant human being. The "Joel experience" happened once more. As always, Joel, the stylist, delivered the best service that I have ever encountered during my 14 years stay here in the bay area. Joel made sure that he is listening to me as a customer. He made suggestions in a professional, skillful and proficient manner, not offending me or my wallet. Joel can get intensely involved in such a way that he would style you based on your personality. He can read your style in a spontaneous manner, and the style flows into you spontaneously, fluidly. It's so magical . And, Joel is always ready to provide technical answers to my technical questions. So I really felt that I got what I paid for. It will be criminal not to consider having the "Joel experience".... even once in your existence. read more

Can't believe this salon has five star reviews. I went there for the first time for a simple hair end trim request to not cut too much length and make hair curl inward. Not only my stylist cut off my hair shorter than expected, now my hair curls outward on itself all the time. Soooo disappointed. Ive got curly hair and was nervous about the big chop, but Patricia did a wonderful job at cutting my curls and I've fallen in love with my curls again. Daniela is an absolutely amazing stylist. She does such a great job on men's hair. If this review was for her alone, I'd give it 6 stars if that was an option. I was going to savvy for 6 or 7 months and every haircut I got from Daniela was perfect. The problem was the whole scheduling thing. She's so booked up that you have to make your appointments a month in advance to get a timing that works for you.. And if something happens like she needs to go out of town all of a sudden or she gets sick, then you're kinda screwed. That happened to me a couple times, and it's tough because they'll call you the day of or day before and be like, well her only next available appointment is next thursday and 11am or something like that. So it got tough to keep going there. The last haircut I had at Savvy was one I had scheduled more than a month in advance to have done 3 days before my cousins wedding... And Daniela got sick, which is of course understandable... But she had no availability any time before the event, so I had to go with whoever was available in the salon to give me a haircut. They always recommended one person when Daniela wasn't available as someone who did good mens cuts... I don't wanna call the stylist out, but it was honestly the worst haircut I had received in probably a 10 year period (which is when I had last gone to a SuperCuts). I went home and spent 2 hours fixing my haircut. He couldn't even make my sideburns match. On the sides of my head, one side was probably a half inch longer than the other, which looked ridiculous. And he spent forever to barely even trim the top. So, that's why I stopped going there... It was tough to not be able to reliably make appointments and not have them cancelled or have them try to get you to change them every month. But if you can get in with Daniela, she's the best. read more

She is excellent with color both base color, low and highlights. Her hair cuts are amazing. She's really good at blowing out and styling very thick and Curly hair. I seriously need to write a review about the great experience I had today at this salon. I came in hoping I could get a balayage done but Patricia was very honest about how bad the condition of my hair was (bad ombre from another salon). She insisted that I just get a trim to take off my horrid dead ends (and keep this up until my hair is healthy again). After thinking that was it, we decided to go with coloring my hair to a darker brown since it was previously ruined by another salon and then I dyed it over-so the color was very inconsistent in my hair. Seriously, Patricia made a HUGE difference to my hair's color and condition and I absolutely loved it. My hair is soft, shiny and sleek; the color that she put was even and nice; plus the styling was amazing, making my hair super bouncy and light. Yes, I was disappointed that I couldn't get my balayage but the fact that you have a stylist who seriously cared about the condition of my hair and did not want to rip me off is something I truly appreciate, especially since Patricia did a fantastic job. DON'T LISTEN TO HATERS ON HERE! A reportedly bad experience with one stylist (post pics????) doesn't mean the whole salon is the same and you should write off the whole establishment...dduuhh! ANYWAY.... I chose Daniela because of her stellar Yelp reviews, she get's five stars just based on her awesome personality! She's very personable...now the hair...She did exactly what I wanted, appears highly knowledgeable and she looks great! I want a stylist who has great hair because then I know they'll do me right! We are moving toward the hair color I want because I have to gradually go lighter, I like that she didn't want to do too much to my hair and risk drying/ruining it. Linda the owner was quick to reply to my Yelp'ing and I was able to get a very last minute appointment with Alex, on a super busy wedding weekend in Fremont! The salon is super cute and chic, located in a great area and easy to find. As a fussy customer, I shared my specific requests with Alex, who heard me out patiently and nailed the look I wanted. Her blow outs are fantastic, I got a handful of compliments that night at the party :) She also uses top of the line products which held my hair and the look in the crazy heatwave, flawlessly. I feel soo fortunate to have found JOEL from Savvy hair salon. In the past I have had hard time to find a good hairstylist that styles based on my requirement. I yelped, googled and finally found JOEL. I thought of trying with him and took an appointment with JOEL and met him at Savvy hair salon located at Automall. I explained to JOEL my requirement and my past experiences with many hairstylists and salons around. He listened to me so carefully while I am talking. Then he washed and started working on it. He almost took 1.5 hours for washing, cutting, styling the hair. He is very keen in each and every detail of the hair. I was soo impressed after seeing that he was abe to deliver. And you know what he said after such a good first experience- "I think I did a good job but may take couple of more haircuts with you to get used to your hair completely". I told him "No dude you have done a spledid job. This is what I have been looking for a long long time". He has delivered the best haircut I have ever had in my 10 years of life in United States. He is very skillful and works based on what customer wants. From then on I have always been having haircut only with JOEL and didn't think about trying someone else. After trying lot of hairstylists before meeting JOEL, I can profoundly say he is definately the best men's hairstylist in the area. Now speaking of the salon, there is lot of positive vibe in the place. They maintain the place sooo clean and hygenic. And the place has good natural light which makes me feel good whenever I go there. People who work there are friendly and listens and understands our requirement. They give their suggestions about what makes you look good. And they also listen to our opinions which is very important in a hair salon. One more good thing is, they call us 1-2 days before our appointment to remind about apointment. Even if we are busy in our work life and don't pick up their call, they leave a voicemail as a courtesy reminder. Also the location of the salon is so close to coffee shops, restaurents, target, costco, Century theatres etc. We can finish lot of our shopping either before or after our appointment. I am glad i found this place to get my hair done. Raquelle was beyond helpful and honest to me. I was due for re-toner for my grey hair color. She informed me every step of what she would have to do to my hair which is a good thing. Her suggestion to had my hair conditioner was the best. After 2 months not maintaning my hair she brought it back to life. Even my grey. She did a great job. I how professional and friendly she is. Don't go to Giavonna for extensions. It pains me to write this review because in no way is it against Savvy, which I was going to for 2 years with no problems. I wanted tape in extensions & was referred by my stylist to the new girl Giavonna. First red flag: I met Gia for a consultation on Thurs May 3rd. I explained I wanted the longest length, wanted purple and if my appointment could be in a week for install. Her words "I only use this particular brand (never gave me a name) of pretreated colored hair, will use 22-inch (I believe, or 20) and by the looks of your hair I'll need 3 packs. We can have appointment next Thurs 10th but I'll have to rush order hair so it'll be $660 ($60 rush price & $600 for 3pks of hair) total for hair and I'll need half as deposit now." She would not let me buy my own hair to bring in, just an immediate price quote she seemed to know without looking at any website or order form. $660. I should have said no but kept with appointment because I really wanted extensions and honestly, did not do my research. Day of appointment, second red flag. I brought my own Pulp Riot purple & blue dyes to touch up and agreed to an Olaplex treatment. As she started I asked "Can you give me an idea of today's cost so I can move some money around." Her response "I don't discuss numbers until I'm done." I regret staying and not trusting my gut. About an hour into appointment I again asked for just an idea of today's cost, which again she said "I don't discuss numbers until I'm done." After Olaplex, wash, dry, install of extensions and a "trim" to blend my hair with extensions I got the final price. $762 balance. I couldn't breathe. I understood the other $330 of hair balance but she then broke down that I received a "hair cut", Olaplex product, wash and dry and "I would have charged you more but your brought in your own color." $1092.00 for 3 packs of hair, Olaplex, trim and install. The last red flag...she never explained that pretreated extensions are 75% real hair & 25% synthetic. All she told me was "use heat spray when styling." Never warning me of high heat tools on synthetic hair. After 2 weeks of styling, my ends became extremely dry & brittle. As the weeks went on the dryness went up the hair shafts to the point that the ends would not take in water, wouldn't take hair masks, unstyleable and I had to cut off the dead hair. 20 inches down to 10 inches. This exceptional hair she ONLY works with was a waste. I have since went to 5 different salons in Fremont/Newark area. After explaining my story, all salons SHOWED me (without hesitation) their wholesale vendor price lists to see that pretreated colored hair from 16-22 inches cost from $110-$135 each pack. All salons explained the mail order turn around is 48 to 72 hours without a rush. I gave Giovanna a week, so why the "rush" extra price of $60? Her outrageous $660 price was ridiculous, let alone the rest of the $432 of balance. I have only myself to blame for not doing my research but HOW she handled the consolation, she never gave me a brand name or website to verify hair prices, and how she refused to give me a quote "until I'm done." That ordeal was in May and today is 9/13/18, I'm still making payments on that credit card. I haven't been back to Savvy since and taken the extensions out myself. For $1000 I could have taken a round trip flight to Atlanta and bought a styled human hair, custom dye wig from Cardi B's wig stylist instead. read more

They absolutely butchered my hair! In desperation I went up to a stranger in a supermarket to ask who did her hair ( she also was blonde) She gave me her cousins card which was "Linda". What a find this gorgeous lady is..omg I absolutely love her..she fixed my hair from the terrible state it had been left in from the other 2 salons and I love my color! She really listened to what I wanted and she still made me look awesome! I had a lot of split ends and i thought that I would have to chop all my hair off to make it healthy but Jojo was able to cut my hair, keep my length, and still manage to get rid of all that dead hair.
