Staff is extremely nice and friendly. French onion soup was okay. The Caesar salad came as 5 big leaves that you had to cut yourself. With anchovies that I bought on the side and had to incorporate. My husband finished almost all of his hamburger before I was done prepping the salad. Everything was fine. Just disappointed. read more

I loved this place, even though I had not had good references for it. The steaks are prepared perfectly as requested. My husband and I dream of their creamed spinach and scalloped potato sides. It's a small menu, but they do it well and the service is good. My only criticism is that everything is served with green beans which are very undercooked. I can overlook that. Was looking forward to a nice steak here after a day of leaf-peeping. It's a huge building...seems like the restaurant is in the basement part? Anyway, didn't have reservations, so even though the place was half-empty, the hostess said she would have to check and see if she could seat us, since they were short of wait-staff. She was able to seat us at high-tops in the bar...a little bit of an issue since my wife has trouble with high-top tables. But we were hungry so settled in. Entrees looked interesting, but nothing on the appetizer menu jumped out. Beer menu was stellar. We decided on the Bone Marrow Porterhouse for 2 ($90). The poor bartender was completely maxed out, so she wasn't able to make it to our table very often. The steak and sauces were fine...I might quibble with the portion size for the price, but it was fine. Desserts were also decent. The problem was the service due to being understaffed...so we left feeling we had a decent meal, but it would have been much more fun if we weren't waiting for service as often. read more

As we pulled up it looked promising, cool decor, a sprawling set up, a big long horn statue, rustic chic interior. we sat at the bar and the bartender, Lindsay came up to us immediately, and asked if we were getting drinks or food. We said food too, and she promptly responded; "ok well we close at 8:00, so if you're eating too I need to know like right away." I've waitressed before, for years actually, and I don't think I EVER could have even formulated a sentence like that while working for someone else's business... as a bartender.... I why are you working as a bartender if you think you're going to be out by 8 on a holiday weekend??? I was very VERY put off by this. The food was awesome, the drinks were good, but like.... Lindsay you have one job and its to tend bar... I will be calling the owner as well. Thats just not how you conduct yourself in the food industry. I've left work hours after I was scheduled to, because people came in right before close. Its a fact of life as a server. The establishment is literally 4 mins from Old Sturbridge village. Hats off to the entire staff, and especially Mike serving us at the bar. The shrimp cocktail was just outstanding. It was cooked and presented perfectly. The sweet potato carbonara that my wife had was excellent, and my rib steak with bone in, was perfectly cooked along with an oversize order of mashed potatoes and green beans. I like my steak, cooked rare, and so often it may come out, medium rare and unfortunately many times well done. This was cooked exactly the way I asked for it, and it tastes was just unbelievably good. After eating such a filling, in extremely large meal, we decided to have dessert, and I'll tell you we were up pleasantly surprised, and overwhelmed by the crème brûlée, just awesome. We had the poutine as an appetizer, it was probably one of the best, nothing fancy, cheese curds and gravy, but delicious and the fries were perfect. Great meal but the service definitely was lacking especially on a meal for 2 that was $200. I'm giving 3 stars because of the service and that my wife's meal came out cold. My filet was excellent and the truffled potatoes gratin was amazing. My meal was served warm but not hot but I like it tgat way. The bone marrow butter was good but I liked the demi-glaze better for the steak and the side of mushrooms was good. My wife's ribeye was great too after they brought a new one out due to her whole meal being cold the first time. Our service was lacking on the fact we were seated almost 25 minutes before we even had waters or drinks. We ordered soups and our soups came out and we still had no Silverware yet. We had been seated almost 40 minutes by now. We had the flag down our waiter for refills every time even though he walked by us constantly with our glasses empty at the tables edge. We then waited approximately 30 minutes after our soups before the meals came out. The manager gave us each a free dessert to compensate for the cold meal wich was nice but almost 2 hours for soups and a meal was ridiculous and they were not full. Let me preface this by saying I've spent 25 years in hotels and restaurant service so I know how things work or don't. We Drove 1.3 hours from the north shore to meet daughter and granddaughter for a Christmas dinner since they were leaving for Florida the next day. We've met at this steak house several times before (precovid) and had fabulous dinners and great service. It was 2:30pm dining room was less than 1/2 full. We were crammed into a tiny table comfortable for 2-4, There was 5 of us. When I asked if we could pull over another empty table right beside us? We were denied. I was Told all 8 empty tables surrounding us were all reserved. NO ONE ever came for those tables in 3 hours!! We were handed a tiny menu with only apps and sandwich. No Steaks!! ITS A STEAK HOUSE!! Those empty 8 tables remained EMPTY for the entire 3 HOURS we stayed. It took that long to get drinks apps and sandwiches!! Our food was underwhelming. My chicken sandwich was so dry I topped it with my salad dressing to choke it down. Our waiter (turns out he's the manager) was clearly overwhelmed with a function up stairs leaving little time for the dining room. Not nearly enough waitstaff and the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full. The kitchen couldn't handle more than apps and sandwiches? Pitiful. Why take reservations when you have NO WAITSTAFF to service your tables?? Why didn't you tell us you had only a pub menu when we made reservations??? You wasted our very Long Drive and ruined our Christmas dinner! I've never been so disappointed with a restaurant where I've always had amazing dinners in the past. We will NEVER be back. So disappointed. read more

My friends wife had the wedge salad with shrimp and there was nothing to complain about. The presentation whet the pallet in anticipation. Desert should have been shared as they served the largest crème brûlée I've ever had. I would be remiss if I didn't give kudos to the bartender for a fabulous Basil Hayden old fashion and a house special walk don't rum cocktail! Initially taken aback by the pricing, it became apparent that quality reverberated throughout our meal from cocktails to dessert. While the menu isn't kid friendly, for a date night or anytime you want a quality meal, this should be on the top of your list. read more

Sturbridge Porterhouse has always been a phenomenal spot for dinner. I've been quite a few times for dinner, but I took my boyfriend for the first time for date night. We opted for two appetizers, the brussel sprouts and the bone marrow, both which were very generous portions. We had both never tried bone marrow but it was fantastic! The brussel sprouts come in a large portion and didn't even want to share, they're that good. For entrees, I got the ribeye and my boyfriend got the strip. I ordered bleu cheese butter on the side to accompany my steak but did not need it at all. The char on the steaks were perfect and they had a great taste. For the quality, they're priced very reasonably. If you go, the potato gratin with truffle oil is a must try. The dessert menu looked very tempting but I was super full so I opted to drink my dessert and ordered a toffee martini, which was absolutely delicious. First off all I want to say I didn't have any problem with the service. Friendly staff, but I am still very very unlikely to go again. It was so expensive for what it was I just couldn't enjoy my meal. I stopped here at about 6 o'clock on a Saturday. Two adults and a three year old. We asked to be seated outside but we were told it's reservations only on Saturday which didn't seem to make sense, because the tables outside we're not full even when we left an hour later and there was plenty of staff on hand. I asked for a booster seat for my daughter, but all they had was this flimsy portable umbrella chair that popped open to put on top of a regular chair. The indoor seating was fine. No spectacular views or anything. Service was good. The prices are pretty unreasonable even looking at non-steak items. I had some real sticker shock when I looked at the single page menu and the prices were so high I wanted to leave, but when you have a hungry young kid sometimes you have to bite the bullet on stuff like that. Thank God they had a kids menu because I was about to pay $16 for mac & cheese for a three year old. If you're bringing two adults and a kid here absolutely do not expect spend less than $100. The lady and I got two drinks each, she had an entrée, my daughter had a kids meal (water for a drink), and I had an appetizer as an entrée to try and save a buck. The tab was $75. No appetizers for the table, no desserts for anyone, $75. I gave a 15% tip and walked out of there $90 lighter than when I went in. Again, none of us even had steak. If you're going in there looking for steak and a couple drinks expect to spend expect to spend $50 -$75 per person or more. I can think of several restaurants off the top of my head where for that money we all would've eaten significantly better in a similar or better atmosphere. read more
