The staff here is so friendly!!! We came in for lunch with my grandson and they insisted on giving him his noodles for free and even gave him seconds !! they have sub sandwiches and great stir fry dishes so you can get a little of both cultures. The food is not that great! Salad was yellow rotten lettuce and the chicken was raw in the middle. The customer service is bad when you ask ANY questions about the food they get very defensive! I have been going to this place for lunch since 2010...at some point along the way I always ask for no onions, no tomatoes and would like pickles instead. They charge extra for pickles so I've always felt that if I take off onions and tomatoes I shouldn't be charged for the pickles. I am also a very good tipper because I appreciate them doing this. Well today I was acosted by I guess the manager saying that I do this everytime I come in here. This was probably the 4th or 5th time in 7 years, I don't eat there that often and I don't always get a sandwich...and he's like, yeah, you did this to my parents too...so I'm guilty because I thought it was reasonable to do a 2 for 1 exchange. He said he loses money even though my tip which is usually very generous would more than cover it. I'm certainly not going to tell anyone to not go there. The food is good and usually they are very nice to me. It's not even about the money just fairness. So tomatoes and onions combined is worth less than 4 little sliced pickles and he will go broke if he doesn't charge me is the way he put it. I don't know if he banned me permanantly but he said he doesn't want my business so I will not go there anymore...again, nothing bad to say about the place, just surprised that this guy decided to pick on me on my birthday... read more

Went here with a group of friends and we tried many items on the menu, all of which were delicious. I started with the a green curry chicken and rice which was great. We also had their homemade Zuppa Toscana which was equally delicious. We then split several sandwiches which were all great. Additionally, we had an order of there teriyaki chicken which was perfectly cooked. The service was friendly, quick, and efficient. I went here for lunch after a coworker recommended them to me. I ended up getting a whole veggie sub on wheat. It was pretty tasty, and I liked the addition of cream cheese instead of the usual cheddar or Swiss. They were nice enough to add bell peppers since they ran out of cucumbers. Also, it should be noted that the sandwich was huge. I could've just gotten a half and still would've been perfectly satisfied. For $6 something for the whole sub, it's a pretty awesome deal. I know there's also a Subway nearby, but I'd rather pay the extra dollar and some cents for a better sandwich. Didn't hurt that the people that run this place were super nice! Ok, so I know why this place is so popular because of 2 things: The location & the sandwiches. Let me explain. The location plays a big component in to why this place is busy. There's not really much around this part of industrial Portland. The options are limited. Admittedly, if I worked in this area, I would probably frequent it quite a bit, because you can only have so much McD's before you want to take a bullet to the head. The second major component for its popularity is the portions. The sandwiches are huge! And for those who work in the area, it takes a large meal to satisfy you with the amount of hard work you're doing daily. This place will definitely take care of that hunger. Here's the thing, if this place were anywhere else in the Portland area, it would more than likely be struggling with the amount of sandwich options that are out there. This place harkens back to another era. An era when we didn't mind processed cheese slices on our sandwiches and we loved bologna. But most of those types of shops are long gone. With sandwiches coming a long way, it was disappointing to me to eat the sandwich. It did however bring me back to my childhood but let's be real, we now know what goes in to processed foods, and I'm not down with eating that. So, if you're looking for a large sandwich reasonably priced, or your out of options in that part of Portland, or you simply want to travel back in time and be reminded of a long gone era, than this place is for you. This is my go-to spot for lunch. They have a chicken teriyaki special for $5.99 that is plenty of food, and you can upgrade to a larger size for a few dollars more. For review # 958 I decided to review this place and its tasty, heated pastrami 'wich, in honor of Yelp Legend Chuck B. Chuck left us to join the great review board in the hereafter a little over a year ago, and #958 turned out to be his exit number on El Camino de la Vida. There were few things Chuck loved more--aside from God and She Who Must be Obeyed (patent pending)-- than a great reuben, and when 1,000 island and kraut was not available, a heated pastrami would suffice. Sub King is on a truly desolate stretch of St Helen's road, which was formerly known for the Yankee Pot Roast, the only game for miles in any direction. The Pot Roast is of course long gone, and in its stead is a strip club, and a smattering of mini marts and adult video stores. I guess that's what some people would call retrograded progress, hey Chuck? Bully to Sub King for being the rare, family-friendly venue all along this blasted, industrial strip. The heated pastrami was quite good even w/o the Reubenesque accoutrements. The toasted wheat roll was a fine complement. Sub King also offers Yakisobi noodle dishes, steaming hot, and a variety of Bento plates. You could do a whole lot worse, or have to drive quite a ways, to do appreciably better in this zip code. I've been going to Sub King since the owners took it over 17 years ago. My kids grew up eating here as I worked locally. My daughter, in her toddler years, came to know Sub King as "Chicken Rice" because I'd always order my usual "Teriyaki no sauce". Oh....you thought all they did was Sub sands? Oh no! Much more! Tuesdays are Lasagna days! They've always treated my family as though we were part of theirs. After I quit working close by the restaurant a number of years ago, I didn't frequent as often. But now that I have business from time to time at Montgomery Park, it's my goto place for that great lunch before I depart NorthWest. What made me laugh the other day was they remembered all of my various quirks to my high maintenance orders as well as my sons! See you next week!!! Pretty good subs in such a random, hole in the wall place. They are always friendly and seem like a pretty clean establishment. I don't have any complaints other than I think they have miracle whip instead of mayo on some of their sandwiches so I just make sure to ask for regular mayo when I order. read more

Great place! I was new to the area, and frankly intimidated by the location - next to a strip club. But I'm glad I gave it a go. There are so few places in the general area where you can get a quick lunch that tastes good, is fresh, and reasonably priced. You get a lot of food for your dollar. The restaurant is clean and always busy. I now have them in my weekly lunch rotation. The family running the shop knows my order as soon as i walk in the door and has it ready sometimes before I'm even done paying. First: the good. Most like your go-to if you're in the NW Industrial area. But after months of trying to like this place, it's official: I don't. I wanted to: locally owned, caters to local crowd. I just can't get a good sandwich: they forget the condiments. Every.time. Even if I request -- even when I itemize - they leave off the mayo, or the sauce, or something else. It's almost funny, but it's really not. They seem to recognize me, but don't value my business enough apparently to care that I would be happy about my food! For $6.00, they can't take an extra 30 seconds to make sure it has condiments? It is repeated back and yet ... once again, dry, lackluster sub, and today half the meat. The worst part is the apathetic - if not hostile - service. I just don't feel good about giving them my money. The woman is always so nice but the man and younger man could not care less. I've been going to Crazy Chicken Bento over on 35th, worth the drive to get food I am happy with, from people who care whether I am happy. read more
