I'm a San Marcos native and have been coming here for the better part of my life. Their sandwiches are incredibly fresh, incredibly tasty, and fairly priced. I LOVE Submarina! They're pretty close to home, so I've been here a few times now. It's an independent store, and they use good quality meats and veggies. Love the italian seasoning that they use too! 6 inch subs on french roll are really filling. You could split with another person if you want a lighter lunch. Soups have also been delicious when I order them. They also have a customer loyalty program, so once you get 10 stamps, your next sandwich is free! I'm using them to cater my baby shower this weekend, and the catering prices were very competitive (about $2.00 per person). This Sub Shop makes you feel like you are grabbing a sub in your own house, and sitting down at your own kitchen table. The people working here always make you feel welcome, and the sandwiches are very good. Fresh ingredients, friendly smiles, homey atmosphere, what else can anyone ask for during their lunch break. Some of my fondest memories of growing up in San Diego, Poway to be more specific were my Sunday lunches at Submarina off of Poway road. So for the last 5 years I have made it a point to go to Submarina for a sub. The last time I was surprised and excited to find this location in San Marcos near my brother's home! And it was the same sandwich I remember from my childhood! The bread is the best, I just could never understand how people could compare Submarina to Subway...there is just no comparison! Wow, what a great sandwich shop. I've been going there for years. Ruth and Saul the owners are friendly and bend over backwards to make sure you have a great experience. I love frequenting local mom-and-pop establishments. This is definitely one of them. The store is clean and has a great family atmosphere. Oh, and did I mention the sandwiches. There must be over 700 selections posted on their menu board. Well, OK, I guess I'm exaggerating on that one, but there are plenty! Great quality at an affordable price. I would strongly suggest checking it out. On a sidenote, I noticed somebody mentioned they had moved. They are actually still in the same location they have been in for years. Years ago this Restaurant was a franchise Sub Marina made the best sandwich's I loved all the sandwich's I'm happy for the owner that the able to buy out of the franchise I truly believe this place makes the best sandwich's ever so yummy they are clean and the Vegs and mayo very fresh the meats and cheese are cut when you order I promise you could not find a better sub sandwich place the sandwich I had and my husband had was perfect well balanced I had the egg sandwich my husband had a number 9. I have had most of their sandwiches. Everyone I have had has been perfect the three inch is big enough but I always get the 6inch so I can the other half for dinner the three inch sandwich is big the rolls are big soft and chewy just love their rolls and the squaw bread is one of my favorites too the sandwich chef was super friendly and made the sandwich just how I ordered. I usually come here to get #33: "The BAT", but today I wanted to switch it up because it was a rainy day and I decided to get the Broccoli & Cheese soup! I just recently moved back to San Marcos and one of the places I'm stoked to be so close to again is Sub-Marine! Been coming here for years. The squaw bread is amazing. I love it. I typically order the chicken salad on squaw. So damn good. Everything here is amazing. I love that they offer not only a 6 or 12 inch sub, but a 9 inch as well. The business recently changed its name to SUB-MARINE but it a cozy family owned deli. They have incredibly fair prices and polite. Even during the busy Sunday after church rush they were quick to get our order ready and CORRECTLY. They have way more variety than other subshops. They have various breads, meats, cheeses, veggies and dressings. It's easily become our favorite subshop and we try to go a few times a month after church. The prices are incredibly fair for the amount of food given AND you can buy in bulk if you want! Did I mention they also have the freshest veggies of any other subshop I've eaten at? AMAZING. I have been going here for over ten years and I always get the #32. Their bread is VERY FRESH unlike the other disgruntled reviewer mentioned. It is the number one reason I return! I also love that I don't have to hear some idiot yapping on their phone while I sit to get a moments peace while I eat there. It smells delightful and it's a very family-like setting. It's cozy! This place is like home for me and this is what I requested from the hospital when my family asked what I wanted after having both of my kids. YUM. NOT A CHAIN STORE. Just coincidently the same name. Sub marina in San Marcos is a PERFECT sandwich shop. Everything is fresh and super yummy, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything they have is super high-quality from the meat and cheese to the bread (NEVER stale) and all the veggies. I've been going to Sub Marina since freshman year of high school and have never had a better sub. They also have soups and chili made by the owner himself that are also so good. I love getting the #20 (roast beef and turkey) and dipping it in chili. :-) The service is speedy if you want to just get in and get out, but they also have seating that's no-fuss and comfortable, so it's great for lunch with friends. It's unfortunate that Sub Marina closes pretty early (7 on weeknights, 5 on sunday), but that would be my only complaint about this place. 5/5 all the way for Sub Marina. read more

We used to go to one of the big chains but once we discovered this place we have never gone back. Its a small family owned and operated sandwich shop. Everything is fresh and the service is excellent. Even when there is a long line they take their time with you and are very courteous. Since they have a full staff the wait is never very long. The deli meat and cheese is cut right when your order is placed. There is a large selection of condiments, lettuce, spinach, sprouts, tomatoes, onions etc... They also have a large selection of breads and rolls and always fresh, not like some of the other places. They make their own chili and it is excellent.
