I've been coming to this place as long as I can remember and it's a great little sandwich joint. Lately, however, I've noticed they're extremely limited with their helpings on sandwiches..one time when I ordered an ATC they put 2 slices of avocado and when I asked for extra I was charged extra(cmon 2 slices of avocado and youre gonna charge me for asking for just a regular amount?). That being said I still like the place, the employees are friendly and great, and would recommend it..try the cream of potato soup if they have it! read more

Fresh and delicious sandwiches and great customer service! Always friendly - very welcoming and homey environment. Great variety of sandwiches. My favorites are the Italian sub varieties. My only suggestions are to offer oil and vinegar (not just Italian dressing which is not authentic in my opinion) and a crusty Italian bread offering. The current sub bread is very soft. Otherwise, great, lots of meat on the sandwiches, very fresh, made to order. The 6 inch is a big sandwich! I can never finish it! Way more sandwich than Subway and way better quality and quantity. No comparison. This place is so much better on so many levels. I think this shop is individually owned so quality is very high. You can tell these people take pride in this place. I've been going to this place for years, I think that i have tried almost all the numbers(lol) My fave is the BAT with smoke turkey instead of the regular turkey they use. Its not a franchise chain version of SubMarina its better more personal. It gets crowded during lunch rush but i recommend going outside of the peak hours so you can sit and enjoy inside or outside. read more

Family owned business that I absolutely LOVE, I hate that people frequently mix this place up with the chain! The sandwiches are AMAZING, ive never tried anything that tasted less than a 11 out of 10. The meats and cheeses are cut as you order them and taste as fresh as can be! I had the vegetarian. They have limited toppings but it's still okay.Their super crowded for lunch, so plan ahead. The indoor seating is old and broken wooden furniture. It's time for a remodel! I love the sqwau bread and the meat portions. Prefer this over the other sandwich shops in area. Would give a 5 star rating if they used gloves when making sandwich. After reading the horrific and untrue review from Ms. Ocean, I feel compelled to offset her ridiculous 1 star review with my 5 star review. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this sandwich shop for years ( he introduced me to it and I share the sandwich awesomeness to every sandwich lover I know!), we are always greeted with a smile and they use good quality meats and cheeses: Foster Farms and Dietz and Watson (I believe). They load the sandwiches up with meat, cheese and all the extras!! I love it!! There is nothing worse than getting a sandwich with exactly 1 slice of meat and half of a tomato slice. Not this place! We went in today at an off time, I think around 4:15? The gentleman behind the counter, whom I believe was the owner, was lovely and we told him this sandwich shop is our favorite, because let's face it, it rocks! The gal working behind the counter was equally sweet and accommodated us. We literally come at least once per week and you better believe I snap a photo for Instagram and hashtag the heck out of it! Good quick sandwich shop, nothing to write home about. My major gripe is the wheat bread is always dry and crumbly. Only order the white bread unless you want the thing to fall apart all over your desk. They need to throw the bread away every day instead of holding onto it for a week, it seriously blows the whole deal. I think if it was owned by the franchise they wouldn't let them hold the stale dry bread. One other annoying thing, they are ANTI cell phone freaks with over 6 gaudy signs within view, they seem to think that if you are to get a call while you are waiting in line that you better not take it or you better leave your spot and run outside or you will risk the wrath of no service. Believe me, I get it, it's annoying to listen to someone yammer on but this is a fast food sandwich shop, not a restaurant, get over it, no one cares if you get a call when in line but the person who made up all those lame signs. read more

Family owned businesses are few and far between these days, which is a shame, but if I can get what I want from Walmart for $10, why would I buy the exact same thing for $20 from the local hardware store? That's not the case with Submarina, a family owned business with a great selection of fresh sandwiches, soups etc. They have a menu that takes up an entire wall with about 50 different sandwiches and if you don't see anything you like just build your own. The bread is fresh, meats and cheeses are sliced to order, and they have all the expected veggies, dressings, condiments etc. A nice touch is the variety of mustards - they have wasabi mustard, cranberry mustard and a couple of others, all of which I've tried before and all of which are bomb. If you're on a budget they have a "Super Saver" sandwich: $6 for a footlong which changes each day. The staff are also very friendly and I can tell they are appreciative of the business. I also tried the chicken tortilla soup for the first time the other day and it was great. So the next time you're in San Marcos and feel like a sandwich, skip Subway and Quiznos and hit up Submarina instead. You won't be disappointed. read more
