This is definitely worth doing if you'll be in Morro Bay. We had our original trip cancelled due to weather, but the office kept us up to date and easily rescheduled us for the following day. The crew was great and even though I'm assuming we had two days worth of people due to the first day being cancelled, the boat wasn't overcrowded at all and everyone was able to see a group of 3 humpback whales and dozens of sea lions near them. As far as taking care of the people goes, this crew was great about offering motion sickness medicine ahead of time and making sure everyone was comfortable throughout the trip. They were extremely helpful when it came to making sure did whatever you could to enjoy the trip and were quick to check on anyone who might've been starting to get a little nauseous. read more

We took the midday whale watching tour last week. Our family had a wonderful time. We saw so many humpback whales right off the coast of Cayucos. The boat crew are very friendly and informative. Next time we will bring warmer layers of clothing. The sun is nice and warm, but the wind is very chilly. We've lived on the Central Coast for 25 years and this was our first whale watching trip. I was in Morro Bay on a rainy off-season Wednesday when I had the sudden urge to rent a kayak and experience the bay from a different vantage point. Sub Sea Tours was the only kayak rental in town that was open for last minute, walk up reservations and they got me in the water for an hour, between the storms. It was a divine experience. The employees monitored the weather for me, had a great knowledge of the bay itself and the natural formations and most importantly, they got me in the water having fun with the absolute minimal hassle necessary. Did the 3 hour whale watching tour at 9a.m on Dec 18th. During this time the grey whales are migrating south. As the crew member mentioned, they are travelers. The do not breech much like hump back whales which travel during summer. We saw a lot of whales - the spout of water, followed by the whole body sometimes and the dip of the tail. I have to say you can call it an adventure because the ocean winds are unpredictable. The boat rocked a lot because of the side chop winds as the captain called it. This caused motion sickness and it was scary. The crew checked on everyone and offered tips to make everyone feel comfortable. They answered all questions about the whales. They were well informed. The trip goes one hour into the ocean, following the whales for 1 hr and return for 1 hr. They were very prompt on the timing. Before boarding, the front desk offers motion sickness medication for free. Best to take it. read more

Let me start off by saying I didn't get to see any whales this time, but it was not the best time of the year and I went into it knowing that. The experience itself was one I will never forget. It's something I've always wanted to do as a central Coast native and I finally started living my best life. The boat itself a very comfy with plenty of cabin seating and two bathrooms. Kieth was very friendly and explained a lot of stuff along the way. Also, I did get to sea a side of sea lions that I'm not used to seeing. They were playing and jumping in and out of the water. It was the cutest thing ever. I also got to see the side of Morro rock that I've never seen. Literally. It was a very relaxing feeling being out on a boat and I will be back again when there's more action. All in all I would definitely recommend this tour especially if you love Morro Bay. This was a great tour. It got off to a bit of a slow start. Once we spotted some whales we followed them around the bay for the next few hours. We got a really great show! My daughter was thrilled the whole tour. It was her favorite experience during our week long tour of California down the Pacific Coast Highway. Even on a pretty calm day, it was bumpy, and many didn't fare well. I personally recommend taking a small dose of motion sickness meds before you leave the dock. Also a good idea to wear a hat and sunscreen even when overcast. Lastly, dress warm, its much colder out there than it is on shore. read more
