I had high hopes considering the good reviews. Plus, I've never had Filipino food before. I got the adobo chicken bowl with rice. I don't know, it wasn't bad, but something about the rice and the chicken was... off. After eating it, I felt funky for the rest of the day. I've been wanting to try this place because people rave about it, I am pretty critical of Filipino restaurants because I am so used to and in love with my parent's cooking. So I am always in search of something comparable in case I can't make it to my parent's house now and then. Let's break it down entree per entree... Pork Adobo: adobo is a Filipino classic and it could be cook in so many different varieties, it really depends on where your family is from and how they cook it. I've had many types of adobo and this is one of the better ones I've had. It's a little bit more on the sour side because of more vinegar than soy sauce plus it's a little more oily than I would like/used to. But it's a good start. Kare-Kare: who doesn't love ox tail and tripe in peanut sauce? I love Kare-kare and my non-filipino friend loved it too. What's great about it is, it's flavorful enough that you don't need the shrimp paste but of course shrimp paste makes everything better! Lumpiang Sariwa: it's a little bland and different for me. The wrapper is made out of egg or cooked with scrambled egg which was different and good. The only thing I didn't like was the fresh garlic on top which made it a little too bitter for me. Plus, the sauce was a little bland and usually the sauce should be sweeter. Longganisa and Lumpiang Shanghai was pretty basic and similar to other Filipino places. Overall, it was decent. If you are craving Filipino food, it will hit the spot. My only con is they don't have the full menu every time, so make sure to check that. Also, they seem to run out of certain popular items so check that as well. It was disappointing they ran out of turon and pork bbq, but maybe that's a good sign? I would definitely come back because we got sooo much food for little money. For everything we got we only paid $30, that's a steal!!! read more

Very limited seating and the patrons seem to really like taking their time here. Hanging out despite being done with their meals and seeing that people were waiting. I always get the breakfast combos as it's a good price for your buck and the quality is good. I would pass on the empanadas. When I had them last time they were too dry and lacking in addition flavors from vegetables. They do have dine in and carry out. I would recommend ordering through their website as 3rd party delivery increases their prices. No outdoor seating so no pets. They offer catering for your party/gathering needs. Fast for take-out. We got lots of food for what we paid. Lumpia shanghai was crisp, not oily, and a good price. The pancit canton was a little mushy, but tasted good. The BBQ skewers were great-- the right amount of chewiness, nice glaze. Chicken adobo was a bit too oily and brothy, but, still, had good flavor. The people who work there were very nice, as well. Not gonna lie, I came here because I had a really bad and I mean BAD craving for lechon kawali. I desperately wanted to clog my arteries with crispy, crunchy deep-fried pork belly chunks. Unfortunately, we went on a day when they weren't serving it. Turns out they alternate entrees. So if you're craving something specific on the menu, make sure to check ahead so you go on the right day. My friend and I were first-timers and were torn between getting a breakfast bowl or the lunch special. Rod, the owner, noticed and immediately offered us samples. He practically let us try all the different entrees that day except for maybe 1 or 2. He even said cheerfully, "we love first-timers here"! Such a warm welcome. Although the tinola and sinigang broth gave me all the feels (especially on such a gloomy day), the menudo spoke to me. For my other entree, I chose the ginataang langka (unripe jackfruit cooked in coconut milk) because it reminded me of the jackfruit trees I had in my childhood home and how much I ate that dish growing up. We added lumpia to our order because it would've been wrong not to, and a tocino breakfast bowl to-go I looked forward to devouring the following morning. While we there, there was a good mix of non-Asians and Filipinos who came to dine in or pick up. Tried this place out on a whim due to Ruby's Fast Food (another really good filipino food spot around the area) being closed. And I am so glad I did! The location was a little hard to find. It was in some plaza with other shops, right next to a Mexican bakery. I went around noon and there was no wait or line at all. Just writing about how good the food was is making me drool. I had the tocilog and my boyfriend had the tapsilog. My tastebuds preferred the tocilog due to its subtle sweetness. Both were really good, and the garlic rice was perfectly seasoned. The eggroll was crunchy and flavorful. Try it with the onion-vinegar sauce for a sour/spicy taste. The portions may look small, but it was extremely filling! This one's tough, I can only rate the one item that I've had from here but I have had it multiple times. Friends of mine have brought the lumpia from here to many events over the years and now we go there for them for many of our parties as well. The Filipino spring rolls, aka lumpia, from SUBO are better than anywhere else I've had even the ones that my Filipino neighbor makes. They are amazing, and so is the dipping sauce that accompanies them so sweet and spicy. They are a perfect appetizer for any event, and I have eaten them as a meal as well. They are so good I really need to try other things from here, but it's almost not even necessary. Do your self a favor and try the lumpia here and you'll never get them from anywhere else. read more

Took a while for one of the customers to understand the menu. The guy at the counter was very thorough and even brought out some samples for that customer. Since 3Rs near Horner Park closed down, I desperately needed a go to spot near my neighborhood for Filipino food if my mother doesn't cook. (I never learned how to cook, I usually buy fast food or nook anything in the microwave.) So when I heard this spot opened up, I was sutprised their website is a 3r's domain! Score! Different location, affordable lunch specials (2 main entrees with rice), and other food menus added. Im not familiar with their bowl menus; I do know it comes with 1 springroll (or is it eggroll?). The employee (maybe owner?) spoke both tagalog and english and called us with either Ate or Kuya (Sister or Brother in Tagalog) so for me customer service was up to par. Floor was swept up and table cleaned before and after seating. I was too hungry to remember to take pictures. Food left me satisfied. However, for my parents the skewers was a little tough to chew because they wear dentures. WOW. This is my new favorite restaurant not just in Chicago, but in the US. A) the customer service we received was above and beyond. It was so clear they were so passionate about their food and their restaurant. They noticed it was our first time there and brought out a tray of different entrees to try. They recommended a few and were very knowledgeable. B) the food is phenomenal. I mean, everything we tried was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and simply delicious. We can't wait to go back and try completely different dishes, because it seems like everything is a solid 10. C) price and portion sizes are SO generous. We got the breakfast bowl and a lunch special with two drinks and our total was $16. We were both stuffed at the end and have a full meal left over for dinner.
