    Mini golf course
    Annabelle R.

Fast and friendly service at entry and 19 holes at an affordable price, I had a positive experience here this past Sunday. I used to play at their very first location in a small room on Park Street in Alameda, more than a decade ago, and the current spot is a total 180, updated, spacious, and offering an arcade, pool tables, and snack bar serving pizza, sandwiches, chicken wings, and twister fries, as well as sweet treats and alcoholic beverages. The mini golf course has a similar theme to their SF location, the props and holes showcasing familiar landmarks in and around the city. Some moving parts, but not a whole lot. Challenge level is minimal, but it was still fun. There were some slow families on the course, but I was able to move around them and do the different holes at my own pace with little or no waiting needed. Easy parking too in the parking lot shared amongst the neighboring businesses.

I've come here a few times now and have a great time each time. Subpar is great for a rainy day activity, group hangout, date night, family outing, kid's party, etc. They have a bar that serves alcoholic drinks, nonalcoholic drinks, and food (i.e. pizza). Definitely check out the theme of each hole as the all come together to represent the east bay.

This spot is anything but subpar! Such a cute indoor mini golf experience themed around the East Bay - from Berkeley's Campanile and the Cal stadium with the big C, to a groovy "flower power" VW Berkeley bug (straight out of a hippy dream). As a Cal grad, I was living for the campus nods, and the creative hole designs had me smiling the whole way through, especially the Whoopee coaster hole (in video). No idea there used to be a giant roller coaster right where Crab Cove is! They've got ciders and beers on tap (huge plus), a hot snack bar for mid-game cravings, and even free lockers for your stuff. The vibe is super relaxed - great for dates, friend hangs, or family outings when you want something fun and low-stress. Every staff member we met was friendly and genuinely helpful. One even offered to take our group photos without us having to ask (and nailed them, by the way). All in all, Subpar is such a gem - local, colorful, and full of personality. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an East Bay-themed adventure without ever leaving Alameda.

We went to this place to celebrate a birthday and it's pretty fun. I love seeing the contraptions they have to move the golf ball along for when you select your ball, for the roller coaster hole as well as the last hole. Each hole is an east bay location which is pretty nifty. Despite the name, this place is not subpar whatsoever. They also have cute claw machines, arcade games and a small maze to check out.

A very nice indoor miniature golf place with an arcade on Park Street in Alameda!! Now, this place really isn't that big, and gets crowded pretty quickly on weekends when the weather isn't to great and people want to get out and do something. So, if you can't play golf, you can shoot pool or hit one of the many arcade games here. Obviously, plenty of parties are held here, super crowded then also. But if you're able to get some golf in, the many structures here are unique, definitely a fun place!!

I had a great time here with my friends. I love recognizing the different Bay Area landmarks while playing the miniature golf. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We played one round of regular miniature golf and one round of glow golf. During the regular golfing, they have this cool machine that dispenses your choice of colored golf balls. During the glow golf, they have light up colored balls. This place was so much fun to hang out and have a chill Friday night out with the girls. Thanks for an awesome time!

Came here for my nephew's 7 year old birthday party, which involved 16 kids and 12 helicopter, overbearing, risk adverse, coddling Millennial parents who forgot what it was like growing up in the 80s and 90s. PROs: -Big indoor space allows you to mini golf, rain or shine! -Good variety of videogames and physical games...very fun if you have an unlimited gaming card. -Quite possibly, the best, crispiest, and tastiest chicken tenders in the San Francisco Bay Area. -Decent beer selection on draft, though they could use at least one stout. -Friendly staff is acommadating, flexible, and great with kids. -Great safe environment to let your kids loose and run wild...unless you're a helicopter parent. -$500 to rent a 16 kid room for your kids party which includes golf and unlimited videogames, seems reasonable. CONs: -$14 per adult golf round is a bit pricy...though I suppose these are Bay Area prices. -Not the best pizza in the bay area. -Can get rather warm inside.

I visited Subpar with my parents for a very spontaneous, last-minute activity. We enjoyed our experience, and it was fun to mini golf. I also liked how they incorporated local, East Bay landmarks for each hole. It was surprisingly crowded for a Sunday night, but there were minimal wait times, and parking is available in the back. There is an arcade as well, which I haven't visited yet. But, overall this is a great spot for mini golf with friends & family!

Took my kids here and they enjoyed it. We went on a weekday so it's less crowded and the kids get to play without rushing. The person who checked us in is the same person who serve our drinks at the bar. So I had to go to the check in area to ask for a bartender since no one was there. The staff were nice and friendly, the bathroom was clean. Very good experience and we'll be back on a weekday!

Sadly some of my photos failed to upload. We had so much fun here and the place is always buys. We decided to spend part of Family Day goofing off and finding our inner child. And that's why parents bring there kids here because its FUN! Huge inside and plenty for everyone to do. The energy level is high and with high ceilings be prepared for the elevated sound of happy children (and many adults). We elected to do the full round of gold though there were many other electronic games around us. Bright, bold colors, lavish designs, and a snack bar for all those Kiddie Carbs you desire. It was great to have family time there. A little surprise for me was the last hole had a tube feature. If you made it in a flashing light goes off and you win a free round for your next trip. Bingo was his name-o. I did it. Oh happy days. Great Family place. A little loud but totally fun. Recommended only if you like to have fun. LOL

Food and beverage area. Nice selection of snacks!

Fun mini golf, arcade and billiards in Alameda. The mini golf area referenced landmarks in the East Bay like the Oakland Zoo, Berkeley stadium, Claremont tower, the port, downtown Oakland, etc. It was fun to figure out the landmarks. Mini golf wasn't too challenging so it's good for young ones as well. Ambiance was creative and fun! It's very spacious inside but it was extremely loud when I walked in - to the point I wished for earplugs - it would be nice if they installed some noise adsorption like more carpeting or provided earplugs honestly. They also served food and drinks. Looks like a great place for a birthday party or group event. I liked the open hand washing stations! Service was friendly and it was well staffed. The kitchen did shut down for a bit so no food orders were taken during certain times. Plenty of mall and metered street parking. The compact parking spaces were quite small and narrow in the complex though.

We love Subpar for wholesome, family fun in a safe environment and great customer service. There's miniature golf, a cute little arcade, billiards, and a small cafe that serves snacks, desserts, and drinks, including adult beverages. Quality the food is hit or miss. My kids love dippin dots at a fraction of the price we pay at the amusement parks. The fries are good. The mozzarella sticks are ok. Avoid the chicken tenders and jalapeño poppers.

Can't use if you ain't got a physical card even if you use Apple Pay..

Ask the Community - Subpar Miniature Golf

    Is subpar wheelchair accessible?

Hi Paige, 18 of 19 mini golf holes are accessible (hole 13 is not). All arcades games are accessible and the Laser Maze mode Beam Buster is accessible.

    Outside food allow?

    No outside food allowed, sorry

Do parents who don't golf have to pay? I'd like to bring two teens and a tween next week?

No, there is no entry fee. When we went, they wanted to know how many golfers, then we paid for that many clubs and balls.

When buying online there's a processing fee of $1.75 as of August 31, 2026, so if you have the chance I'd buy it in person at the movie theater ticket office. The historic theater is one of the most nostalgic things I love about Alameda, the high ceilings and the atmosphere is amazing especially with a full theater. The regular seats are getting pretty worn down at this point, so I'd pick one of the closer, newer, and more comfy seats for a little bit more money. ---- Notes: - there's a paid parking structure and metered parking, there is some residential parking a few blocks away as well - the theater isn't overly loud which I love, and you don't get your eardrums blown out - you can order from the cinema grill but only when they're open so it's not available for all theater showings unfortunately - the typical theater food isn't super great tho and the prices are expensive as usual - the personal pizza was tiny and like $10 ---- Overall: the shining jewel of Alameda, at night the neon lights are so beautiful and the historic theater is a must if you ever visit Alameda

The staff kept saying that they had to be the ones to handle it. I reiterated several times I wanted them to be careful with them. I had spent all night making them! We get into the party room when it was finally available and of course they had turned over the cupcakes. No apology was given and they even tried to tell me that the cupcakes were like that when they got to them. Um, absolutely not. In the photo I'm attaching there's, three layers of cupcakes, all three layers had cupcakes tipped over. It also seems supremely silly to me that they won't allow any changes to food selection the day of the party but also won't allow you to bring in any food yourself. We also asked for more napkins and one worker gave us a napkin bin and then a minute later another worker came and admonished us saying we shouldn't have that napkin bin. Uh, one of the workers literally handed it to us? What is with the attitude here? The workers act like how you'd expect DMV workers to act. There also was no music that we could really hear in the play rooms and the atmosphere just felt really drab. Especially with things like the air hockey machine being broken. There's really not much help or organization at all. And it's also weird to be pressured to tip like $150 suggested (and going up!) when the staff does barely anything to help. We tipped out of pressure but it left such a sour taste in my mouth. I would not come back here ever to host a party and wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.

So let's preface this with, my daughter corresponds with her "very own fairy" (aka. me--a very involved parent who also celebrates her half birthday, commits to elaborate elf on the shelf surprises for a prolonged period each year, is her Girl Scouts troop leader, etc.). She's been asking her fairy to take her to Neverland. The fairy responded "not yet", and instead supplied what my daughter referred to as "free" tickets" (online $20/pp, or $139/annual which includes an adult and 3 kids) to Fairyland the next day. We took the Bart to 19th St Oakland from San Francisco, which was SUPER convenient (daughter loves the train, and I hate driving in traffic), thought a bit of a walk in the Oakland heat/humidity. Also the lake that it's located on, absolutely reeks of sewage--I don't understand how people purposely walk/jog along the edges; but at least you can't really smell it from Fairyland. Just walk on the upper sidewalk or across the street if you share in my disgust. You'll get plenty of cute photos. The few rides they have (4 rides total) are very cute, had no lines on a summer weekday, and only accommodate heights between 36"-54" (except for the Jolly Trolley train which is all heights though adults need to watch their heads when squeezing in and out). The height restriction is very important to know before you go, to ensure your kid isn't disappointed. Wear sunscreen. No mosquitoes, which I was concerned about given the standing lake water and humidity. There are outdoor sinks with soap and antibacterial to wash your hands periodically, which I appreciated. As expected, a high priced gift shop, though it's stocked primarily with smaller toys, so if you're roped into purchasing something it won't break the bank. The single restaurant counter is actually quite perfect! Imaginibbles serves super cute, kid friendly healthy food that is reasonably priced at ~$7/entree. Smaller portions, but in my opinion, perfect for a theme park. The reusable cup ($8, includes one refill) is color changing when cold, very sturdy for a plastic cup, and you can fill with strawberry, white peach or watermelon lemonade that isn't overly sweet. You are also allowed to bring your own food, and there were plenty of folks picnicking on the large grassy area. Attractions are definitely old (paint missing throughout), and not cleaned well. Spiderwebs galore, particularly in areas that are meant to only be looked at, such as the Alice statue that you can see through a window in the Alice in Wonderland tunnel. A quick broom sweep would do wonders! There are a number of cute smaller animals, like chickens, a bearded dragon, 2 donkeys, and a land tortoise. These areas conversely appear relatively well maintained, which is fantastic for both the animals and to keep smells minimal. There is also a pressed wood town area with a slide where the kids can run around and climb into the different buildings, which seemed to be a favorite of many kids. There is a long ~30min puppet show (daily ~11am, 2pm) that changes seasonally, and somehow manages to keep most kids' attention. Magic key ($3) is an easy souvenir (colors change each day, so theoretically you can collect them), and used to hear music/stories through various boxes around the park. Though boxes are staticky (older), and some have bolts sticking out that prevent your key from being turned and thus the stories/music to play. My daughter quickly tired of them anyway, but she loves treasures like the "magic" key, so it was money well spent. There is also a hand-crank penny presser (51 cents) in the gift shop, so bring some change. One disappointment of Fairyland, is that there are literally no "fairies" anywhere to be found. You'd think they might have a few tiny fairy houses situated out of reach, or even fairy lights in trees to simulate fairies. Overall, fun filled and worth the ticket price. Just be sure your kid is in the height range for rides!

This place is strategically built so that there's shade everywhere on those hot summer days. Even…read morethe slides have covers over them so that the metal doesn't get too hot. It's this attention to detail that sets it apart from other amusement parks. And the food. Let's talk about the food. This is not your overpriced, cheap-quality, greasy carnival junk. It's actually healthy fruits and veggies with milk or other house-made stuff. Fun shapes, like a rocket quesadilla. Even my fussy eater wants to eat here. Do we need to talk about the rides or value? The kids come here all day and never want to leave!
