Some may say what can you expect from a franchised small business. But a business is a business regardless of what type. I write today not because I expect five star customer service or food at Subway, but because I expect common behavior such as explaining a menu at a minimum at any food business. I didn't think it was out of the ordinary that with three staff (all assuming they were family members who run and operate the business) were there and no other customers, it took them at least five minutes to just acknowledge me. So, I just watched and listened as they continued chatting away with each other and standing at the register. When finally, a gentleman came to ask my order. I ordered and he was having a phone conversation so kept repeating the same question. That's all ok and I can get over it. However, it was when the second customer came in. He asked if I ordered and I said yes. Of course, they all took their leisurely time to ask his order. He orders the new item of the nachos on the menu. As he was trying to request toppings, one of the older ladies at the register appears so quick, I didn't realize her legs can move that fast - and starts yelling, "You can't add toppings, that's it! Just cheese and whatever it comes with!" So, the customer asks "I can't pay extra for it?" She yells again, "No! That's it! Doritos, cheese, and whatever it comes with!" And SHE asks him "Have you had this before?" And as the customer tries to ask something else, he says "No, I haven't had this before, it's my first time and last time I'll ever have it." Obviously, he was unhappy with her tone that he said this, but never once did he raise his voice or get upset. He was so calm. But, instead of just explaining how this new item "works," this lady just continues to repeat the above and by that time, I'm just checking out and was confused and very displeased by how she was treating him from the body language, voice tone and volume. And one can hypothesize why. Was it his skin color? The way he was dressed? Why would it even matter? But I can't help to think it might matter more than we would want it to. To add further context, he was just a worker nearby getting off work getting food. If it's a new item on a menu, it doesn't cost the business owner to just explain it without yelling. If it had been explained, I wonder if maybe he would've ordered another item and maybe it wouldn't have been his "first and last time." This was a witness-account experience that directly impacted my personal experience at this business. It doesn't matter how big of a franchise or small of a hole in the wall business, a paying and respectful customer should not be obligated to know new menu items without ever seeing or having tried it and be yelled at for asking questions about it. Pretty simple and completely unnecessary how it had to be played out. **I understand and can imagine all the types of rude and horrible customers and non-customers a business can get, not to mention, the difficulties of owning a business. However, that sentiment goes both ways- even the customers can be having their own challenges , everybody is going through something and when they walk into a Subway, it means they want something fast and fairly affordable to just fill their stomach. If someone doesn't know an item on the menu, just explain it. Don't yell and treat them like s***. read more

They don't honor their hours of operation. I've been outside for over 20 minutes trying to open the door while somebody standing inside blatantly ignoring me while they're allegedly still open I've tried to utilize the phone number, but guess what it doesn't call that location zero stars, but I have to leave one. read more

I tried for days to order the Buy one Get one 12 inch deal online with my work computer, on the app on my phone and even using the browser on my phone to order and have not been able to successfully place any order (conveniently, I never had a problem until this promotion) SO, I went here to order in person and they guy was nasty to me "only phone" the only two words he used. I explained Ive been trying to order on every possible channel for days and none are working. He brushed me off with a hand gesture and literally turned his back on me. Subway is going out of business anyway, couldn't happen to more deserving guy. I know people wanna get off early especially if holidays, cold, and darker during winter time but come on. It's a a whole 15 minutes. Stay open as the hours are stated. Usually I'm not against fast food. Especially when it's in a convenient location. But the service is not so good.

Usually I'm a fan of Subway but for some reason, this establishment in particular, is very sub par compared to the other establishments I've entered. I can guarantee it has to do with the location. There's so much foot traffic going on that the tables and chairs are always in a disarray. Half the times I've gone there was a homeless or deranged person making it feel uncomfortable to the patrons. During lunch time rush hour a queue always builds up, sometimes reaching all the way to the door. The food itself is fine and good, but this particular Subway suffers from the location. Always hectic during the rush and during the down time it gets occupied by a homeless person. Pros: 1. Relatively cheap compared to other places in downtown financial district San Francisco 2. I used to eat a lot of Subway sandwiches because it was the closest thing to my college campus. Now, there's one right across the street from where I work. I was strongly craving a bacon and ranch melt and also needed to order a pastrami sandwich for my Mom. The workers behind the counter seemed disinterested in their job, I could barely hear them. When they took my sandwiches out of the oven I couldn't tell which sandwich was which. I told them the toppings for each sandwich but it turns out that they put the wrong toppings on the wrong sandwiches. I was super irritated because I had been craving a good old Subway sandwich the whole entire day. The restaurant was clean but on the smallish side. It's a subway sandwich shop. It's smallish, and in the summer it's uncomfortably hot (no A/C, just a hardly effective swamp cooler). It's right on the corner between a Starbucks and the much most delicious Miss Tomato sandwich shop. That said, when lines are of equal length, this Subway is significantly faster than Miss Tomato. Want a more gourmet experience? Head farther down the street from the corner to Miss Tomato. Want to get your food fast? Get in line here. The line will move fast. One of my favorite Subways! I usually go here for breakfast and the peeps in the morning are so sweet and nice! Excellent customer service! Things have been going so well here that I had them cater my office lunch. I got a nice discount and extra cookies. They even delivered! They recently went through a remodel and it's really nice inside. I think for the month of April, they are doing a "remodel special" and offering footlongs for $5. On a separate note, some of you need to pay attention to when they have special offers. Not all Subway restaurants participate in the $5 footlong special. Furthermore, these specials are for a limited time only, so don't gripe if your sandwich goes from $5 to $7. Pull it together people! read more

Well, it has been years since I have been to a Subway Sandwiches shop. Now I know why. The subway on Market and Fremont is a bit on the small side and the menu seems a bit smaller than any other sub shop I have been to. Went in at 11:30AM for lunch and got "day old" bread that was dried out and the "fresh" topings.... well, were not so. Tomatoes were rotted. Rating this Subway low for being merely a Subway makes about as much sense as giving McDonalds 1 star for having premade food, or going on IMDB and rating The English Patient 1 star because "lol I hate romance movies." It's not The French Laundry. It's a Subway. Start with an awareness of that fact. Given that foundation, it's the best Subway I've been to. They're crazy fast, especially at lunchtime when there's a line stretching to the door that looks like it will take an hour to get through. Every time I've gone, the veggies and bread have been fresh, the sandwich has been correct, and I've been in and out in just a few minutes. After finding that my food bill from working in the city is quite high, this place is a welcome break. So what if it's not amazing food. It still tasted good and it is cheap. I would normally give Subway just three stars but this one has friendly employees; the lady at the cashier always greets me "hello my friend!" as I do come here at least once a week. They do seem to be only able to hear one filling ingredient at a time though so I always have to pause between "lettuce" pause.. "Spinach" pause. "Green peppers...." This place does seem a bit dirtier than I want it to be and the layout of the tables in front of the food bar is a bit odd. I like the barstools and higher round tables off to the side though. The food is alright but the service is horrible when you walk in you can't even see the server cause he's sitting down in a corner while using his cellphone not noticing when customers walk in, also he cross contaminated between cutting two different types of sandwiches useing the same gloves and was using dirty containers to serve out of, also the tables look like they haven't been wiped down at all between customers. So before 10:30 AM, you can go in there and get a wrap with eggs, your choice of ham, bacon, or steak(!?!) and all the usual sandwich fixin's. I've been there a few time. Agree with the other comments re: the inattentive staffer (on the weekends), uncleanliness, and cross-contamination. They put clean gloves on to make your sandwich, which is good, but then touch the dirty handle to the bread cabinet and oven with the clean gloves. Also, the employee's bare (unprotected) arms were all over the cutting surface, too. Also, there's a homeless woman who regularly spends evenings at one of the tables there. Sometimes she's even sleeping (with her shoes off - yuck!). Other times she's "helping" with the cleaning, in full view of the employees, even though she's not an employee. This place gets 3.5 stars in my opinion. The sandwich I got was pretty good and the service was good too. I got the tuna sandwich with everything. It came with a lot of vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, pepperchinies and jalepenos. This subway is nice also because they have an outdoor area with tables and chairs. Mad doesn't even begin to describe the anger I am feeling right now. I visit this specific Subway at least 2 days per week for lunch because it's near my office. Well they officially lost a customer today. I finally decided to sign up for SMS promotions. I got one that said Free Chips with Purchase of Any Sub. Well, this store refused to honor that promotion. The cashier, Edith, who was extremely rude and really didn't seem to like her job, embarrassed me in front of the entire restaurant, with a long line of people behind me mind you, by telling me she wouldn't accept it. I couldn't believe it. It's not even expired, I purchased a Footlong, so what gives? She just printed out a receipt and handed it to me and goes "Next!!!!" It took all I had not to throw my damn sandwich at this woman. So I filled out the Tell Subway survey only to get a code for a free cookie that I can only use at that particular store. Really? I'm not going back there. EVER. A free cookie from that place isn't gonna make up for the humiliation I experienced today. Hurray for this place being open on SUNDAYS - until my friend told me this place was open both days of the weekend, I'd been eating lunches out of the vending machine at the office if I had to work on Sunday.
