First time here. Very impressed with the food and servce. Will def go back. Started out with the 3 appetizer platter, a pitcher of sangria, and pita bread with dip. Two of us had the whole red snapper special, I had the lamb and beef and my daughter in law had a vegan platter. I love this place, I really do... but recently their portions on take out orders are atrocious. My husband and I have been customers foe years. We typically order from here 1-2x per month. Over the last 6 months we noticed that the portions are getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Tonight was ridiculous. The chicken kebab pieces were half of what they normally are and the rice is also a stingy portion. I do not understand. I wish I had taken a picture of the size of the portion before eating. I want to continue to return but at this rate, if they do not work on this, they will lose us as customers for good. read more

I understand we are working in a pandemic but in all my times over the last year in restaurants this was by far the rudest and most lack of customer service I have ever experienced. Most retailers have lack of staff but they aren't nasty to you about it. We came in for our 1pm reservation and they had a ton of open tables and made us wait as they needed to get their computer. He never left the area and then five minutes later says just sit over there. So we go to sit ourselves with no menus or even someone giving us the picture to scan. The table next to us had menus so I assumed they just forgot since they never sat us. I call over the guy who made us just sit ourselves and asked if we can have one and he takes the menu picture to scan from another table with an attitude. I said okay well no one said anything to us and just left us sitting here and he rudely says "what do you what me do, we don't have enough staff" My issue is not about wait time as I don't mind waiting if people are short staffed but I think when you are going out to lunch especially as a Mother on Mother's days that they can be just a little bit nicer and make you feel appreciated for choosing them on your special day especially since it wasn't even busy in there. No wonder we got a reservation only a few days before. This must be the way they treat a lot of people and I am so disappointed. I asked to speak to a manager and they told me he was off. We then ask for who is in charge and they said no one today. At that point, we got up and left as I won't be left to feel that way in a place of business where no one is in charge to make sure customers don't get treated that way. read more

The atmosphere I def give a 5, the decor and setting is great, you feel like you're in a city restaurant as opposed to being on Long Island. For appetizers we had the hummus and falafel with were both delicious and get two thumbs up. For the main course I had one of the vegetarian dishes, can't remember the exact dish but it was vegetables in a tornado sauce. It was good but I probably wouldn't get it again. My boyfriend got some kind of mixed meat dish on pita which he felt the same way about. The waiter was very nice, however I feel like he may be a family member because while he def tried, he definitely needs to brush up on his waiting skills, bc he was a little all over the place, forgetting to put our dinner order in, but was nice enough to offer us a free dessert on him for his mistake. I just feel that in this type of place a good wait staff is crucial. I do hope this place does well because the atmosphere is great, and I would def go back to try another dish (although h I'm vegan so it would be great if they added some more dishes to their vegetarian options) but the restaurant was full so it seems like people are definitely liking it there. read more

Recently moved to the neighborhood so we have been trying different restaurants to get a feel for our favorites. My family is from Turkey so I grew up eating Mediterranean food so I am very familiar with it. We had company over last night and they wanted to try some Mediterranean so we found this place and figured we'd try it. It was a total miss for us, the cigara borek was terrible. Actually it was so bad we thought maybe it was spoiled? We also ordered a kubideh kebab and it also wasn't very appetizing. There was a lot of cartilage and fat in the meat. Really disappointed. We have eaten at the East Meadow location many times and the food and service have always been fantastic. Conversely, the last few times we have eaten at the Merrick location, the service has been consistently less than stellar. I convinced my husband to give it another try tonight and we were beyond disappointed. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and we were immediately seated. After that, not one person came over to us to take our order or ask us if we wanted water. People that walked in after us were seated and had their drink and food orders taken, while we were still sitting there without being attended to. The last straw was when not one, but two servers, came over to a table to help them wrap up their food and still never approached us. My husband and kids put their coats on and I approached a man behind the bar and told him how disappointed we were in the service and lack of attention in a restaurant that was nearly empty. All I received in return was a dumbfounded look and a mumbled apology. Never again. read more

We have eaten at the East Meadow location many times and loved the Merrick location. The decor and atmosphere in the restaurant is beautiful. We went for lunch during the soft opening. The servers are soft spoken and polite. Lunch was quiet, relaxing and as always delicious. Everything came out quickly. I've eaten at Sufiya's about half a dozen times because it is in my neighborhood. I love this place. The food, atmosphere and people are the reason I come. My favorite is the Adana Kebab which tastes awesome and the rice is equally good. Not to be missed if you like Turkish food. read more

I am Merrick local and have been eating at Sufiya's since it opened. Consistently good until last night. Seemed like new Management as Eric was not there and we had a new waiter who didn't have a great communication skills. Without going into the whole story... the "fresh" fish came out 10 minutes after the rest of entrees and frozen in the middle (literally). The staff was not interested in making things right. Read the reviews and decided to have dinner last night with two friends. This place is easy to find with lots of parking at the back of the restaurant. We were greeted immediately, seated and offered the drink of the day. Every question we had was answered. The Baba Gonoush was amazing, and we couldn't get enough of the warm Pita bread. The lamb and beef kabobs, Cornish Hen Kebabs and Chicken Breast Kebabs were tender and well seasoned. Everything from the food to the service was exceptional. Received an apology but he never came back for the whole rest of the night. Appetizer looked and tasted like a free sample at Costco and the food was ok. The only thing that was above average was the cherry rice. I walked over to our server at the end of the night and asked him if he ever planned on coming back to us and he rudely replied, "I did". He came back with the bill and a hand written 15% off one entree on our next visit. The owner/manager is obviously not paying attention to his staff.
