Sugar Shack was a great way to close out our final day in Memphis. The chicken was seasoned so well I could've eaten the skin by itself. It was fried perfectly. The greens and mac and cheese is always a good duo! I could've skipped the Sugar Daddy drink since it was more sweet than strong, but everything else made up for it. The vibe definitely caters to that post-Sunday service crowd with live music and plenty of seating. Prices were super reasonable for the amount of food we got, and everyone at the table left full and happy. Between the location, the service, and the home-cooked menu, Sugar Shack really is a soul food trifecta on Beale Street.

Suga Shack was the upmost small but entertaining and professional spot I've been to in a long time in Memphis. The staff is great and has a great attitude towards everything, especially if you're celebrating a birthday The space is small to fit about 100 or so people and the entertainment is always on point and on time (Friday & Saturday only). Food is phenomenal if you're looking for a dish that's freshly fried and hot. The parking lot is also small, but there is additional parking along the main street strip of Beale Street. There is an entry fee of $12 that is not taken up at the door but will be on your closing out ticket. Enjoy!

My meal was heavenly! I was sitting in church praying to God for the most delicious and fulfilling comfort food I could get on New Year's Eve. The Lord told me to go to Suga Shack! My has never led me astray! We got the catfish and chicken wing plates with greens, yams, spaghetti and fried okra. We were promptly greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door. Our waitress was very attentive and wasted no time taking our order and getting us everything we needed to enjoy our meals. It's a small but mighty place. I don't know how to explain this but it feels like "suga shack" is appropriate. Especially since it's sits right on Beale Street. Go! Just GO!

Oh my! I can't wait to come back to this place esp on the live music days. I came for lunch and the small space filled up quickly. I ordered the fried fish, mac, cabbage and yams. I'd recommend all of those items. Food came very hot (which I love) and almost perfectly seasoned. Only thing that didn't have season was the mac. Service was efficient being that it was one lady handling all the guests. The ambiance is great (space is small tho), it gives an underground vibe with the black color and pics on the wall. Great date spot ambiance, with food that's great for any occasion.

This place came recommended by friends and I must say it didn't disappoint! We have been traveling and looking for good southern style food and sadly we hadn't gotten it. When we walked in here, it was LOUD, think of being in a club, music blasting and folks feeling the groove and we were seated quickly. The waitress quickly let us know that they were out of numerous items (didn't know it was close to closing) so we decided to split a meal just to tide us over. We ordered the fried catfish plate with cabbage and yams and lemonade to drink (they have a full bar). The place was vibing and it wasn't long before the food arrived at our table. The waitress brought a second plate without us having to ask and there portion was large enough for us to share. So can I say the food was absolutely delicious! It's like this is what I have been looking for the last two weeks of my travels. The catfish was hit and crispy, the yams were tender and sweet and the cabbage was tender as well. The corn bread was dense and not my favorite but I didn't miss anything without it. If you are visiting it's definitely worth trying out and they also do live music so it's definitely worth dropping in for.

Stopped into this place on my first visit to Memphis. The catfish was fried to perfection and the cabbage was good. Just beware, they close at 4 pm which I thought was a very unusual time.

I was in Memphis for work and having a soul food craving so I looked up a few places and settled on this one. We walked in and hardly nobody was there which made me skeptical. The hostess was extremely welcoming but then told us that half of the menu items were not available....including alcohol. Trying to support a black business, I overlooked the second red flag. We got the food quick. I got the chicken wings and my friend got the fish. I noticed the chicken still had feathers in it and was a little salty but overall everything else was ok, so I thought. . My friend and I split our meals to try both. The next day we were flying back to Chicago and both started to feel sick. Me more than him. I was sweating profusely on my flight, got the chills, a headache and couldn't stop going to the bathroom. It hit me...I think I have food poisoning. Its been 3 days and I'm still feeling the effects

Food 20/10 Service 15/10 Ambiance 20/10 When I say I have passed here soooo many years not knowing it was even there! Well I know now! I went on a Saturday and I had a blast! Definitely a "grown folks" spot. The live band (100/10) was playing , people were dancing, drinks were flowing I mean what else is there to want!

Not gonna lie - I didn't understand the acclaim behind this local restaurant. First off, it's generally good, and the food came out fast but hot (good things). I really liked that my wings were lightly breaded, yet crispy and had seasoning. Unfortunately, it's seemingly the same seasoning used for the fries, so it's not unique to the dish. My sides of macaroni and green beans were also good, but did not add anything to the wings at all, and only vaguely complemented it. The spicy sauce on my fiancé's chicken sandwich was amazing, and everything else was just ok. For a place where they received high ratings everywhere we looked, our particular dishes were sadly underwhelming.

My fav spot on Beale. Larry is an awesome singer here. Feels like a family affair everytime we come. Food is good, too. Great vibes.

Love this little intimate spot. If you're looking for great life music, decently priced drinks, and food to match the drinks, look no further. My girls night party of three had a great time. We stayed the entire time. The music was absolutely amazing. Both performers were excellent and the band killed it! I didn't get a specially cocktail but my drinks were strong and on point just how I like it. My cousin prefers sweeter drinks and got a speciality cocktail that she loves. The catfish nuggets were really good as well. I got the wings with the sweet and spicy sauce. It was more sweet than spicy so I will do seasoned only next time. They only have ranch so if that's your thing great. As a blue cheese lover I was a little disappointed. There is a $12 cover per person but no need for cash because the cover is added to your ticket. Overall, it was an epic night.

It actually pisses me off sometimes. I do understand the need to get people through the place quickly, but you can do so without being as curt and laconic. We will return, without a doubt. I do love beer. My only suggestion would be a corral of puppies to pet while you get wasted. That would be pretty rad, maybe like a puppy rental system could work. '24 - 3/100
