We sat outside for a bit at the shared tables but the chickens had no fear so we ended up eating half back at home. A local treasure for coffee and pastries!! The shop is smaller so it's a tight squeeze so you're in and out after you order. There's cool shirts, coffee beans and little trinkets you can get there as well. The inside is also cute and simple. The coffee here is bomb. Some fun flavor options. I got a honey lavender and it was delicious. But the thing that caught my eye and made my water was the malasadas. This was my first time having them and now it's a top 2 pastry for sure haha. The flavor I enjoyed the most was the lilikoi one. It had a donut like outside coated with sugar coating -- the filling was the right amount of sweetness without giving you a toothache with a slight tang to it. So good. The parking outside this is very limited, but we went early in the morning so it wasn't super crowded yet. The quiche was very good, but had few small pieces of kimchi in it. Loved the crust and sausage together tho. Favorite malasada would be either the ube or coconut! The malasadas are fairly big and have a decent amount of "donut" compared to the filling. Super yummy tho! Tip: there are a lot of chickens around that will try to snatch your food . Staff was quick and pleasant. We ordered all the regular malasadas and all the stuffed except for the Ube. We're not fans of that flavor. We also ordered the lemon bar and the mango muffin. GET THE BANANA BREAD STREUSEL!!! We tried every banana bread we could find on Maui, and this place is the place I've been looking for that was a core memory from my childhood. This was on my list of places to try a couple years ago but failed to come til this visit. I'd read the reviews which advices to come early for the malasadas. We arrived around 8:30am. We bought 1/2 dozen - * chocolate * vanilla * two lilikoi * two ube In addition we bought 3 spam musubis. We were on our way upcountry so deciding on when and where we would be eating malasadas. We decided to hit a Starbucks in Piialani although coffee at the bake shop was available. Once we got our coffee we ate standing up in the parking lot. Each malasada had a good amount of filling. Small bake shop located next to an abc store and ululanis. Went in a Monday morning in January at around 7:15 and was 4th in line. By the time I left there were probably at least 10-12 waiting in line. I got 3 of the hot cinnamon malasadas and then the filled lilikoi, coconut, chocolate, and ube malasadas. They make the hot malasadas to order--they were ready in about 5 mins. The warm malasadas were a nice touch. The filled malasadas were probably better though. Of them all liked the ube and lilikoi the best, though not enough filling for my liking. I'm not sure I'll go back--this was my 2nd time as I wanted to see if I liked it more, but alas did not. My wife LOVED this bakery. She couldn't stop talking about the malasadas. Would come up at least 4-5 times a day. She became obsessed. We would wait in line(get here early because they only make the malasadas in the morning and be prepared to wait). They limit how many people inside so be patient and try to avoid the wild chickens who are fierce. They will not hesitate to peck at your food. Just thinking about these malasadas have me craving them all over again! On our day in Kihei, we wanted to stop by for a quick treat so we made our way to Sugar Beach Bake Shop. Protip: they make hot malasadas made to order before 10 AM so get there early! We unfortunately just missed the time, but the malasadas we had were still very fluffy and soft. We went with the filled malasadas instead. Even though we were arriving late morning, they still had a lot available and many flavors to choose from. We went with the mango, lilikoi, and chocolate. The mango had a nice true mango flavor. The lilikoi was more subtle. And the chocolate - well, you just can't go wrong with that one. It was a little messy so pick up some napkins as you head to enjoy the malasadas on their outdoor tables. It was also enough to share with our group of 4. Each malasada was about $2-3. The Sugar Beach Bake Shop was a sweet find just over a mile from the Hilton Maui Bay Villas, a wonderful excuse to run along the beach for morning pastries and coffee. It is noteable as it is next door to the famous Ululani's Shave Ice but Sugar Beach Bake Shop is a destination on its own! Tried here today for the first time. Was craving for some hot malasadas. Normally I go to Home Maid Cafe for them but they are currently closed until Nov 6. I saw that Sugar Beach Bake shop also cooks them so I decided to give it a try. It's right next to Ululani's Shave Ice and the ABC Store in North Kihei. I got there around 8 am and the line was decent sized out the door of the business. The inside is small and can really only accommodate maybe 5 or 6 people at a time. There were about 12 people lined up outside and another 6 waiting by the window for their orders to come up. Took about 15 minutes to get through the line. Malasadas are one of their featured items. They have the hot malasadas in sugar, cinnamon and li hing flavors. They also have non hot crème filled ones in vanilla, chocolate, lilikoi, ube and toasted coconut flavors. Some other items that caught my eye they had on display were croissant rolls, macarons, and crème brûlée. There was a lot more than this but I can't remember all the items in the case and on the counter display. The whole store is very clean and nicely organized and decorated. They seem to have about 2 people up front by the counter at all times and a large kitchen in the back. Ordering was quick and easy. Note there is a sign that says they only accept credit card and contactless payments...so, no cash payments...no checks. I was surprised how fast the order came up. Took only about 5 minutes or less. They must be shelling out hot malasadas constantly. I noticed the customers before me found out their order didn't include a sticky bun they ordered. They were able to add it to their order quickly at the pick up window by paying the woman there. Unfortunately, I also found (albeit after I got home) that my order was also missing something. I had ordered 10 hot malasadas with sugar coating but only received 6. I verified that my receipt did, in fact, show that I paid for 10. I called up the store and asked if they could make it right. They asked for some basic info about the purchase to verify I did, in fact, make the purchase I claimed to be concerned about. After verifying it was my purchase, they told me I could either come to the store again and receive 4 additional malasadas, or they could give me a refund to the card on file later on when things slowed down. I chose the refund option, as I didn't want to drive there again if they were only going to give me the missing malasadas and not compensate me on top of that with anything additional for my trouble (gas isn't cheap). They did apologize for the oversight. I wish more places would allow the option to electronically tip afterwards (like on Uber) instead of pre purchase for this exact reason...as I gave the highest tip amount only to find my order was 60% provided. Fortunately, it was only for 4 people and not for more than 6. That would have been far more disappointing. The malasadas were very hot and fresh and tasted very good. The dough was amazing...soft and warm. There was an awful lot of sugar on the outside...I had to shake off a little excess. For the price ($1.25 each)...they're hard to beat. I would definitely purchase these again...but I will definitely check the bag before leaving. Back to back orders with missing items (me and the couple right before me) is a sign that their employees handing out the orders need to do a better job of checking the orders first before giving them to the customer. read more

Out of all the bakeries on the island, this place is a MUST. Everything here was phenomenal from the spam musubi, Mac nut sticky bun, and of course, the malasadas!!! Spam musubi was one of the best we've had, super soft rice with a teriyaki sauce around the spam and a jalepeño. Mac nut sticky bun is a must if you're a fan of sticky buns! It was kouign amann-like, crispy on the outside, super soft inside, with a lovely crunch from the nuts on top. My favorites and the star of the show were the malasadas -- we tried the ube & toasted coconut and debated which was better, but both different flavors and phenomenal! I have been dreaming of these since we had them but note that you need to go early! They open 6am and run out of malasadas by 10am. RUN don't walk, so worth it!!! read more

This was our first visit to Maui and malasadas were on our 'Must Try' list. The earlier you go, the better! We went on a Sunday at 1PM around closing time and by then the cream filled malasadas were already out :( The cashier was very nice and recommended we either come by earlier next time or place an online order ahead of time, because they often sell out by end of day. We ended up grabbing shave ice from  Ululani's next door to satisfy our sweet tooth for the day.  Luckily, we still had a few days left of our trip, so we came back to the shop the morning of our flight around 9:30AM and picked up one ube filled malasada, one lilikoi malasada, and one li-Hing mui classic malasada. Our favorite was the ube filled malasada; it hit the spot! Perfectly soft, fluffy, creamy, sweet, and light! The cream complemented the malasada so well. The only thing we wished was that the flavor was a bit stronger-- the ube was too subtle. The lilikoi was both sweet and tart, very different from ube and had a stronger flavor. We think the classic we got was sugar or cinnamon because we couldn't taste the li-hing mui at all. But maybe it was also just super subtle! When we come again, we'll definitely be getting the ube flavor again and trying the other cream filled flavors as well.  There's also a nice small farmers market next to the shop that we stopped by afterwards. They make fresh smoothies and we bought some macadamia nuts for the ride home. We will definitely be coming back in the future for a nice morning treat and to try something new-- they have many other baked goods that look delicious! read more
