    Likikoi key lime pie
    Clarissa A.

Longstanding bakery in Kihei famously known for their malasadas, which are good but a little dense for me (people do wait in line for these and when they are fresh they are the best). I'm actually a huge fan of their lilikoi key lime pie - that is fantastic! It's the right amount of sweetness mixed with the tartness of the lime and the creaminess hits the spot. Really would be great for a nice post beach treat (or if you can put it in a cooler, a nice beach treat!). Lots of great pastries are available too - scones and other types of pastries as well!

IMHO I rarely get a chance to buy malasadas from Sugar Beach Bakery because they sell out early, and we're coming all the way from Ka'anapali. This trip we got lucky! It was an early April afternoon, and they still had a small selection of malasadas available. I snagged one chocolate filled, one vanilla filled, and two sugar dusted malasadas, $1.50 each, plus two streusel banana breads, $8.25 each and four regular banana breads, $8 each. The malasadas were for us; however, I thought the banana breads would make great souvenirs to bring back home. Back at the resort, we froze most of them, and on the morning of our departure, I carefully packed them in my luggage and carry-on bag as precious cargo going home! Customer service was excellent and friendly, as always! Get thee to Sugar Beach Bakery, next door to Ululani's!

Ah this place is so good we went twice during our short trip! If the line is out to the parking lot expect to wait 30-45 minutes. It helps to order ahead but you will need to order the day before - they don't do same day orders. Also some things you can't order online like their musubis, etc. However you can still get their malasadas and croissants, etc. We tried all their malasadas and our favs were the coconut cream and the lilikoi (passion fruit). We also tried their mango bread which was moist and fruity (no chunks of mango in it though) and the lime pie which was lovely! However, I think the big surprise for me was that the malasadas are smaller than I expected. The first time I had a malasada was at Leonard's in Oahu which are like...the size of your hand. These are more like golf ball sized. They were still excellent but I think that just caught me off guard. But we still enjoyed them!

A perfect bakery to start your day in beautiful sugar beach/Kihei! We waited approximately 45 minutes at 7:45 AM lol so definitely expect to wait but the pastries were worth it! Nothing in Hawaii is cheap when it comes to food, but this felt very reasonable and well priced!

How did it take us this long to stop here, especially since we've been to the Farmer's Market next door so many times over the years. On vacation, who says you can't have malasadas for breakfast. No one, that's who. So, we stopped by on the way to the beach to finally try their malasadas, li hing, lilikoi, and haupia. Since we were early enough, it was made to order. Although all good, it was surprisingly the li hing that won us over so much, we got 2 more and a seasonal pumpkin to go.

Hands down the best Malasadas in town! I'm half Portuguese and these are one of the best. I have tried multiple spots and they don't compare to Sugar Beach Bake Shop! If you're in the area and want a good Portuguese donut, you have to stop here! The service is amazing too!!

7:30am and line out the door. They open at 6am. Right next door to the famous Shaved ice place (Ululani's). The line does go quicker than the shaved ice place though. Famous for the malasada-passion fruit, coconut crème, vanilla, mango, chocolate banana pie, mango lime pie, spam musubi (regular and jalapeño), spinach/mushroom/sausage quiche, every flavor macarons, and ice coffee...plus 3 bags of Hawaiian coffee for family back home...$186 later... Happy family. Eating all day check

Honestly, overrated. The overflowing filling is completely deceiving there was very little filling actually inside. This led to the malasadas being dry and hard to finish. Not worth the wait and definitely food for the eyes instead

    Madison G.

Amazing spam masubis (especially the jalepeno ones!) and pretty good malasadas! They only had vanilla and chocolate malasadas by 7:30am! Be ready to wait in line, but everything is homemade there!

It was our last day and we went to get malasadas for breakfast before our hike. It was our first time trying malasadas and we thoroughly enjoyed them all. Each malasadas was $2.75 and we chose ube, passion fruit, and coconut. There was a good dough to cream ratio and can be quite filling. The dough was light with a denser middle. They remind me of the donuts from i'm donut but less fluffy. It's a small little bake shop located right next to Ululani's Shaved Ice on the left. They sell malasadas, pies (which were quite expensive - more than Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop), and drinks (matcha latte, etc). You can see the malasadas right on the counter when you walk in. The lady was nice and told us which ones were popular. I think if they sold more flavors it would be a hit like matcha since they already serve matcha drinks or any other ingredients they already have on hand.

Sugar Beach is just down the road from many of the hotels and great beaches in Kihei. This little local bakery has some wonderful bakery items including malasadas. If you're looking for malasadas, I feel they have some of the best to be found on Maui! Deliciously sweet and soft with a creamy filling; it's hard to stop eating them. In fact, I found myself going back there every few days to get my fix of velvety dulcitude. My advice, buy a box with your +1, find a spot on a bench and give your taste buds a delightful infusion of of one of Hawaii's infamous treats while you watch the chickens and enjoy the outside Hawaiian weather.

I love coming here for the malasadas as well as the spicy spam musubi. There is usually a line but it moves fast. I come pretty early and parking is not an issue then. If you can find a spot in the parking lot, you can try parking across the street by the beach. Whenever I'm staying in wailea, this is one of my first stops for the yummy goods! Coffee wasn't bad but it's really the malasadas that rock my boat here! My fav ones are coconut and ube. Cant wait to come back when I'm in Maui next year!

I had the peach cobbler warmed up and a la mode, and it was delicious. Crumble toppings on pie are my absolute favorite, that buttery, crumbly goodness you wish would never end. Hubby had the key lime pie a la mode, and it was the perfect balance of creamy sweetness and tart, but not too tart. Both slices came with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, which is the only way to do it. The service was friendly, too. The indoor seating was full, so we sat outside, which turned out to be lovely for people watching and enjoying the fresh air. If you have a sweet tooth and appreciate a proper slice of pie, Maui Pie is worth the trip. Highly recommend, and I'll see you there for more peach cobbler!

My mom politely asked if they had any sugar-free pies available. The girl at the register stated " you need to ask for those a day in advance". So my mom asked if she could place an order now to pick up one tomorrow. The girl then looked up from the register with an annoyed look on her face and said, verbatim, " does it look like I'm the head baker? I only work the register. You need to leave the store and call us to order". We all looked at each other shocked. That was the most rude response I've heard in a while... like we are supposed to know who specifically ask to order a sugar free pie ... ... just a wild situation for such a fun place with great tasting pies. The good: - blackberry mango was probably my favorite pie - peach cobbler a close second place - loved the mountain berry as well The bad: - the girl working the register - you want a sugar free pie? Make sure to NEVER ask in person. You have to call in. - And they only offer whole pies and not slices for sugar free pies The verdict: - minus 2 stars for the rude girl who yelled at my mom - minus 1 star for only having whole pies and not slices for sugar free pies, even though they only have 3 flavors to choose from... Such a shame to have people like that working at a place that serves such a good product.
