Tropical is located at the corner of a nondescript intersection and serves as a great way to get some dessert after your savory food. The venue is efficiently laid out, and you can tell that it gives off old school Maui vibes. Friendly owners who were really focused on making their customers happy and providing great recommendations on their ice cream. Note that they also offer unique chocolate options in a separate section.

Last day in Maui couldn't be better with a delicious ice cream from Tropical Ice Cream Cafe. My wife and daughter had the Ube (purple) and Haupia n Banana Mac Crunch. Omg delicious! Super friendly and open late on a Weekday night .

So apparently this place opened up 10 days ago and I'm floored by how nice everyone is. I could only get one man's name, LEONE, as he was so nice and gave generous scoops so thank you Leone you were very funny. I think they specialize in ice creams with some gelato/sorbet flavors like lilikoi, guava, coconut pineapple etc. There are also flavors like macadamia and coffee. Had the Kona Mud Pie and an ube ice cream and both were fabulous. I would definitely recommend this place to others because it had a cute interior and a nice outdoor area with tiki torches and seating next to the main road. It is next to paia fish market in the kalama village

Excellent ice cream and friendly service! Lots of uniquely Hawaiian flavors - Kona Mud Pie and Chocolate Paniolo Ride are my favorites, but you can't go wrong with any of them! They also have delicious-looking baked goods as well as ice cream sandwiches and choco tacos, so I'll definitely be back to try those. They even gave us a free sample of tea while we enjoyed our ice cream. Overall wonderful experience every time we visit, highly recommend!

Husband and I ended up coming here at least two times our 4-day trip to Maui so they clearly had some good ice cream! A really large array of flavors and it's hard to pick pictures a couple to have, haha. They also have some really fun special local flavors that you wouldn't find anywhere else outside of Hawaii, so I highly recommend trying these! We ended up getting a caramel one that was really delicious! Also try the vanilla with macadamia nuts! Yummy! read more

Top notch ice cream. The couple/owners are super sweet and friendly. I got four samples before choosing my two scoops. There were a few others worthwhile treating. Banana Mac nut . Unbelievable amazing. A nice surprise from caramel. Ahola cherry truffle. Fantastic. Premium homemade ice cream , is of course high end cost. Totally worth it. Best ice cream on the island ? Unsure , I didn't try the other homemade one towards Lahaina . Definitely visit if you are around. Oh, and they are open super late ! 10:30pm , which is perfect since the shaved ice ones close by 6:30pm. Love dessert at night !!! read more

Food: the ice cream was great! We had chocolate, cookies and cream, and cappuccino. Two of us had waffle cones and they were delicious. Everything tasted very fresh. Service: I don't know if we walked in near closing time, but I felt like our family was intruding a bit. Nevertheless, we sat inside and ate our ice cream so it didn't melt outside. Ambience: it's a really cute place. There are a handful of seats inside (stools up against a ledge by the window). It's not a spot where you're going to stay a while due to the limited space inside, unless you had a hot beverage and wanted to stay outside. There is ample parking behind the stores with a brief walk. read more

We stopped by Tropical Ice Cream Café in Kihei Kalama Village while visiting Maui to celebrate our daughter Jade's upcoming 8th birthday--and we're so glad we did! The staff, especially Michael, were incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The ice cream was absolutely to die for--so many amazing tropical flavors to choose from. This place is a gem on the corner among the shop. The ice cream is amazing and there are many different treats to try like handmade ice cream sandwhiches and tacos. They have banana splits, ice cream Sundays, and root beer floats. Prices are respectable for the area and for what you get. The owners are super nice and helpful also. Has a little indoor sitting area with bar stool watching out the window or enjoy the weather outside. By far one of the best places on Maui. read more

We walked down to a shave ice place, but then turned around to Tropical Ice Cream, Kihei. Leaving the other place behind turned out to be a fantastic decision. Wonderful! The wife and all were happy. First the service. "Bul" is the gentleman that helped us, I believe he and his wife are the owners. Both are very nice and accommodating. You can sample any flavor of ice cream they carry. The ice cream they use is made here in Maui. We used to drive to Lapperts, but no more! The servings are generous, and I will tell you that this is the best ice cream I have ever had. 5 stars! SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS IN MAUI. read more

She's not a syrup person, so she asked for more whipped cream. The waitress comes back with a little mountain of whipped cream in the little silver ramekin. All in all, solid spot. Friendly people, ono food, and little touches that make you feel taken care of. We will be heading to Cafe Kaila again to try some other stuff like the "chicken and waffles", and next time, I'm not playing around with the soup. Bowl, Garans.

It starts at their building in Lahaina, which has a little café/coffee shop, plenty of chocolate for sale, and a rooftop experience that looked interesting but we didn't get to try. By the time we finished the tour, the kids had reached the "we have successfully experienced enough things today" portion of the vacation. Fair enough. From there, you take a fun little ride out to the cacao farm, and that's where this became much more than "let's go eat some chocolate." Our guide, Andrew (I'm about 95% sure I'm remembering his name correctly!), was fantastic. He seemed genuinely interested in cacao, the process, the company, and what they are doing there. That makes such a difference. He talked about how cacao is grown and processed, the history behind Kuʻia, and a little about founder Dr. Gunars Valkirs and his rather fascinating path to chocolate. Then, of course, there was the tasting. Lots and lots of little squares of chocolate. This is educational work I was willing to undertake. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which particular varieties were my favorites because apparently I was too busy eating them to take adequate scientific notes. What I can tell you is that there really wasn't one I disliked. What surprised me most was how much flavor there could be in chocolate that wasn't buried under a mountain of sugar. The differences and complexity of the cacao actually came through, and it made me think about chocolate completely differently. The chocolate sample they gave us back at the counter was also fantastic, as was the coffee drink we ordered. My only regret is that we didn't buy more chocolate before leaving. Be warned, though: apparently this tour has side effects. I went in expecting a fun Maui family activity where we'd learn a few things and eat some chocolate. I left wondering about cacao varieties, fermentation, processing, climate, chemistry and several other questions that absolutely nobody in my family asked me to investigate. It's been a few weeks and I'm still going down the rabbit hole. Five stars. Great guide, fascinating process, excellent chocolate, fun for the family, and potentially hazardous to anyone predisposed to acquiring new interests while on vacation.

The Kona Mocha is like a coffee smoothie. Not overly sweet or too bitter. Perfect blend of ice, coffee choc and sweet cream. The Maui Sunrise was sooooo good!
