What I love best about this gem is the lunch time sandwiches and salads. Those who are tired of the normal fast food lunch stops usually flock to Scherpies on a weekly basis. I've gotten a few sandwiches from this place and have always been satisfied. The cost of food is reasonable and staff is extremely kind. First I have to say I would've never found this place without a coworker and soon to be Yelper (thanks to yours truly). This place is literally a counter in the back of a small produce store. They have a salad bar and sell wild flowers as well. I have recently been on the hunt for the best sandwich places in the city and now I have to add this one to the list. They use Boars Head products and the sandwich is a nice serving. For a little over five bucks (5.29) you get a nice serving of meat, lettuce,tomato, razor thin red onion and pickles. Chips and a drink are a $2+ up charge so I decided to pass. The temperature of the sandwich is what stood out most to me. It was incredibly fresh and on rye bread my turkey and Vermont cheddar took on a new life.....creating a new experience for me! It's not the best price or the best serving as far as my list of sandwich places go. It's not a locally sourced/ organic type of fru- fru place either but the service was wonderful and my sandwich seemed to be at the peak of freshness. I'm glad I stopped in. Visited after one of my coworkers and long term Cincinnati locals brought in a corned beef sandwich from here. It looks like a corner convenience store from outside, however instead has fresh produce lined along the walls. Then there is the deli counter, which is pretty much a create your own sandwich deal. Some onsite prepared items such as deviled eggs, potato salad and Macaroni salad. A salad bar is available, however I have more convenient salad bars available to me. I do like that I can create a combo with a deviled egg instead of your typical bagged chips, but those are available too. All in all, it was OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit, but if I'm in St. Bernard, and its before 1pm when the toasters are on, I can see myself stopping. read more

You tell the friendly ladies behind the counter what kind of meat, bread, and toppings you want; you get (no kidding) a fresh and delicious 1.5lb sandwich. The best part is that a simple sandwich is only ~$3.50! #mindblown Doing the math.... 6.99 for a lb of turkey... or buy Sherpies for $3.50 that is about a lb of meat already.... wow... They probably make their money with specials, chips, and drinks. But im telling you, this is by far the best value meal ever. My favorite is the Waldorf Chicken Salad on Wheat. Others might know it as chicken salad with walnuts and grapes. Every time I bite into a grape, it brings a great big smile to my face. =) You can never go wrong with the hot special either. I stopped in at Scherpie's to pick-up a sandwich for my lunch one day before work. I hadn't been inside this place since I was probably 10 years old. My mom always loved shopping here for produce and I think they used to have meat. I never really knew what a gem I could find tucked in St. Bernard. I ordered a turkey sandwich and the girl behind the counter was nice enough to rattle off my toppings and bread options since the paper menu was hard to read. She had it made so quickly I couldn't even believe it! I also took home a small container of homemade chicken salad which was really good. There were quite a few salads in the deli case that looked amazing. What sealed the deal for me what the fact that they have my ALL-TIME FAVORITE chips: Dirty Potato chips which can be incredibly hard to find in Cincinnati since they made by Utz. I wish they had better hours but I will certainly try to find my way back. read more

And I always go up to the deli counter for a sandwich, usually the daily special. Most times they have a hot special and a cold special (today's hot special was pizza bread, which was different. And yummy!) And these sandwiches are not your basic "slice of meat, slice of cheese, schmear of mayo" sandwiches. They pack on the meat, cheese, and whatever veggies you like on your choice of bread! Every time we come to Cincinnati we stop here for a sandwich. The deli counter makes the best sandwiches and the service is absolutely wonderful. This trip, we're visiting my grandmother who is in hospice and when we told the cashier we were in town from Las Vegas, he offered us a basket of pansies to take for her bedside. It's always busy, but fast moving so you won't spend more than five minutes waiting for your food. Don't be confused by the exterior looks, they sell produce in the front and have a deli in the back. Their sandwiches and lunch meat offerings are delicious but are also very affordable ($3-5). So much value! My favorite is the Waldorf grape chicken salad! A very hearty sandwich with a generous amount of meat enough to stuff most individuals!
