This place has gone downhill. I used to be an advocate for this place, but no more. I came here with a friend from out of town to show her how great this place was, but was greatly disappointed. First off, the staff was rude. We weren't greeted when we walked in, but the group that came a little after us got a greeting (was it because we were younger and not as valued customers?). Then, we ordered the chocolate kiss. I asked if they could cut it in half (the girl taking our order seemed new and kept looking to another employee for answers). The other employee shook her head and said "no. They have to cut it themselves" (not even speaking to us...we could hear her yknow). Then the person taking our order was like "No, you have to cut it yourself." A simple, "No, I'm sorry. But we have some utensils you can use behind you," would have been great. But when I said "that's fine" they were just like "there's utensils back there" and lazily pointed to the back. The cupcake was mediocre and there were almost no donuts in the casings (3:55pm). I took my mom for her birthday here and I wish I didn't!! The floors were dirty and I'm talking nasty! The employees were walking around and stepping on the paper towels on the floor! The girl who helped us didn't bother to use gloves and when I asked her about it she said that they don't always use them! Umm well I just asked about it though don't you think I kinda want you to use em?! She still didn't! I was visiting my sister( who is a regular customer at sugar twist-FYI) from San Francisco and we wanted to get a few treats for the Memorial Day weekend. So since my sister is a loyal customer, she decided to call sugar twist before heading out to go pick up the treats just to make sure if they were open. Amanda picked up her phone and told her that they are still open for another 50 mins - until 4pm. We left the house in another 10 mins to get there in 15 mins , just to find out that they were CLOSED. We called back to see if they forgot that we had called and Amanda stated that her "manager" came and closed early. I love Sugar Twist, my husband really loves Sugar Twist and my daughter begs me to take her there all the time. I've had the hot breakfasts (the sandwiches are far better than the burritos) and several of the pastries and cookies. Some of the offerings are a bit on the sweet side for me but I have a low threshold. The New Yorker is good, the cupcakes are good, and the twists are super, super soft. read more

There was a fly flying around inside with their pastries. I'm pretty sure that's a health code violation, but the worker tried to justify it by saying there are a lot of flies in that area. The workers don't wear name tags, so I don't know the girl's name. However, she would have sold me over a dozen pastries from in there, had I not asked if she was really going to sell that to me after I was the one who pointed out that fly in there. No common sense? This is a very high quality bakery. We've been needing something of this caliber for a while, and while I've got a personal soft spot for Foster's donuts, there's no question that Sugar Twist deserves my business. Their bagels might be the best I've had outside of NYC. Their pastries are shockingly good. I haven't been here in quite sometime, and I decided to get a cannoli and cheesecake. The cheesecake was very good, but the cannoli was horrible. It tasted like it was left in the freezer for weeks. Glazed doughnut appeared cooked but the texture was exceptionally doughy as in "OMG was that RAW dough I willingly just put in my mouth?" Not remotely impressed with either the taste, texture or quality of their doughnuts especially the waxy frosting on the freebie generously provided for National Doughnut Day. certainly not worthey of selling at the regular price of $1.99 The customer service I'd graciously give them 4/10. Sugar Twist is quite the eatery/bakery! A lot of people don't realize that they serve breakfast sandwiches and other fun edibles, but that is definitely just a small part of their business. They have decent doughnuts and I appreciate the creativity! This place really goes outside of the box in terms of how they make their doughnuts and other yummy treats. Love their cheese puffs especially when they are just off the oven. I like new yorker - its a cronut that has nutella and filled with custard and bananas - but I wish it had more nutella. I would give it 5 stars but one night my husband and I wanted to get desert and stopped by to get cupcakes since they always looks so good but was disappointed because when bought something that was supposed to be buttercream frosting and custard filling, it tasted more like whipped cream. I have had good experiences here in the past, but this time not so much. I purchased a champagne cake for my daughters birthday and it was more icing than anything which was a big let down. I also purchased "cannolis" and specifically asked if they were filled with a custard like filling and was told yes. Well they weren't, they were filled with an awful whipped cream. This place is awesome. The bagels are fluffy with a slightly dense mouth feel. In the burritos, the eggs are seasoned properly, the bacon is cooked crispy, and there is a healthy amount of potatoes. Went here last Sunday as it was open early when other places weren't. I had remembered they had pastries and desserts but was surprised to see they had breakfast burritos and sandwiches. My husband got a breakfast burrito and he said it was tasty and the size was appropriate for the cost. I got the everything bagel sandwich and it was delicious. I love the updated decor and expansion and the people working there were friendly. We plan to go again soon. Around a month ago I spent three days onsite with a client in Bakersfield. Sugar Twist was a daily ritual. From breakfast sandwiches to donuts to their signature treats everything I ate was delicious. I had the pleasure of talking to the owner's friend until the owner came out to talk to me directly. He's in back, all day, every day, making this business happen. It comes across looking like a franchise chain (that was what I originally asked him if it was) but that's only because of how professional the business is. Everything about this place was perfect. Initial impression: All the pastries look and smell amazing. The store itself is a little underwhelming, and could use some more work. I was going to surprise my parents with a treat, so I ordered a cannoli for my fiancee, an eclair for my mom, a pineapple upside down cake donut for my dad, and a chocolate covered pastry stuffed with chocolate for myself. The prices were a little on the high side for Bakersfield, but since I lived in LA for 10 years, I am familiar with trendy bakeries with better than average goods. I hoped this was Bakersfield's turn for a little bit of above-average. Sweet feathery Moses, was I wrong. None of us liked our pastries. We all ended up trying a tiny bite of everyone else's to see if it was as bad as our own. Four people, four pastries, four strong no votes. There's nothing I don't like about this bakery. The location is convenient, everyone who works there is friendly and attentive. The prices are a little high but that's to be expected from the variety of cookies, cakes, cupcakes, doughnuts and all their inventory is high quality and always fresh.
