Overrated. When I walked in and took a look at their selection of pastries I was a little overwhelmed. Everything looked unique and amazing, I wanted to try it all. I decided to stick with breakfast and coffee. I ordered the hazelnut coffee, chorizo breakfast burrito, and because I couldn't resist the red velvet cream balls so I ordered a dozen. I figured I could take and share some with my son and boyfriend. The coffee was watered down and weak, almost as if I was drinking water with a touch of hazelnut. The burrito was disappointing as well. I'm not sure what kind of chorizo they used but it didn't taste like any I have had before. I'm Mexican I know my chorizo. Needless to say, I didn't finish my burrito and I forced myself to finish my coffee because I was thirsty. If I return I will stick to what they are known for and try some of the amazing looking pastries. read more

Hands down delicious! Their puffs are amazing. Especially the cream cheese and strawberry ones. If you really want a mouth full of deliciousness, try the tarts filled with fruit and cream. Love this place! We are from outta town and was working in Bakersfield for the weekend and felt like some dessert that one night! We bought some chocolate and yellow cup cakes and some canolies from this place and omg....the best! We usually don't like desserts with too much sweetness (sugar) in them but these desserts had the right amount of sweetness to them. Not too sweet and very moist! I usually throw away the frostings from my cupcakes but not these ones. Swallowed those damn things lol...Even the canolies were so good! Had the right amount of sugar in the fillings! I visit Sugar Twist one to twice a week. It's a great stop before going to work. I can grab a burrito or sweet treats for coworkers. When I initially moved closer to to the Brimhall location the staff was great and very nice. Things have drastically changed. Their practices in customer services has gone down hill. There never used to be charged on refills for TEA. When you ask for napkins or serving-wear, you get attitude. Today I ordered a latte and one person ahead of me ordered one and was asked if they wanted oat milk, almond, or whole milk. When I went to order my coffee I was never offered a choice of milk, and when I requested oat-milk (while in the middle of paying) I was given attitude. After this last encounter I will no longer be coming to Sugar Twist. read more

If you like rainbow donuts on Chester you should like this because it's the same owner. The difference is this place is trying to be higher end and innovative. The donuts are yumm but they have a lot more baked items too like red velvet cookies, cupcakes, ham and cheese crusants. They offer a sandwich called "make me happy" which is a maple bar filled with sausage bacon egg and cheese. I have yet to try it but they have chicken fried steak as well. They do a special donut where they cover it in the frosting of your choice and then cover it in your choice of a bunch of toppings and sauces, apparently you can do it with a cupcake too. Just tried their French toast mountain today and was happy with my selection. The raised donuts taste like a fluffy, slightly sugary cloud. Eggs were slightly fluffy and bacon was cooked to my own personal liking. I forgot to ask for the bacon to be cooked longer because I can't do chewy bacon but glad I didn't have to. Live nearby and try not to visit too much. Everything is usually really good, have never had a bad pastry or donut. Why 4 and not 5 stars? It comes down to prices this is a fine place for a treat but definitely not feeding a hungry crowd. Also you are at the bakery's whim, you get what is in the case, there have been a few items we have liked that haven't seen again. It is rare you see gluten -free (does pop up on occasion). I have picked up a cake for a birthday (strawberry and passion fruit) and it was $40 but really tasty. Yes you want to pay for quality and it makes more sense to buy 1 small really tasty treat then buy 4 average items. read more

Got cupcakes here for my son's 18th birthday. Got a variety of six...none of them were great, and most were barely average. They are my go to for morning pastry and I hear the breakfast burritos are good. But the cupcakes are not good, and certainly not great. They would get a 5 for taste and friendly staff but their business is too small for tables so their customers can sit and appreciate the glorious smells while enjoying their yummy pick. Also, they are expensive, but one might say "you get what you pay for" Unfortunately, the cost makes this a once in awhile treat; but it is definitely worth it. If Dewars can fit people in their downtown location, I think Sugar Twist can too. read more

This used to be our favorite doughnut place in town. Now I'm not so sure. They raised their prices, which I understand, but also made the size of their doughnuts smaller. That's really frustrating to me. Just do one or the other. Raise prices and keep the product the same. Or keep prices the same and make portions smaller. Now it's just a double rip off. I live near here and quite often think about stopping here. I love coffee... I love donuts... why not? I stopped in to check it out. To my surprise they sold more than just bakery items and coffee! They have sandwiches, breakfast burritos and other stuff. I tried their sausage and bacon croissant.... Wait for it... OH MY! It was great! I loved it. I washed it down with an americano (surprise). I also got a couple of doughnuts for the road. Their blueberry cake doughnut was amazing. I also had to try their baconator doughnut. It was good too. I had this post removed because they assumed I had not visited the establishment. I gave the place a bad review. I called the store before I went there, no answer (I let it ring a long time, 20 + rings). I wanted to check as to whether or not they made beignet. Ad on YELP said they were the best in the county. That was what I was wanting so I drove there, since there was no answer to my call. I assumed they were very busy. Wrong...when I got there only one person could be seen in the store, an employee. I asked about the beignet and I was told they don't make them and never did. Was extremely shocked at how awesome the jalapeno peppers were at the olive drive location that I had to order some for my girlfriend. Well, olive drive ran out so I had to order them from the Brimhall branch. They ran my card over the phone and I agreed to pick them up in an hour. I ordered the Gigantor Donut because I wanted customized writing on it! They asked me what time I would be in the next day so that it would be ready for me. I said 12:15pm and went in around 12:30. I had to wait 20 minutes... probably because they forgot to write on it lol. They even forgot the sprinkles so they just added some at the end.. which made the donut look messy because there were patches of sprinkles here and there. The writing was messy and not centered.. I don't know what went wrong here.. but was not impressed with how the customization was delivered. The oreo cupcake is very good! but that one incident ruined it for me. read more

I can't believe I've never done a review for Sugar Twist! This not so average donut shop is one of my favorite places. I have a sweet tooth that I can't shake off and because of that I'm constantly finding myself day dreaming of this place. My favorite pastry has to be the cream cheese puffs and even better when you get the blueberry ones. Don't get this place twisted though... Just because it's a donut shop don't think for a minute that's what they are about. Sugar Twist makes BOMB breakfast sandwiches/burritos! If you have not tried their savory breakfast items then I guarantee you are missing out. So just when you think that's all they offer... They make the cutest cakes ever. I purchased one of my kid's birthday cakes here and they made that decoration w talent and skills. They also have Thai tea here, which I also love! I'm soooo glad Sugar Twist is quite a drive a way from home otherwise I would have a problem! I forgot to mention, the owners are really awesome people! Sugar Twist oh Sugar Twist, why are you so enticing!?! I am not a dessert person, nor am I a pastry/doughnut lover but what is crazy is the fact that Sugar Twist is slowly turning me into one. But it is not just their sugary goodness that brings me back and forth. Their breakfast and beverages are addicting. Today I picked up an order for a dozen of Blueberry Cream Cheese Puffs that I sampled during the Yelp Event, my wife and I were excited to find out they started making these. They also make the original cream cheese puffs, chocolate ones, strawberry ones and apple ones. The Apple ones are next on my list. I recently have fallen into an addiction with their Thai Tea. I'm a soda fanatic but their Thai Tea is sweet but in such a subtle way that it doesn't push you away. I love it. I adore this bakery! Every time I come home for the holidays or to visit my family, I always find myself wandering here at least once or twice. They have cronuts (croissant/donut hybrid pastries) in amazing variations such as nutella/banana and strawberries/cream. If you are familiar with LA's Portos Bakery, you will find a similar pastry to their cream cheese roll here (to be honest, it was hard to tell the difference at first bite)... talk about saving me a trip to LA! I am also under the impression that it is their most popular item so I recommend giving it a try if you are a sweet cream cheese fan. The staff is super friendly! It's always nice to interact with staff who treat customers with a cheerful attitude. The shop is quite cute and there is seating available inside if you want to enjoy your sweet treats immediately. Although it is mainly known for its desserts, Sugar Twist also has cafe items such as breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and various blended coffees. For my 100th Yelp review, I just had to write about Sugar Twist. This is my absolute favorite place to eat at in Bakersfield. My wife and I come here about 2 or 3 times a month. I would love to eat here everyday, but I would gain way too much weight! Sugar Twist is more than just a bakery. They have a cafe specials menu that includes items like biscuits & gravy, french toast donuts, breakfast burritos, and croissant sandwiches that are all served hot & tasty! They also have creative names for some other menu items. One of my favorites off the menu is the Big Kahuna (a homemade toasted bagel with pastrami, hot links, and cheese inside). My most favorite hot menu item is the "Make Me Happy". It is a maple bar filled with bacon, sausage, eggs, and cheese. It may look and sound a bit weird, but I like it cause it truly does make me happy!! They make all kinds of other yummy delicacies as well. They have donuts, pastries, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and much more. If you like bacon, then try the baconator!! If you are there during the weekend, then try the morning roll or apple dumpling. Sugar Twist makes something that I have not seen anywhere else in Bakersfield. They call them Cream Cheese Puffs, and they taste so deliciously amazing!! A few places down in the L.A. area make something similar, but they don't taste as good as the ones that Sugar Twist bakes. During the mornings, the place can get busy. Be patient because Sugar Twist is worth the wait. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are affordable. Don't take my word for it. I dare you to go and try it for yourself. I have come for breakfast with my husband many, many, many times! It is one of our favorite quick-bite places to have a late breakfast. Their food options include breakfast burritos, croissant, bagel and biscuit breakfast sandwiches, as well as a maple donut breakfast sandwich (which is my favorite, see my pictures lol). They now offer lunch sandwiches and/or panini's as well such a turkey or ham but I haven't tried any of them. Their French toast mountain is also delicious which includes two ring-donuts-turned-french-toast with a side of eggs, sausage, and bacon. (Again, see the pictures.) Soo good!!! Their donuts include all of the traditional ones such as twists, rings, and cake ones. They also have some special ones including bacon topped and s'more donuts to name a couple! They even make custom cakes and have cakes in their case available for purchase. Along with cakes, they have tons of desserts ranging from brownies, cookies, bars, cupcakes and many, many others! The tea(peach fuzz) was so sweet I had to ask for extra tea and there was no fizz. =/ Why call it Peach FIZZ? It was the only thing open on SuperBowl Sunday.
