My husband was taken to this restaurant by a friend of his. He raves about it all the time, so one day we finally went together. I was shocked by how friendly the owners were!!!! They even remembered my husbands name and that he likes to drink lots of gingerales (so they kept them coming)! The atmosphere in this place was relaxing and very friendly. One of the better Thai and Asian restaurants in the area. Food is always fresh, hot and well prepared. Though small, we've only had to wait a couple times to be seated. The owner, Oh and her husband, are the nicest people and you will be fortunate if they are your servers for the evening. We've tried many of the dishes, from the Pad Thai to the Bulgoki and the Tangerine Beef. The portions are not huge and you won't leave stuffed, but you'll feel like your money was well spent. The decor is simple and classy and very comfortable. The entire waitstaff will make you feel like you're in their home. Worth a visit. Would definitely say it's worth the trip if you're traveling more than 30 minutes. read more

I've lived in the Bridgewater area for 40 years and my wife and I regularly sample the local cuisine. SugarCane is located in the same location as another failed restaurant: Sweet Ginger. I'm wondering if it's owned by the same family. The location is directly across the street from Chatta Box, and Chatta Box was there first by a few years. I think Sweet Ginger/Sugar Cane's efforts to compete with Chatta Box are only mildly successful, I think they would have done better to locate to another part of town. I've sampled just about everything on the menu at Chatta Box and several items at Sugar Cane. Since they are located about 100' from each other I think it's a good idea to do an apples-to-apples comparison of them: Seating area: both restaurants are small and pretty busy, especially on weekend evenings. Both probably seat around 45 people. I've seen Chatta box practically have a line out the door for take-out on busy nights -- this is a sign of their popularity. Ambience: SugarCane has a nice saltwater fish tank. Other than that it looks like your typical strip mall chinese food place. Chatta box is completely decked out in Thai, Malaysian decor. Service: both location have very good service. No complaints here. Food: this is where things diverge a bit between the two contenders: Chatta box's menu is custom, asian fusion (Thai/Malay/Chinese/Japanese) creations that are simply wonderful. Every time I go there the food makes me think they must have some specially trained chef on staff. Fried food is light, not greasy or heavy. Their sauces have a wonderful consistency and deep flavor. From fish to chicken, beef or vegetarian they know how to cook each to bring out the protein's consistency without being overdone or bland. You can eat ALOT at Chatta Box without feeling like you ate too much because although the quantities are great, they use fresh natural ingredients that don't sit heavy. SugarCane's food is good, but not great. Their curry sauces have a tendency to taste and feel like they came out of a can. Their vegetables either have that "poured out of a frozen bag" look and taste or are slightly under cooked (crunchy chunks of potatoes in a chicken curry dish??). Their menu, visually, looks like it was printed for some strip-mall "#1 Chinese Buffet" joint. Their protein is kind of rubbery, reminiscent of some kind of meat nugget. Chatta Box has sushi. Their maki rolls are a bit sweet for my liking, but they do have sushi. Sugar Cane has nothing that resembles sushi. Price: about the same. Lunch will run you about $10 and dinner twice that. I think Chatta Box is probably a little more expensive overall. If you're in the area and looking for SE Asian food IMO it doesn't make sense to choose Sugar Cane over Chatta Box. If Sugar Cane were across town and not across the street I think it would be better for them as they'd grab that clientele that didn't want to drive 15 min over to Winter St. read more

I like SugarCane. I don't love it. It would not be my first choice, but it's my first choice in Bridgewater. It always surprises me how not busy this place is when I go. The Pad Thai is very good. I like the bulgoki, but it's not the best bulgoki I've ever had. They have a nice mix of a few kinds of Asian foods here. Korean, Thai, Chinese and Japanese. Something for everyone. There is another Thai restaurant in my area called Thai Taste and I heard this place was better. I wouldn't say it's better,it's about the same but further away. One thing is there is a lot of variety at this restaurant, so there is definitely something you can find. Service was o.k. Kinda slow. There were 2 of us. They made us wait for a table for 2. So they hurried this couple along instead of just placing us with at the open table that had 4 chairs. Seriously. That took about 15 minutes. Mind you no one with 2 or more people came in. It wasn't like a rush or anything,but for some reason that made sense to them. Yet if you're in the area, try it out. The food is really good. This is a wonderful restaurant, every time I go there they are courteous and overly nice! A good family atmosphere and perfect for dates. I was waiting for the bathroom behind and employee and she kindly just said you go. I declined but she just left and said no please you go first. They really take inconsideration customers first! I'm truly sorry for taking so long to write this review. I mean... people need to be WARNED! My husband and I were visiting friends in the area when we stopped here for dinner. It was months ago, so I don't recall everything about the experience. I think the service was okay, but recall that my husband was less than impressed with it. The menu seemed fine, I remember that we ordered a bit of a feast! Unfortunately, we learned the hard way that the place is called SugarCane for a reason. There was tons of sugar in just about everything! I mean, the food was sickeningly sweet. Also, I recall there were a lot of carrots and something else about the proportions of some dishes that made them less than appetizing, at least to us. Usually, we are very good about eating leftovers, but as I recall we wound up tossing a lot of ours out. There are a couple other spots in town that serve similar cuisine and from what our friends told us and what we experienced when we dined elsewhere the following days.... they are better. I just remembered some specifics of this experience. Pad Thai was horrible as was the Thai soup we had. I bet they do Korean better than Thai. The Thai dishes we so very wrong. read more

This place is great! Probably surprisingly, the Chatta Box does little for me (despite all the praise it gets). Luckily though, SugarCane is right across the road! Decided against Chinese food this New Years Eve due to a nightmare experience last year. So my girlfriend and I have been dying to try this place for awhile so we figured lets give it a shot on New Years Eve and we couldn't have been more happy with everything. I was really in the mood for sushi. My husband and I decided to try Sugarcane. I had a spicy tuna roll and dragon maki. Upon opening the take out container, an overwhelming smell of bad fish seeped out. The sushi was nearly inedible. The fish was super fishy and the seaweed was very thick and chewy. I would not recommend this sushi to anyone. It may be the worst I have ever had. My husband did get garlic beef fried rice, that was delicious! Very fresh and flavorful. So two stars may be slightly unfair but i've had 2 bad meals from here. I try to branch out and start new things, but their flavors suck and are very bland. I will say that their Pad Thai is quite delicious and i really enjoyed the crispy rolls and ginger wings were both good, but their entrees just seem to leave something to be desired. My first bad go around was with Kao Soi...it was watery and lack flavor. This past experience I recently watched an Anthony Bourdain episode where he rants and raves over a particular noodle soup that he had. So I thought I would try a noodle soup so I ordered the seafood Tom Yum noodle soup. Can anyone say bland and horrible flavor.
