    3 Piece Whiting Sandwich

One word - STUFFED. This sandwich was huge. I barely finished the fries and made it halfway through the sandwich. It was well seasoned. It could've been fried harder for my taste but it was definitely a 10/10

Delicious food. We will always come back to Sugar's Crab Shack. Perfect neighborhood spot.

Well I'm kicking myself for not trying this place long ago. Today's visit was great. Walk-up window for placing orders. Friendly gentleman taking our order. Me and my bro both ordered the fish and shrimp combos. Mine came with fries and coleslaw, and he got Mac & cheese, fried okra, & cornbread. You get 4 filets and 4 medium/large shrimp. My fish was catfish (up charge) and he got the Whiting. The fish was fried perfectly. Well seasoned. The shrimp were a little lacking in size and less flavorful. Fries were great. My only critique is a bit pricey overall. I got two fountain drinks at $4 a piece. Two meals with a few add-on was $85 for lunch. Plus $8 for drinks.

I've heard so much about the price and wait time, but I had the best experience. I went on a Monday evening and from placing my order to pick up was 11 minutes. Delicious made to order food. I love the cocktail sauce. Yes, it's a little expensive, but worth it. Ralph provided super customer service and made my first experience memorable. Nice abundant outdoor seating. The tables were clean and the vibe was chill.

I finally get to try this Richmond mainstay. There was a slight wait because everything is prepared fresh to order, but the food was tasty and lived up to my expectations. Everything was excellent; the personnel were really amiable and the service was respectable considering that everything is made to order. The atmosphere is wonderful. I appreciate that you can eat outside on the seats while still taking in the views of the downtown area.

Best fried fish in Richmond. I finally had the chance to try the catfish. Did not disappoint. Will forever be a fan of their cornbread. Still not crazy about the lines but hey, when the food is this good, you suck it up.

I recently visited Sugar's Crab Shack and finally got to try their food! The special combo of wings, popcorn shrimp, toast, and fries for only $19.19!! Along with the snack meal that came with 3 fried fish and buttered toast. I also got the mac and cheese, and bread pudding. Beware that the wait time does take a bit, the food took about half an hour to be ready. But the generous portions made it worth the wait. The workers were also very nice and you could tell how passionate they were about the food. The popcorn shrimp and fried fish were pretty good. But the mac and cheese could use a bit more flavor, I could mostly just taste cheese. But the fries--wow! They were super big, thick like wedges, and extra crispy, adding a great texture. The bread pudding was just okay since i'm not a huge fan of raisins, but overall, it tasted like French toast if you're into that. Despite the wait, my overall experience was great. You get a ton of food for an amazing price!

The lines speak for themselves. Who is going to wait outside, regardless of the season, for 30+ minutes for bad food? Nobody.

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. Being a little wet with beverages and good food seemed the better option so we ordered more food. The octopus was great. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. If you are in the area, highly recommended stopping by, rain or shine, and sampling their menu. Nicely done.

We had the option of getting brunch or the regular lunch menu. I ordered the OG chicken sandwich and it was amazing. The chicken was full of flavor and juicy and I liked the sauce that came on it. Their famous short rib egg rolls were a bit burned on the outside so a bit dry on the inside. They did have a very good sauce served with them that pretty well covered the flaws. We also got the sweet potato corn bread. It was tasty, but fell apart just a little too easily. I had to eat it with a fork. The risotto that came with my duck leaned a little too far to the mushy side. The duck itself was really good. My niece had the salmon, and she had no complaints. She said she had the leftover last night as a sandwich and that it was delicious. Service was excellent. No notes.

Hats off to the staff at Lillian who continue to be wonderful, but now that they have scrapped…read moretheir dollar oyster lunch specials, the food has absolutely nothing to offer. Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

We made a reservation for a weeknight and were seated immediately upon our arrival, a few minutes before our reserved time. The restaurant was packed and the servers were hustling, but they were all friendly and did a great job. We started with fried squid (because, when at Edo's Squid..), which was so crunchy and delicious. It tasted great just with a squeeze of lemon, but the marinara they serve it with was great, too. My bf got the carbonara, which was very good, and I got the spaghetti con ricotta, which was out of this world. My favorite thing about good Italian food is that it's just simple things, done really well. The portions are huge, so I'll be eating leftover pasta for a few more nights this week, but I'm glad that I saved room for dessert, as we tried both the tiramisu and the cannoli and were not disappointed by either. Overall, a great meal in a warm, cozy spot.
