It was my birthday and it was in the reservation. We were a party of 5. We came here thinking it would be an amazing night. It was not. The service was terrible. There were a total of 6 tables here and we ordered our food and it took 45 minutes to an hour. We got here at 5:30 and didn't even get the check until 8. The food was good. We saw our waiter a max of 6 times the whole night and it took forever to get our drinks. To add on to this it took a longer than usual time to get dessert, yet we were the only ones getting anything. And when it came out they did not even put a candle or anything for a happy birthday gesture. It was in the reservation and was said at the table. Throughly disappointed. Took a friend here for dinner. Enjoyed the cocktails then had calamari appetizer. I had the gnocchi bolognese which was incredible - tender gnocchi with a very good sauce and a touch of ricotta. Update 11/25: Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is contemporary casual. I've been here at least forty times now and it has always been quite excellent and very consistent. The venue is constantly being improved with details that make your experience better with things like decorative accents and seasonal theme driven decor that increases the uniqueness of this place. I'm typically here for the lunch special (see photo of that menu below). Three courses including appetizer which includes choice of soup of the day that is always top notch or a choice of four salads my favorite being the arugula and pear, a tapas sized entree my favorite being the Chicken Scarpariello, and a choice of six different desserts my favorite being the Espresso Crunch for an incredible $17.95 !!! A very good meatball just lacking enough sauce. The order was of three meatballs and there was not enough sauce to cover all three. My husband went with the classic chicken parm. I tried his and enjoyed his more than mine. His cutlets were nice in thin with a nice crisp thin breading. I ordered the Sunday gravy which was short rib, braciole, a meatball, sausage, and ragu over rigatoni. The short rib nice and tender but a small piece. Sugo has a really great meatball. This was my first time tasting braciole I could not quite place the tastes I would have it again. I would have dropped the sausage and wish I had a choice for my pasta. The rigatoni were nice and big and tasted fresh. Even though I prefer choosing my pasta the rigatoni did not disappoint. I would love to eat at Sugo and get the full experience. It was so beautiful, and I'd like to come back and dine on the patio too! Their breakfast pizza is one of the best we've tried, and all of our brunch dishes were delicious. The Fra diavolo sauce is to die for-- I was last here for my birthday we had the charcuterie board, the fried calamari was so delicious. For the entree we then had the cavatelli Arrabiata with blackened chicken... My friends had the rigatoni alla vodka and the fettucine al limone & to end my special day I had the chocolate lava cake (I would eat this everyday if I can). Visited for happy hour on the patio. The servers were extremely kind and attentive even though we were the only ones seated outside at the time. The patio has comfortable seating and is perfect for a sunny day in downtown Sandy Hook. The happy hour menu is the best in the area. Lots of tasty food options of good portion and half off beer and wine! We tried the burrata affogato, which had a spicy and flavorful marinara as well as meatball and polenta, and arancini. This place was beautifully designed from the small fall charms on the cocktail cups to the cute little napkin holders. The wall design behind the bar is pretty cool too. The service was great, the server was attentive and very friendly. The bartender was great as all the cocktails were very great and there's so many options as far as cocktails. The bartender was nice enough to let us try the fall new cocktails such as the amaretto espresso martini, the bees knees fall version, a cool pumpkin espresso martini with toasted marshmallows on top (not pictured). The food was so so good. The calamari was crispy and flavorful, I enjoyed the Cacio e Pepe with the breaded chicken cutlet. I would definitely recommend this place. We have been to SUGO now for our 6th visit. Our last visit was Friday evening. It was our first time sitting in at a table as we brought my in laws. We have had nothing but good things to say and have recommended friends and family to visit. The small plate menu is great, Happy hour every day Monday through Friday is also a great way to skip cooking dinner and stop by for a small bite, a salad and a drink. on our initial visit the bar manager seem to be having a bad day which we overlooked and we are glad that we did. The Sunday gravy, the vongole, meatball, and salads have not disappointed. if you are in the area give it a shot I don't think you'll be disappointed. We are from Sandy Hook and had not been to Sugo yet. Day after Thanksgiving and we were tired and hungry after dropping off a relative in Stamford. We were not disappointed . Our first experience was with our waiter, he understood we wanted to have a drink and just relax . Curtis was patient and sincere. He never rushed us .Curtis was always available when we needed him. Our experience with Sugo was special because of Curtis, The food was delicious, my husband had stuffed pork chop and I had the special which was scallops on top of risotto. We also the tiramisu for dessert, light and delicious . It was such a delight , because we stayed , we weren't rushed. Let me first say that I love this place and that my wife and I have enjoyed ourselves here many times. The service is always great (and it was also great tonight) and the food is usually solid. I was by myself tonight. Had one of those days and just wanted a drink at the bar (we love the bar at Sugo) and a good meal with no surprises. What I got was a heapin' helpin' of disappointment - which was a most unwelcome surprise. Like I said - the service is always great and tonight was no different. It was a Tuesday so I'm not sure we had the "A" staff in the house, but behind the bar tie young kid who made my martini and took my dinner order did a first rate job. Two stools down to my left s where the trouble began. I din't know how long these two braying donkeys had been there, or how many glasses of whatever red blend they had poured down their obnoxiously loud gullets, but they were clearly and painfully (for any within earshot) unaware of their surroundings. The sheer volume and piercing pitch of their voices and cartoonish guffawing had to be unsettling to anybody within 20 feet of these two circus clowns. My thought in telling this part of the tale is this - if you're going to go to a bar and drink to get drunk and get loud and act like you're ringside at Summer Slam, GO TO A BAR. Not a restaurant where there are 10-15 people within five feet of you trying to have conversation and a nice dinner while you're busy putting on a show for...well I have no idea who you were trying to impress. But suffice it to say that all I could think about was getting the hell out of there. The restaurant can't kick them out - I get that. But if the Sugo bar becomes a drinker's bar where Newtown barflies descend like magpies for Happy Hour revelry and treat the place like the corner dive bar at midnight on a Saturday - I'm out. Now to the meal. I'll make this simple. When your menu says that the Chicken Scarpariello is a French cut BREAST of chicken - don't give me a thigh and a leg. Inwouldn't have ordered it if I knew it was going to be a thigh and a leg. I got halfway through the thigh before I realized it - and the leg held zero interest for me. I told the bartender and he apologized but also came back saying that French Cut meant the leg gets included. Which is not correct - a french cut chicken breast is a specialty cut of chicken where the boneless, skin-on breast is prepared with the first wing joint and tendon (drumette) still attached. Not the drumstick and not the thigh. So I got a qualified apology but no real admission that anything had gone amiss. I think if it weren't for the two loud donkeys down the way, I wouldn't have really cared that much about the chicken. But please - get it right, Sugo. And don't let the bar turn into a "bar". That's not who you are. read more

Sugo is a beautiful brand new modern Italian restaurant located in Sandy Hook. We stopped in for a drink and were instantly impressed. Our bartender told us they had just opened about a week ago and she took some time to explain some of the drinks they had on the menu. We ordered two of their signature cocktails and we were very pleased. Amazing mixology and creativity went into our hand crafted drinks. I also loved that they served freshly sliced bread with seasoned dipping oil along with our drinks. It's an added generosity that we appreciated. While we didn't order any food on this visit, we are absolutely planning to return for dinner soon. We love Sugo. The ambiance and food is amazing. We go here for almost every occasion and love it. However, we just left there EXTREMELY disappointed because they ran out of their signature dessert, the Sugo Cake, at 7:45pm on a Thursday. Every time we go there we look forward to the cake and have even driven to Newtown from Danbury just to pick one up. We always look forward to it. If you have a dessert named after your restaurant that you know is a fan favorite, you should never run out. Really upsetting and not great customer service. read more

This eatery is very well done inside. They did a great job on decor and design. It's warm and inviting. We went on a very cold evening and it would be nice if there was a way to stop the freezing air from hitting patrons every time the door was opened, but that's minor. Another minor issue is the parking. So you may be on the street. We had a great table and a very nice server. She was honest about menu choices and gave us great suggestions. It was a very busy night and they did a good job getting food out. We felt a little ignored a few times but understandable. The food is above average. Nothing to "wow" about. It's the same food and flavors a 100 other restaurants serve on the daily, but It's a great location for those that live that way and a good choice for a night out. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat there again unless I'm the neighborhood. If you want a nice night, a decent meal and live in the area, it's a solid place to visit. read more

The food was completely delicious. We had calamari, lamb chops, shrimp & scallops, filet mignon, and chicken caprese. Everything was amazing! The seasonal sangrias both the winterberry and the Autumn Harvest were heartwarming and refreshing, but the winterberry definitely had a smoother taste, unless you're a lover of cinnamon then definitely go for the autumn harvest. The lamb chops were one of the best I've had in quite awhile, the meat was tender and flavorful. To finalize our meal we split two desserts we had the pistachio creme brûlée and the Tiramisu. The pistachio crème was so smooth and delicious and it had crumbled pieces of pistachios on top. However I did expect that the crème would taste like pistachio instead of regular creme. The tiramisu was ok, just tasted too much like coffee. The restaurant was super busy, I would highly suggest making a reservation in advance before coming. We sat all the way in the back near the kitchen area, it was very smoky and at some points our eyes were burning from the smoke in the area- not sure if the exhausts aren't working properly or what the issue is but it is a bit overwhelming and our clothes and hair wreaked of food by the time we left. Otherwise, it is a very cute place, cozy and inviting and I will definitely be returning. Our servers were friendly, courteous and always nearby. Let's say we were the last to leave. read more
