This is our go-to sushi place, partially because it's only 5 miles from our home in Shoreview and partially because it's awesome. My husband likes to get the Shoka Zen, which comes with a CRAZY amount of food for only about $23. Personally, I prefer the North Oaks Roll - seriously, get it. SO GOOD. Sushi is always fresh and delicious, and some of the servers feel like close personal friends at this point. :) Bonus, we have never EVER had to wait for a table, likely because this little gem is hidden in the suburbs where nobody expects to find good sushi! read more

Suishin is new in the area, so they do have a few kinks to work out. However, if you like sushi you will like this place. Sushi is one of those foods that is either great or it sucks - I've never found it in between. Suishin's sushi is high quality and prepared well, unlike Osaka in Roseville, which is the only other option around (sadly, I live in a restaurant no mans land). My wife is not a big sushi eater, but has found that everything she has ordered has been good. We now come here about 3 times a month. We're thankful to not have to consider Panino's (which I know many like, but I consider it Applebee's with a different name) or Kozlak's (which caters to the over 60 crowd these days) anymore. My wife and I love sushi. Not many good restaurants in the immediate area, and zippo for Shoreview. If you find a good sushi place, stick with it, there hard to find. Suishin is a breathe of fresh air, for the immediate neighborhood. Go in the evening, has a nice ambience, and my wife and I had fun trying out different martinis. Found this restaurant completely on accident and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice surroundings with excellent sushi. I have been back often and always found the people be friendly. The wait staff is always good. The food is well excellent with large portions of very fresh fish in the sushi. Suishin has become our favorite goto sushi place. read more

I had to write a review to try to balance this restaurant's overall rating. As Curtis mentioned, the decor is really quite nice and upscale for a strip mall. The gyoza was above average. The California, spicy tuna, asparagus and tuna rolls were all very good and reasonably priced. The shrimp tempura roll had a sweet sauce that my wife and I were split on. We enjoy sushi and have been to all of the best options in the Twin Cities. We are very pleased to have one which is on par with the best, near home! read more

first the positives: the atmosphere was great. it's a clean place, and the staff was attentive. the reason I gave this only 2 stars, is because our entire party felt the food was way overpriced for the quality. the Sea Bass tempura was chewy, the noodle dish, rice bowl, and some kind of beef/broth dish were all just ok in flavor and quality. We also ordered 4 sushi rolls, which were fresh, large, and pretty. The rolls themselves were pretty good, I especially liked the spicy tuna, however the wasabi served with it was completely bland. The server was friendly and attentive, but he seemed confused about the dishes. Some of the people at our table weren't exactly sure what they ordered, and when the food came the server seemed just as confused about the dishes. He also didn't know which person at the table got soup before their meal, so he put down 3 bowls of soup before the meal and the 6 of us had to figure out who was supposed to have the soup. I wouldn't think that's a huge deal, but for $20 a plate, I'd expect the server to keep track of who ordered which dish. the review on yelp said this is good for kids, maybe for older kids, but not younger kids. The ambiance is kind of upscale and it's a small quiet place. If your young ones make even a small noise the entire restaurant will hear it. read more

Suishin makes excellent sushi, and is only slightly inferior to Origami, the best in the Twin Cities. It rates a full 4.5, and would rate 5 if it had a wider variety. The quality of the fish is excellent, the preparation is good, especially the hand rolls, and the atmosphere is modern and relaxed. This'll is a diamond in the rough. read more

I had terrible service. My drink came 15 min after I ordered it and my boyfriends came after our sushi came. They forgot one of our soups and the sushi was mediocre- it didn't have any flavor. AND I thought it was odd there were too very young children working- seating and clearing tables. read more

Nice atmosphere, we've eaten here several times and the food has been reliably good. We were a bit spoiled living downtown for several years and having tons of options for sushi and affordable happy hour options. But now that we live in the north metro Suishin is our favorite local place for sushi. read more

We tried the sampler dinner, so got to try many things. Enjoyed them all, but Sashimi is my favorite and it was good! Service.......ummmm....nice enough waitress, but it took a long time to take our original order. Others were impatiently waiting for service and it was NOT busy . We had about 8 different courses and unfortunately most of them came at one time and we waited for the first for about 15 minutes after ordering. Beautiful restaurant inside. We don't go there any more. We used to go fairly often. The food is OK. The atmosphere is only fair. The service is fair. Bartender service very spotty. Doesn't ever seem that popular. If you get the guy who looks like he may be the owner watch out. We stopped by during happy hour. Asked what they had on special. I specifically ordered a rail whisky/coke and my friend the house wine. He feigned sort of confusion. Then picked up a bottle of some whiskey and asked if this was OK. I said yes. Same with the wine, fumbled around looking at the wine bottles and asked of this was OK. You can probably see what was coming. I got up-charged for the drinks. He acted very brusk when I later asked him about it. He knew what he was doing! I don't really care what they charge and I drink what I like but I really dislike being treated like that. Suishin was recently opened by the former sushi chef from Kikugawa's and it is a beautiful ultramodern place. He has served us excellent sushi at Kikugawa's for years so we wanted to check out his new place and were amazed at what a great place it was. We eat at the sushi bar (so we did not try the regular menu) but the sushi is fresh, tasty and nicely done. The staff are all extremely friendly with excellent service. The sushi chef told us they get fresh sushi and fresh food daily to maximize quality. They also have a bar and very nice outdoor patio. Has to be the best sushi in the northern suburbs, read more

Went with a group of 8 and had a great time and great sushi. We tried about 9 different sushi rolls and also had the chef create a nice sampler platter for us. All Fresh and Tasty. My two favorite rolls? The Suisin and the Snow White roll. Great service by Kelly, beautiful bar, and great decor. We only ordered Maki and Nigiri and thought prices were very reasonable. My wife and I have been to Suishin several times and have to say its great. The sushi is the best in the area, well prepared and excellent amounts of fresh fish (unlike Osaka who shaves their fish paper thin). Ambiance is great as is the service.
