The place was very quiet (as in noise) inside during happy hour but had about 7 tables of customers by the time we left. I love Sushin!!! If you're a vegetarian like me, my favorite thing to get is the Garden Roll. IT'S INCREDIBLE!

This place is perfect. Eat here--you will not be disappointed. I usually get the nabeyaki udon (soooo satisfying), but I've also had their teriyaki chicken, vegetable tempura, agedashi tofu, sushi, and a few other things. Everything is excellent, and you get good value for your dollar. This is also one of the few places where I have never (knock on wood) had an item missing from a carry out order. Staff are friendly and efficient. Once indoor dining is a thing again, I look forward to meals in their cozy dining room. read more

Not a bad place at all. We came just to hang out and try their sushi. The venue is really nice and well-done. They have two bars, a sushi bar, and a drink bar separated. It was actually surprising to see this nice of a place in a strip mall area. The service by Alex (our server) and Wei (sushi chef) was also really good. Alex explained the menu and service and got refills for us as needed. I got the Negamaki, sashimi platter (15 assorted cuts), salad, and dashu tofu. I also tried some of my cousin's volcano roll. My platter was decently good, but not all the fish tasted of extreme freshness. The super white tuna was off-the chain as well as the tuna, but the salmon and the other two types were just okay. The volcano roll was beautiful though and had great texture and taste. The only thing was that the rice didn't seem 'perfectly' cooked/fresh. Overall of sushi places, I would say it's not bad. The negamaki is a thinly sliced beef wrapped around scallions which I didn't like. Decent meat, but no real taste and the scallions overpowered my taste buds. The dashu tofu was good. Really light well done breading on the tofu and it came in a nice light sauce. Recommended!! Good venue, good service, but just okay food. :( read more

Finding fresh fish is no easy task, especially if you're not always willing to make the drive to the Twin Cities. Some nights, my sushi cravings are so bad and I don't want to drive more than 5 miles, making my options limited to either AYCE (Tokyo Sushi or Akita) or to the disappointing Osaka. However, ever since I've discovered Suishin, its been a savor for my late night cravings. I remember feeling a bit skeptical the first time I placed my order. Suishin's location is within a very tiny strip mall and the mall didn't initially give off a good vibe-- I'd probably describe it as somewhat sketchy. The exterior was a bit off-putting with some skimpy curtains concealing the window panels. However, once you open the door there's a complete 360. Low-lit, cozy lighting, Japanese styled lanterns, shades and tones of warm red and blue emitting from the inside. The slices of fish on the nigiri is generous compared to some sushi bars, and very fresh; you can still smell the sea (it's not an overbearing, but rather pleasant odor). Something unique about Suishin with their nigiri is that there's a small dab of wasabi smeared on the underside which always give you a kick in your mouth and melts beautifully. My other takeout experiences with them have been the dinner bento box and a Crunchy Roll. These meals tasted a bit generic and didn't really leave that much of an impression. I do find their tempura dipping sauce to taste a bit strange (lemony). After always coming back for take-out I decided to stop by for dinner to test whether the quality of food is as phenomena as my take-out experiences and to enjoy the nice atmosphere and possible service. Without a doubt, I was very pleased. Our waitress Emma was very attentive and simply kind. She made sure that we enjoyed our food. The Yosenabe was superb. The broth was rich, light in color, and bombarded with so many flavors. Beef, chicken, crab, fish, mussels and a wide variation of veggies. The broth was simply sweet and savory in flavors. The proportion were also generous that it takes two to finish and it's only 22$! I was also very content with the Sushi Sandan. It came with tender, well marinated grilled chicken teriyaki, heaps of shrimp and vegetable tempura, 3 pieces of nigiri and kappa sushi, miso soup and rice. I haven't enjoyed a sushi dinner like this in a pretty long time. The food stands out and coming back goes without question! Overall, Suishin probably isn't as impressive as some sushi bars located within the Twin Cities, but for its location it does a great job (hence the four stars). It's surprising how fresh their sashimi and nigiri always taste considering their location. The price is reasonable considering the quality you get. Went to Suishin with a few friends for my wife's and my first ever sushi experience. Our friends all enjoy sushi and eat it regularly, but we have never been tempted to consume raw fish on our own before. Our friends convinced us to give it a shot, so there we were. All that to say, I have literally nothing to compare this against, so take it with a grain of salt (although our experienced sushi eating friends said it was pretty good). It was not super promising when we got there. It's in a average to below average strip mall and looks uninviting from the outside. Once you get in though it is really nice, very sleek cool design. We had made a reservation, but could have easily all sat at our own tables on a Monday night, so feel free to follow an impulse to eat sushi without worrying about getting in. We let others order for us and ended up sharing a large sample of options among the table. We had a nigiri platter (I ate tuna, squid, and salmon) which was fine but I thought kind of bland. I don't yet see the point of nigiri. We also had a caterpillar roll, number nine roll, volcano roll, and a suishin roll. All of those were pretty good. My favorites were the caterpillar roll and the number nine. A few of our options were supposed to be spicy, but I didn't really think any of them were. I overcompensated with too much wasabi one time and breathed fire out my nose briefly. Be careful, you only need a very small amount. We ended up ordering seconds of the number nine and volcano roll. The sushi all tasted very fresh and light, but also filling by the time we were done. We'd come back again. read more

Everytime I go to Suishin I feel happy! I leave with (a full belly if eating in) or a pile of delicious sushi that delights my family and guests. Sunny, the hostess who is there most times I visit, warms the room with her smile and friendly greetings. I cannot recommend Suishin highly enough. Food is fresh (for Minnesota, you can't expect caught off the boat sushi) and delicious. The Aspen roll is my favorite and perfect for those just starting a sushi love affair. The bento boxes are neat but I don't always like what's in them. Customer service is fantastic whether the place is dead or filled. Ambiance is very nice also. Coming from California I'm used to a different level of sushi but this experience was pleasant... nothing that would blow I your mind like red lantern used to do but if you're craving sushi and don't want to drive downtown I'd recommend it... the north oaks roll was great, suishin roll was ok- I didn't care for the asparagus, number 9 was ok.... the miso was little better then average (I'd have it again), the house salad I'd skip. The down sides were- the house salad had about 1/4 cup of water in it so couldn't taste much of the dressing unless I wanted to drink it out of the bowl... we were the only ones there, with the exception of the owners kids who were doing homework in the middle of the dining room... the server was nice. Let's start off with saying I am from the East Coast and the sushi is out there is always exceptional. So it is safe to say that I am a huge sushi fan! I was a little hesitant getting sushi in the Midwest but this place got a lot of great reviews and the photos looked quite appetizing! When I first walked in the atmosphere of the restaurant was modern and very clean. However, they told us the kitchen closed at 2:00pm so we could only order sushi. I found that a little odd due to that information not being listed on their website. The service in my opinion was not that great. The woman who was our server only took our order, gave us our food and then gave the check. Not very friendly nor attentive. The sushi itself was overall decent. I got the spicy yellow tail roll and the shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp tempura was terrible. The shrimp wasn't crispy so the roll was mushy. Also, the sauce was too sweet for my liking. However, my sister said her sushi was delicious. Overall the sushi was decent and I would return to try their Chinese food. read more

The sushi was fairly priced, $2-$4 less for some rolls that I have had at other places around the Twin Cities. The chef that was on duty when we were dining was fast, and rolled Sushi amazingly well. We went to this place the night after we tried Red Lantern in White Bear Lake and were relieved to find a L.A. quality sushi place in the Twin Cities. It was pretty quiet for 8 p.m. on a Saturday, but perhaps that's because of its northern suburb/strip mall location. Some of the best sushi in L.A. can be found in tiny strip mall locales, so while we weren't deterred by this, I'm wondering if the good people of Minnesota are. Trust Benjamin G and my reviews - get in your car (or Uber) and head on over to this place! And seriously consider an Uber if you're going to imbibe; I've been told the suburban popo are quite vigilant and there were several people pulled over on side roads when we left. We discovered this wonderful sushi place via a Groupon deal. The food was all very fresh, plentiful, and delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices--even without a Groupon--were very reasonable for what we got. The Twin Cities' northern suburbs aren't always a mecca for excellent food, but this place was an exception. We will definitely return! read more

For the middle of nowhere suburbia, this place is pretty good. I had two pretty standard sushi rolls: spicy tuna, shrimp tempura/crunchy roll, and both were delicious. The spicy tuna could have been a little spicier but that's okay. My date had one of the rice bowls, which I tried, and that was also scrumptioussss. This bowl by the way was only $7 and pretty big! My date by no means is a light eater. Hehe. I had a cocktail for $7 and he had three tall Sapporo beers at $5/each. Some of the items on the dinner menu were a little hefty compared to other Japanese restaurants I have been to but over all, they had fairly decent prices. Btw our waiter Alex was hilarious. Best. Sushi. Ever. I am not a sushi expert but we are obsessed with this place! We are actually starting to become regulars which is totally awesome. Their garden roll is to die for, it's one of the most expensive rolls but it's worth every penny. All of the waiters are super nice and the ambiance is great for a small sushi place. The food was great and the INITIAL service but the server, 'Alex' with glasses and a ponytail was COMPLETE PIG!!!! We presented our waitress with a Groupon that was given to my friend as a gift and he came over and accused us of bootlegging it and refused to honor it. Not only were we incredibly embarassed as the Groupon was given to us as a gift but he proceeded to loudly argue with us a mock us upon exiting. We will NEVER come here again because of this and if we do, I'll make sure that all of the customers in the establishment are made aware of the poor service that he had demonstrated. Saw a Groupon (at least the second time I've seen one for them) so we decided to give them a try. For us, Origami is the best the Twin Cities has to offer, but it's spendy (and rightly so) and now that we live in the northeast suburbs it's also a haul. We've been looking for a closer sushi place and this is the best in the area by far. Their sushi is beautiful and the rolls have the chef's touch as they are slightly, but fantastically different than same-named ones elsewhere. My only wish is that their sake selection be bigger, but that's not going to keep us from going back again and again. read more

The pork was juicy and the breading was not overwhelming. The presentation of all the dishes was fantastic. This is a great place for a quiet evening dinner.
