Suki sushi is a hidden gem in Sugar Land. It's tucked away in a small corner next to TJ Max/Pho ben plaza. I honestly would not have known about it without yelp scrolling, but am happy that I found it. I first came with my dad and we ordered the suki chef's choice assorted sashimi. It came with a grid of 9 different types of selected sashimi with at least 2 pieces each which made for a perfect 2 person sampler course. My favorites were the chutoro and the sweet shrimp which were both so fresh and vibrant. I will say Suki is better known for their huge rolls. They have a 3 roll lunch combo with a list you can choose from. We ordered the crunch roll, spicy scallop roll, and the salmon maki. The salmon maki really stood out to me because it had an insane amount of fish to the point where I was tasting more fish than rice. I have also tried a few specialty rolls. One that stood out to me was the Hwy 6 roll which was a soft shell crab roll with unaqi on top. It came with a flammable paper that they lit up which left a nice smokey taste and gained some presentation points. Overall, yummy lowkey sushi spot that I am excited to come back to try. Service was very nice and reasonably fast.

Suki Sushi is a bit hidden away in a shopping center, but, in my opinion, they offer some real quality and value. Suki is a small restaurant inside, but they were not busy when we visited for lunch on a Saturday. We were promptly seated and had our order taken and then we were treated to some tasty sushi after a very brief wait. One item that I implore everyone to order is the chef's choice assorted sashimi. You get 9 different seafood that is the best that they have on hand that day. On our particular visit, we got lucky with a good assortment of shellfish including a large and plump sweet shrimp and two very tender whole abalone. We also really enjoyed their rolls, namely the simple salmon roll. We ordered the 3 roll lunch combo and a special roll a la carte just to have a good variety to try. The 3 roll lunch combo definitely caught us a bit off guard because of how large the rolls were. We got the crunch roll (we will skip this next time in favor of a raw roll), spicy scallop roll, and previously mentioned salmon roll. The salmon portion inside was honestly really big and we felt quite full at this point. The spicy scallop was tasty as well, but we felt that there was a bit too much sauce on top. The special roll we tried was the Hwy 6 roll, which has unagi on top and soft shell crab inside. The Hwy 6 was tasty as well, but definitely not my favorite item of the day--the presentation was very neat though! I really hope to be back to continue to see what they can offer with their chef's choice assorted sashimi and to try more of their special rolls.

They only have sake and beer , no cocktails. Sushi was fresh and tasty ... nothing fancy but not boring either. Small, quiet location at the corner of the shopping ctr. No wait on Friday evening but it wasn't dead either. I enjoyed our dinner. Better if there were cocktails too.

Summary: Per the employee, this place has changed ownership, though I'm not sure if it just happened or if it had already transitioned from being another restaurant or another owner. Over the years, this location has housed many different restaurants, and I've lost track of all the names. I decided to give it a try after seeing all the 5-star reviews, even though I was skeptical. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how it's getting such high ratings. Problem 1: When I picked up my food, there was only 1 table occupied on a Sunday night--that's usually not a good sign. The ambiance hasn't changed much from the previous restaurants; it feels like they just switched cuisines. I ordered a bento box online, thinking it would give me a chance to try a variety of items. I can choose up to 3 options for each box and I got 2 boxes, which ended up with sashimi, nigiri, rolls, and beef teriyaki. However, I wasn't given an option to select the desired doneness of the beef, which I found odd. For $18 a bento box, I expected much better quality--this is not cheap. Problem 2: Everything was tightly wrapped in plastic, which felt strange for Japanese cuisine. It made me wonder if this was done for safety reasons, but it ruined the experience of eating freshly prepared food. Unwrapping everything was tedious, especially since we were hungry and ready to eat right away. It gave the impression that the food had been sitting around and wasn't freshly prepared. Food: - Beef teriyaki: Overcooked to the point of being rock hard. Steak should never be this overdone. - Sashimi: This was a chef's choice selection, I was expecting salmon or tuna, but they gave us yellowtail and it was extremely fishy; my wife couldn't even eat it. - Nigiri: This was also a chef's choice selection, but it gave us 6 different fish instead of 3 of the same kind, which I find it odd, and it included squid and mackerel--2 types of fish we don't like and that aren't commonly served. Typically, chefs go with more popular options that appeal to most people, like salmon or tuna. None of the nigiri tasted good or fresh. - Salmon Roll: They looked like they were made by a beginner or a child, with deformed shapes and a homemade appearance. TLDR: To say I was disappointed is an understatement. We ate the food immediately after picking it up, as soon as it was ready, but it still wasn't fresh. The steak was tough, the sushi rolls were poorly made, and everything being wrapped in plastic stripped away any sense of quality. For the price, this experience was absolutely unacceptable.

My kids and I was craving sushi and found this gem. We came on a Sunday afternoon and was seated right away. The service was good and the waiter was attentive. They have limitless options of sushi to choose from and the prices were reasonable. We opted for a few rolls, seaweed salad and edamame. The food came out fast and the presentation was perfect! The food was really good and upon leaving, the hostess gave my kids a handful of tasty treats. Parking is plenty as this restaurant is at the end of a shopping center. There's parking directly in front of the restaurant and there's parking in the parking lot. I will absolutely return!

Hidden menu. Excellent !!! They always did excellent job. Definitely will recommend to everyone who is looking for Japanese food.

Reasonably priced lunch specials with a good variety of options and attentive service. It was perfect for a casual weekday date lunch! Will be coming back!

TL,DR: Some of the best sushi in the Houston area, with super creative and tasty rolls! This hidden gem sushi spot is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in Sugar Land, TX and I'm so glad I tried it! Their sushi rolls IMO are in the upper echelon of quality for Houston sushi spots, especially when considering the relatively affordable price ($14-$16 per roll). Also, all of their rolls are plated and decorated very nicely, which definitely improves the experience as well. Will definitely be frequenting this place more often when I want sushi! Here's what I ordered: -Suki Special Roll - shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with tuna, salmon, spicy crab, tobiko and green onion -Highway 6 Roll - unagi eel and fresh crab meat -Miu Miu Roll - fresh crab meat, tobiko fish roe, shrimp tempura, spicy mayo -Agedashi Tofu

Wowowow. What a breath of fresh air suki sushi is. 1. The staff- 12/10 The owner is so kind and friendly and was gracious to give us a complimentary mochi dessert and a cute sushi keychain to thank us for checking them out as they're still relatively new. 2. The food- 10/10 I'm pretty picky with sushi and get scared trying new places because you never know but this sushi was so bomb. The owner/chef created his own signature rolls and the one we got were chef's kiss! So so scrumptious. My favorite roll was I think- the flaming dragon roll. So so so addictive! I would've eaten another one or two! 3. The ambiance- 10/10 It was nice and clean everything that you could ever ask for. I wish the best for Suki Sushi! Come and check them out! My friend and I will definitely be spreading the word for the fantastic experience, hospitality and top tier sushi.

Suki Sushi is having their soft opening now. They are located on a strip mall with plenty of parking space. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Though the restaurant is small, it has plenty of seats for a party of four, and maybe bigger group. I ordered the assorted sashimi, and the flaming dragon roll. I would give A+ for presentation on both dishes. The sculptured ice carp on the sashimi plate was beautiful. The sashimi slices were thick and fresh. But it would have been better if there were more variety of sashimi. The flaming dragon roll was flavorful. However, the tempura shrimp was not crispy. Service was awesome and attentive. I would come back to try other dishes.

My boyfriend and I planned for sushi night at the house and ordered to-go from this establishment! If you're local, this place used to be a teahouse as well as another restaurant. Here's a coincidence: my uncle and aunt who live nearby had a dog named Suki, who passed away this year. Some time later, I noticed this place became "Suki Sushi" and if that wasn't a sign for me to check it out, I don't know what is. Service was great. Our food wasn't ready yet, but they let us sit down inside and offered us a pitcher of water. It was quiet on a Sunday night, with a few patrons around, but I'd take that as an invitation to slow down and enjoy your company, food, and drinks. Note: if you love ginger like we do, we asked for extra and they delivered! Highway 6 Roll - the right amount of salty & sweet. (can you tell we love eel?) Rainbow Roll - various fish. absolutely fantastic. Mango Salmon Roll - our favorite. refreshing. Eel Nigiri - spectacular, give me 17 of these. Yellowtail Nigiri - boyfriend didn't like it as much, but I LOVED it.

The most gorgeous sashimi platter I've ever seen.

Who would have thought that some of the best sushi in the greater Houston area would be found right here in my back yard in Sugar Land??? When I initially saw this place open up, I was worried because right across the street you could get Sushi Masa or Keepers - both established entities for locals in the area, and I didn't know how this place would distinguish itself. Here's the thing - if you're looking for typical, run-of-the-mill, Americanized sushi and you're just trying to fill your belly, those places are fine. This place, however, is where you go if you want a high quality meal - in the same tier as Sushi Miyagi on Bellaire or Uchi on Westheimer. From the outside, the restaurant looks bland and unassuming (thanks, Sugar Land business ordinances) but don't let appearances fool you. Upon stepping inside, you have a beautifully decorated establishment perfect for a date night. Once seated, the tableware blew me away. From the wood-engraved chopsticks, to the tea kettle of soy sauce, you can tell these people really poured their heart and souls into making even the smallest details of their restaurant presentable and delightful. And of course the crowning jewel - the food. Wherever the owner sources their fish from is on a different level. The quality of the salmon and tuna sashimi especially stand out, and rival some of the ridiculously expensive omakase places I've had in New York City. The tuna was so meaty and the salmon was so fatty I want to go back right now and just order a platter of both. The takoyaki had an extra crispy exterior while maintaining a smooth, creamy interior. The tempura batter was light and had a slighty sweet, aromatic flavor (compared to the typically heavy, oily tempura most restaurants serve), and the spicy tuna hand roll was so good we had to order extra. Is this place more expensive than your typical Americanized sushi joint? Yes. Is it worth every penny ? Also yes. The team behind this restaurant deserve all the praise and success in the world. Please give them a visit - you won't be disappointed.

He's been telling me about this place for a while, so I came in already expecting great sushi, and it definitely delivered. First off, they have all-day happy hour, which is always a win. We started with the yellowtail sashimi, and it was incredibly fresh and flavorful such a great way to kick things off. For drinks, he ordered a Legend Old Fashioned, and I went with the lychee martini... and yes, I had two because it was that good light, slightly sweet, and super refreshing. For our rolls, I got the Hot Momma roll and he had the Julie Crunch roll. Everything came out perfectly fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. You can really tell they put care into both the quality and the experience. Also, shoutout to Emilio he was so sweet and attentive throughout the night and really made the experience even better. Between the food, drinks, and the overall vibe, this place checked all the boxes. I can 100% see this becoming one of our regular date night spots going forward. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for great sushi and a relaxed atmosphere!

Ok ladies and gents here it goes. Pros: 1. take photos here…read moreit's beautiful /clean 2. Staff is friendly 3. Plenty of foods to try sushi tacos / rolls, ramen, meats, desserts etc etc and the taste was fine. Nothing more or wow factor but a good experience to taste new things. Cons: 1. Greed, let me explain. There is an all you eat buffet option or ala carte menu. Whoever you are seated with you must choose the same option. ( not a problem) There is a two hour time limit to eat ala cart or buffet option( not a problem) Food is fresh and brought to you buffet or ala cart you are served not a problem. Here's the issue. 1. Every table in our section at one time or another was missing orders. Every table had a whispered complaint about the speed of service and the two hour limit. Not amongst their group but to the staff. One guy simply ordered a fry and he waited for 30 minutes for them. He was asked since it took so long does he still want them. He said yes because that's all I want I don't eat sushi but I am here with my family. He paid the AYCE price but couldn't get a fry while the rest of his family ate. There were at least 12 tables in total in my section all with their own waiter , server and clean up crew assigned to their table. They were equipped with staff. There was no shortage here for wait staff , the bar or the hosts that greet you. Nobody ate at the same time. At our table my husband received three items while the 7 of us waited for 15 or more minutes to receive a plate at all. Including the 3 and 5 year old. What does come out quickly are the sushi rolls but the other menu items require you to pack more than patience. 2. We chose all you can eat option and I ordered ramen, a sushi taco, and a bao bun. The orders did not come to the table altogether. Imagine going to a restaurant where they serve chips and salsa and they only give you one chip and a spoon of salsa at a time to eat before they bring the next option or chip and spoon. This is not an exaggeration. Then after you eat that chip and salsa on a spoon it takes 10-30 minutes for you to order another chip and salsa. I am not impatient. If a restaurant puts a two hour time limit to eat at a buffet then it is unreasonable for someone to wait 10-30 minutes to receive food that was ordered and can fit on a tea cup saucer. We were able to order three times. The waiters didn't know who the food belonged to and combined some of the orders on taco separators as to not have to use too many dishes. 3. This restaurant has figured out to save money , cut waste , manipulate how much you eat by serving the smallest of portions and manipulating the speed of serving you to control how much they are actually feeding you to save money and make a profit. My family spent 300 plus dollars today. Ordered three times and each time it took a lot of time to receive our food. Also the sushi tacos come out the slowwwwwwweeeessttttt. It's what I saw every table order but it took the same amount of time to actually receive them thirty or more minutes. No one complained about this in fury but many discussed it with staff and with frustration amongst their families. The staff would tell some of us something ran out and then come back to say they were mistake. Or I put the order in but I thought another brought it. This is to control time and food output. It happened at all 12 tables. We were in one of the private room sections for the larger parties and not one of them didn't have a complaint that could not be heard. I love a great staff but I paid for more than a friendly smile. 4. If you have left over food you must pay for the leftovers using the ala carte price. This makes no sense because if you pay almost $40 for a buffet and you are trying new foods who would eat something they didn't like. This forces you to eat what you are familiar with and it doesn't allow you to try new things on the menu. Conclusion: 1. Just know before you go I think this place is good enough for a one time experience but just be prepared for these antics once you go. 2. Tacos are good but the restaurant makes sure you don't get to go crazy over them if you love them by taking 30 minutes at a time to bring you one at a time even if you ordered more than one and if you don't like them you still have to pay because of the no leftover rule. 3. MAKE a RESERVATION!!! Especially if you have a larger party. The check-in process for walking in to sign on to their waitlist is done on an iPad. Ask the server when the IPad goes to sleep and a passcode is needed to sign into the waitlist. Just make the call to get reservations.

The place is actually pretty inside. And they even offer you kimonos to wear for pictures or social media or even to wear as you're enjoying your dinner. I thought that was cute. I actually would never wear one just because, you know, germs and all but.. still cute. Lol. They kept the buffet seats clean which I definitely appreciate. The servers were kind and I would say overall I had a really pleasant experience human to human, but human to food... Let's just say. We're breaking up...it's not me... it's you. LOL

I walk in with a group of 5, ask for a gluten free menu, and the hostess happily got the menu and brought it with us to the table. Our server brought me GF soy sauce and told me he would make sure my food was safe even though it was on the GF menu. I got the calamari and Sugar Land sampler, and it was all great. The fish was fresh, the restaurant didn't have a concerning fishy smell, it was clean and nicely decorated with plenty of space for patrons so we weren't on top of each other. One of my guests ordered the wrong roll, and he was very patient and kind, and he talked through the different rolls to make sure the one she wanted was exactly what she was looking for. He made suggestions and took his time, and he treated her with respect and care. I was truly impressed! One could say that GF options are minimal, but for me, this menu had a little bit of everything for gluten allergies, and my server made me feel very safe eating there with my allergy. I will enthusiastically go back to Japaneiro any day, especially with this level of service!

Everything was delicious! Our waitress was great too! This is my new favorite restaurant. The place was busy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend this place.

While they don't offer lakeside seating, there are plenty of options inside the spacious, two-story restaurant. On the weekends, they indicate "No lunch AYCE" - don't be confused by the wording like we were. This only means that they don't offer the "lunch price" AYCE on the weekends. No biggie, as the dinner price/menu was perfectly fine and opened up more options for us to order. Lunch price AYCE does not offer sashimi (nigiri only), whereas dinner price AYCE has the whole menu as fair game. Some of the menu items do have limits, like the toro (1 piece/adult AYCE). Additionally, each person can order a max of 10 nigiri or sashimi per round. You also only get 1 serving of dessert per AYCE. They also have a silly rule of $0.50 per uneaten rice for nigiri; I suppose this encourages folks to fill up on rice in the nigiri, as sashimi is not an option during weekday lunch AYCE. Our party of 5 ordered a multitude of items on the menu. The fish quality was definitely there and everything tasted fresh. We ordered a few rounds of the seared nigiri, specialty nigiri, and sushi towers. Standouts were eel/unagi sashimi, crunch garlic & scallion salmon nigiri, seared Kobe beef nigiri, seared tuna nigiri, and seared yellowtail nigiri. These were the ones we ordered multiple rounds, but we made an honest attempt to at least try as much of the menu offerings as we could. If only our stomachs had more room! I will say the hot/cooked items (bulgogi, galbi, beef skewer) could have been better...but what can you say, this is a sushi restaurant. That doesn't speak for all of the hot items. I really liked the basil chicken nuggets (Taiwanese popcorn chicken) and vegetable tempura; the shrimp tempura was also a hit at the table. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive throughout our time. At times we'd forget what we had ordered of the many items, so he'd swing by the table once the food was brought out to tell us what's what, and who ordered what. Excellent service! For AYCE sushi, Oma is definitely on top of its game. I've been to a few others around Houston, and this one stands out as one of the premium ones in my opinion. Come for lunch and eat to your heart's desire, and if you're like me, you won't eat for another 30 hours.

The service was quick and friendly. The place was very clean. They played a video on a screen that we were facing that had a first person view of walking through Japan...probably Tokyo. That brought back memories. It was a nice touch. We ordered green tea, which came with its own warmer. Not as hot as I like, but the tea stayed warm through the entire meal. This looked like legit matcha rather than just tea bags in hot water. For the meal, we had tonkatsu ramen and the spicy duck ramen. We loved them both. The tonkatsu wasn't fried in a batter. It was thinly sliced with nice carmelized edges--very good. The duck was amazing! Next time, we'll try some sushi.

It was good, flavorful, and had a nice spice level but it wasn't wowing. My boyfriend and I shared the General Tso's chicken, and that was a 10 out of 10. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. It came with white rice and everything paired really well together. This is the second place I've gone to that has great General Tso's chicken, and that is definitely a compliment. I would absolutely order it again. We also tried the "Honey moon" appetizer which is a stuffed jalapeño. It had crab and cream cheese with eel sauce. The jalapeño was too crunchy for me, my preference is to have it softer but I feel like the flavor wasn't really there. One of the standout appetizers was the beef tongue from the appetizer menu. That was a 10 out of 10. It came with a sauce on top that was really good and brought everything together perfectly. We had the coconut shrimp appetizer as well. The shrimp itself was decent, but the fried coating tasted like the oil wasn't very fresh. It was crunchy, but the flavor of the oil came through, so I'd rate that about a 5 out of 10. We also ordered fried calamari . I'd rate that around a 6 out of 10. It was okay, but when you bit into it, the octopus would slide out and leave you mostly with the fried outer crust, and the crust itself wasn't that flavorful. The ambiance was beautiful, very clean, modern, and nicely designed. It felt comfortable and well put together. Service was fine, nothing that stands out.
