Sullivan Moving & Storage is LUCKY to have the dynamic duo of Juan & Carlos. They were tasked with delivering, installing, and setting up a warranty replacement adjustable bed frame that I'd been waiting months for. They were expedient but thorough and when the bed didn't work out of the box, they didn't hesitate to troubleshoot; even calling the manufacturer and being placed on perpetual hold. During the wait time they were discussing their jobs the following day and working through the logistics to manage them. I was even more impressed that efficiency was important to them on somebody else's dime. We used Sullivan /Mayflower for our move from AZ to CO. I got 3 bids for the job and emphasized in each assessment that I would need the garage and kitchen refrigerators switched out. The kitchen fridge's icemaker was broken and we were going to keep it in our CO house's garage for overflow only - no ice water hook up. The assessment with Mayflower was virtual, so there was not a live person there assessing our moving needs. I was told during the virtual visit that the fridge's could be switched out, and we should just make sure to have some cash on hand for a tip. Turns out, on the day of the move, the kitchen fridge needed to have the doors removed to fit through the door opening. This requires a third party company to do it, so that Sullivan doesn't have liability for the job. That's perfectly fine, except the guy who did my virtual visit did not think to ask if the opening (which he saw on video) would require a company to come out the day prior to remove the doors. We couldn't get a third party out there with no notice, so we had to leave our tenants with the broken icemaker which said we would fix. The moving coordinator told me that the guy who did the bid told her he watched the video and we never discussed it. This, of course, was a total lie. Now he admits we discussed it, but it isn't his fault that he didn't think about needing a third party. Because of this, we had to pay $1000 in parts and labor to repair the icemaker. As of today Sullivan/Mayflower claims to have made no mistakes, but out of goodwill they are sending me $200!! Obviously the company is not doing very well if they can't afford to reimburse a client $1000 for their mistake. I recommend finding a moving company with more integrity. My $27.5K (supposedly stress-free experience) from Prescott, AZ to SC - 21st Jun 2021 Every time I think about writing this, I feel sick, that's how bad of experience it was, from the loading to finally getting our insurance claim settled. A team of 5 people turned up on 21st June 2021, only 3 wanted to work. All of them were wearing headphones to listen to music. This caused issues, with items being left behind and one unwanted item being loaded (a garbage can with household garbage in it). I thought the headphones might be for them to communicate between themselves, woe betide if we asked questions. One of them was quite indignant about stopping his music. Early on we caught one loader vaping, close to our belongings. One used our microwave without even asking. My husband caught them arguing at the end of the day about how the trailer had been loaded. They stopped work at 5pm, started to unload some items and then reloaded them. This is the last thing a customer who is stressed out with a big move wants to see and hear. We set off the next day for South Carolina, arriving on the 25thJune. Phone calls to the coordinator, Nick, to find out the delivery status of our belongings, were not returned. We tried again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 30th June, still no response. I smelt a rat. In desperation I phoned HQ. I was informed that my belongings were stored in a trailer somewhere in Phoenix. They could not provide me with an ETA because they had no available drivers. We phoned twice a day to get an update, and wrote to the CEO of Unigroup twice, no one seemed to care. I had no pressure to leave my home in AZ as the new owners were not moving in for several months. Mayflower had loaded my belongings knowing they had no driver for SC, they lied to me. A memorable 4thJuly, I felt like was being held hostage, squatting in my new home. The phone calls and emails went on for days, still no driver. During one call, a representative suggested I rent a bed. That did not go down well. I do not mind roughing it but for this amount of time the situation was disgusting. I could not even rent a hotel room because I have 4 large dogs to look after. Eventually they got a driver and my belongings were delivered to Charleston on 16thJuly. The Charleston franchise took it from there and drove it to my home. The driver from the local franchise knocked on my door and told me "Sorry to have to tell you this, but whoever loaded your belongings in AZ need to be fired ". The local driver took photos of the state of the trailer & sent them to his boss so he knew what they were up against. I finally got to sleep in my own bed on 16th July. My belongings were loaded on the 21st June. I examined the trailer before they started offloading. It was immediately obvious that a lot of damage had occurred. It was as if our belongings had just been thrown on. Our gun safe, treadmill was trashed, a sofa was ripped, the universal gym was scratched and was filthy dirty as was the stationary bike and elliptical. All my Pier 1 fancy candles had perished in the heat. They had all melted (18 days stuck in Phoenix where the average, daily temperature was 107F). Some melted candles had seeped through the Ziploc bags and spoilt other items. Both motorbikes were scratched and dented. Unpacking was painful. I was informed that I had 9 months to make a claim. I filed the claim towards the end of October 2021. I estimated $11.5K worth of damage. Sadly, the insurance experience was just as bad as the moving experience. I had to keep chasing them. An appraiser was eventually sent, he took photos and made notes. After this it all went quiet again. We were informed that we could have nothing repaired until the claim had been completed settled. They came back and stated the candles that were damaged and associated damage caused by the wax spoiling other items was not covered. This was because the insurance did not cover climatic issues. They then sent a check for about $5K which excluded the motorbike damage. They then said I needed an additional appraiser for the motor bikes. He estimated the damage to be $3k. Once again it all went quiet from the insurance team. I had to keep chasing them. I did not cash the first check since I was advised that the claim may be deemed to be settled if I cashed the check. Eventually, the insurance people came back and said, you can't claim for the motorbikes because you probably caused the damage riding them in SC. I wrote back and said as standard practice before the motorbikes are loaded on the trailer the mileage is recorded. They should be able to verify the loaders mileage against that of the appraiser. Eventually, I was awarded $1300 for repair, not even half of the estimate. Why use an appraiser if you are not going to use his estimates? At first, I was going to contest it, but they had beaten me down. I needed some closure and to be able to put this most ghastly experience behind me. read more

This company has terrible customer service. They originally scheduled to come to our vacation home, today, from noon to 4:00 p.m., so my husband scheduled his work day, to be able to drive the 100 miles, to be there at noon. Then yesterday, late afternoon, the company text and said they had to change the time to 8 am to noon. I explained that my husband could be there at 9 am, since he was driving up from the valley, to meet the driver. They said "no problem". Then at 8:50 a.m., I received another text stating that the driver was there and no one was there, so they would have to reschedule. I texted back (tried yo call but the number doesn't accept call backs), and said, yes, my husband was there, that maybe they had the incorrect address. They texted back the correct address, as well as a picture the driver took of our front drive, empty of vehicles. I asked when the driver took the picture and was told 8:52. We have security cameras on our driveway and I sent them a picture back, with a time stamp, showing my husband arriving at 8:27, a full 30 min before the company was even scheduled to arrive, and was still unloaded his truck until 9:00 am...no one came and the driver clearly lied about being there at 8:52!! Now I have to contact Sam's club about getting another pick up scheduled and not from this company! TERRIBLE SERVICE and UNTRUSTWORTHY to claim different time... read more

I have moved to 16 cities across 8 states and know full well the things that can go wrong (or right) during a move. I also know how to pack things very well and have a solid method for keeping things 99% unharmed during transit. Well that's until we used Sullivan..... I can safely say that Sullivan/Mayflower/CMS Companies is the absolute WORST, most inept, and CRIMINAL of all the moving companies I've ever dealt with. I know that's a very serious implication, but after they "lost" my wedding ring (most likely stolen considering none of my other cheaper jewelry was touched) and "lost" my gold and silver coins that I've had for 30 years as an heirloom from my grandfather, not to mention the countless damages to furniture and boxes crushed to an almost comical level.... calling them inept and criminal is a very warranted implication. Furniture that has survived countless previous moves without a scratch were dinged, broken off, and crushed (all packed by them). All 6 or 7 of our wardrobes were opened by them and had other boxes stuffed inside, even though we never gave them permission to go through our belongings and were told by the account manager that "shouldn't" have happened. Little wonder how small expensive items went "missing." It's painful enough to lose items near to your heart, it's entirely another to be jerked around FOR A YEAR AND HALF AFTER YOUR MOVE by their "claims" department after you jump through their ridiculous hoops and Mayflower tries to gaslight you like you're the one responsible for all their carelessness. They covered the damaged furniture (a paltry $1500) but refused to cover the ring and coins. And because our driver and movers didn't notate my ring as missing on a piece of paper (apparently me sobbing in the middle of a storage unit parking lot wasn't enough to make them write something down), they have denied reimbursing me for the ring twice. Even though I called and emailed them the day it happened. Yet another shining example of their incompetence and flat out criminal behavior. But back to the move itself.....due to a "driver shortage" (which apparently was a real thing back in Sept 2021), our belongings were kept in storage by Sullivan for nearly TWO MONTHS. We were told it would take about a week to have our items driven from AZ to VA, but after a series of excuses by them, we moved end of September and never saw the entirety of our things until mid November. Due to "overflow" issues, about 2/3 of our stuff made it onto the truck and the rest wasn't sent out for another month. The guys who handled our stuff in AZ were actually quite competent and careful, but once everything made it to the east coast and got contracted out, the movers were incompetent and literally tossing our boxes to each other in plain view of all of us. And the day of our delivery is when I noticed my wedding ring was missing. Every single piece of furniture and three bikes were disassembled with parts taped and no way of knowing how to put them together again. My husband has spent hundreds of dollars getting his two bikes reassembled again. I've never had a mover disassemble every single bolt of every item like an autistic kid on cocaine. My mom's stuff was so disassembled with no markings and bolts loose everywhere that she just gave up and bought new furniture entirely. I can tell the storage site wasn't temperature controlled because our candles all melted and my husband's high end speakers sustained warping from the Phoenix heat. And did I mention the two types of cockroaches we suddenly acquired after getting our things back? Never had cockroaches before. And anytime I tried to speak with our account manager about our worries or issues, I was lectured like a schoolgirl that we "should have taken high value items with us." I can't fit all my animals, plants, suitcases, and every high value thing I own into a single SUV! It's ludicrous. They take no responsibility for their poor decisions. You expect a moving company to move your items safely from point A to point B. That's their job. And yet somehow I'M responsible for that??! I will forever hate myself for not digging deeper into the company and their reviews, because I would have my ring, my coins, and my sanity still. read more

Our move from Phoenix to Dallas was as smooth as it could be. From the in-person estimate done by Rich, to the moving coordinator Linda, to the driver Bryan, we were treated with professionalism and respect at every turn. The cost was $1500 less than the only other company we talked to, and the driver and crew were right on time for moving day. They had our entire 3 BR 2 BA home loaded and on the road in less than 4 hours! Drop off at our storage unit in Dallas went very smoothly with MO furniture or valuables missing or broken. This company "lost" (stole my IMac!) ans damaged tons of stuff. We have missing boxes, mislabeled boxes, fragile stuff barely wrapped/packed and thrown in with items that cause those items damaged. I will be reporting my missing new IMac in original box to police. This company had a parts box with nothing labeled at all so random parts have not been able to be placed with items. We completed our military move last week. I have to say that I was very worried that my belongings would make it to our new home in a new state, broken. There was little to no confidence in the team that was sent to my home to pack us up. During our pack I was incredibly disappointed In the attitude, comments, and disrespect that one particular employee had, I believe his name was Sam. We have moved many times through my husband's military career and this man stands out to me in that he did not have a professional attitude to him and made some offensive comments about our belongings. He made me feel very uncomfortable and I was thankful that he did not return the following load day. Though this person made me uneasy, I would like to add that Eva and Juan took their time and were very respectful of our home and our belongings. I'm happy to report that even with my concerns, our move from Arizona to Colorado went as smooth as can be and we had no damaged or missing items. Major plus!! This was the worst moving experience I've ever had, and I've either moved myself or a family member across the US 3 times. I moved almost 2 years ago and used this company. They damaged 20 pieces of furniture, breaking one family heirloom (that had moved 5 times) into 7 pieces, and one box was clearly pierced by a forklift. To be fair, the team that loaded my goods and unloaded them did a great job. The problem appears to be during storage and change of transport at the Phoenix warehouse, and the delivering drivers told me that the people in that warehouse don't properly handle customer goods. Once the Phoenix move administrator realized how upset I was when I saw my damaged/destroyed household goods (on move in day), she never called back. No one ever apologized. Of course they never sent me a survey since they knew I'd give them a poor rating, so the ratings on their website are clearly only from "happy customers." I fought for months to get funds to repair/replace. The insurance adjustor further damaged one piece after I warned him not to move it - and he did it anyway. Neither the insurance agents or the company advised me of Department of Transportation rights which I had, regarding arbitration. Thankfully, I had almost all my original furniture receipts (some more than 20 years old), or I never would have gotten anything close to what I received. They only care about keeping YOUR money! They were very non-responsive and I constantly needed to follow-up, keeping notes on all contacts. In my prior moves, I've had 1 item slightly damaged - no big deal - but I've never seen such horrible quality as this -- out of ~300 cartons & furniture pieces moved. The first time around the crew worked in -50 degree weather in Iowa with the windchill! Rich, the inspector giving the AZ estimate was very friendly and down to earth. This man was a pleasure to chat with. This time around I gave feedback about operating within the minimum standard time of 5 hours and Linda was more than accommodating when it came time to pay the bill. We all know movers yank you around and somehow find those last minute charges they promised were included.... no exception here. What is even more sad is that their parent company UniGroup behaves the same way. Their words of wisdom for me prior to moving day when questioning the local movers practices, was that since I had not paid them yet; I was not their customer, therefore they refused to do anything. What happened in my situation was that even after being requested to do so, Sullivan would not come to my apartment building. The day before the move they drove by and informed me that there would be a ~$700 additional charge because of my apartment building. When I disputed, they said I could pay it or find someone else, but they would not lose money on this move. Seeing as it was the day before, I had no choice but to pony up. It is safe to say that we finally have all of our belongings. My husband and I were disappointed in using Sullivan/ Mayflower for our move. We ultimately decided to choose this company even though the cost was slightly more than a couple of other quotes that we had. We were under the impression that our truck would arrive approximately when we did, it arrived a week later. I guess if we would have read the small print on dates or had that explained to us, we probably would have selected the company that told us to ship our stuff at least 2 weeks before we were going to be in our destination (rather than 5 days). We were also assured that our TV's would be packed safely. I will say that they did arrive with the screens intact, but unfortunately we had to order special parts from the manufacturer because the packers took thinks apart that were not meant to come apart. The were not broken in transit, they were taken apart. It is a hassel to be reimbursed for that by printing and faxing and waiting around for someone to come look at the boxes. On the bright side the truck driver was good with communication the tentative day of delivery as well as the contracted mover was very hard working and efficient. They were very pleasant and worked until 8:30pm unloading the truck. read more

For a local move (literally 10 houses down the street) the military chose this company for us. We met with a person who came by to take inventory and at the time we specifically stated that we did not need packaging because we only wanted them to move our bulky furniture items. For such a short move, why would I want the hassle of boxes and trash? The rep told my husband and I that was fine yet he still scheduled a packing day and told my husband not to worry because our move would be a one day job. We called yesterday to make sure we were being moved in one day and that the packing day was not needed. Instead we were told that it is their policy to schedule a packing day wether you want it or not because of previous customers. I don't give a rats you know what about previous customers, I did not ask for packing services. We were also told that they had no trucks to move us on the day they scheduled for packing which would mean we would have to extend everything (utilities, property transfer, etc.) another day. It would appear that this company like many others just tried to make more money off the government by adding extra crap we did not need. The guy even lied in his notes that we did not show him the whole house and that we would need 63 boxes for packing! The "room" he did not see was the garage because there was nothing bulky in there and we told him we were moving the items ourselves. This is a very shady company and I have traveled all over the country and overseas and have never experienced this. I canceled their service and decided to pay out of pocket for my move. read more

This is in response to the business owner. Really! Your response make no sense whatsoever! Our i​tems were damaged and/or lost. We were told to put in a claim and your claims dept. compared our items with inferior ones to give us a lower payout. We tried to reason with them to no avail. Also regarding the storage warehouse and signing off on our items, well my items WERE damaged from your warehouse to my destination. Your mover were careless and had no regard for my belongings. My items weren't ruined prior! As far as signing off, the driver was difficult. He said to us, that he checked our items against his inventory paperwork and if we wanted to check it again, it would take much too long and he had a job in another state the next day. My wrought iron patio table was ruined beyond repair. It was in the warehouse and it was marked as damaged by the driver. He was the one who brought it to our attention right away before anything else was taken off his truck. There was a piece of furniture that arrived with our items that wasn't ours. I told the driver to take it back. You don't think that my missing boxes were maybe put on another truck after the inventory was checked? ​ Also, your salesperson in AZ blatantly lied to us stating that our belongings were going to be put in crates in AZ (which they were) and delivered to the warehouse and stored it the crates (which is also true). However, the salesman said the crates would be put on trucks and be delivered to SC in the crates. That was a lie! Maybe he did this to get our business? Don't say I misunderstood him, because my husband thought the same thing. That is what we both heard and were told. Sullivan Moving & Storage employees damage and lost our belongings! It's plain and simple! Don't try to make excuses or sugarcoat what was done. The worst part is your Claims Dept gave us a payment far less than we should have received. Even after countless phone call and emails regarding our claim. Your company is disgraceful and they should feel ashamed of what I went through. I'm sure Sullivan Moving & Storage can afford to do right by their clients.....but they chose not to. SHAME! Oh, one last thing, Sullivan raised our quoted delivery price by $4000 after we signed the quoted delivery price and held us hostage to pay it or they would not delivery. Disgusting! read more

First off - this was my fifth cross country move and without hesitation the worst. Most importantly, these people are crooks: their prices are outrageous and they do not deliver anything worthy of the money. Absolutely every promise they made regarding the move, the packing, the unpacking, the time taken -- none of it was followed through. Every box in my rather large shipment was mismarked. EVERY ONE of them. Heavy pots and pans were packed on top of delicate expensive glassware in a box marked "dishes". We ate with plastic forks and spoons for a month because we could not find the box with the silverware as it wasn't marked. Pairs of shoes were separated one in a box of shoes and its match, alone, at the bottom of a wardrobe box. Watching the pack was like watching frat boys run amok and one of the packers was apparently (and obviously to me) smoking drugs every half an hour outside behind the truck and refused to keep his mask on. Sets of dishes which came from different places (the dining room and the kitchen, say) were packed together with items from other places and so nothing was ever complete in one box. At one point we thought they must have done all this on purpose (it was that ridiculous) but then we realized that meant they would have had to be paying attention to what they were doing which clearly they were not. To add insult to injury no one at the company (nor at Mayflower/United their parent company) is interested in any worthwhile remediation of the situation. Bottom line: go elsewhere. read more

From start to finish, complete debacle of a move. Spending 20+ years in the military and conducting more than 6 long distance moves involving all of our household goods, we've never had more broken and lost things in move then the one executed by this company. We still cannot resolve our damage claim, because we're only permitted under their contract to submit one claim. Unfortunately, it will be months before we're able to get everything opened up and inspected for damage. I have no complaints so far against company unless they don't pay for the damages . My complaint is against the female driver and husband. Whatever you do DO NOT use this company if the driver is going to be the Latino female. She won't hire enough guys to load or unload your furniture and she is in too big hurry to do job right so the results is broken furniture or scratches. Left some of our furniture not put back together and left some with her quilts still covered on my furniture. She is driver from hell. Her attitude stinks. I have moved across country multiple times and never had anything scratched or broken. but this trip with this driver made up for it. She doesn't put parts removed off pieces taped to that piece but into a box therefore results are lost pieces. I don't know what she did to dressers or chests but now out of alignment and drawers don't want to slide easily. Each box was crushed in some manner. She also drives for another company. Dan was horrible, and Jamie, our driver, lost an antique wagon wheel from Carefree, AZ ....along with a dish pack and one other carton of our belongings. Their office staff is incompetent and rude. Because we did not buy the additional insurance coverage, it seems nothing could be done to get all our belongings in our move from Scottsdale, AZ to Plano, TX. The thing I'm most upset about is the rather large and heavy wagon wheel that went a missing. How could anyone not see that and then lose it, or rather steal it????? BUT they sure as hell when to a lot of trouble to get my big 'outdoor pot' and Bass Fiddle, which were not crated to TX. Jamie, the driver, was an absolute jerk to me...".the little wife" (because he was tired from previous move.).... and on destination was as charming as could be to my husband. I am very frustrated with Mayflower moving. I used them in February to move from Mesa to Scottsdale. It was a very large move and the team did a fantastic job moving. They only took 1 hour longer than estimated. Where I am frustrated are the costs that even 2 months later they keep billing me for. Be very careful of your estimate and what you sign for. They keep adding additional costs even after you have paid them and they agree that all is paid for. I don't know how a company that gives you a quote can come back and keep billing for other costs. This is really a shame because I will be moving again in 1 year and would have used them but with all of the incidental, after the fact charges, they will never get my business again! Moved on 12.30.15, permanent scratch on brand new refrigerator, gouges in front door sides from moving furniture in, MISSING presumed STOLEN tool box and power drill in it's case. Unfortunately I did not need these things until after the 90 day claim policy, didn't realize they were stolen, told I was shit out of luck. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This is long, but it's meant to be educational. I worked for Mayflower a long time ago, in the household goods billing dept. at their headquarters, so I understand how it's all billed for and why. The business is federally regulated, so all the things charged for, and how much the rates are, all come from the federal tariffs. The moving company can only compete through offering discounts, which reduce their profit margins [it is a business, after all, not a charity]. So, if you get charged for things you didn't expect, there's a reason for it, and it is best to educate yourself in depth before you sign anything. That's just good common sense for anything in life. Moving across state lines is very complicated from a billing standpoint, which is something most people don't realize. The sheer logistics of getting a huge truck full, with several family's belongings, who happen to all be moving from and to close enough locations, within close enough time frames, to make it profitable [gas prices are only the tip of the iceberg for the expenses incurred by the drivers and don't forget all those other costs involved in running a business], is so mind boggling, I wonder how they even manage that part of it. If the truck doesn't get there when you thought it would, it's not because someone is slacking - there are a million things that can happen to mess up the timing of the process. It's best to go into it with the understanding that it is not an exact science; if they don't meet the dates they promised, you can get compensation, but you need to make sure you understand what the paperwork says about what dates are actually promised, not just the ones that are what you want them to be. Putting the stuff on the truck, from a relatively short distance to your door, moving it from point A to point B, and unloading into your new home, again from a close spot, is what the "transportation" cost covers; that's also what the estimator, driver, and laborers are paid based on, so services beyond that cost extra. There are numerous types of extra charges that may apply, such as "long carries," "stair carries," etc. etc. Most are billed by weight; packing & unpacking is billed by the box size & quantity. Like I said, it's pretty involved. If you don't understand what the line items on the estimate mean, go ahead and ask...there is an explanation for each of them. The estimator who comes to the home where you live can see whether the truck can park close enough, whether there are stairs inside the apt. building you're in, etc., all of which can affect the charges. The place you're moving to is another story - the estimator at origin can't know what might apply there unless the customer tells him/her. Drivers aren't paid by the hour, they're paid by the pound, for most everything involved. If the driver has to carry your stuff up 3 flights of stairs at your new apt., he deserves to get paid for that, but people blame the moving company, not realizing that they are only charging as per the federal regulations. Not reading the fine print is not a very good excuse - we all have a certain measure of responsibility to read what we're agreeing to, before we agree to it, don't we? Sullivan did a great job for me on a small move [items from my father's estate] from AZ to IN, and the price was very comparable to what I'd have paid to rent a truck and drive the stuff back myself. I was very pleased with the packing and loading crew, and my moving coordinator was terrific. The driver who brought the items to IN did an excellent job communicating with me about delivery, and he was able to help us work out a good delivery solution for our home, since the driveway was not accessible to a semi-tractor/trailer unit. I had a very difficult time frame (tight schedule) for a moving company to meet. I interviewed 4 major moving companies, and only Sullivan was able to pick up before I left town on a business trip, and deliver while I was at the new house for only 2 days . I greatly appreciated them striving to work with me. Everyone was very professional every step of the way. And the price quoted was right in the middle of the 3 quotes I received (apparently the 4th didn't bother to send me one because the salesperson knew he couldn't meet my schedule.) Stay away from this company. Worst experience ever. Still having nightmares 3 months later. I personally did my own packing and discovered that they had the right to open my boxes and insert other items into them. Unethical. When I complained to the company was told the driver was given a talking to and retrained. I feel violated and they should not be in business. There should be a law to protect consumers against such an invasion of privacy. SHAME ON SULLIVAN MAYFLOWER. Shame on Mayflower for allowing this to happen. read more
