If you're looking for the very best, truly authentic Turkish food, you absolutely must try the food at Sumak Restaurant, the food is so good! This was our first time here and Ahmet, our server, took great care of us. We weren't familiar with all the dishes on the menu, but he took his time going over the menu with us, made great recommendations on dishes to try, and just provided us with great service overall. We started our lunch with two glasses of red wine from Turkey and the wine was truly spectacular. It was light yet full of aroma and flavor and went perfectly with our meal. Highly recommend trying a glass of wine you can't find anywhere else on a menu. We ordered the Turkish Pozza from the lunch menu to share and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. It was truly one of a kind and I'll be back just for this dish, it was so good. Super thin, perfectly crispy pizza, topped with finely ground beef, onions, tomatoes, and parsley it was so full of flavor it was absolutely delicious. For lunch, the pizza was only $10 too, what a great price for a truly special dish. All I have to say is, try it, you won't be disappointed! For our meal we ordered the chicken shish kabob served with rice and it was also very good. The chicken was a little charred which I really liked. We also ordered a side of asparagus to go with our meal and it was delicious as well. For desert I usually stick to Baklava since it's one of my favorites but our server really recommended the homemade Kunefe and the Turkish Mariah Ice Cream and told us we had to try them together so we decided to try something different. The deserts came out topped with a little bit of pistachio and they were also one of the best deserts I've ever had. They should be served together on the menu because our server was right they went perfectly together. The ice cream was special in of itself, I've never had ice cream made from goat milk, but it was so good, you have to try it as well. It had a thicker, more stretchy texture to it, than regular ice cream and wasn't as sweet which I loved and it was just absolutely amazing. We didn't even know it was made from goat milk till after we tried it, I'm so happy we did. The Kunefe was really good as well, it arrived warm, and the crispy shredded phyllo dough was coated in sweet syrup and went perfectly with the ice cream. Perfectly balancing each other. Highly recommend. Overall, I was really impressed with the food at Sumak Restaurant and I look forward to returning another day soon! read more

Stopped by Sumak in Normandy again and had a pretty ok overall experience. Service was alright--nothing over the top but it got the job done. We started with the octopus, which unfortunately fell a little flat and was pretty bland compared to what I expected. The burger was surprisingly solid though, juicy and well cooked. But the real highlight of the meal was the lamb kebab. It was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly, and the sumac onions with the rice on the side brought everything together. That dish alone is worth coming back for. read more

They serve respectable Turkish food here and the owner is very friendly, greets the guests. We really enjoyed the two zeytinyağlı dishes (smoked eggplant and red pepper, and artichokes) and the lahmacun. I would go back to try their white cheese and melon when the weather gets warmer. read more

We came here for happy hour on Saturday and really enjoyed the experience. I was very impressed with the interior! Despite living within walking distance for nearly 15 years, I never made it to Rouge, which I hear was very romantic and beautiful inside. I don't know what kinds of changes Sumak has made, but it's really lovely. They have an outdoor area as well, but we stayed inside. If you are there for happy hour and / or without a reservation, they have a small section of the restaurant reserved so they can keep the rest of the tables for reservations. The happy hour menu is fairly robust; we had a group of 4 and I think we sampled nearly everything. Standout for me was the branzino, which was cooked absolutely perfectly and full of flavor! The calamari was also excellent. I saw that someone else mentioned that the bread was meh, but I thought the bread that came with the dips was delightful! The cocktails are expertly crafted and the wine selection is also robust. We sampled a Turkish red, which was similar to a pinot noir, and really liked it! I found the service to be very good - it was a bit crowded in the restaurant since it was Saturday night, but we didn't feel rushed or neglected just because we were "happy hour-ing". I looked at the regular menu and thought it was pretty pricey. Also, if you do not eat meat, plan on ordering several of the mezze, because the "mains" that come off the grill are exclusively meat based. Part of the fun of this type of cuisine is sampling several items, and the "Turkish table" is a notoriously delicious way of doing so. All in all, it was a great experience! read more

Saw the feature on TV so I decided to try this out on a Sunday evening. The restaurant has beautiful interior. It has a classic, elegant feel with the chandeliers, great lighting, and relaxing music. The plates and cups were beautiful. Our server Nico explained the menu and answered our questions. Attentive, he gave great recommendations and guided us on how the food was eaten, putting the toppings on the lahmacun. The freshly baked bread was very good. Lahmacun is like a Turkish pizza served with onions, tomatoes, cilantro. It's big and can be shared between two people. Cleaver meatball and chicken shish were so delicious. Served with orzo pilaf that was tasty, the meats were very tender and flavorful! Delicious. Turkish coffee was very good. What a perfect way to end with the kunefe. Again, it was very good - the right amount of sweetness and the different textures of the crunchy top and the soft cheese at the middle. Delicious food. Great service. Elegant interiors. Whether or not you've had Turkish food before, Sumak is a must try if you are in Miami. Would highly recommend! Deserves more than 5/5! read more

The food and atmosphere was fine. But after we paid our bill, because it was pouring we decided to stay for one more drink. He charged us $86.36 for 2 vodka sodas. When he gave us the bill, I argued and he claimed that it was because we ordered doubles and it was "premium vodka". It was Tito's! He charged us the equivalent of 4 handles of vodka for 2 drinks! Not even a south beach club charges over $40/drink!! He said he would take care of it, gave us a new receipt for around $65, still ridiculous, but when the charge came through on the credit card a few days later, it still said $86.36! We live less than 3 miles away, he lost potential neighborhood customers! Shame on this business for trying to take advantage! read more

We ate here before a comedy show on Miami Beach. There were six of us for dinner, and after everyone else left, my friend and I stayed for one drink each. What happened next was unacceptable. The manager attempted to charge us more for two drinks than our entire dinner bill for six people. When we questioned the pricing, pointing out that it was far above what is typical on Miami Beach, he refused to address our concerns in any reasonable way. We ultimately signed an invoice for a reduced amount--still outrageously overpriced--because it was clear there was no intention of treating us fairly. To make matters worse, when the charge finally posted to my credit card, it exceeded the amount we had agreed to and came to more than $86 for two drinks. As a local who lives just down the street, I find this business practice simply criminal and fraudulent. He knew what he was doing with the goal of taking advantage of and disrespected us as a customers. I would strongly encourage others (especially women) to carefully review their bills and think twice before supporting an establishment that appears willing to take advantage of women patrons. read more

Great middle eastern Turkish meal in authentic dish ware. There was a large party the evening we came so we were seated in back courtyard near fireplace. It was such a nice evening so it was perfect weather. The portions were large and the presentation was beautiful. I noticed Sumak when driving to my happy place in North Beach a few days back. It's located right on 71 Street and near a couple of other restaurants, including one named for the best NHL Goalie ever (Bob!) There's a parking lot behind it as well as nearby. The dining room is well lit and they have a good spread of tables. Service was pretty attentive, including with my dessert recommendation and the tableside service cutting the nicely sized baklava dessert. As far as savory, both the lentil soup and muhammara (with real pieces of pomegranate) were delicious. I also liked the chicken shish kabob. The marinated onions and roasted red peppers gave it a yummy boost of flavor. The soundtrack is downtempo hiphop / jazzy, which while I was there it was interrupted by 50's "It's Your Birthday" for a lively celebration at a nearby table. read more

They have a great Happy Hour. Our waitress was actually from Turkey so we got her to read our coffee grounds. She was actually spot on! The place had a comfortable feel to it, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their selves. The Happy Hour prices really make it possible to try different dishes. I sat I the bar and was quickly welcomed and given a drink menu. I went with the hibiscus in Miami $14 and the add tip automatically on the bill. My drink was absolutely perfect and tasted great. We walked in and, for a brief, shining moment, it felt like we'd made a good choice. The table was ready, we were seated promptly--everything hinted at competence. Maybe even care. That illusion didn't last long. Then came the void. Twenty-five minutes of it. No greeting, no drink order, no acknowledgment that we were, in fact, human beings sitting at a table. I had to flag someone down just to get things moving. When the waitress finally appeared, I ordered cocktails and water, only to notice the table was set for one person. One plate, one set of utensils- weird for a table for 2. What followed was a slow unraveling. Another long stretch of waiting, punctuated by the server returning 20 minutes later to inform us that Tito's vodka wasn't available. Information that could--and should--have been delivered instantly. Meanwhile, still no water. No drinks. Just time passing. In total, about 40 minutes to get something as basic as a cocktail. That's not a delay--it's neglect. The food, when it finally arrived, told its own confused story. The first course was genuinely good. The eggplant spread, the salad, the pickles--bright, balanced, clearly handled with some level of care. And then it all fell apart. The octopus was lifeless--mushy, devoid of character, the kind of dish that suggests someone stopped paying attention halfway through. The chicken was worse: dry, tired, and unmistakably not fresh. It had that telltale quality of something cooked long ago and left to linger under a heat lamp, waiting for a moment that came too late. Chicken thighs should be forgiving, flavorful--this was neither. The rice, oddly enough, was excellent. A small, solitary win in an otherwise uneven meal. In the end, the service was the real failure here--slow, inattentive, and indifferent. The food hovers around a 6 out of 10, but it's inconsistent in a way that suggests a kitchen going through the motions rather than actually cooking. There's potential here, sure. What a cute neighborhood spot. I was walking by to go have sushi and ended up seeing the menu outside and decided to come here. It's new in the neighborhood. Located off 79th in Normandy Isles. Every detailed was well thought. The decor makes you feel like you are in Turkey. The cute cups and dish-ware are beautiful with details! I tried the happy hour menu at the bar. We stumbled upon this spot by luck. As someone who lived in Turkey (Türkiye) for a bit, I can attest that the food is authentic, which means amazing. We tried multiple appetizers and the beef skewers as mains. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The service was sincere and friendly. Everyone did everything they could to accommodate needs and requests. The drinks and cocktails were amazing.
