Where do I begin as I experienced dinner and brunch? My first dalience was dinner where I did not go with the popular lobster roll. I opted for a few appetizers to create a dining experience. Those who know me are aware of my motto, "life is all about the experiences". #Ceasethemoment I had mussels Fra diablo and my only concern was that additional pieces of toast are required to indulge that rich in flavor sauce which will clear any congestion. The dish is served with only two pieces. Fries calamari with peppers and garlic were standard deliciousness I am acclimated to indulging. Lobster wonton was my taste of lobster and they did not disappoint as they were filled to please. By checking in, I was afforded the chowder fries gratis and they were different and good. I had the experience of the Buddha Passion served in a Buddha. Sis I rub his belly for luck? Brunch They do serve coffee as I was not up for the mimosa. I ordered the crab cake Benedict as I wanted the the breakfast lobster dish =( as it is no longer on the menu. Heads up; the menu is printed daily. I opted to add for substance the waffle with fresh berries. There was a small fruit bowl served of watermelon pieces,green grape and melon. I only ate the grape as I have never been a watermelon nor melon fan. As a regular scrambled, omlett and frittata fan; the poached egg had me engaged in each bite. Came here after Saturday afternoon's trip to Fenway Park. The interior is really nice and is reminiscence of a New England shack with its wooden interior and feel. Even though the restaurant was swarmed with people, the staff took care of our needs and we were far from disappointed. We started with the grilled calamari appetizer. While it was very delicious, me and my father were only able to have two pieces each plus one falafel ball due to its small size. The clambakes were expensive but it's simply a treat in itself. Ours came with a 1-1/2 lb. lobster, clams, mussels, potatoes, corn, a hard boiled egg and chorizo. The lobster was succulent and juicy and oh so god. Everything else in the clambake was also tasty and satisfying especially the sausage and the corn. They even provide bibs, wet naps and crackers to help break down the clambake. The sautéed green beans were a nice touch as well. Boston is famous for its seafood, so why not lobsters? This was one of the first meals we had upon arriving Boston, although delicious, it was quite pricey. We ordered two pounds of the Jasper famous pan roasted lobster, a side of fries and two drinks - the bill came out to be $130 with tip and tax. Yes, the lobster was definitely delicious and the sauce was great for the fries to be dipped in, but it did not keep the both of us full. Happened into Summer Shack as it was close to my hotel. I couldn't have felt more welcome. To my good fortune I came in on a Tuesday night, oysters are a dollar apiece. The bartender, Jorge, suggested I try all seven varieties they have that night. They were all delicious . For dinner he also recommended the "Moqueca" Brazillian Fisherman's Stew. The Olive Garden of Bostonian sea food, the Bucca di Beppo of things crustacean. Such is the vibe, the food, the general spirit of the Summer Shack. A days crawl (as the lobster crawls) from the Boston Convention center, this seems like a place where out-of-town business visitors are often invited to "socialize" by their local hosts. On such an occasion I found myself here perusing the menu of things that feed on ocean bottoms. We were a party of many, more than I could count on my fingers and toes. We were served swiftly, with the majority choosing the lobster roll, served with chips/not fries. A surf-n-turf kind of appetizer platter with ambiguous fried meats saw us through till the sandwiches arrived. The meats were soft and fresh, the lobster and prawns buttery and sweet. A salsa like heat was much needed but seemed not to be missed by others on the table. Perhaps I am not built for such mono-flavored meals. Fries would have gone a long way with the sandwich. Dessert was a very sweet brownie with sweeter ice cream. Overall the place ain't bad, it ain't special, its as Yelp so eloquently points out "A-Ok". read more

But this visit wasn't good... the place is tired looking inside, dark and not very welcoming. Our server was ok - asked her for suggestions and she didn't really offer any. We opted for a shrimp entree and everything was super salty and had way too much butter even though I specifically asked for "light butter". Drinks were expensive for what you got. We got claustrophobic we decided to go on a road trip and found ourselves in Cambridge, Mass. It was a leaf peeking kinda trip and en route home, we went looking for a good clam chowder and lobster roll sandwich which are the trade mark of this legendary place. So overall a really good experience. There was a medical emergency at another table and the staff handled it calmly and with ease. This was a great find. We came here for Restaurant Week. We had made a reservation online but they seated us about 45 minutes after the reservation time. We were so close to leaving because we had a hungry, unhappy infant with us and it was past his dinner time. Luckily, they finally seated us. The food was delicious. We tried the food from the Restaurant Week menu and also ordered a few oysters. The server was helpful and helped us with our infant at the time. He wasn't super comfortable drinking from cups by himself but she was happy to help pick up his cup or replace the straw whenever he struggled with the cup and dropped it. She was so cheerful and friendly with him. She made our night out with the baby so much less stressful! The manager came by after we got our food and chatted with us for a bit. He was so nice, apologizing for our wait time and encouraging us to check out their Cambridge location. So thoughtful! It is a nice little walk from the hotel, more of a... as I would say in my old age...yuppie type vibe. I was in capri pants and a blouse and felt underdressed, but oh well. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Prices, a little on the higher side but reasonable and fair, but that was expected right when I got in the door. We are very disappointed with Jorge Alfaro and his utter lack of customer service, crisis management skills and empathy. Our friend had notified the staff that she was allergic to shellfish. She ordered the fish taco and within minutes of taking the first bite ended up in the bathroom having a severe shell fish allergic reaction. Epi Pen applied ..... crisis averted ..... however after a kitchen investigation Jorge informs us that the restaurant did everything correctly. Really?!?!? All physical evidence to the contrary.
