Summer Shack is our go to restaurant when we are at Mohegan Sun Casino. If you only try one thing, make it the warm cornbread with molasses butter. I've fallen in love with this and always order it whether I'm eating at the restaurant, or the quick serve location in the food court. Incredible! Are you a fan of fish and chips? If so, you will love the fish and chips at Summer Shack. Just had it this past weekend and it was some of the best I've ever had. Fresh haddock, battered and deep fried. The edges of the batter were so crispy and delicious. My husband had the seared tuna, which he said was very good. My husband and I finally got back to Summer Shack at Mohegan Sun. We always enjoyed the food and were expecting a great dinner. We were so disappointed with our meal. We ordered a fisherman's platter, There were small fish nuggets, one lonely scallop and a few overcooked shrimp. We also ordered whole belly clams and received small clams and clam pieces. We have been to the Summer Shack a couple times now and overall, we have always had a good dining experience with them. The food and drinks are good and the service is usually pretty good too. They always have some good specials listed up on the chalkboard, so be sure to check that out. On our last visit, I had the baked shrimp and it was really good. It was stuffed with a crab and lobster stuffing with a lobster sauce. My husband had one of the specials... pan seared tuna, and he said that was good too. I've been going Summer Shack since the day it opened but they've really slipped. I should say the wait staff was quick and helpful and the text via the reservation was perfectly handled. The problem is the food and I am going to focus specifically on the large Clam Belly platter. I received 8 clam bellies for a larger plater which cost 30.00 this was just an outright rip-off. I've seen things slowly decline since I've been going since day one and they just seem to think people will continue to come. They don't even bother to put any specials on the blackboard which kind of made it interesting it wouldn't be so bad but they don't even bother to tell or offer specials. They've stopped serving bread with dinner and this is the case even if you ask for it and the price for the clam bake is now 50.00. Ordered the Lobster mac and cheese for $36. Regular restaurant wait time. Friendly servers and hostesses. The mac was decent. Plenty of lobster that was very good. The Mac itself just didn't blow me away. They use shells (like mini stuffed shell kind of pasta) that I feel didn't do a good job in the dish as a cavatappi would. Cheese sauce was kind of bland and runny. Breadcrumbs on top we're good. I have previously ordered the fish sandwich that is usually excellent and will be getting that again next time. NOT the best experience here today. I spoke to the original server about my lobster roll.....and he (Moe) didn't even say anything about it to the manager. About half of the lobster meat was SUPER, SUPER chewy. As an experienced restaurant worker in both BOH and FOH....Im almost positive that the lobster was cooked at least 2 days ago. However, some of the best house chips in the area!!!! Really shocked about that he didn't even speak to the manager about the lobster roll though (especially at $28!!!) because there was only ~5 customers here! Usually when a guest is ready to close out, THAT is when the "best customer service" happens so they can pretend to be good and increase their tip. Unfortunately, the best service was when I first sat down......although I did feel rushed to order a drink. In their "defense" it was during a shift turnover so that may have accounted for SOME of the service issues; nonetheless, still should NEVER happen as such. I've been coming here almost every time I'm in the casino, but will I return here, not without something being done. Over the last 5-7 years, I've noticed a significant decrease in food AND service. I came here as, ok let me be super honest, a third option, the celebtate my birthday as the first 2 places we tried weren't open yet. I was pleasently surprised at everything. It has been years since i have gone here and thw past time I was here I wasn't too thrilled so I was skeptical to say the least. First of all, our server was AWESOME!! We had a party of 5 people, one being out 9 year old daugter and he made he feel like a queen; treated her like a little adult, which of course she ate right up! Our food on the whole was cooked perfectly, except of course the fish chowder which was more like salt chowder. My mom and I both ordered it we were both so turned off by it. He was so gracious, and didn't even miss a beat, even said something like, 'oh I should have warned you about that.' Took them both off the bill and we ordered something else which came out lickety split. He took note it was my birthday and brought out, free of charge, a cute little ice cream sundae complete with a candle! I couldn't have been more suprised! When we go to Mohegan, we never miss stopping in on 'the Shack. Never had a bad meal there. Once shared a 3 lb lobster as an appetizer. G'o ahead - treat yourself. If you want the best hot lobster roll south of Maine, go to the Shack Express (downstairs across from Pepe's). They give you a little cup of butter and you can put as much as you want. Two words: WOOD-GRILLED LOBSTER. I'll count the hyphen as one word. My parents' favorite place at Mohegan. Their lobsters are 100% fresh, as you can see they have a mini marina in the front. What more could you want other than a lobster bib, a can for your shells and a 2 lb lobster wood grilled to perfection. Summer Shack knows how to make a lobster, whether its a clam bake or an roasted (the other two options). However, I would highly recommend you pay a little more for the wood-grilled option.The shell tips of the lobster are a little singed, but the meat is perfectly stuffed and ready to be plucked off the shell for a juicy good time. To be honest, I haven't tried anything else here besides some oysters and soups, but I already know my tunnel vision has picked the best entree I could possibly get. That's not to say Summer Shack doesn't have an extensive menu, they do and they have daily specials with all types of seafoods. So definitely take the menu out on a date, but in the end be sure to marry the wood-grilled lobster. The lobster comes in 1lb, 1.5lb and 2lb varieties and they all depend on the price and season. The 2lb wood-grilled runs about $48-$50. They also have a bar for you to just sit back and relax and the spacing is terrific for larger families/groups. read more

I wanted to like summer Shack a lot more than I did. I have never been to the one in Cambridge but I expected top quality seafood with a little innovation. There isn't much here exciting and if it is you can bet it ain't that great. I ordered the crabcakes which were purported to have no breading but were in fact almost ALL breading. They came with an inedible mound of undercooked beans. I sent that back. I also had the lobster potstickers which were ok but not mind blowing. The star here is really any seafood that you just get plain. The shrimp cocktail and the crab were both nice. But that is easy, that should be a given. My sister is on a special diet and they happily made concessions for how she wanted her food. Although it was a little weird how we kept telling the waiter she couldn't have oil at all and he would suggest things that didn't fit the bill. We had a party of six and a few of us wanted to eat healthier so we decided on seafood instead of going to Michael Jordan's Steak House for steaks. Came in, first impression was it looked nice. Sat down at a table in the corner and it was a good, comfortable setting. We were seated and given our menus. We sat there for maybe 15 minutes before someone came and asked us if we wanted any refreshments. 15 minutes??? Really? We of course started off with appetizers and drinks. After we ordered them, we got the drinks semi quickly but the appetizers took forever to be prepped. We got the mussels, cherry stones, calamari and oysters. The garlic mussels were disgusting. The calamari was too heavy on the grease and oily... but it was good. The prices were NOT parallel to the quality and taste of the food. More than anything, the service was quite slow and lackluster. For such an expensive restaurant, I expected bigger servings and better tasting food. We didn't get much (appetizers only) and it came close to 100 dollars. I left feeling very unsatisfied and elected to go to Michael Jordan's Steakhouse instead. read more

We stumbled across Summer Shack and checked out the menu from the outside. Overall a small menu, but specific to mostly seafood. We were very promptly greeted by a very cheerful hostess with a huge smile. She escorted us to the table and Carl was our waiter. Boy did he make the experience great. He was a great waiter, suggested and helped us with food choices and explained and answered all questions about the menu we had, since we had all never been there before. He was HYSTERICAL and made our entire experience better. I checked in on YELP and got a free cup of clam chowder to which Carl replied "you are one of THOSE people!" ha! I died laughing, I can take a joke all in good fun. The clam was just mediocre, thank god it was free. I like chowder a little thicker in consistency, but that is my own thing- however it was loaded with clams. Not the worst chowder ever but not the best either. We also got the chili wings, those were decent and very juicy not well done which was great. My husband got the hot lobster roll ( I do not eat seafood ) and he said it was good, the portion was a little small for $24 but he did like it. The cheeseburger I ordered was DELISH. VERY juicy and NOT overcooked, which in my eyes is great. I hate ordering medium rare, but when you get it the burger is MW and barely edible. I did order the cheeseburger which said "cheddar cheese" but I am sure I did not get cheddar (see picture) who cares- it was good and I don't send food back. I would return, just based on the service alone. Carl was a good waiter and the food was decent. We each had the rum punch which was $12 each, but when we sat at our table and ordered 2 more rum punch they were $15 each......the food was good. They brought rolls and corn bread with whipped butter. I appreciate the whipped butter, rather than a hard lump of cold butter that won't spread so that's a plus. Great restaurant! I love stopping in here when I'm at Mohegan Sun! I had lots of oysters as an appetizer and I must say that they rival some of the best that I've had even at Martha's Vineyard! The oysters were a bit pricey at $2.75 each but it is in the casino so it wasn't totally unexpected. The atmosphere is laid back, casual, and fun! They were playing Peter Gabriel's music while I was dining which was great since I was going to the concert that night! For my entree, I had fried whole belly clams and they were in my top 5 for fried clams for sure! They were succulent and tender and flavorful. However, the shrimp cocktail was inedible-so dry, seemed like it was very old. And the clam chowder was mediocre , at best, with rubbery clams and potatoes that were hard. I had a special. Mahi Mahi BLT with chips. It was really, just okay. My husband had scrod and again, the fish just didn't seem to be that fresh. We won't be back. read more

We both had a cup of clam chowder to start, which we were both surprised at. It looked more like a bowl portion than a cup.
