Stopped in on a Friday afternoon for a quick pick me up. Small line, only about 4 minutes to get my coffee. Some set up going on outside for a market type event but otherwise pretty quiet. Only one person sitting inside downstairs, likely because it was so beautiful outside. My espresso was a bit bland and not too hot. I asked for double (twice) but was charged for and received a single. Lemon berry scone was a bit undersized, but this was acknowledged by the cashier and he gave me a small discount without asking. Summit Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops in Davidson, with a great location near several stores and Farmers Market. The baristas are kind, and the cafe has a cool decorative vibe! There are small tables lined against the wall so you can sit, drink, eat, and visit. It gives the feeling of community. There are several larger tables outside for working or meeting with a big group. I usually see a lot of families out there as it's a great space for the children to run around. The coffee is great. I like their lattes, but this past visit I enjoyed a black coffee. It was smooth and bold with a splash of oat milk. So good! We drive an hour just to experience this kind of coffee shop vibe, service, and lattes! Can't wait for my next cup of coffee at Summit! read more

Wonderful coffee shop along Main Street. I arrived around 9am on a Thursday and saw many people walk in and out quickly and then found out why -- mobile ordering! They have a small pastry selection of yummy looking scones and seasonal drink menu along with the usual coffee selection. I opted for a matcha latte with vanilla syrup. There is seating on the first floor and I hear there's a second floor but it doesn't have AC, however the back patio area is wonderful so we sat out there. Umm... don't understand what all the hype about this place is. It's an absolute mess! Waited 25 minutes for my order of one simple cappuccino! Barristas looked flustered, working both the orders for a long line of walk-ins and online orders. Yes, same people! Summit coffee has exploded in growth in the Charlotte area. I am so glad their quality has not changed. They have really great coffee, I think roasting their own beans is probably why. Visited there yesterday. Coffee is a little pricey but it is what it is. Ordered a coffe and one for my wife, along with an egg and cheese sandwich. They took my name for the order. I went to the end of the counter and waited for my sandwich. Two of the girls behind the counter stood around talking nonchalantly. I never saw anyone preparing my sandwich. By the way, I think I paid about $6.50 or so for it. After several minutes I interrupted the girls conversation and asked about my sandwich. They had to ask someone else. Turns out NO ONE had bothered putting it in the oven. It took a couple more minutes. I was not very happy. After all of that, the sandwich tasted terrible. read more

Neat coffee shop in downtown Davidson. The downstairs area by the register is a little cramped and if you're thinking that they're too full for you, do not despair. There is a very large upstairs seating area with tables and a sofa with room for at least 40 people. My cortado this morning was excellent. I'm really enjoying these having switched from latte cappuccino. The difference is that the milk is merely steamed to heat it but not foamed. Free wifi, a bunch of power outlets and great coffee. Came here on a Sunday morning after church. Easy parking, and plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. Cute building along the Main Street of Davidson college. Staff was friendly, but not very engaging. If you want you're coffee in a for-here mug, make sure to ask for it, default seems to be to-go mug. They used their Kilimanjaro for espresso, which to me tasted smooth with a nutty fruit, medium body. I bought a bag of Alpine beans, love they have roasted dates on their bags! Never will my family step foot in her again. There were NO mask mandates in Charlotte at all, the pandemic was over and the coffee barista told my husband to put on a mask. Nobody wears masks people!!! It's been over! He let the kid know but the kid walked away and refused to serve him. He literally just walked away. Who does that? Who tries to force masks when that's been over for a long time?! They lost faithful customers. We'll never go there again. FYI, we emailed the owners and crickets. No response at all. The family and I wound up in the Davidson area on an impromptu vacation when we left Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma's expected arrival. The friends we stayed with suggested, when they found out about my love of local coffee shops, that I check out Summit Coffee. I made sure to do just that. On my first visit to Summit, yes I went twice during our four days there, I turned my back on my normal coffee drink. Instead I was intrigued by a special drink Summit was offering that mixed lemonade with coffee. It sound absolutely hideous but, like a rubbernecker or a train wreck, it sound so hideous that I just had to try it. It took a few sips before I realized just how terrible of a decision that was. This drink was not good. It wasn't the coffee's fault. It probably also wasn't the lemonade's fault. Those two drinks just shouldn't be partnered up. Like a terrible marriage, they do nothing but bring each other down. I couldn't leave Davidson with that bad taste in my mouth. I mean the friends we stayed with said this was the best coffee they've ever had and I couldn't believe that their tastebuds would be so far off. So before heading out of town I drove back to Summit and took a coffee to go. This time I was not swayed by trainwrecks or out of the ordinary drinks, I went with my tried and true drink. The iced latte with vegan milk was absolutely on point. It wasn't overly saturated with sweetness, I could still get a sense of the great Summit coffee taste. I loved the taste. There wasn't the lingering bitterness in their coffee that I dislike about some of those chain coffee shops. So, in short, go to Summit and get your drink of choice and you'll most likely be pleased. If you stray outside of that, watch out, you could find yourself face-to-face with something truly scary. read more

Many young parents enjoy their coffee drinks while their kids play on the swing set. Being a coffee nerd, I made our friends that we were visiting drive us to Summit. I'm always really excited to check out coffee shops, especially ones who serve their own roasted coffee, but sadly, we were underwhelmed by the experience. The space is decent. Very fitting of their concept. There's a really nice outdoor area in the back, and there was live music back there when we stopped in. The inside has a bit of that second wave coffee vibe, which is totally fine (they were established in '98, after all). It was just a bit dark, and a little messy, overall. Perhaps the mess was post-rush. No idea. The staff was friendly, but not super excited about talking coffee or answering questions, so we sort of just ordered. I will preface this by saying that I worked in coffee for a while, and still spend a lot of time with coffee, so I'm extra picky when it comes to the craft/preparation. The lack of passion from the staff in that moment translated into the cup. I ordered a cortado, which was prepared pretty well from a temperature standpoint, but texture was a bit too dry, and the espresso tasted really under-extracted. Sour bomb. If we hadn't been in a hurry, I might've tried another shot just to compare, but it'll have to wait. My wife really didn't enjoy her cold brew. I enjoyed it more than my cortado, but it was a standard cold brew, if a little too dark for my own preference. Overall, my experience was shaping up to be really disappointing, but I picked up some bags of beans to brew at home, and they were solid! Especially the Finca La Toma, Colombian, brewed as an espresso. Perhaps I wasn't fan their Kilimanjaro espresso in the shop, but after trying their other roasts, I can chalk my in-shop disappointment up to a poorly-pulled shot. Bad shots happen and slip through, so I can't hold it against their staff too much. I simply had high expectations. Hopefully next time we're in town and stop into Summit (and I would give it another try, knowing they're roasting tasty beans), we'll have a better experience. read more

This is such a delightful little coffee shop! It's got a great small town feel because it's situated right off Main Street in Davidson. The inside is cozy and homey with wood interiors and a small glass case of local deserts. Don't let the downstairs fool you. It's got limited seating, but upstairs there's some nice tables to study at and outside they have benches and even a stage. I personally love their coffee. I'm a sucker for a good matcha latte, and they make an exceptionally tasty one! I think their seasonal menu is eclectic and delicious as well. I once had a good lavender latte here. The staff is always friendly, and the wait times aren't too bad either. While this is a stones throw from Davidson College, I don't feel out of place here. There's a good mix of crowd from young adults, families, and college kids. They have a good mix of events including Monday night bingo and open mics. This is a place where you can come for the coffee and stay for the great sense of community and home! read more
