I visited this restaurant for the first time and made a dinner reservation for my mom's birthday. Every Wednesday, they have discounts on their roasted prime rib cuts. For example, the cottage cut (seven ounces) costs $39 instead of $59 on Wednesdays. Despite the pricy menu items, the food quality, service, and ambience make for an excellent opportunity to celebrate a special occasion. Firstly, we ordered the seaside sampler for four as an appetizer. This included Chesapeake Bay-style crab cakes, chilled Mexican prawns, and ahi sashimi. I enjoyed the ahi sashimi the most as the large and fresh slices had a nice sear with a savory seasoning on the edges. The crab cakes tasted great and filling with a dill horseradish aioli as the menu listed. While I didn't try the prawns, my mom enjoyed those the most as they had a slightly sweet flavor. I did enjoy the cocktail sauce. Secondly, I ordered the cottage cut, which included seven ounces of roasted prime rib, creamed corn au gratin, creamed spinach, and a Yorkshire popover. The cut tasted lovely at medium rare as it had a soft texture and good balance of meat and fat. I appreciated that my mom got an especially thick cut of prime rib. Seven ounces feels just right for me given that the entree includes other sides. The creamed corn au gratin tasted a little sweet without an overwhelming flavor. I liked how the creamed spinach had a similar taste. A Yorkshire popover has an airy texture with a buttery and eggy taste. Au jus and horseradish butter elevated the prime rib. Thirdly, we had an English trifle for dessert. The menu says that the trifle consists of cake layers soaked with rum and brandy, including English custard, strawberries, Chantilly cream, and caramelized sliced almonds. It had a uniquely sweet flavor due to the soaking, and the almonds provided some crunch. I found the dessert tasty. I found the staff polite, friendly, and professional. Our server disclosed the discounts on their prime rib cuts and listed their prices. She also mentioned other featured entrees in detail. The staff also consistently refilled my water glass. We also had the opportunity to ask another staff member for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette for our baked bread. He came back and made a little small talk, fondly reminiscing how his former restaurant would serve the same sauces with their bread. My mom also got a birthday card with a printed message and signatures from the staff. The restaurant provided a simply elegant ambience. While entering the indoor seating area, we passed an exhibition kitchen and table displaying various desserts. Customers generally wore semi-formal clothing, and the restaurant recommends business-casual attire. A pianist played various songs and tunes to make for a fancy yet calm atmosphere. I especially enjoyed how the pianist played "Clair de lune." It felt nice to experience a rare moment of hearing classical music played inside a restaurant. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a mediocre experience. Summit House is located on a hill with fantastic views of Orange County. Parking was available both valet as well as self-park. Dining seemed to be available in the dining room or in private rooms. The entire experience felt like "old money." It appeared that many diners were there for a special occasion. Started off with the crab cakes which didn't have much crab...bummer. It was more like breading with a little bit of crab. It didn't taste like crab cake either. The scallops appetizer was also lacklustre as the bacon had some heavy baking soda aftertaste?!? The mushroom appetizer was different. Highlights from the meal included the dry aged prime ribeye which had a fantastic char, fantastic marbling, and cooked to a perfect medium rare! Portions were gigantic and perfect for sharing! The chilean sea bass entree was also gigantic and really nicely executed with super flakey sea bass. The bone marrow mac and cheese was very rich and came out as a gigantic portion, perfect for sharing. Our waitress throughout the evening was fantastic. Service is slow which is to be expected at a high-end steakhouse. Portobello mushroom appetizer: delicious and came sauced with a square of polenta. Our ribeye and prime rib cottage was mediocre and lacked flavor. My boyfriend thought his ribeye tasted like any ole' backyard bbq. I disagreed; my ribeye tastes better. I appreciate my waitress asking about the temperature of my prime rib though because the first piece was waaay too cool for me. Complementary bread: HOT! be careful. I accidentally burned my finger! Creamed spinach: mediocre. Creamed corn: delicious. Dutch oven roll: im not a fan of these so it tasted like any other Dutch ovens I have tasted. My guavarita mocktail was too sweet for me. I DNF it. I gave Summit House 5 stars a long time ago, and I'm sad to lower it. The atmosphere is still one of the best around -- beautiful interior, city lights at night, live piano. For ambiance alone, few places compare. But the food hasn't kept up, and after several recent visits I can't ignore it. We love fresh seafood and there's none on the menu. The risotto is overwhelmed by pesto, the salmon is poorly prepared, and the entrées taste intense and over-processed rather than fresh. What's most frustrating is that the menu never changes -- it's been the same for years. We keep coming for the room and leaving disappointed by the plate. I hope they refresh the menu with fresh, simply-prepared dishes, because the setting deserves food to match. Until then, I'd come for a drink and the view more than the meal. read more

Self parking is quite limited near the restaurant and extremely tight. There is an additional lot at the bottom of the hill but doesn't seem like there is a stairwell/walkway up and you will need to hug the curb walking up the hill. Your best bet is free valet, with tip of course. French Onion Soup -soo good. Gruyere was plenty and perfectly melted. Hokkaido Scallops -scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and silky. Pecans in the sauce added just the right amount of texture. We dipped out commentary sourdough into the sauce and it was perfection. Bone Marrow Mac n' Cheese -really cheesy but not overpowering, paired well with the decadent bone marrow. However, it was a bit heavy that we ended up taking the rest to-go. Summit House Cut (10 oz Prime Rib)- we ordered all around medium and our server made sure it was perfect before setting it down. She was understanding and willing to bring it back if the wellness wasn't to our desire. Tender and as expected however, we did end up asking for more au jus as it wasn't enough. Sides that came with Prime Rib weren't my favorite but they were decent. Creamed spinach not much flavor, liked the creamed corn better. Yorkshire popover was not that great, a bit too crisp on the outside that it seemed dried. Our table asked for au jus poured overtop and it helped a bit but still quite dry. Summit House is the best! My wife and I love coming here for Prime Rib Wednesdays, where the prime rib dinners are marked down. As of 2026, the Cottage Cut is discounted to like ~$40, when normally it's around $59. The larger cuts, the Summit and Castle Cuts, receive less of a discount. Each prime rib meal comes with creamed corn, creamed spinach, and Yorkshire pudding. Pro tip: You can ask for a second helping of creamed corn. (In theory it's unlimited, but we've never dared to ask for more than one extra serving.) Shout out to their table-side sourdough bread loaf, too. It's warm and chewy on the inside, crusty on the outside. The butter they serve with it is always the perfect spreadable temperature. I always devour a slice or two, and save an extra one to mop up all the meat juices at the end of the meal! Service is always excellent and unpretentious. Even though we almost always come on the "discount day," the staff makes sure you're well taken care of, judgement-free! If you mention you're here to celebrate a special occasion (honestly, it feels like 75% of the people who come here are celebrating something), they'll typically be nice enough to offer a complimentary dessert. What a great experience! Would have loved a window table for our anniversary but maybe that's a special request. Our waiter was great! Very personable and was around at all the right times. Drinks: we got Soul Mate Sour and The G&G - I LOVE guava so the g & g was 10/10 so delicious! Soul mate sour was just fitting for the occasion. For our appetizer we got the sampler since we couldn't choose but if we go back again we'd get the ahi sashimi. They had a special salad available that night and it was delicious. It was probably arugula, pear, pistachio, goat cheese, and a vinaigrette. VERY GOOD. I don't have a photo of my partners food but he got the cottage cut roast prime ribs which again, DELICIOUS. And the horseradish options?! We still think about them. I also really loved the creamed spinach it came with. His plate was wiped clean. My husband and I had dinner there yesterday to celebrate our 10yr wedding anniversary. The food was absolutely outstanding. Perfectly seasoned till the very last bite. Came to Summit House for a Valentine's Day dinner. Everything was amazing! Restaurant- Cute english cottage restaurant. Beautiful outside, gorgeous inside. They had lots of parking, with valet option available too. Inside they had many fireplaces going and live piano music. All of the tables are facing a beautiful view. Such a beautiful ambiance. Service- Cameron was top tier. He was so sweet, helpful with questions and recommendations, and frequently checked in to see how we were doing. Our food also came out within 5-10 minutes of ordering it. We were amazed how fast the food came out! There were also kind gentlemen that came to clear our plates whenever we finished a dish. Such amazing service. Food- Food was 10/10. We tried escargot for the first time and my date loooooved it. It wasn't my cup of tea but they prepared it wonderfully. You're basically paying for bone. I got the castle cut expecting more meat but nobody lets you know that it is a bone-in cut and less meat than expected is pretty disappointing, ordered med rare but came out more medium, au jus and horseradish were good flavorful complements since the meat was on the bland side Creamed Spinach - on the salty side but complemented the weaker flavors of the prime rib Creamed Corn - very flavorful and definitely creamy, thoroughly enjoyed this one Row 503 Pinot Noir - dry enough to complement the prime rib, easy to drink and great pairing NY Style Cheesecake - dense and decadent cheesecake with tart strawberries and strawberry sauce to pair, great ending to a savory dish Besides the food, the biggest flat for me was the amount of critters during dinner. You know it's a celebration at Summit House. The private uphill entrance exudes exclusivity while the House on the hill provides a scenic view of the city. Make reservations because this restaurant was packed for Valentine's Day. There's private parking in the limited lot and they also have valet parking. The dining experience was superb and our server, Marissa, was very attentive. Despite being very busy, she always made sure to check on our table, snapped a great photo, and provided great detail of the menu. The Filet Mignon (7oz medium rare) was one of the most tender beef I've tasted. The chef cooked it perfectly with a seasoned crust on the outside and tender lightly red in the middle. The accompanying Béarnaise sauce elevated the dish. The creamed corn was savory with lots of corn and creamy flavorful sauce. The escargot was tender and cooked in delicious garlic butter. I used the complimentary sourdough bread to dip in the sauce which made it divine. I couldn't end dinner without dessert, which I tried the Caramel Bread Pudding. It was so good, and not too sweet. The bread had some crisp edges, which juxtaposed with the soft ice cream. The flavors melded together very well. Came here with my family on a Friday evening and had a reservation for 5:15. Got seated pretty much right away. We ordered the OC restaurant week special and I picked the lobster bisque, 7oz prime rib, and cream puff dessert (sorry can't remember what it's called). I couldn't have wine since I'm pregnant and was hoping they'd let me sub for a non alcoholic cocktail. All they could offer me was a soft drink so I opted for sprite + lemonade. Pretty bummed about that since a glass of wine was roughly $13, which is the same price as a cocktail. The lobster bisque was delicious and kicked my meal off pretty well. I had to order the steak at Medium which definitely made a difference for me. I didn't full enjoy it but the sides were amazing! We had creamed corn, creamed spinach, and a popover. The creamed corn was probably one of the best that I've had. My dessert was also fantastic. I was insanely full but had to keep eating. It was 2 scoops of ice cream in two cream puffs and the flavors just worked so well together. I've never had a dessert like that and it was definitely one of a kind! My only gripes is the critters we kept finding. There was a fly buzzing around the table for the first portion of the meal. Then after the soup came out, a spider crawled across the table towards my son and my husband had to get it with his hands. Then; towards the middle to end of the meal, a crane fly was flying around the table. I've actually never had a problem like this before in any restaurant so it was a bit annoying. The snails had more bitterness than expected Prime rib- this was divine. Every slice of the prime rib was so flavorful. I love how you can request it to be cut thinly into English cuts. The creamed corn and creamed spinach were very good, and I appreciated that it wasn't overwhelmed with heavy cream, like a lot of other steakhouses. I was a bit disappointed by the Yorkshire pudding, which came out a bit dry desserts- we tried the chocolate profiteroles and strawberry cheesecake. This place is still one of our favorite steakhouses. You can't go wrong with the prime rib or rib eye or any other dish on their menu. Bread pudding was also really good! Our waitress was also super nice despite the busyness. She gave us a little card for our celebration. Very pleasant! They instituted a new policy where you have to pay for an extra plate if you buy an entree to share. They told us big groups were coming in and ordering entrees to share and taking advantage of the unlimited bread and corn. Understandable but my wife and I are on low carb diets so we don't even finish the first round of bread and corn. Why not just cap the bread and corn or establish a threshold of orders based on the party size. Anyways not a big deal but just a heads up for people who want to share. Aside from that, prices are pretty reasonable for the dishes themselves. We ordered the prime rib castle cut which I believe is 24 oz. It was under $100 and I think we will have enough leftover for days. Option to valet park or at the visitors lot down the hill if you're willing to park. We come here every year for our anniversary since we had our wedding reception here but I had to make another review in honor of our server Julian. He just went above and beyond the service we have ever had coming here. We had our three young children with us, despite our circus he made us feel so welcome and was so accommodating. We really enjoyed sitting in the patio enjoying the view and the kids were able to play in the grass while we had some alone time. He suggested the best drinks for us to have with our meals and even had recommendations to make our meal stand out even more!! My husband said everything he suggested was spot on! If you love prime rib, you will know two main places in the Southern California area: Lawrys and Summit House. Summit House is literally like a lawrys, but some (including myself) may even say it is better or a very close competitor. Alongside some of the shareables, the primary distinction I've noticed between the two places, is that Lawrys has their prime rib in a serving cart, carved table side. This doesn't always means it's the best. Summit house has theirs in the kitchen, and is brought to you. I prefer Summit House because when you have the Prime Rib sitting in the cart and open air is exposed, the prime rib cools down very quick and you are almost served a cold prime rib. At summit house, it is hot (at least mine was)! The horseraddish sauce, sides, all spectacular. The prime rib excellent. Service is top tier, incredibly professional and friendly waiters. We started off the night with some lovely cocktails: G&G, chai espresso martini, margarita, which were all delicious. For the main entrees drinks, we brought a couple of beautiful wines from home. Corkage ($35) is expected, but what was odd is they capped you at a limit of bottles you could bring. You could only bring two (2) bottles of wine for the whole night! Appetizers: Escargot ($19) - very delicious, 8/10 Seaside Sampler ($64) - two plates of crabcakes, prawns, ahi sashimi, 7/10 Lobster Bisque Soup ($15) - delicious, 9/10 Main entrees: Summit House Cut ($68) - comes with corn, creamed spinach, Yorkshire popover, 10/10 Sides: Truffle fries ($12) - huge portion, VERY good and addicting, 10/10 We were STUFFED at the end of the night, and honestly it was so difficult to finish everything. I wanted to take my boyfriend to somewhere special for his birthday and he picked Summit House. It was definitely beautiful with the Christmas decorations and a wonderful touch with carolers greeting the guest as we walked in and waited. We were seated outdoors that overlook the city views. It was not too cold because they had heaters above us, and it was actually really nice outside with the fresh air and less noise. We were quickly created by our wonderful server, Linda. She was really warm and ran through the menu with us. We started with a Diet Coke and Smoke & Honey cocktail for the birthday boy. We ordered: - Crab Cakes - 2 Castle Cut Prime Rib - Mac & Cheese with bone marrow - Truffle Fries I have to say, I usually don't like crab cake in most places, but I'm really glad I got to try their crab cake. It was really good with lots of crab. We especially like the vegetable that came with it, not quite sure what it was, but it was delicious with the crab cake. We ordered their castle cut prime rib, and oh my goodness, it was definitely a generous cut. It came with a side of pop over, cream spinach, and cream corn. We also ordered their mac & cheese with bone marrow and truffle fries. Everything was really really good. Very generous portions with everything. I think next time, we will share a castle cut instead of ordering individually because we had so much leftover. The service and vibe was awesome. We even had carolers come by and sing happy birthday and a Christmas song to my boyfriend. The service was Linda was great. My baby sister had her wedding reception here and we are happy with how everything turned out. The mocktails were inconsistent. Some would come out extra sweet, which no one liked. Not sure how all the alcoholic ones were, but I was told the lemondrop and pineapple tea(?) were not very good. The food was good, but I wish they asked how we wanted our meat done. Everyone's came out on the rare side, which was not something all would have wanted. The staff was great though and my baby sister and baby bro in law had a wonderful time. That's what matters most! This place never misses. The prime rib is always tender and flavorful, and I have to get the truffle fries every single time. They're addictively crispy, thin-cut, and drizzled with just the right amount of truffle oil. So salty, so umami, so dangerous. I could easily crush the entire basket myself, and the portion is super generous too. The bone marrow mac & cheese is solid. Not my favorite, but I still order it sometimes because the presentation and cheese pull are on point. It's just a bit on the oily side. Even the complimentary bread is worth mentioning. It's soft, warm, and perfect with butter. The restaurant has such a cozy vibe, and for the portion sizes and quality, the prices are honestly really fair. The summit house has been a beautiful and delicious institution in the heart of Fullerton for decades! The restaurant is beautiful with the piano player, the lively atmosphere and the great service you can't go wrong. On this particular evening, my friends and I sat at the bar in the lounge. The French onion soup and escargot were delicious as was the rack of lamb my friends had. The bartender served us and he was awesome. Overall, a great experience at Summit House! Service was friendly and attentive, the views were beautiful, and the food came out surprisingly fast. Our only odd gripe -- the seating. Our group had a random mix of chairs: some cushioned and comfy, others hard table chairs that sat higher. Not a huge deal, but definitely gave off a mismatched vibe. We started with the seafood platter (crab cakes, sashimi, shrimp) and the charcuterie board. Both were okay -- fresh, but nothing special. Honestly, the appetizers were a little underwhelming. The soups and salads were a pleasant surprise, though! Everyone enjoyed theirs. I had the wedge salad -- super tasty and crisp, just wish it was a little lighter on the dressing. For mains, we got the prime rib, rack of lamb, ribeye, and filet. Everyone was happy with their meals and portions were generous. I tried a bite of the ribeye -- easily my favorite, even better than the prime rib IMO. Sides were decent overall, and the bone marrow mac and cheese was the standout -- rich, creamy, and delicious. We finished with the assorted desserts, which were perfect for sharing. My top picks were the cheesecake and crème brûlée. Least favorite was the chocolate ganache, but we also had a slice of carrot cake that looked amazing (wish I had room to try it!). All in all, Summit House delivered a solid meal with great service and views. It reminded me a bit of House of Prime Rib but with more variety, which I liked. Nothing was so special that I'm rushing back soon, but I'd definitely return again for another nice night out. read more

My long-time friend and I celebrated her birthday at Summit House last night. The kind person who seated us ensured the booth worked well for our table's (disability-related) circumstances. Abby B is so incredibly excellent! She had so much patience with us! Checking on us regularly and really making us feel welcome. The best service experience I've had in an incredibly long time. Assisting her and us was Andrew Rivas who matched her excellence in kindness and attention. On top of this excellent service, the live piano music was so very wonderful! I'm sorry that I don't know the very talented pianist's name. He played such great songs, took requests, and was so very personable. Summit House offers a variety of choices; my friend and I both enjoyed our Prime Rib dinners. We dined at Summit House to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. I made a reservation for a Saturday evening for a party of 5 and we were seated promptly upon arrival. Our table was near a window with a beautiful view of the city and the skyline/sunset as well as a pretty area with grass and benches and trees. Our waitress was Daisy which was super informative, knowledgeable, attentive, and sweet. The Chai Espresso Martini was delicious, loved it!, I ordered the Cottage Cut Prime Rib. I asked to substitute the creamed spinach with the au gratin potatoes and I asked for an end piece of the prime rib. Everything was perfect and delicious. The meat was moist and flavorful, the creamed corn and potatoes were loaded with flavor and delicious as well. We also ordered the bone marrow Mac and cheese and it was great! What stood out to me was the what I'd describe as sharp cheddar taste/flavor was perfect! Our dinner was a 5 out of 5. Summit House is of my favorite fine dining experiences tucked away from the noise of the city. With a menu that screams for over-ordering I am never disappointed by a dish ordered from here. On my most recent visit, we enjoyed an Easter lunch featuring delicious dishes like the Castle Cut Prime Rib - a massive amount of meat served with delicious au jus and the lightest creamy horseradish that I couldn't get enough of - alongside the Bone Marrow Mac 'N Cheese and Brussel Sprouts with rich flavor in every bite. I thoroughly enjoyed each bite while being able to look over the calming outdoor balcony area. Kudos to the female manager on duty for accommodating a move out of the sun on a busy holiday - I saw her doing her best to accommodate similar requests and ultimately the outdoor experience was wonderful as the sun quickly passed over to allow the umbrellas and shading outside to play their roles. Service had been up to par and standard as well - Darian is who had taken care of us if I'm remembering her name correctly. She was personable and attentive and responded well to our sense of humor, giving a bit of extra warmth to the dining experience. I highly recommend the Bread Pudding pictured as well. As someone who falls into the "not too sweet is best" clique I can say that this was a dessert I would come back for all by itself.
