If you're looking for a great place to grab a sandwich or salad, I'd highly recommend Summit Store. They also have a full grocery store too, in case you need anything from a beer to a toothbrush. I took some friends here for lunch today and we sat out on their outdoor patio enjoying our tasty bites and wonderful weather. I had the kale salad from the salad bar, delicious with some added garbanzo beans! My friends split a turkey, avocado, and bacon, plenty for two and they LOVED the dutch crunch roll. Although it has no real competition, the Summit Store is my go to lunch place when I'm visiting my clients along Summit Rd. and Mt. Madonna. It is a nice local grocery store with reasonable selection for its size but what I like it most for is the tri-tip sandwich. This sandwich has everything you need to get you going for a reasonable price. I prefer mine on the Dutch Crunch roll and I ask them to go light with the bbq sauce and it always hits the spot. A few times I also sampled the hot lunch bar and it wasn't bad and a good deal for the price but in the long run, I usually stick to the tri-tip sandwich. I wouldn't have any complaints about this store other than the people that work here. I was refused service due to a medical exemption from masks that I have had signed off by my doctor. The staff member, first a lady who was EXTREMELY rude and condescending right off the bat, hadn't said a word to her or laid my eyes on her before. She said let me get my manager, a guy who was probably equally as rude didn't want to hear a word I had to say and even going through the disability rights page from the state of CA page he would even look at it or my medical exemption paper on my phone. He just told me to leave and take it up with the owner, I was not rude and completely cordial throughout the encounters. Then I got a manager who was actually very polite telling me due to optics and bad press that they wouldn't let me shop there because people are afraid and will take picture without asking questions and take to social media. read more

This is an awesome little store with an absolutely amazing selection. The people are terrific, always in a great mood and they remember your name! When I first moved here I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had pickled okra on the shelves! Not a lot of variety of pickled okra, but that they had it at all was what surprised me. I'm just using this as an example, because they have one or two of EVERYTHING. This is certainly worth the little bit more that you have to spend, for not having to drive 25 minutes to get to a "big box" store. I am a long time resident of the Soquel Hills, have for a long time used the Summit Store and have always appreciated it being there on those trips over to San Jose. I've know the family for many years as extremely friendly and always very welcoming. When the opportunity presented itself to work a little, part-time, it was great. I never could have guessed how amazing the store, its employees and products actually are. There is a high standard and a constant push for perfection, improvement and refinement in every facet of that store. Whether it's keeping the produce fresh or the butchery stocked with only top shelf meats, it's become apparent to me just how much love and caring this family/staff have for the store, it's customers and employees. This is my neighborhood store and I couldn't be happier. The cooked food is excellent, especially asparagus soup, yummy! Also, have everything I need to cook about anything. Great local wine selection (and not so local). And...never assume because it is in the mountains, that it won't have gourmet specialty foods. Great little gem hidden in the Mountains of Los Gatos. I was pleasantly surprised at their lunch options. I had the Loaded Tri Tip from the deli which comes with tri tip (sliced in little pieces), bacon, and cheddar on dutch crunch. I've had tri tip sandwiches from all over California, and I've had dutch crunch from places all over the bay area, and this place might even make my top 5. I even came around lunch hour, and there wasn't even a line! Looking forward to next time I'm in the area so I can try out another sandwich! read more

This store is great and I have never had any issues before but I walked in to use the bathroom on my way back to town from a road trip and this guy, who seemed like a manager as he wasn't wearing an apron-- somewhat tall with medium-length hair --followed me in and then interrupted me as I started to ask someone else if I could use the bathroom. He told me I could use the back bathroom if I bought a bottle of wine and laughed in a creepy way. He then followed me through the store to the back as I tried to just ignore him and hope he would go away. But when I got out of the bathroom he was sitting at a desk right across from me and asked what I was up to and where I was going and I honestly just said something quickly and rushed out of there. The whole thing was very unprofessional and creepy. I hope this guy realizes that is not the way to act period, least of all at your place of work, yuck. read more

I read the review about this being a bike friendly store that lets you bring bikes in without hassling you. They actually won't let you bring a bike in under any circumstances and won't let you leave you bike anywhere within the store. I take my bike in all the other local markets and have never been hassled anywhere else. So this really isn't a store that is supportive of bikers in anyway, they are just the only store in the area that is popular with bikers. A bike doesn't take up anymore space than a shopping cart and is actually easier and safer to walk with cleats holding on to a bike and carrying a basket. So I think this policy of theirs s*cks. If you don't like this policy either, I would suggest buying elsewhere. read more

Bought my first tomahawk steak and was worried how to cook it. The guy in their meat department told me exactly what to do and OMG it came out wonderful. I didn't have any idea and had never heard of reverse searing. I followed his directions and my family said it was the BEST steak I have ever BBQed. I do a lot of work up off of Summit road and stop in for lunch all the time. They have an amazing deli and make great sandwiches. The patio is really nice to hang out and eat, especially on a nice day. They have a super friendly staff that will answer any questions you happen to have. Just today I called in to see if they had a certain Scotch in stock and to my surprise they did! Its a fairly uncommon brand that not many places carry. This place is really in the middle of nowhere unless you are wine tasting or just driving around... But totally worth making the trip to!!! They have a great selection of food and cheeses (and Mimi definitely helps you out).
