Fantastic meat section, always a hard decisions because so much looks amazing. Goodly cheese selections as well as beer selection. The store is small but still manages an enormous variety albeit eclectic in nature. Only bummer is the veggie section wish they had more but again space is a limitation. I was food poisoned at the Sushi center last Friday evening at the Summit Store. I ate the meal at 7:30. Something in the meal tasted a little off. I contacted the summit store, left a message, and sent an email. They never called me back. I was sick for three days and called them so that they might talk to the vendor who makes the sushi, but this issue didn't matter enough to them to call me back. read more

I like this place. They have a great staff and a great vibe. They literally have everything you need. A great produce section, beer selection is on point and their prices are reasonable. But I really like how they enforce their mask policy. In these times you can never be too safe and it really seems like they get that(unlike redwood estates market) and I really appreciate that. Lillette, D'Affenois, Fiscalini, Harley Chevre, Drunken Goat, Red Dragon, Tintern, Marco Polo, Point Reyes Blue, Montajeje Oveja, Machego,______ The list goes on and on at this joint. The cheeze whizz is at work, and she works hard for her money. This is your typical mountain man supermarket full of awesomely good beer, wine, prepared deli goods and a real butcher with splendiferous cuts of meat. But its the cheese lady who makes me trek up here. When I'm wine tasting I stop by. When I am jonesing for an artery clogging snack. When I wish someone would tell me my breath smells like cheese. Or when I wish to go 'hands-free' on a hunka hunka dry cheddar. I hear they are acquiring a liquor license so they can do wine tasting up here on the mountain. I can't wait. I've read the 5 star reviews for this store I'm not sure why it is rated so high. Ok it's the only market for miles in every direction, so there is really no other place near by to compare it to. It's a small market, so the selection isn't that great. The prices are higher than a lot of other markets, but since there is no competition you have to expect that. It's better than a Quick Stop, but I prefer Whole Foods or Nob Hill. read more

Best post-ride sandwiches after riding Flow or Demo Forest. The deli has a lot of specialty sandwiches that are great. Place your order, grab a drink or a beer, and head outside to the tables on the patio. Nice outside location. We live in the sticks... and this is our local store. Yes, we agree that prices are high(er) than your local Safeway, but c'mon people, thats to be expected. After all, this is in the middle of the sticks. This place was refurbished a few years ago and is now really cute. And, upscale (as upscale as the sticks can get). They have a great selection of meats (better than your local Safeway), and all your basics. Great selection of local wines and cheeses... we stop by often when we are having company. You have to be impressed with their large selection. They have great service & also tables / chairs to sit outside (often full on the weekends). read more

This place saved my life last week!! My family just moved up to the mountains.. and took off for the weekend. Leaving the house empty and NO FOOD! THANK GOD for this cute store. Summit Store is all about convenience. First of all let me say that they hire awesome people. Eric and the rest of the crew treat all of us locals like family. It somehow lessens the sting when you go to check out. I generally shop in town, start to make dinner and realize I need one ingredient. SO, I run up to Summit, and the next thing I know is that I'm dropping $100 after adding a handful of groceries. I don't mind so much unless I buy fruit or flowers. I don't know why I keep trying but I do - definition of insanity... The flowers start to die the minute you leave the store and 9 times out of 10, the fruit has no taste to it. Very disappointing and I don't have the time or energy to take it back. The meat dept is excellent - I highly recommend the Bloody Mary Tri Tip and the Cowboy Steak is fun to buy for your significant other to slap down in front of them. Its Fred Flintstone large - not quite but close. They just started selling ground meat for those who "spoil" their pets - yours truly - for $2.99 a pound. Its made up of trim they don't use and so you're helping to not waste. Double win! They also have an excellent selection of beverages with wines from our local vineyards but buyer beware, the wine guy will add another $100 to your grocery bill if you let him! Overall its a great little market and as long as Eric's there, I'll keep coming back (quit your grumbling, Eric, I can hear you from my house lol) read more

Every year something bigger and better seems to roll into this little use to be garage. The staff is very kind and familiar. Their sammiches are delicious (Russian Reuben, dark rye). Their meat is delicious. Their sushi prepared on site-delicious. Meals for the day, wine for the night, and extras for those you forgot in Safeway, this is the Swiss Army Knife of the Santa Cruz Mountains. First off, this is about the Deli, and not other aspects of the store. The Deli is take out. Today and about 6 weeks back, they have not been able to get orders right. Once in person, when they repeated it back correctly, then didn't execute, and another over the phone. Nothing more disappointing than opening up your take out order and it's wrong, and little recourse. Additionally, the in Deli counter ordering process is haphazard. Getting someone's attention is problematic, then never sure if it is the correct person. Efficiency and attention to detail need to improve before I use that service again. read more

I just love this little grocery store/market. Their sandwiches are amazing and they make them fresh there for you. My favorite is the Santa Cruzian, which I can only eat half of and save the rest for later because it's so HUGE! We also love the sushi guy and have used their services for house parties that we hosted over the summer this year and everything is always a big hit. The guy is super talented and basicly a food artist. Also, everyone that works there is super nice and happy to be there. The exact opposite of Safeway LG. The cashiers are friendly and the wine guy knows his stuff. On certain items, the prices are a little high, but it beats having to go into "town" for milk and cookies. Thank you Summit Store. Oh Summit Store...oh Summit Store...why do you have to be so far??? I've found myself making frequent trips to this place just for one reason....The Loaded TriTip sandwich. This sandwich is no joke the best tri tip sammy i've ever had. It's got tons of meat, bbq sauce, smoked bacon, lettuce, dutch crunch bread...oh god! I've always had great service here. The people are friendly and chat. They have tons of other food I WANT to try but I can never seem to stray away from The Loaded Tri Tip sammy. I'd probably get one once a week or so if I were closer. I just moved to nearby this store and couldn't be happier that we have such a great resource near the house! The store is well-stocked with all of the basics, excellent quality produce and meat, as well as some of the Whole Foods type products that it's nice to not have to leave the mountain for. Sushi counter is great and there's a very solid selection of cheese, wine, and breads. Prices are very reasonable and everyone who works there was super friendly, but not overly saccharine. Ok, I know plenty of people pass by this store as they take alternate routes over the hill or because they are wine tasting. There are also a large number of people who stop through here after their mountain bike rides (or along their road ride) and it's so nice to be able to stop by a store like this after a long ride for some much-needed food and refreshments. (I'm in that group!) This reminds me of the first time I went mountain biking with my boss and another manager. After the ride, we started discussing places to eat and I suggested Summit Store. They gave me a funny look and a non-committal "ok, I'll stop for a drink". When we walked into the store, they were *surprised* - in a good way, of course. A bunch of sandwiches to choose from at the deli, selections like hummus, deviled eggs (yum!) at the refrigerated section, a hot foods area with things like lasagne, mac and cheese, ribs and soups. They have beers and a ton of refreshing drinks to choose from. I've also started doing part of my weekly grocery shopping here as well as the fruits, meats and cheeses are so tempting. I'm trying to find something new every time I stop by to try because they have a great selection! The last thing I bought was something that they had free tastes of - cracker topped with bleu cheese and Dalmatia Fig Spread. Delicious. read more

Top notch selection of high quality specialty foods, AMAZING considering how remote this location is. They have a great meat counter with inspiring-ly high quality cuts. They carry Gizdich Ranch pies (if you haven't had one, you've never really had pie!) which I previously believed you could only get from Gizdich Ranch themselves. Summit Store has a wide selection of premium dark chocolates, ice creams and other great treats. Wine selection is strong, including many local (Santa Cruz hills wineries = VERY local) brands. Most importantly, this is my favorite destination for Pepper Plant sauces. Sure there are places that are closer, but to really pay homage to Pepper Plant, the Condiment of the Gods, I prefer to ride my Ducati to the Summit (Store) of a mountain, retrieving only a single bottle, each and every time I need more. I like this store. Totally a locals oasis in the middle of the dense forest of the Santa Cruz mountains. They have a deli and fresh made foods and snacks. They also have local wines, fruit preserves, bakery items and other goodies as well. The prices are a bit on the high side but I think it's a case of supply and demand out there. Great location next to the local wineries! Perfect stop! We bought made to order sandwiches at the deli and a snack box with cheese, crackers, turkey, and grapes which was perfect for our wine tasting adventure. We went wine tasting down the road at Wright Station which has tables n chairs outside so you can enjoy your wine and food. read more

3.5 stars. As far as I could tell, there were no other quick food options in the area. We stopped for a chicken sandwich, some rolls and granola type bar while wine tasting. The bar was the best thing. I wish we had gotten more. The prices were on the high side, but I guess when you're the only game in town, you can do that. read more

I LOVE YOU SUMMIT STORE. Maybe it is because every time I come here I am famished from mountain biking Demo Forest, maybe it is the fact that they always have amazing samples out for you to try (think Jalapeno hummus with pita chips, and little squares of chocolate covered rice crispy treats)... maybe it is the amazing local wine selection, or the perfectly concocted sandwiches made to order... who knows? But this place is a shining beacon of foodie heaven nestled in the Santa Cruz mountains. Staff are so friendly and nice. If I could give it an extra star for the nice deli counter lady that made my sandwich last weekend, I would. So sweet and helpful, and the suggestion of one of their fresh-baked-on-the-premises rolls for my sando was perfect. It hit the spot! read more
