Kat & Cristina are the ones holding this spot down- if it wasn't for Kats charismatic attitude and genuine help we would've kept walking by this underrated gem everyday like we have for months. I'm lucky to get to spend time with my Mother daily and go for walks in the am. Everyday we walk past here and never think to check it out or try it. One day we noticed their daily special board- walked in and the rest is history. Where can get a $5 burger anywhere these days ? Exactly nowhere ! We had an amazing lunch that didn't break the bank and supported a local family run business. It's a win win for everyone. The ambiance is nice and very well kept, clean and tidy with awesome artwork showing love and appreciation for the area. I highly recommend getting the sushi tots- they're these crispy, bite-sized fried sushi rice nuggets that are tossed in distinct sauces and seasonings. Amazingly delicious when paired with their dipping sauce they come with. I had the Bacon Banh Mi Burger" that's loaded with pickled daikon and carrot slaw, cucumber, lime, jalapeño, spicy mayo, furikake, and cilantro. WTF!! (What the find!) First time visiting Sumo Dog. This place was great! Interesting combinations of toppings and types of dogs. Quality ingredients, great service, pleasant atmosphere. The person that took our order was very helpful and offered different suggestions and explained the different items. Sumo Dog serves the OC/Orange County in Anaheim. Napa/Napa Valley, Indian Wells at the Tennis Garden, one in Seattle, Snowmass Village (Colorado) and more to come! This one in Indio aka the Coachella Valley (part of the Greater I.E./Inland Empire) is pretty iconic. You can find this one at The Canopy at Citrus Plaza. My first encounter with Sumo was their L.A. locations in Koreatown and then Santa Monica before branching out to these spots. Would love to see them back here, but I'm in the CV often so worth the trip #StayCation for a great hot dog. It's a cool take on traditional sports watching eats with Japanese flavors. An awesome fusion I recommend. Not a fan of the up charge for beyond meat or the fact that they don't offer a beyond meat burger sub... Obsessed with the Sumo Sushi tots! This is not the North Indio location with a drive thru off Ave 42, which I think is still confusing.... This is a cool spot with some great gluten free options! Which was exciting for my child who has an allergy and feels like they miss out on the "cool" places often. Staff is always incredibly helpful, patient and kind! I'm not huge on hotdogs, personally but there's are pretty good. I've also tried their burger which is a nice Japanese spin on a smash burger. Tater tots are bomb! Ive also tried the rice nuggets and they're great! Different but next time might go back jist for those. YELP SHORT ANSWER: yes... fun. LOCATION: Jammed in Citrus Center - Canopy, which is full of food options. Lots of parking most all times. A good place to visit with covered outdoor space. FACILITY: a bit small inside and ordering can become cramped in hot days but you'll be able to deal with it. MENU: maybe a bit complicated for me but I have figured out what I like, like the frozen beer. FOOD PREP: for what it is, all is fine here. FOOD QUALITY: very good. LIBATIONS: okay if I did not mention, the FROZEN BEER is amazing on a hota$$ day. WAITSTAFF: always doing their best, well above the average FF location. OVERALL VALUE: pretty ok, compared to the outrageously expensive options of neighboring establishments it is a bargain but more expensive than In-N-Out but it has its own vibe. I'm giving it four stars but I really think a 3.7 is a more accurate evaluation. The quality of the hotdog and taste of the hotdog is really good however I'm not a fan of sweet food as a general rule. I like it more savory Mom and I split the sumo Dog And the chili cheese, dog beef on both. On the sumo Dog I told them to omit the teriyaki sauce, but the relish was way too sweet so it's sort of ruined it for me. And the chili cheese dog was OK but I'm so used to the old-fashioned one that I always get over the years and it takes a while to get used to something new. Overall, it was clean and nice and the lady at the register was helpful. I think it's worth going there and trying it to see if it's for you. I like the concept but I think they need to work on the flavor of the combinations a little more. read more

I ordered the Katsu dog and also the chili tater tots to share. The Katsu dog is really good has a sweet marinated sauce and the lettuce adds a nice freshness and crunch to it. I would personally pass on the chili cheese tater tots, they taste like they will give you acid reflux, and the taste was not worth the potential acid reflux for me lol. read more

We got the sumo dog, the bacon banh mi, the miso katsu and the Godzilla hot dog. The Miso Katsu hot dog was my favorite but my dad really liked the bacon banh mi hot dog. The server was really friendly and because we sat outside she brought the food to us. It's a cute restaurant, especially for a fast food place. The menu is a cool fusion of American with hints of CaliMex and Japanese influence. I got the vegan Miso Dog and side of plain sushi tots. Delicious and filling! This place is an absolute MUST anytime i'm in the desert! Although it's a hot dog place, I come for the burgers especially. My favorite is the bacon banh mi burger. The bun is so soft and the smash patty is cooked to absolute perfection. The toppings pair so well together and create such a delicious texture for the burger. The cashiers are always friendly and the food comes out quick (depending on how busy it is). The decor of the place is nothing fancy but it's perfect for the sumo aesthetic. Solid, quick, and easy. I'm not the biggest fan of hot dogs but these things are loaded and filling. Chili cheese is classic and I was able to get it bacon wrapped. It was pretty much drowning in the chili so I might get it on the side next time lol The fries were fresh out of the fryer and salted well. My family enjoyed their Bacon Bahn Mi and the Sumo Corn Dog. The Corn Dog was crispy to the right degree. Staff was very friendly, helpful with recommendations, and accommodating. I gave this restaurant 3 stars because I think I would like to try other items on the menu. I went for the sumo dog as the safe route but it was kind of lack luster. My favorite part of the meal honestly had to be the tater tots. My boyfriend got a hamburger which isn't too fair to judge on since it was so plain but, he said it was good! So for any picky eaters joining someone to sumo dog there is an option for you! The service was good and fast, we visited when it was pretty empty. Sumo dog was an unexpected win for the day. This restaurant is newer and I hadn't heard it hyped up much so I waited awhile before trying it. Wish I had known about this spot sooner as they're serving up delicious hotdogs and sides. New business development off Jefferson, I was happy to see a few new restaurants and businesses opened up. I love hotdogs so I knew this one would be a must stop place for me but was waiting to hear updated reviews from the locals. I think the locals are sleeping on this place a little as it's an Asian fusion hotdog joint. Don't let the interesting combinations and toppings scare you away. Everything was super delicious and if you are more of a simple hotdog connoisseur, they do have plain dogs, chili dogs, etc. I came here for the real deal though and was intrigued reading about the miso Katsu hotdog. The hotdog it's fried katsu style and topped with slaw, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, green onion and sesame seeds. This hotdog was a 5/5. Super messy but delicious! One of the better hotdogs I've had in a long time. A little awkward to eat because of how messy it was but delicious nonetheless. I opted for a side of tater tots and those were great. Super crispy and fresh. The food here is much better than I would have imagined and portion sizes were generous. Staff here were friendly and nice. Girl taking my order at the register was kind and quick. The cooks have a good system going in the back and I was impressed how fast they got everything out as the food was made to order. Took the food to go and everything was packaged mindfully to make sure to not squish the hotdog and its toppings. The restaurant itself is smaller than it appears from the outside but was cute. Clean inside with some neon signage, it's got a fresh new look. They have an outdoor patio for seating, so as long as it's not too hot outside that's a nice option as again the inside seating was pretty small.
