Okay, this review is going to be a little all over the place because my brain gets excited when I find a good matcha. First things first... the double matcha was AMAZING. Smooth, earthy, not overly sweet, and it actually tasted like quality matcha instead of sugary green milk. I've had a lot of matcha around San Diego (probably more than my wallet would like to admit), and Sumo Go is officially in my top 3 matcha spots in San Diego. That's saying something. I actually haven't tried the food yet, but I stood there staring at everyone else's orders and everything looked bomb. They have donburi bowls, sandos, curry, karaage, Japanese snacks... basically all the things I already know I'm going to come back for. One thing I wasn't expecting was how cute the shop is. It's not just a place to grab a drink--they have shelves full of Japanese snacks, drinks, instant ramen, ice cream, and little treats that make you want to wander around for a few minutes before you leave. And can we appreciate the location? It's literally right below the dispensary... so if you happen to get the munchies, you don't have to think too hard about your next stop. Whoever planned that deserves a raise. The staff was super friendly, the place was clean, and the vibe was really welcoming. I already know I'll be back to work my way through the menu because if the food is even half as good as that matcha, it's going to be dangerous for my bank account. 10/10. Highly recommend if you're a fellow matcha snob.

Sumo Go is a combination eatery and grocery store in the Miramar neighborhood. Their end suite used to be the home of a short-lived South African restaurant. Parking spaces were plentiful in the plaza lot. Four small tables were placed outside for al fresco dining. A similar number of larger tables were inside along the right windows. Upon entering, multiple sets of shelves greeted you with displays of various Asian dried goods. A refrigerated display in the back left corner held items like sandos, cake rolls, and prepackaged beverages. The service counter was in the back right of the room. A menu board hung behind the counter that featured rice bowls with different kinds of proteins as the main food offerings. Three of the bowls were available in medium ($18) and large ($28) sizes. Several hot snacks were also available. For drinks, espresso, matcha, and lattes were the main choices. My takeout order consisted of the Shumai as a snack and the Gyu Don Curry as an entree. The Shumai (or pork hash as known to some) came as nine dumplings. To my surprise, they were like fritters with a creamy instead of meaty interior. I wonder if the kitchen mistakenly served takoyaki instead because I have never encountered shumai like what I was given. The curry was made up of thinly sliced beef, onions, potatoes, carrots, and white rice. The brown sauce was mildly spicy and flavorful. The large portion that I purchased was sufficient to feed 2-3 people. The worker who took my order was very pleasant. The Gyu Don Curry by itself was between four and five stars. On the other hand, the Shumai was somewhere between two and three stars. Overall, I rounded my takeout experience at Sumo Go to a four star level.

Wow, we tried this restaurant for dinner and food was wonderful! It's a cute little restaurant and parking was easy. We ordered to go which included the teriyaki shrimp tempura, pork katsu don and eel una don as well as a double matcha. I had to ask the lady what was the special spice they had at the counter and she said it makes the food taste better. I also asked if it was spicy and she said no. So I took some to try with our to go order. As soon as we got home, we were so impressed with the taste of the dishes we chose. My husband is a good cook and he said the eel was very good. I included the special spice on my pork katsu and it was pretty good too although not as crispy as the one in Japan (of course) but the flavor of the rice, eggs and onions were good. My favorite was the teriyaki shrimp tempura appetizer....so good. I also enjoyed the double matcha latte. We will definitely return here!!! The only thing I noticed is that I'm not sure if there's a restroom since it's a Grab and Go place. Maybe not for this place since it's for to go orders or for a quick stop for lunch or dinner. Service was good too since the lady answered my questions on the spice and favorite dishes.

I love how this place has such a great selection of food. My favorite dish was hands down the large unadon. The eel was perfectly grilled, and I also really enjoyed their house made teriyaki sauce. I had enough to bring the other half home for a second meal. I also got to eat some of my husband's large gyudon curry. We thought it was unique because most places have chicken katsu curry, but not gyudon curry. This was also delicious. We ordered a matcha lychee cloud kori, and enjoyed the lychee flavor. We also got a large matcha einspanner, but felt like it'd be best with a bit of oat milk for added flavor. There are about 5 small tables inside for you to enjoy your food and drinks. You can also buy snacks, desserts, and drinks that are prepackaged if you're looking for a quick grab and go. Service wise, they're efficient and also check in to see if you're enjoying your food and drinks. I really enjoy Sumo Go, and will definitely be back!

Very cute store with yummy food. The workers are very kind. For the unagi bowl, it had a bit too much sauce for my liking which made it slightly too salty, but I enjoyed it a lot because the unagi had a nice taste. I would like to come back to try other signature drinks because they were a good balance of sweetness and flavor.

Sumo Go is an absolute gem and now a Go-To spot for me! They specialize in high quality food, drinks, and snacks from Japan. I was ravenous for an early lunch and we ordered a large Gyu Don curry ($28) and large Una Don ($28). The large size is absolutely the way to go - as the owner described it - you get double the food for not double the price (regular size is $18). The portions are huge and the food was so delicious, fresh, it blew me away. It was plenty to bring back for dinner. The unagi was perfect cooked and we got an entire filet with the large size order. I couldn't stop eating the Gyu Don curry. When we left the owner even stopped by to offer some curry to go and some boxes and bags. Awesome service! We also ordered a matcha einspanner. My only recommendation would be to offer this drink with oat milk as it was made only with water. They have a few tables inside and outside. Overall this place is awesome!

Came here for the first time and was blown away by how many snacks they sell from my childhood! My husband and I shared a Unadon, a chicken karaage and their seasonal strawberry matcha drink. The unadon sumo size is HUGE and enough for the two of us to share. The flavor was 10/10! The karaage flavor was also really good but bit on the dry side so it may just be the cut of meat we got. Strawberry Matcha Latte was amazing! They definitely use quality matcha here and bonus points for oat milk alternatives! Staff was also super nice and we got our food pretty quickly! Can't wait to come back!

    Gyoza
    Isabel A.

I love this place!! I'm a huge fan of gyoza and get them every time. They're always piping hot and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. I also really like their espresso and coffee drinks like their einspanner. The owners of Sumo Go also have booths at many farmers markets around San Diego, so you may have already tried some of their food before. I know I did. The first time I stopped at Sumo Go, the owners actually recognized me even though it had been some years! On that note, the staff here are absolutely lovely. So friendly, helpful, welcoming. It makes the place feel cozy. Whenever I visit, Ashley is there ready to assist, and she always greets me like an old friend. Everyone else I've met has been super chill and kind. You can tell from talking to the staff here that this restaurant is their passion. Support small and local business and check it out!

    Egg Salad Sando
    Deanne L.

For my first time visit, I tried their Egg Salad Sando to-go which was already made and located in their refrigerated shelf. Was just above $7. Has both egg and potato inside. I liked it, no complaints. Good amount of each ingredient; not too much mayo, had enough egg salad filling, and bread was soft. It came with a brown savory sauce which I never tried with an egg sandwich before, but thought it was worked well together. Service was nice from the gentleman that day. Small shop with a a few tables inside

Una Don (eel) and Gyu Don Curry (beef/curry)
    Pat G.

We ordered the Una Don, Gyu Don Curry, and the grab and go Egg Sando (not pictured). Everything was so delicious and flavorful!! The Una Don (eel) was my favorite dish, the eel was soft and such a delight to eat. I try not to eat a lot of rice but I couldn't help myself the rice was so good! I'm glad we found this gem and we will definitely be back! I must also add that the service is was amazing! He was very friendly and genuine! Thank you!

    Karaage Chicken & Takoyaki
    Niki H.

My brother recently recommended we try Sumo Go, since he's been there before once or twice and wanted to show me a new spot. We ended up getting the Karaage Chicken Bowl and Takoyaki with Double Matchas for both of us. I really liked the Takoyaki, since it tasted nice and savory with a good crispness to the outside and the Double Matcha really hit the spot. It's hard to find well-made matcha sometimes but I was pretty impressed! Definitely better than your average chain coffee store matcha. They ended up bringing us an order of Gyoza on the house for coming back and supporting them, and it was also very delicious. This is a great spot with kind people running it and I would recommend it to anyone who's in the area.

Delicious little spot with friendly staff and very yummy food! The drinks were tasty and the bowls were filling and I think appropriately priced for the size and quality (though it'll still run you $18-20ish minimum at the time of this writing). The shop also has a variety of Asian snacks for purchase.

There was so much flavor between the salmon, orange slices, and garlic aioli. Everything blended together like a unique piece of art. - Rainbow Roll - solid and what you'd expect. Not my favorite item of the day. - Sea dragon roll - delicious: the attention to detail with the avocado slices to the perfect grilled eel this one blended together really nicely. - Poke Bowl - I ordered 3 scoops of Salmon (extra $5 for the third scoop) - this was really delicious. The salmon marinade blended together nicely with the flavored rice. Una Don - the unagi pieces had the perfect smoky and sweet flavor blend. One of the best unagi pieces I've ever had. Overall five stars for the quality of food, creativity especially with the Orange Ginza Line, and service. I will caveat that the portion sizes are quite small for the price point. I was out the door $118 for this meal for two. I'd recommend ordering like you would at an elevated dining restaurant. Try a bowl and a couple of rolls per person and splurge a little. The interior of the shop is clean and minimal and on the smaller side. Be warned there was no AC on a warm summer day when I came. Thanks to a Yelp recommendation, and always on the hunt for quality sushi in San Diego, I had to get my husband and I a reservation. Today, a weekday, we snagged a reservation for noon. I highly recommend a reservation because even within a few minutes of sitting down there were other diners showing up and service picked up quickly. However, I'm sure you could always grab a seat at their sushi bar. One aspect of dining today that we both took notice of was their attention to detail - especially in service. We greatly appreciated that our table had a sign with our name and reservation at the table - just giving that they were prepared to receive us and made it a little extra special. Another note is their attention to swapping out our sake glasses as we changed types of sake during our meal. Oftentimes you're served a new drink and expected to use the same glass. For us, we appreciated a new glass. Regarding our dining experience - no notes. Chef 100% knows what they're doing and I feel I would be ridiculous to even begin to critique their approach and service. I love that omakase have become more approachable for diners and it is something I enjoy trying whenever visiting a new sushi restaurant. I feel it can be a great opportunity to try a little bit of everything Chef has to offer. For today, I chose their midi omakase option and my husband tried their chef's choice of hand-roll set. Trying to keep this review to an appropriate length, well, there just isn't enough I could write that could put into words the enjoyment we had. So, if you're still with me, I highly recommend Moment Sushi. We will definitely be dining again!

We walked into a clean, functional space with a straightforward ramen shop feel that keeps the attention on the food rather than the décor. The atmosphere is unpretentious and efficient, the kind of place where you come for the bowl in front of you rather than the surroundings, and the steady flow of customers speaks to the quality coming out of the kitchen. The ramen is the main highlight, especially the noodles and broth combination. The noodles have a great texture with a firm bite that holds up well in the soup, which makes a noticeable difference in the overall bowl. The tonkotsu ramen delivers a rich and savory broth, creamy without being heavy, paired with toppings like chashu and soft-boiled egg that add layers of flavor and texture. The spicy miso ramen adds more depth and heat without losing the comforting qualities of a classic ramen bowl, and the heat level is balanced well enough that it does not overpower the other components. The tantanmen and black sesame ramen are also good options if you want something a little different from the standard ramen lineup, each offering a distinct flavor profile that still feels rooted in the traditional style. The toppings help round out the experience, with the chashu being one of the stronger parts of the meal. The pork is tender and flavorful, with a nice sear that adds a subtle smokiness, and it pulls apart easily without being mushy. The soft-boiled egg is cooked to that perfect jammy consistency, and the seasoned egg adds a richness that ties the bowl together. The karaage is another popular addition, with crispy pieces that work well as a side alongside the ramen, offering a contrast in texture and a break from the broth-heavy main. There are also options for different preferences, including vegetarian choices and customizable add-ons, which gives the menu a bit more flexibility than some ramen spots. One thing to plan for is the wait. The restaurant uses a waitlist system, and it can get busy during peak dinner hours, so joining the list ahead of time is the best way to avoid standing around. Once seated, the service is generally efficient and the food comes out quickly, which helps keep the experience moving without feeling rushed. The staff handle the flow well, and the turnover moves at a pace that matches the casual, no-fuss style of the restaurant. Menya Ultra is one of those ramen spots where the quality of the noodles and broth makes it worth the visit. The combination of authentic flavors, well-executed bowls, and a focused menu makes it a strong choice for anyone looking for a satisfying ramen meal in San Diego. It delivers the kind of bowl that feels both comforting and intentional, the sort of meal that stays with you after the last spoonful.
