Just ate there for the first time, this place is the real deal. Best Japanese cuisine I have ever had. My wife and I each got the hibachi steak meal and also split sides of Chicken and the Scallops. Absolutely every piece of that meal was delicious! The price was unbeatable as well compared to the typical Hibachi Grills. 10/10 will be a regular customer there for sure now. read more

First time ordering from the new and Sumo did not disappoint ! We went to the newly opened Livonia location. Cute decor- open, modern space with bright colors. Ordered chicken hibachi with fried rice and soup. Yummy!!! Serving sizes are perfect for dinner and enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Super busy which is great but food took 10 minutes longer than the quoted 30 minute wait. We weren't in a rush so no problem. read more

it's simple. the best ingredients, great staff and a clean store front. 10/10 would recommend this out of any japanese "hibachi" style restaurant in the immediate area. no indoor seating which is totally fine because i believe this helps keep costs of the food lower than what you'd get at a sit down "hibachi" style restaurant. bravo sumo! read more

This place just opened and I was very excited about the idea of counter service hibachi. The prices are comparable to other sit down hibachi grills in the area. I ordered the tuna hibachi and was told my tuna was cooked medium rare, I thought "awesome". Well, tuna was over cooked - no pink at all but the seasoning was good. Loved the fried rice and the stir fry noodles were great. I think next time I go, I'll try a different hibachi entry. My boyfriend enjoyed his hibachi chicken. read more

Does not stand behind what it sells! Ordered through Door Dash - ordered 2 $14 meals containing chicken. Order comes and it is 4 small boxes each with cubes of plain chicken. About one 1/2 chicken breast in each box. Actually take the time to dress, leave my ailing relative & teenage nephew to go out in the rain and drive to the establishment. Manager/owner/whomever claims it was the fault of Door Dash & how order was placed. Said DD person said chicken, just chicken. This place has basically one meal - noodles & veg with salmon, shrimp, chicken or steak (extremely fatty beef - DO NOT order the "steak"). You go in, up to counter and order by saying the main ingredient, i.e. shrimp for shrimp box meal, steak for fatty-ass steak box meal, and chicken for the chicken box meal! But for some reason on this rainy night they decide to change up the ordering(what kind or moron does this, and where was the brain of her supervisor or manager?!) and take an order for a $14 chicken meal to be literally just dry chicken breast cubes! WTF! Manager refused any kind of compensation! Said to call Door Dash for resolution. REALLY? Hell No! NEVER, EVER AGAIN WILL ANYONE IN MY FAMILY CROSS THE THRESHOLD OF (or order from) THIS PISS-POOR EXCUSE OF A RESTAURANT, with it's moronic staff and it's total lack of customer service, or any type of professional ethics! read more

Tonight my husband wanted to try out this place. He ordered the shrimp and I got the steak. I have to say that everything was very good. The veggies weren't over cooked, the chicken fried rice was good and my steak cooked perfectly. The flavor was very good. This is my new favorite Japanese restaurant. We were very intrigued by a local takeout place with 4.5 stars, so naturally, we had to try it. I had the hibachi scallop and my husband had the hibachi shrimp. They were very good about fulfilling our special requests - extra zucchini and cook and box broccoli separately. I was happy to see the scallops are quite sizable, considering it comes from a takeout restaurant. It was good, not amazing. They were on the verge of being overcooked, which for scallops, is a very fine line between tender and rubbery. I thought the noodles were also good, not great. They were a bit heavy-handed with the pepper. I love pepper, but pepper shouldn't be the main taste in noodles. Chicken fried rice was also good not great. It can use an extra dash of salt to bring out more of the flavor of everything else in the fried rice. My husband asked for extra zucchini and I ended up getting more than him and I didn't make any special requests. We asked for the broccoli to be cooked and boxed separately and there were 3 small florets. The onion chicken broth soup was also good not great. I didn't see any onion in the soup but it had several pieces of noodles (the same ones from the side dish) in it. Given how much we paid for these dinners and just being overall good not great, I don't foresee myself craving another meal from there. read more

They give you big portions. You get noodles and rice so that's filling In comparison to Benihana and ichiban it doesn't really stand up to them in flavor but the price is cheaper.. With ichiban being across the street I'd probably just call ahead and get carry out from them. The wait will be virtually the same. I'd spend a few more dollar. The food wasn't bad just I prefer ichiban or Benihana. I didn't like the garlic butter really. I love garlic butter there's didn't taste garlic at all read more

The food and price were great the portions are also good. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because it took me a couple of tries to get a hold of them without being sent to voicemail also I ordered my steak medium and it was definitely medium rare but I didn't mind it because on occasion I do eat my steaks medium rare. Went for hibachi, got good hibachi. The rest was a little lackluster. As mentioned in other reviews, definitely call in your order because if you just walk in, you'll be waiting 20 min or more. The main dishes are served with noodles and either fried or steamed rice and either soup or salad. The salad is a couple of lettuce leaves with carrot and a vinaigrette and the soup is a beef broth with some of the same noodles served with the hibachi and some green onions. We got the chicken hibachi and it was very good, especially with the "yum yum" sauce - a mayonnaise based sauce with notes of ginger and some sort of citrus that really helps brighten up the chicken and vegetables. Service was polite and order was correct, just took a while. Would come back, but definitely calling it in ahead of time. read more

Very good fast hibachi place! Each meal comes with soup or salad, rice ( chicken fried rice for $2 extra), noodles, and choice of entree with yum yum sauce. It was very worth the price. I got the hibachi shrimp and it came with a good sizing for $15( with fried rice ) my family also got hibachi vegetable and chicken. Only thing we didn't care for was the soup, but the salad and salad dressing was good. I will be back soon! read more

I was impressed how clean and modern the place was when picking up my order. The best part of all is when I reached home to open up my dinner. The presentation and food is amazing! My family has ordered from here a handful of times since they opened and it's been amazing every time. We always get the chicken and salmon hibachis and everything is always delicious. It's a little on the pricey side, but the portions are big enough that it can be saved for lunch the next day, so it's like paying for two meals and it balances out. Definitely call your order in ahead of time, as it takes about 20 minutes for everything to be ready since they cook everything fresh on the spot. We'll definitely keep coming back! read more

Love Sumo Grill! Hibachi is some of my favorite food but sometimes I don't want to sit down for an hour+ and go through the whole experience of the chef cooking things in front of me. When I'm short on time or just want a yummy carry out Sumo is a great option. I've had both the beef fried rice entree and the steak hibachi and neither of them disappointed. Ordered carryout for me and my son yesterday. When calling ahead the lady said it would be 10 minutes. When I pulled up in the lot in about 9 minutes she was already boxing things up ! My first impression of the lobby was it is clean and fresh looking. Very modern with state of the art cash registers and multiple TV's. We both got the hibachi chicken with fried rice for an extra $2. They package everything up with quality containers and utensils. The food was very good and the portions were more than adequate especially for a $12 meal. The sumo sauce was a unique twist that we both liked. I'd definitely go again. read more

I was anxious to try the spot as it is new in Livonia. Overall it was a good experience and my family agreed we would order again. The food is very flavorful and portions were generous.
