Great option for pickup. You wouldn't know this was a land locked state. The fish was fresh. We ordered online and arrived to a long line of people waiting. We had the best experience with this Japanese sushi-grill restaurant a few days ago in this coronavirus pandemic era. We ordered, paid, and tipped online from our car in their parking lot. They had their door open, with a sheet of plastic/vinyl covering the top half of the doorway, and a table blocking the doorway with take-away paper menus, a tip jar, a hit-it-on-top metal bell, and hand sanitizer on it. The server, wearing a mask, brought the very well packaged food in handled bags to the table when it was ready and asked you to verify your phone number before putting it on the table for you to pick up. We wore masks and had hand sanitizer in our car. Excellent protocol and excellent food. The gyoza, scallop appetizer, sushi combo, teriyaki shrimp, chicken katsu, shrimp yakisoba, and shrimp and vegetable tempura were delicious, prepared just right, and attractively packed. The dinner entrees were accompanied by miso soup, garden salad, and steamed rice. We had four adult dinners and four lunch leftover meals from that quantity of food. The nigiri sushi had a nice portion of fish on a smaller than typical rice portion, which is perfect for a diabetic diet. Our first but not last trip to patronize them. This place is fine if you're just looking for an inexpensive lunch deal or some rolls. As far as traditional Japanese food, this is not where you should eat. We went for lunch, and ordered two appetizers, a volcano roll, and three lunch sets. All told, our bill was $75, which was a killer deal. Taste-wise, everything but the fried rice was mediocre and drowned in sauce. The fried rice was inedible; it tasted as if it was cooked in old grease. Our server was prompt and attentive, and went out of her way to make sure the meal was ok. The dishes were very nicely presented, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is trendy, with fun lights and murals. This was a top 5 sushi experience for me. There were 5 of us and every single person was blown away and can't wait to come back. Every roll we ordered was delicious - very fresh, came out pretty quick for being completely packed and on a waitlist. The truffle tuna appetizer and Bronco roll stole the show for us. The service was great - friendly, fast and made great recommendations. The dessert roll with fruit was absolutely incredible - almost like a sushi cheesecake roll. A classy, clean, fun environment. We've been sleeping on this place but plan to be regulars moving forward! Definitely definitely try this place if you love sushi! I love Sumo. I have tried a few different spots in Longmont that are good... But, Sumo is by far the best. My favorite rolls are the hot girl and the out of control. My favorite special is the three-roll lunch special. Great deal and so so delicious. The plum wine is fantastic as well! We've had the same server every time we've dined in and she is good. Checks in a lot and keeps the convo light. One night, we had a bartender who was SO personable and fun to chat with - wish I remembered her name. Recently decided to visit since we have family visiting for Thanksgiving. Upon entering, the entire place is empty on a Saturday at 8 pm; alright, maybe it's just slow, no big deal. All the waitresses are lined up, and their eyes follow us like a painting in Scooby-Doo, a bit unsettling but not a big deal. We get to ordering, and everything is fine. The music is pretty loud, so we struggle to talk to the other side of a booth table and end up playing what is basically telephone. We order and wait for a bit. The booths next to use decided to use the top of our booth to store their coats, so to avoid the smell of cheap perfume, we had to scoot away. The place is loud, almost empty and smells a bit at this point then the table next to us has a birthday party so now there is a loud drum, loud music and candles like smell like cigarettes. Finally, it ends, but now the entire booth reeks like a wine aunt on Thanksgiving. After several minutes it clears and finally our food arrives. I ordered smoked salmon and a miso ramen. What came out was a cauldron of murky water. The appearance doesn't really matter to me, and I try it. Well, the cover of the book is pretty accurate in this scenario because it also tasted like dirt. The rice that held the sushi together was mushy, like it was the wrong type of rice. The smoked salmon was just normal salmon, the mackerel tasted like a different fish, the chicken was mushy, and the salad was smothered in garlic. We sent the ramen back, and they took it off the total, which we were all grateful for. Overall, this place is sort of like Denny's for Japanese food. For the prices, it was diffently not worth it, and the dining in experience is a sensory nightmare. read more

Sumo is my favorite sushi place in the area so far. While it looks dark from the outside, the inside is a beautifully decorated sushi lovers paradise. Most recently, my husband and I shared the orange dragon roll and the hot girl roll, and both were wonderful. The hot girl definitely had some heat, so it's not for the faint of heart, but I loved it. I love that they give you warm towels to clean your hands before your meal, and the service is super fast. There are plenty of non sushi entrees as well, so it's a good place to bring anyone. I love Sumo, and you will too! read more

Service was pretty slow especially since I didn't order anything that was cooked. People that came in 10 minutes after I did were served before me. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. I think it was yellowtail. Lol the presentation was pretty bad. Kingsoopers looks a lot better to me. The Tuna and the other fish was all chopped up into a mush and it was not very cold! Over $9.00 for a 22oz beer! I think I can get get it cheaper at Coors field! Was hoping for a good new sushi local but nope, not this at all. Overly priced sushi rolls that are nowhere near worth what they charge. Usually two rolls will fill me up but it did not here at all. We also got that Yaki Soba, and it was okay but definitely not what I am used to from living in Japan. Honestly very disappointing. We need a good sushi/Japanese restaurant in Longmont. This is absolutely not it, just over priced American-Asian food. They serve lunch Monday-Saturday and it's about half the price of dinner with a bit of a smaller portion. But you will still get full. The ambiance is terrific, peaceful and mood setting. OUR THIRD TRIP OUT OF THREE TRIPS WE GET WET WASHCLOTHS TO WASH OUR HANDS!! This made me laugh! I wonder if they forgot to do this before (or maybe don't do it for lunch) or just started it? Hmm? They don't give you a fork so you have to ask, but you get washcloths!!! OH COME ON!! We waited about 5 min to get one so we could eat our salads. I'm not a fan of stabbing lettuce with a stick. Be prepared to pay about $25-35 a person coming in here for dinner (or if you order a dinner size). On SUNDAYS THEY DO NOT HAVE LUNCH. Only dinner prices & portions. But, as for everything else I'm not sure how to describe the flavors. My Dr. Pepper was flat. The shrimp today was VERY OVERCOOKED. To the point where the teriyaki sauce was CARAMELIZED. I have never had this happen at a hibachi restaurant. This place needs to get it together with the kitchen area. I believe their speciality would be sushi. My boyfriend got the sea urchin sushi. TWO TINY PIECES FOR $14.00!!!! He wanted to try something new. HE COMPLETELY LOST HIS APPETITE. Literally! It was that bad. This place isn't what I wish it was. I'm only giving two stars because of the ambiance and secondly, the fact that we always get to sit down pretty quickly and get in and out in about an hour. This was a wonderful experience. We went here once when I didn't feel well and I had the grill. It was over cooked and I was not impressed. I almost didn't give it another chance but my very persuasive and persistent wife said I should. I hate it when she is right The sushi was fantastic.
