When I arrived, the restaurant smelled awful. The table were sticky and the seat were worn out, there were a few people dining. I didn't even try the food, because its smelled and just the appearance was tacky and gross. I didn't even want to try the food after that.

I've been coming here since I was little yes the place is a bit worn down but I find it gives it character. And if you value good food over looks (food looks spectacular though) this is the place for you. The lady there is always kind and even though I have social anxiety I find it perfect to eat here every time. They even have amazing prices check out the dinner or lunch specials menu!!

Favorite place to get sushi. I used to live in Camarillo 2 years ago & the sushi here has stayed the same. Heavier fish to rice ratio -- which I love. Great flavor and relatively quick wait time. I'd say this is closer to 4.5/5. Cost is worth the meal as I'm always beyond full after eating here. Atmosphere is what I'd expect -- not a place I'd call too "fancy" but that's what can make this a monthly favorite if you're a sushi gal or pal. Restaurant has a very average restaurant feel

The rolls are huge they live up to the name Sumo. We are use to little rolls and didn't realize how big they were. The food is good. Service was quick. Inside is very nice looks different from outside.

But this afternoon there were a few customers enjoying dine in, while I opted for take out. (I ate outside in the community patio area that is shared with other restaurants) I ordered the lunch A sushi combo. 4 pieces of sushi and a California roll. I was going to get the Alaskan roll, but chose this and was very satisfied. I'll be coming back so I'll get the Alaskan roll next time. For $14.99 I was given a piece of tuna, albacore, salmon and shrimp sushi, along with a California roll. You also got a small miso soup, which was delicious. The fish was fresh tasting and of very good quality. My least favorite was the shrimp piece. Although fresh and presented well I felt the taste was rather bland. Very easy to happen with shrimp sushi. I stay away from it for that reason. Perhaps I'll see if, for an upcharge, I can sub a different piece for it next time. This combo choice for lunch was the perfect amount and very reasonably priced. The sushi chef and server were both very pleasant and welcoming. I found the restaurant and sushi area (open sushi bar) very clean and organized. I would definitely come back.

My favorites are the Chirashi, assorted sashimi salad and various nigiri sushi. It's a small restaurant and can get quite busy during the weekend, so service may be lacking at times. When it's busy I find sitting at the bar is more effective because you can order directly with the sushi chefs.

The drinks alone were worth it to us. The good: Lots of options. Shrimp pasta, mac 'n' cheese, biscuits 'n' gravy, ham, beef tenderloin, sushi, all the breakfast things, salad, fruit, chicken milanese, salmon. A lot of it was overcooked but it's a buffet so whatever. The meh: Put us on the patio in direct sunlight. Asked about a table inside and they said nothing was available. The restaurant was never full and for the entire hour and 14 minutes we were there, I saw two tables that were empty the whole time. There were cobwebs all over the railings and weeds growing out of the planter. The dessert options were terrible. Nobody wants crepes. The pastries were not fresh baked but the macarons and carrot cake were passable. It looked like maybe the owner took the day off because I went two years ago and it was significantly better. At this price point I probably won't go back for the holiday stuff but definitely will continue to go for the regular menu and happy hour.

We are attending a conference, so we asked for separate checks, no problem. One of our friends in the group is on a dietary restricted diet and he was so amazing. He asked what the restrictions were and then said he would do his best. Even after he brought out all of food he came back to check to see if she was okay with it and offered to substitute anything that didn't work for her. THIS is customer service. All of our meals were perfect! Excellent flavor, cooked as we asked. We were so engrossed in our conversations that we didn't realize that we were the last ones there and that the restaurant was already closed. We never felt rushed & our server even offered dessert! Thank you for a great dinner & excellent customer service!

The Y2K roll is simply a CA roll topped with salmon, eel sauce, and spicy mayo, which might seem super simple, but the quality of the fish, paired with the two sauces, makes an absolutely amazing flavor bomb. All of the workers here are extremely welcoming. Our server, Toshi, was very attentive, refilling all of our drinks with no hesitation or wait. Masa-san is also the hardest-working chef out there; huge props to him. The chefs here treat their to-go orders just as importantly as they do their dine-in orders. From Oxnard to Camarillo to Thousand Oaks, if you're a sushi lover, you have to give this restaurant a shot. You will not be disappointed!

A Disappointing Experience at Masa Sushi -- Especially for Guests With Food Allergies…read more We have visited Masa Sushi frequently because, when our orders are prepared correctly, the food is genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the service has become consistently disappointing, and after our most recent experience, I feel compelled to share a serious concern--particularly for anyone dining with food allergies. I have a serious gluten and dairy allergy, and every time I visit, I make a point of clearly communicating my allergies when ordering. Unfortunately, the server consistently seems unable or unwilling to acknowledge these concerns. He often simply stares at me without responding, and there appears to be a significant language barrier that makes communicating important dietary restrictions extremely difficult. His body language can also come across as visibly frustrated or irritated when I ask questions about my food. During my most recent visit, I ordered a Chirashi bowl and specifically requested no Kani (imitation crab) because Kani can contain wheat and therefore poses a serious risk for someone with a gluten allergy. I made this request specifically because previous Chirashi bowls at this restaurant have arrived with Kani despite my request to have it removed. When I explained that I could not have the Kani, the server told me, "There is none in it." I was confused because my previous Chirashi bowls had contained it. Unfortunately, when my food arrived, the Kani was there again. I immediately called the server over, pointed directly to the Kani, and told him, "I can't eat this." He took the plate back to the sushi bar. Instead of preparing a new dish or addressing the potential cross-contact issue, the Kani was simply removed from the existing dish, and the same plate was returned to me. I asked, "You didn't replace it with anything?" The server did not answer and quickly walked away. This was particularly concerning because when someone has a serious food allergy, simply removing the offending ingredient from a completed dish is not necessarily an adequate solution. The Kani had already been in contact with the other food on the plate. At a minimum, I would have expected the restaurant to take the allergy seriously, communicate with me about how the dish was being remade, and provide a safe replacement rather than simply picking the ingredient off and returning the same food. The service in general is also extremely slow and consistently feels disconnected. This doesn't seem to depend on how busy the restaurant is; even when there are only a few tables, the service often feels flustered, inattentive, and at times rude. It's unfortunate because the food itself really is good. We've returned many times because we genuinely enjoy it when everything is prepared correctly. However, delicious food isn't enough to justify repeatedly dealing with this level of service--especially when a customer's serious food allergy is involved. For anyone with a significant food allergy, I would strongly recommend exercising caution and making sure the restaurant can clearly understand and safely accommodate your dietary restrictions before ordering. In my case, after this experience, I no longer feel comfortable dining at Masa Sushi despite genuinely enjoying the food. Great food, but the service and handling of serious allergy concerns need significant improvement.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Ori, the General Manager, who was incredibly kind and warm. Our server, Joaquin, took fantastic care of us throughout the entire evening with amazing, attentive service. We started with drinks, and they were spot on--my glass of Pinot Noir was absolutely delicious. For food, the crab cakes were incredible and packed with flavor, but the standout of the night was the Miso skewers. They were so flavorful that I've officially found my new favorite dish! The ambiance was quaint, cozy, and romantic, making for a perfect evening. They completely turned things around, and we can't wait to come back!

A Masterclass in Consistency (Just Not the Good Kind)…read more I keep going back to Lure Fish House in Camarillo with friends and family, holding out a tiny sliver of hope that this will finally be the visit where things click. Spoiler alert: hope is delicious, but unfortunately, it's not on the menu. The atmosphere at Lure Fish House is undeniably beautiful, featuring a bright, immaculate interior that feels fresh and airy. With its modern coastal decor and well-appointed layout, the dining room creates a genuinely pleasant environment from the moment you walk in. After multiple visits, I have to give credit where credit is due: Lure achieves a level of culinary temperature-reversal that defies physics. The soups arrive at a refreshing room-temp-to-chilly, while the salads seem to have been gently sunbathing on the line before hitting the table. As for the main course, the kitchen has an extraordinary commitment to serving fish so undercooked it feels like a skilled veterinarian could still revive it. The service provides its own unique adventure. Calling it "lax" would be generous; it's more like a game of hide-and-seek where only the servers know they're playing. Meanwhile, the bill arrives with pricing so wildly ambitious for the actual portion sizes that you half expect the plate to come with a piece of beachfront real estate. Camarillo has plenty of great dining, but at this point, you might genuinely get a hotter soup, a crisper salad, and a far more reliable seafood experience from a box of Gorton's fish sticks in your own freezer. Save your wallet and your evening--there are simply far better options out there.
