After a "check-up" at my car dealership, the dealership listed a number of "immediate concerns" that needed to be address and would have cost a pretty penny (basically, oil change, tire rotation, wheel alignment & balancing). Hesitant to just sign on, I took my car to Dave's to confirm that these concerns were indeed immediate and would indeed cost the amount that the dealership estimated. Gave them a call to give the list of "needed services" based on my car dealership, and they were great about fitting me in quickly. Also, am going on a hefty road trip soon, so they added a free trip check. After the trip check and basic inspection, they did identify that there was a slight alignment issue. The other things didn't need to be address, but I decided to just go for it because of the trip, low cost, and it'd honestly have to be done at some point anyway. What I really appreciate was the fact that they communicated these things with me, showed me numbers that caused the "issue", gave me a reasonable price and let me make the decision for myself. So that's kind of odd. It's obvious that the mechanics don't drive the car after they've repaired it because that light was shining in my face the whole way back home and I don't see how they could've missed it. They also tried to sell me a bunch of other repairs and serviced, which were probably not needed. (I'm on a very limited budget). I appreciated the info and simply turned down those other tasks which I could either do myself or postpone for another time. I think the lesson learned is if you have an old car and you're on a limited budget (and aren't we all) watch out for suggested repairs which are simply based on the estimated age of the item or a maintenance schedule, and not an actual malfunction. I've attached the email chain in four pictures. As you can see in there, I explicitly told the technician that the car was brought in for oil pressure problems, and the oil pressure light was coming on. Also, I should add that since I received the car back the engine is running smoothly, but not a single drop of oil has dripped off the engine so I'm pretty sure there's no oil leak. In any case, a small leak would not prevent me from driving the car however, the oil light being on all the time would prevent me from driving it, and I don't think the car should've been handed back to me in that condition.

I have no way of knowing whether the…read moreservice was actually performed, because the person at the counter told me afterward that I needed a new A/C compressor and a new condenser. They also claimed there was a leak in the system and that these parts needed to be replaced yet they did not recommend any diagnostic procedure to pinpoint the root cause. He is assuming that it needed to be replaced without performing any technical, visual, or mechanical diagnostic procedures. He recommended all of this while still sitting at his chair. The cost will be at 2264.77 Despite telling me the compressor was not working and the condenser was leaking; they still charged me for the refrigerant recharge. It makes no sense to charge a system with refrigerant if you believe the compressor is not functioning or the condenser is leaking. Major issues should be addressed before adding refrigerant. I paid the $311.22, but I have serious doubts that the service was actually performed. I am deeply disappointed. In my view, the way this business operates is unethical, and practices like this will cause them to lose credibility.

The whole experience felt very interactive and customer-focused. I have three vehicles, and one belongs to my son, who is a brand-new driver. Although, there are tool marks on my oil cap now and I cannot take it off anymore. Take 5 is the last place to have touched it several times. Jetta - coolant flush and oil change. 2 weeks later, radiator is cracked and it's burning oil quickly. Maybe the radiator was ready to give up, but the timing was unfortunate. I looked back, and they also put the wrong oil (0w20) in the Jetta (requires 5w30 or 5w40). I don't know if it was German quality spec either. I have low confidence in the quality of service here. For JUST oil changes you might be fine, especially with a simple car, but they charge a lot of money for service. I'll probably go to the automotive center across the street or jiffy lube from now on.
