Terrible service and attitude. I made an appointment online and received an email confirming my appointment. I show up 10 minutes before my appointment time and was told that their 2pm appointment was already there and They had no appointment for me. I told them I got an email confirming my appointment. They told me that they often change appointment times and he asked me if I checked my emails. I told him I did not receive any appointment change emails. Then he wanted me to show him my email showing I had an appointment. My phone was nearly dead and I didn't feel it was my responsibility to prove to him that I had an appointment. I had a bad battery and Barry and his guys were all awesome. They replaced it but the new battery didn't hold, so they did every kind of diagnostic they possibly could while replacing it with a 2nd new battery. Once it was in, they determined something outside of their scope must be causing another issue. Only, and only then, did they recommend a full diagnostic. So I paid for a full diagnostic at a very reasonable price. Being that the car is a hybrid, they had their hybrid guy working on it. It took some time but it was worth waiting for. These guys didn't recommend anything that wasn't absolutely necessary. I commend this shop on their customer service. They also provided me several rides home over several days of these repairs. This auto repair shop is so great! I've been to several around the valley and feel as though I've been misguided by mechanics. Barry was super cordial when I initially called him and asked him for information with regards to an oil change. I dropped my car off and they called to update my on my time. I arrived to pick my car up and was greeted by a friendly employee and Barry. It seems like they were super busy but they went out of their way to ensure that I received all the information about my car update and answered all my questions. I went to SunDevil Auto a few weeks ago to get an oil change. It turns out my car needed $2,000+ in repairs. I took the car to two other mechanics and it turns out my car is fine. I do not recommend anyone going to this place!!! They even had the nerve to point out where the repairs were needed by putting my car on the lift. I took a picture of where they said was a leak and part needing replacing. The photo I took proved useful in catching this shop in a huge lie. read more

Worst experience ever here! Had my car towed in as it gave out while driving somewhat a few blocks form there place. Eventually I found out it's just a fuel filter issue from Granite Reef Service Center. Sun Devil Auto wanted to charge me over $700 by charging me 3 times over the price of the parts and labor ((WHAT??!! I told Peire they're Salesman F no!)) I had to involve the Police to mediate the situation and eventually had my car towed to Granite Reef Auto $200 and I was out the door... I'll never go back and deal with this shady place. read more

My car wouldn't start, I had it towed to Sun Devil Auto and they advised me that I would need a new battery cable, this cost $95.00, then I was told that I would be charged $286.00. When I went to pick up my vehicle I was told it would be $310.00. The cable should have cost $ 85.00 and instead I was charged $125.00. My battery needed to be replaced and they attempted to sell me a new one after I informed them that my battery was under warranty and that to get it replaced would be free! Sun Devil Auto charges too much! Most auto repair shops will include the diagnostic charge into the cost of the repair! I will never go to Sun Devil Auto again, and I will tell everyone that they are too costly, and try to sell you things you don't need! I would rate them a 0 stars out of 5! read more

I would not recommend going here. The manager is very confrontational and does not stand behind his work. I took my car in to get the plugs, plug wires, and coils replaced due to a mis-fire and when I drove off my car ran worse than when I took it in. I went back and after arguing with the manager about whose fault it was that my car ran worse he finally discovered that the coil was installed on the wrong cylinder. Horrible. Never go here. I dropped my car off at 8 am for an oil change. I was the first car to arrive. I asked how long it would take, they said it would be done before 5 pm. Say what??!!! My fiance was not happy when he found out that I woke up so early on a Saturday, walked home, and still two hours later at 10 am my car had not been touched. We went to get the keys back. Horrible service. Don't waste your time. Obviously this place does not care about their customers. read more

Today I had a limited amount of time to go get an oil change (badly needed considering my schedule as of late, and considering I have to drive to California on Tuesday), and ended up at Sun Devil Auto on McDowell and Hayden. I had called ahead to see if they had available time and was told I could come in and they would squeeze me in to the schedule. Time got away from me and I ended up there around 3:30. Initially the gentleman behind the counter told me that they would not be able to accommodate me today - completely understandable as I had showed up only about an hour or so before they closed for the day. I think he sensed the panic in my voice though as we tried to work out the next best time to bring my car in, and ended up telling me that if I was willing to wait, they would squeeze me in as the last appointment of the day. This was a huge relief for me and I happily waited. In less than an hour I had my oil change completed and was on my way. Everyone at this location was extremely professional and kind, made pleasant conversation and were of the utmost helpfulness. Even the men in the shop, despite the current disgusting monsoon season weather and the task of having to service another vehicle, were all very courteous. Beyond that, the pricing of my service was $25 (oil change, tire pump and the option of a tire rotation if I wished), which is amazing considering I usually go to Jackson's car wash and pay over triple that price for my turbo engine to be serviced. I wish I could remember the names of the gentlemen I interacted with so as to thank them but, suffice it to say, so long as I live in Phoenix, this shop will have my loyalty as a customer. read more

Sun devil auto has always been great, but today was very disappointing. Being that I don't have a second car and work weekdays, it's not the easiest for me to find time for regular car maintenance. They have been very good about working me in in the past, but that was not the case today. They were less then willing to help out and just sent me elsewhere. My first experience with this Sun Devil shop, and more specifically the manager Barry (who still works there), was back in 2007. Upon inspecting my brakes for noises, the mechanic made a slight adjustment to eliminate the noise and sent me on my way without charging. Months later, when extremely old car needed a lot of basic service that a 100,000+ vehicle would need, I took a chance and had everything done at Sun Devil. This included: New pads and rotors - shop selected the premium grade, which have not given me an issue to till this day 30,000 miles later. The extra few bucks spent was definitely worth it. New engine mounts to replace broken ones. Shop suggested to use dealer part instead of an after-market for better fit and quality. Re-manufactured alternator to replace faulty original equipment. Shop suggested to use an after-market instead of dealer part to save money. Full window tinting. After 5+ years, and 30,000 miles, none of these items have had any issue whatsoever. It seems Barry knew exactly what parts to buy from dealer vs. after-market for the best value. Also, all the work was performed in a reasonable amount of time. Sometimes it is hard to grade an auto-repair place immediately driving away, because poor-workmanship problems may not occur until months later. This is a 5-star review 5 years later. This is one of my best auto repair shop experiences ever (compared to say Pep Boys or Midas). read more

Okay so where to begin. Let me tell you all their hustle. Now, I had an A/c problem. I expected to pay around $500. These ripoff artist tried to charge me $2100. So they stated that I needed a lot of parts that I later found out that I truly did not need. They charged me $200 to tell me the issues. So let me start with a compressor. Mine was tested that was the issue. The cost $300 or so and $150 to install. Like I said around $500. I did not need a condenser but I later looked it up and did that too. Just to maintain the unit that was purchased. With everything done and installed total cost $728. So Sun Devil..... read the name people. THE DEVIL. Don't do it to yourself. Ps. Even with what was written.... yes I had the correct place. I can read and comprehend as I can tell you must have not. Got told I need new struts & shocks ($2200 total) as well as new control arm bushings ($750). Called Highline European (recommended by the dealer) and paid $350 for new control arm bushings & $125 for new sway arm bushings (that they hadn't included in the $750) - total $475. We have been taking our family vehicles to the Sun Devil Auto in East Mesa consistently for over 20 years. From minor to major repairs and maintenance, we can always count on them to take care of us. We've seen staff come and go and the place move and expand but the service and reliability has been nothing short of fantastic, trustworthy and consistent. Did I mention we've been going to them for over 20 years!? Even after moving out of the area I personally still take the longer drive to get any repairs and/or maintenance done at the Power and Mckellips location. After my experience here, I will not be taking my car to this location ever again. I almost paid about $600 for one wheel barring replacement. I asked Anthony multiple times "Is this just for the left side." He said yes. I put down $200 and said I would pay the rest after the car was done. I wanted to make sure $600 for one thing sounded correct. I have no knowledge on cars, but google and asking others can go a long way. After speaking to multiple people they said I need to get my money back immediately and don't let them do anything to my car and leave. After talking to Anthony and asking for a refund, he said he made a mistake and that $600 is way off for what needed to be done to my car, he corrected this by now saying it will be $380. At this point I just wanted to get my refund and get out of there. No problem, they gave my money back right away. I get misunderstandings happen. But I almost paid $600 for ONE WHEEL BEARING replacement. That service is half that price. You guys tried to SCAM ME. I went somewhere else and for less amount of money, I got my wheel bearing replaced, my brakes fixed, and a free oil change for under $500. On top of everything, when I got my car back from Sun Devil, my drivers seat was completely stained with oil and reeked of oil as well. DO NOT COME HERE!! read more

Friendly staff but these guys ended up charging me over $100 more than the "out the door" price i was quoted over the phone. They left grease all over my seat. They had to dismantle a custom built center console to access the problem area and they reassembled it in such a hurry that it is now permanently crooked. Overall sloppy service. read more

Do not spend your time or money here, please. I showed up for my appointment and as I sat in the waiting area I overheard them calling multiple customers telling them they would need to keep their car over the weekend (3 days). I even thought to myself that I should go somewhere else because they are clearly overbooked and I don't want to get stuck without a car for the weekend. Low and behold, they call me later telling me they needed to keep my car for the weekend. They had every opportunity to let me know that they could not finish my car that day. they most certainly knew this would happen because they had been calling people earlier. As I was on the phone with them, I let the guy know that they should have told me they wouldn't have my car done. The gentleman on the phone cut me off multiple times. I asked to speak with the manager and HE cut me off multiple times. I could not get a word in with these guys. As the customer, I wanted them to know that they are clearly putting a lot of people out, I heard it first hand. when they know they cannot handle the work load, they should let customers know that the service will take multiple days. This was not "out of their control" at all. Extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and down right rude. There are plenty of great shops in the area with respectful and professional people, go there. read more

I went in for a quick routine oil change (not at my normal mechanics) and the guy adamantly told me my 1999 Honda Accord needed 5W-20 oil. THE CAR HAS NEVER TAKEN 5W-20 BECAUSE WE LIVE IN THE DESERT. 5W-20 is for cold climates. I swore up and down that was the first time I had heard my car need 5W-20 and the guy printed out some garbage fact sheet allegedly proving that I didn't know what I was talking about. In all honesty, I feel like that because I am a woman, I was fed some garbage because when I my car was finished, they told me that I needed new break pads, my rotors machined, and the list goes on. I took my car to my regular mechanic and he said that these guys flat out lied to me. And the kicker is that Sun Devil would have had to taken my wheels off and run all sorts of diagnostics in order to give me actual evidence that my car needed the items that were listed. My recommendations: if you're a woman, DON'T GO THERE! These mechanics are the type that give the whole mechanic industry a bad name. They don't deserve any stars, but I cannot continue otherwise. But seriously, they get no stars. read more

I usually get my oil changed here, so when my car started acting funny, I knew there was no where else I would go. Took it in, and was told the price would be $750 for fixing leaks in my A/C and replacing my rear wheel cylinder, drum and brake pads. The A/C was necessary so I had them just go ahead and fix that for about $200. Meanwhile, I had my car checked out elsewhere for a second opinion. Not only do I not need to replace the cylinder or drum, my brake pads still have about 1500 miles on them. I told them to just go ahead and change those, but I need to know the cost. With labor and parts, only $150. Sun Devil was going to charge me $520 for a less than $200 job. SERIOUSLY. Oil changes are great, but I will never go there again for big jobs. They completely took advantage of me and I will not be giving them my money ever again. read more

Quite bluntly, I feel I've been screwed the least here. So why did I give five stars? Because I can ask questions about the repairs they completed or suggested and the technicians give me straightforward and honest answers. And if I'm not entirely convinced a repair is as urgent as it sounds, I keep asking questions and the technicians work with me. My experience at Sun Devil Auto has been the most positive than at other chains, which is why I use Sun Devil Auto exclusively. If you shop around for the lowest price like I used to, the other guys will get the hint that you might be a one-time customer and will shove unnecessary flushes and other stuff in your face and sometimes you'll bite. I keep track of my car's maintenance history and noticed that the other guys usually pushed "recommendations" for things that I had just done elsewhere. This sort of thing tended to happen at places where they didn't know my car's maintenance history. Sun Devil Auto knows my car history because I've been going there for 3 years and I value and trust their recommendations. I'm aware that my car needs many things done, but Sun Devil Auto helps me figure out what things are more critical. Besides, Sun Devil Auto has reasonable prices, everybody there is courteous, their hours are great for people with busy schedules and they can offer you a ride to work/school/home if you need it. They also have discounts online. I asked for a discount the last time I was in and they gave me $140 off my bill. I don't think I'll ever try another place that's not Sun Devil Auto. I'm not entirely sure why the average rating isn't as high as it should be. But anyway, it seems like being loyal to Sun Devil Auto has paid off for me. My brother also goes here, after I suggested it to him. I would be so mad if he went somewhere else. read more

The only reason I gave them a 1/5 is because they did somewhat attend you as fast as they could in the front. When I talked over the phone with them initially, they seemed very attentive and nice. When I got there an hour and a half before they closed, they seemed attentive and ready to seal the deal. They were very quick with taking a look at my car for the free inspection. Once I got the price, the labor charge seemed way too high. I decided to go ahead with it because they seemed very attentive, I was running out of time, and it was half a mile down the road from me. When I went to go get my car at about 10:30 the next morning, it still wasn't ready. For some strange reason, they were trying to get me to pay even higher prices than I had originally agreed to the day before. I don't even know where that was coming from. Instead of stopping right there and letting me pay for what I had agreed, they slowly kept decreasing the price, still higher than what I agreed. That wasted about 20 minutes and I felt very pressured because the guy kept bringing up the same thing over and over. After I rejected the other prices, the guy at the front seemed very agitated. I'm not sure if he was stressing out or he got upset over me not agreeing. It was a very awkward situation. Finally, once it was all paid for, I still had to wait another hour. SHORT VERSION: 1. Price too high knowing I was on a tight budget as a college student. 2. Still tried to get me to pay more than a price I agreed to originally, wasted 20 minutes doing that. 3. Took way too long to do. 4. Decent customer service. read more

Do NOT get transmission work here!! Just 2 years ago I had a "complete" rebuild ($2500) done "here" (I use that term loosely as they outsource their tranny work). Came with the 2 year/24k warranty, sure. I passed my mileage marker a few months ago and my 2 year mark only weeks ago. My transmission is completely out again! New shop out-of-state says they didn't do anything to the valve body which caused my torque converter to go out. Over-priced and patch job work. Thanks Sun Devil, I always wanted TWO rebuilds on my transmission. What a joke read more
