I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Sun Devil Auto. In 2019, I paid for new brakes that included a lifetime warranty, which was explained to me as covering brake replacements indefinitely, with only service costs required. Now that I am due for another brake replacement, I have been informed that due to a system change, their records only go back to 2021. As a result, my prior service history--including the warranty associated with my brakes--can no longer be located. This effectively prevents me from utilizing a warranty that I was promised and paid for. I have been a loyal customer for years, trusting Sun Devil Auto with my vehicle maintenance and recommending them to friends and family. Unfortunately, this situation has significantly impacted my confidence in their business practices. As a result, I will no longer be returning for future services. read more

My vehicle has been fixed here twice now. The first time was a few months ago. I broke down driving home from work. I had to have it towed. My serpentine belt broke and took out my water pump and several other things. Colton is great. He explains everything & gives you the quote. They had it a few days while they waited for parts to come in. I grieve a 2006 Hummer H3 so it can the difficult to find parts sometimes. This time time I thought my power steering was going out. The only place I wanted to take it was here. I've received excellent customer service both times. They replaced my power steering pump. I dropped it off before work, and it was ready early afternoon! My car broke down! And I asked Siri to "find me the nearest car repair place" and gave me Sun Devil Auto less than a mile from where I had parked my car waiting for AAA. First I asked them if they did repairs on my make and model. And when I described the problem...(Wayne, I believe) identifed possibility of the problem. When AAA (finally) took my vehicle to SunDevil, I was met with a friendly person who took my information, after describing what happened, to start the process of getting me back on the road. It took them about an hour or so to figure what happened and tell me what's necessary to get me going same day. What I really liked is that they took "walk ins" cause they are/were busy...every bay had a car. Granted my car had the decency to breakdown before noon...so that helped. Overall the repair, did it take longer than I expected but really feel like they did the best they could do for a "walk-in" Meanwhile, I waited in their comfortable waiting area; saw them interact with customers (via phone or in person) that mostly appreciated the service they provided. That said they had to deal with some random people that had my eyes rolling...let's just say people can be mean...and this team dealt with it as best as possible. Lastly, the lobby has "amenities" like a Keurig coffee maker, water dispenser, pop corn maker, a little table for the kiddies, vending machine AND massive and gentle black lab. After unexpectedly spent a lot of my day here; I thought if they were in my home town they'd be my go to place for my cars. read more

I took my Lexus here for work on a/c system. When I picked up the car it drove differently. Like no shocks. Went back and was told it was because it was on the lift. Next day I had to drive to Prescott, scariest 2 hours ever in a car. Lexus dealership fixed it. $2900 later, and the rest of the work Sun Devil(Wes) told me was needed was not. They are usually able to get me in for maintenance appointments within 1-2 days and they work very efficiently to get my car done quickly, without sacrificing the quality of work. They are always very transparent when they find other issues and let me know what I should take care of right away and what can wait until the next service. My experience was not a good experience. It was a sloppy unprofessional team who treated me like a number. I got the feeling that they were trying to scam me from the beginning. All I wanted them to do is just fix my wheel alignment and when I got my car back several days later, I still could feel vibrations in my car that they said would be gone altogether. I paid them over $2000 to fix my ac years ago, got the car back and it worked for a couple days. Then under warranty went back to have them look at it. Was told the AC compressor wasn't put on properly and they would only charge me for the flush and refill... then the dude got upset I said I wasn't paying for their mistake. The AC stopped working again after 2 visits, I still to this day have an issue that's outside their warranty time and I just don't want to put more time and money then the worth of the car. I needed an oil change and don't live in this area. My kids were at camp down the street and I sought out to find somewhere local. Google told me to try these guys and they got me an appt for the next morning. Took about 45 minutes, they didn't try to upsell me, and I supported a local small business! Go here instead of the big name Jiffy Lubes! Spacious waiting room, kid's table, fridge, Keurig coffee drinks, microwave, and right next to a Freddy's and Salad and Go for a bite to eat. Will definitely be returning for future oil changes. In fact, I'm bringing my other car in tomorrow for the same treatment. read more

I would never recommend this place. I called Tuesday morning explained issue asked for worse case scenario so I could plan accordingly told me 1/2 day -2/3 a day by 2 different people and we would have initial review done so I drop it off Tuesday at 9am. Checked in 2-3pm on Tuesday guy on phone says nothing has been looked at yet. Ok cool I noticed they were busy when I dropped it off I finish my day. So Wednesday comes I'm busy at work I finish my meetings it's about 11am I call them, you now have had my car over 24 hours and I haven't heard anything. David, and all his sass, tries to tell me I have an "attitude" as I'm trying to understand why they still haven't done the basic initial review which he himself, David, said should be done by eod Tuesday. You would think that was the end. No he calls back at 2pm instantly sassy talking about they deserve respect cause they doing me a "favor" by looking at the car free. 1st off it's not me having an attitude when someone sets an expectation they can't fulfill, it's called frustration. 2nd you're not doing anyone a favor that's your job! And lastly when someone specifically asks for worse case scenario try to be more transparent you could have said 5 days and I wouldn't have called for 5 days and I would have done what I needed on my end to prepare. Part of your job is customer service so once you didn't satisfy the expectations YOU set than proceeded to call with sassy attitude as a grown man you could of told me it cost $1 to fix and I still wouldn't of trusted you with my vehicle. I made an appointment online for next day. They called me within ten minutes to say I didn't need an appointment that I could just drop it off. The next morning, I dropped it off at 7:30 a.m. and they said they'd get to it later that morning or early afternoon. I called at 4:00pm and they said that nothing had been done with it and they don't know why. So I picked up my car and had it down somewhere else the next day. I called around for quotes on motormounts for my jeep patriot. The prices were close everywhere I called. Sun Devil was the only one open on Saturday. I walked in without an appointment and they were able to assess the issue, get the parts and have it done by three O'clock. They did not make any attempt to upsell me on things I wasn'tasking for or didn't need. My car drives way better now and the price ended up being less than half of the lowest quote I got over the phone after calling six different shops. I cannot speak highly enough of my experience here. I will never come here again. Ever. I went in just for an oil change and the very next day my car started acting up. I called them and they had me drive the car back in. They said it was coils or spark plugs then asked for $195 for more testing. I went and picked my car back up and when I got home I opened the hood and they didn't even snap the cover in place! It was just sitting there loose on the engine. That's not the first time that has happened either. Worst service and forget customer service. read more

In 2020 I had blown head gasket's on my jeep and was in a very tight spot, (those are extremely expensive to replace/laborious). They worked with me on a solution and the price and got it done, not overpricing me, and were completely honest from beginning to end. Need new shocks for 2014 Ram pickup. Sun devil auto at McClintock and Warner quoted me $2,200 for basic shocks. Shocks for he truck are $400. They wanted to charge $1,800 to install them. 4 bolts total. Do not let this business rip you off. In my opinion businesses like Sun Devil Auto take advantage of unknowing automobile owners. Went to Sun Devil Auto with a rather complex issue on my daughters car. Wayne and team could not have been a better partner in determining what needed to be done (if you do go into the shop, be sure to say hi to Stanley). They took the time, took me out on a test drive to explore the issues then took more time to diagnose and recommend a solution. They kept me incredibly well informed and offered me alternative solutions. NEVER, did I feel pressured or concerned about my decision. The team at Sun Devil is great. I will take my cars here for years to come. They are incredibly fair and professional and while not the cheapest in the Valley, they are the ones I trust to do it right the FIRST time. Noticed my ac stopped working took it to this location was told it was a 4 hour fix they ended up having my car for 2 1/2 days went to get my car yesterday paid 1721.21 my car wouldn't start the ac fix I just paid for was not fixed took them hour and a half to figure the issue said it was a fuse problem then they got my car running ac was cold got up this morning for work to find my ac being the same way it was when I dropped it off to them smfh they are full of bs it's almost as if they tried to fix my old ac compressor and lie and say it's a new one then if u ask for the old parts they say they can't give it to you read more

Since they were bought by a private equity firm their customer service has continued to deteriorate. They're no longer locally owned and it's unfortunate because they used to provide honest and trustworthy service. Their prices are similar to a dealership and their timeliness is just as bad. Dont know what happened after they were bought but service, prices and courtesy was out the window.. Last service, tire rotation which is part of oil change was not done. When asked when I came to pick it up they said they would do that right then. When I complained to corporate they changed the story again about tire tread, which was never said at any time. Requested wipers changed, not done. They did come up with a whole list of service that needed to be done. Filters, air and cabin, way way way overpriced. Radiator service, again way way way over priced. Other service they said needed to be done and gave prices, in checking any other place, much less in price. Its not just the price that bothers me, although it is really really over priced, especially filters, its the attitude. Would not recommend. They are not what they used to be at all.. read more

This business is the real deal! SO trust worthy, efficient and kind. Read below to hear of the horror story I experienced that brought me to find this great shop. I've attached a photo that shows two receipts. Top one is Oasis. I brought my 2014 Terrain in for a simple oil change (first time using this company) when I picked up my car, he told me that my rear shocks were completely blown and oil was leaking profusely. I asked how long he thinks that has been a problem and claimed at least a couple of months due to the amount of leakage. I picked up the car at 5pm and was set to head out of town the very next morning. I asked if this was something I should delay the trip by a day to take care of. He said a week should be fine, to just bring it in when I get back. I was driving my car down to rock point and he assured me the car would be safe to drive down in it's condition. Well .. I got back into town and figured I should call around to verify the price he quoted me of $366.97 was a fair amount for the job. The first shop I called, Sun Devil (2nd receipt shown) asked me to bring the car in for them to further evaluate. He had doubts considering how new the vehicle is and since it's not used for any off-road adventures, other than the occasional rocky point trip. Sun Devil took my car back and did a full evaluation for me. He then walked me out back to allow me to view the car while it was up on a lift. First time ever seeing under a car by the way, so that was pretty neat! Either way, he pointed out the 2 shocks in question. Since several days had past since the oil change with Oasis, there was dried up, dirt covered oil on the shocks. It appears Oasis sprayed oil on the shocks to make it appear there was leaking going on. Sundevil did a thorough inspection of the shocks and assured me there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. My husband recommended I get a 3rd business to look at them just to be safe.. well the 3rd business also assured me nothing was wrong with the shocks. I took my vehicle in for an oil change at the 6750 Bell Rd location. I had taken my other vehicle in a few weeks earlier and there were almost no other patrons there, almost all the bays were empty. I was hesitant to go in the first place because of COVID-19, but on the other hand, I wasn't sure that they might not close up in the near future due to COVID-19 so I didn't think I should put it off, so I took it in. When I went back to pick up my vehicle the service advisor gave me a list of things I might want to have done. I told him I had a long-time mechanic who did all that kind of stuff. His response was "Well, we're not an oil change business", to which I replied, "Does that mean you don't want any of my business?" (as I'm looking at the empty bays). His reply to that, "That's right". So, in this difficult time when so many businesses are closing their doors as their business drops off dramatically, this location apparently doesn't need my business. My patronage (all the repeat visits) doesn't entitle me to polite customer service. According to them, they don't make enough money on an oil change to want me to come back. read more

I had a flat tire and pulled off onto a side road near the shop. Was able to attempt changing the tire myself with a spare but the wheel was completely rusted on after driving from the east coast. My own roadside assistance services came and were unable to help in getting the tire off. When I walked to this shop to ask for assistance, they immediately got someone to walk over with me. Shawn is the one who helped and he was fantastic. After some tool work they were able to get the rusted flat tire off and help me replace the spare. They even had me bring it over to their shop where they did a quick review to make sure they felt it was safe to drive before sending me off. I've been coming to sun devil auto since around 2015 for regular oil change and other car fixes. But I took a 2 years break from 2020 to 2022 when I bought a new car and had my oil change covered by dealer. Recently got my wheel alignment done with them. Dropped my car off at 8AM, was told it would only take 2 hours. Four hours later....no updates from them so I called them and they said they are having trouble aligning the wheels, and would take 2 more hours. 2 and an half hours later....still no updates, so I called them again and was told it would finally be ready after 20 more mins. A 2 hours job turned into a 6 and an half hour job. No apologies from them at all, they just pretending nothing happened when I went to pick up the car. I'm just going to find a new auto shop place. They used to be good, not sure what happened but they are just not the same as before anymore. read more

BEWARE!! This place almost KILLED me. I brought my car here for full inspection and a week later, my whole wheel falls off while I was driving w/ kids in the car! Luckily, no one was hurt but it did $300 worth of damage (had to get a new rim and other things). When I called and asked them if it was possible that they forgot to put my lug-nuts back on, I was told that there was no way. They said that I wouldn't have made it a mile w/ out them. I got my car towed to a different shop to get it fixed and they said that Sun Devil Auto probably put the lug-nuts on by hand but didn't secure them with the drill. I called Sun Devil back and told them what the other shop said and they (Chris, assistant manager) then told me that they didn't take my tire off at all. Really, Chris? This is why people don't trust mechanics. The offered no sentiments, no help and instead just denied everything. It's hard being a woman who knows nothing about cars when there are shops like this that are so dishonest. Me, my daughter and my niece could've been seriously injured or even killed and all I asked was for them to reimburse me. This is unfair and no way to do business. I clearly wouldn't recommend Sun Devil Auto. Go to HTA Motorsports in Mesa instead. Edgar fixed my car within hours with no problem. I can trust him. read more

Brought car in for a $115 diagnostic report to find issue with a rough start. They confidently claimed it was a fuel pump issue which they wanted to charge $800. I got the fuel pump replaced with a brand new one and car still has the same issue. $330 dollars down and car still has the same issue. They wanted to charge again to re-evaluate the problem. I've been going to Sun Devil for about 15 years but never use them for any job over $200 because they have demonstrated many times that they are either untrustworthy or unskilled (sometimes both). I've gone to many locations all over the valley and two weeks ago I went to the Elliot location for an oil change. I always do my oil changes at Sun Devil because the price cannot be beat and they have Valvoline Max Life which I like to run in a few of my vehicles. Also, they include a tire rotation and in depth inspection with each oil change. Oil changes must be a loss for them to do but they make up for it with the inspection which always results in many findings no matter what condition your vehicle is in. And i actually kinda like that because even though 80% of what they say is wrong or totally made up, the other 20% of the time I get a heads up on something that I can take care of at my own place either by myself or at a better shop. Anyways, I told them that my vehicle was vibrating during acceleration and to look for a possible culprit during the inspection. So about 20 minutes later they call me out to the shop to show me their findings/recommendation: A bad wheel bearing and an entire front end suspension rebuild (lower and upper control arms, stabilizer bar, etc). Total quote: $2300. So we are looking at the vehicle and I grab the tire and shake it and there is indeed play and thus the wheel bearing is bad. I don't believe the control arms diagnosis so I ask the mechanic "did you check the U joints?" And he says "yeah, everything else looks great." So I pay for the oil change and get out of there. This past weekend I took the same vehicle to Firestone to have the tire balance checked and while it was on the lift I asked them to check the U joints since I never believed Sun Devil and sure enough the front joint on the rear driveshaft was totally shot: tons of movement and orange dust around the housing (u joints 101). I went home, jacked up the rear end, and removed the driveshaft and the u joint and looking inside the joint there was no grease whatsoever and several broken needle bearings. So $15 later my truck is running smoothly with zero vibrations. So again, the 80/20 rule: they were right about the wheel bearing (which i had replaced for $125 elsewhere) but the $2000+ suspension quote was totally off base and wouldn't have done anything to stop the vibrations. And the most important part being that they lied to my face when I asked if they checked the u joints. What makes the story even sadder is that this vehicle in question is 20 years old, has 216,000 miles, and is worth $500-$1,000. If you're going to try and hustle someone for $2,000 then make sure the car is worth more than that and that they don't know anything about auto repair. It's hard to believe they could be that bad at picking their victims though so that points to the bad mechanics theory. Unscrupulous or Incompetent? The world may never know.
