We are regulars to staying on Tybee but it was our first time at Sundae Cafe. I debated even writing this because We found our new favorite spot and don't want it to get any busier ! Haha. After seeing this place highlighted on Diners, Drive-ins and dives, we knew we had to try it. We came in around 4:30 on a Thursday night with our four small children and four adults. The wait staff was overly accommodating and the entire experience was incredible even amidst the chaos of having four littles dining with us ! The biscuits they brought out to start were the best biscuits I ever had, and were paired with the most delicious peach jam ever. My husband and I split the ribeye special that was topped with fried oysters and had the most delicious mashed potatoes and broccolini served with it. Honestly, one of the best steaks we've ever had and the sides were incredible. My parents split the uptown burger and the triple tail special, they raved about both. Eating out every night on Tybee Island can stump you a bit. Not every place is open every night and you have to be creative sometimes to get away from the fried food. After checking out the reviews for Sundae Cafe we gave it a try. Had no idea DDD had been here but after watching the episode I was determined to try the Down South Grilled Cheese featured on the show. It was amazing. The succotash and Brussels that came with it were superb as well. Hubs had the grilled seafood platter and that too was amazing. A great standby restaurant in Tybee Island. We have been here several times and have always had a great meal. The menu is not extensive and changes throughout the week but there are options for every taste. My wife chose the pecan coated chicken breast with succotash, and mashed potatoes. I had grilled halibut with scallops, crab cake, creamed spinach, and a blue cheese and corn biscuit. Excellent. Not cheap a but worth the special occasion meal. The Sundae Cafe was my last stop before leaving Tybee Island and heading to Savannah, GA. My niece and I found the restaurant on Yelp and the reviews were great. Our server was fantastic! She gave us some tips since it was our first visit. I chose the special for the day which was smoked BBQ topped with fried onions. The BBQ sauce flavor was delicious! Sweet but tangy. The fried onions added a nice crispness to the sandwich. I also had coleslaw which was unlike any I've ever eaten, but it was good. I would highly recommend the pasta salad! It had just the right amount of oil so the pasta was moist, and the seasoning was flavorful. The only downfall to this spot was parking. Be sure to read all the parking signs so you don't get towed. I had my niece go inside and ask where it was appropriate to park so there wouldn't be an issue. The restaurant is in a strip mall which also has a gas station. Aww, man. Decided to stop by after a bridal show for a bite and glad that we did. Now from the outside it looks a little shady, lol. But once you step inside you are pleasantly surprised. My mom.opted for the fried shrimp, which were lightly batter and cooked to perfection! I opted for the lobster mac n cheese and nom, non, nom! They add a scallop on top that was so good I wanted more. But be advised the dish is has a different take and is served with the lobster but in half and grilled on the side. We also had a burger, just delicious, the fried fish platter, so good. We also took two of the desserts home, the banana pudding cheesecake and the chocolate snickers peanut butter pie. Currently they're only doing carry out only so there's an employee at the door taking orders from their limited menu. We ordered a few things and waited about 20 minutes for it to be ready. Everything we had was delicious. The kids had a cheeseburger and chicken tenders... both were great. I had the fried shrimp with Brussels sprouts and fries... super good. Their fries are amazing!! We took a visitor from California over to Tybee today and stopped here for lunch. The food and service were both really good and the menu is very creative. Our table ordered fried shrimp, short rib cheese steak and the shrimp and grits salad. The salad was amazing and could have easily fed all three of us! The croutons were made of breaded and fried crispy grits. They were the hit of the dish as was the unique red pepper vinaigrette dressing. The fried shrimp were cooked to perfection. The cheese steak was tasty with a collard green kimchi but was a bit messy. Definitely worth another visit for dinner next time. This is a small boutique restaurant with a chef's kiss menu, charming ambiance and a fantastically helpful wait staff. We came thinking: seafood, and we split a decision. Hubs went for the Snapper with a delicious burre blanc sauce, and I had the beef filet with a cherry coke demi glacé, topped with a pimento cheese. It did not disappoint- far exceeded our expectations on every level. We are going to make one more visit before we leave town it's that good and worth the visit. Make a rez, it fills up fast. We always end our Tybee vacations with a trip to this special place. The food and service are always exceeding expectations. Sundae cafe will always have a special place in my heart because my grandson first tried eating fish here. It was so delicious that now he's sold on fish dinners and broccolini. I had lunch, not dinner, here and from the other reviews it seems dinner is the main attraction here. That said, I was very impressed with my lunch: I ordered their fried shrimp on the idea it would be at the least a "safe" bet but indeed was the best fried shrimp I've yet had in Savannah or the region. Hands down. It came with hush puppies (alas, not the best I've had in the region) and a decent cole slaw. The exterior as others have noted is a very plain, small, strip mall but the interior is nice enough and I sat up at the bar and was greeted by a prompt and helpful bartender. I didn't have anything more than iced tea to drink, but they seem to have a well-appointed bar. I am sure other dishes are just as worthwhile but I would really, seriously, recommend coming here for fried shrimp instead of one of several places that tout this dish as a speciality. The breading was very delicate, had some black pepper in it, and the shrimp were beyond any doubt fresh and local. As an aside, there is a small bakery in the small strip mall and it has great donuts and pastries, too. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. We ate there last night and realized that we live too close not to eat there more. Everything I ate was incredible, the Brussel sprouts will convert you if you haven't already been converted over to loving this veggie. The blue cheese bread pudding (much like their seafood cheesecake) is insane and unexpected, I mean savory bread pudding, more please. I could go on and on. My husbands meatloaf... so incredible. Not worth it for the price point. We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner and had been looking forward to it all week. When we arrived, we were led to a table in the middle of two large parties. When I asked if we could have the open booth that was more off to the side, the hostess gave me a lengthy explanation of their reservation system and said it was unavailable because the party coming after us would be larger and unable to sit at the table we were given. The booth sat empty for 30 minutes, and then another couple was shown to the booth. Meanwhile, a man's butt was literally an inch away from my plate, and two other men had a very loud conversation over the top of my head. My husband and I couldn't hear each other and ate our dinner mostly in silence or shouting, "Huh?" at each other. As for the food, we enjoyed the hush puppies, grilled fish, and fried oysters. The ahi was full of connective tissue that made it tough to swallow. The flavors were good, but for spending $100+ for two of us, I was really disappointed by the level of service and care. We had the skillet corn bread chicken and waffle and wanted to be sure we save room for dinner so we ended up eating all the chicken off the waffle! I was served an Exquisite meal this friday night at the Sundae cafe. This restaurant has been a personal favorite of mine for years. They offer an amazing lunch but I usually reserve a visit for a birthday or a special occasion because of how nice the place is. On this particular occasion, I opted to dine in because another local restaurant was booked all night. I arrived 20 minutes before closing but they were still able to accomadate me with marked hospitality. Setting- "Don't judge a book by it's cover." The outside leaves plenty to be desired as it is crammed into a prosaic gas station parking lot. The inside however is anything but pedestrian. Designed to be an upscale experience you can expect table cloths and candles with setting sensitive art work that gives this place just the right touch. This is the type of place people dress up for. Food- Unmatched quality. Upon sitting down, I was greeted with warm cornbread muffins and marmalade served in a charming little cast iron skillet. The muffins were fluffy, warm, and the perfect start to what would be a great meal. Sundae cafe's menu offered an array of Cocktails, draft and bottled bears, and wine. On the food side they offered fresh seafood, Chicken, and steak dishes. I was looking for a steak and they are currently serving two cuts: NY strip and fillet. I opted for the special coffee rubbed NY strip medium rare. I also wanted to make a surf and turf kind of thing so I added a side of fried shrimp for $12. The shrimp by the way were so good they almost stole the show from the steak. Extremly fresh and tender with the crust fried to a crispy golden perfection. They were fried very cleanly without being greasy or oily at all. Seasoned perfectly and paired with the perfect hommade remoulade and cocktail sauce. My steak was cooked perfectly medium well and was seasoned expertly. I loved biting into the steak and getting subtle hints of salt and coffee which really work to wake up your palate. My steak was served on top of what seemed to be creamed cauliflower and alongside steamed broccolini and heirloom cauliflower. All of the sides were excellent. What really shined through though was the quality of the steak. It was tender, flavorfull, and succulent. Service: Hospitable and Helpful. My server Elizabeth did an excellent job. You can always tell an excellent server by how they react to the last table of the night. While I might of been the last customer of the night--I feel that I could have very well been the first as nothing was left out or rushed on my behalf. She even suggested dessert which I indulged in. The chocolate spoon cake was wonderful. It tasted like fudge cake only not as dense but just as rich. In addition to bringing out the cake she also put a resees's garnish on top since she knew I was torn between ordering the resees's pie or the chocolate cake. Final thoughts: Top Teir Restaurant This is a great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Probably an awesome date night spot for that special someone.
