Super dry tasteless biscuit and overcooked egg
    Lindsey M.

I think I may have ordered wrong and I'm sure there are better things here but I got a cheddar biscuit with egg. The biscuit has a weird after taste and is tasteless and dry. The egg is overcooked with a hard crust on it

Cute spot. Parking in the back. Clever name. Walkable location. Great pastries. Small inside space. Seating outside

Must try: Breakfast Sandwiches with Cheddar Biscuit! Why: Love their Cheddar Biscuits! Toasted outside with a nice crunch and fluffy inside. I usually get egg, cheese and avocado or bacon. Large filling breakfast sandwich! I also like their Iced Dirty Chai or Iced Lattes. They have various milk options like Oat. At their Plaza Midwood location they have jam/jelly, which I love spreading on their cheddar biscuit! Notes: Friendly and helpful staff! Many yummy pastries and treats available too in display with vegan options. Good amount of table seating indoors and a few tables outdoors. Cute, clean and spacious location on East Blvd. I try and visit this bakery every time I visit Charlotte!

    Almond croissant and pistachio latte

Came the other day after I was loving the Noda location. Was underwhelmed by the almond croissant--it wasn't very flakey and did not have much filling. The other croissants also looked underwhelming. Not sure if it was an off day or if they put out old pastries. Will stick to the other locations!

Avocado Melt and Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich

Line was super long when we arrived at around 11am on a Saturday. Got the Avocado Melt sandwich, Egg, Spinach, and Tomato on Cheddar Biscuit, Seasonal Coffee with almond milk, and a warmed croissant. Avocado melt sandwich was served super hot and tasty - melty cheese, veggies, and crispy sourdough made for a good bite. The egg cheddar biscuit was okay - biscuit was good but it could have used sauce. The coffee was pretty good. The croissant was served warm and was flaky and buttery - loved bites of the croissant with sips of coffee. Overall enjoyed our experience and this location is in the perfect spot for walking around and enjoying the neighborhood.

It was pretty busy, but we spent more than an hour on what should've been a 20 minute stop. We got to the front of the line and they were out of so many items and were not flexible at all with any order adjustments (I get the annoyance but y'all really didn't have our first, second or third choices). We waited for so long, even for basic drip coffee. And the system for picking up orders was confusing and inefficient. They don't even have carafes of milks for coffee. Finally, my food order was wrong. After EVERYTHING. the food was fine, to be fair. However, it was not worth the wait.

LOVE! Was so happy I stopped through. Was showing a friend around Charlotte and wanted to treat her out for some sweets. She has celiacs so it was a bit of a struggle to find somewhere close by (or even in the area) that had gluten-free options. We were walking around south end when we searched for Sunflour Baking Co. It's been on my list to visit and so glad it was within walking distance and they mentioned GF options. And omg, soooo worth it. I still think about the GF cheesecake. My friend LOVED it. She loaded up on treats before she left because she enjoyed it so much. So glad Charlotte has bakeries that are catering to folks with dietary restrictions. Love the inclusivity and the vibes at this location were on point. We got there near closing time and we weren't rushed. We got to enjoy our treats and people watch by the window. Will definitely come back and load up when I visit my friend.

I stopped by this morning and my eyes were treated to a bunch of tasty goodness. Cookies, cinnamon rolls, pastries and other things looking yummy. They also have breakfast sandwiches and breakfast beverages you can order as well. It was a little hard to see this place from the street but I'm certainly glad I did. Parking was no problem as they have parking on the side and in the back lot. I went for the cinnamon roll for breakfast and 2 cookies for a later treat. The cinnamon roll alone was enough to give 5 stars. Super glad I don't live near here or I'm sure I'd be a regular. However, I can say without hesitation I'll be back.

Cute little bakery in Dilworth....no frills but great food and service. Just loved the baked goods smell when you walk in. Order at the counter then wait for your order to be called kinda place. You can eat in , outside or pick up to go. Great breakfast menu, amazing croissants, muffins, and big huge cinnamon rolls. I got the English muffin, which isn't like your grocery store type. This was thick and spongy , hot and chewy. Carb lovers dream! Also on the table we had, the avocado panini, on their delicious sunflower grain bread. Sliced avocado, goat cheese, walnut pesto and tomatoes and spinach. Served warm, veggie lovers favorites apparently! Was really good according to the empty wrapper at the end! The bacon, egg and cheese on a English muffin was also a favorite. They don't skimp on anything here. You get your moneys worth. The coffees were also really good and strong. Had the cappuccino, just nice cup of hot caffeine and really good steamed frothy foam. Really nice homey vibe inside. This place was hustling on a Sunday Mother's Day morning. But they did an awesome job, we need one of these in Winston! Need to come back and try the sweet treats !

So cute in here. The cashier was so friendly. And the roll was the perfect amount of sweet.

I ordered the "customer favorite": egg-sausage-cheese biscuit (not at all French I'll admit). It was quite nice with a light fresh biscuit cheddar and better than average sausage patty. I took away a classic croissant, chocolate croissant and fresh fruit tart. All of these were excellent. I definitely recommend.

Review for Amélie's French Bakery & Café…read more As a transplant from the West Coast--specifically San Francisco, where high-quality bakeries and true French pâtisseries are plentiful--I was genuinely excited to try Amélie's after moving to Charlotte. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing, and after giving it more than one chance, it's simply not a place I plan to return to. The concept feels more like a themed destination than a serious bakery. The interior is whimsical and eye-catching, with decorative elements like a faux Eiffel Tower, which clearly appeals to visitors looking for a fun atmosphere. However, if you've spent time in authentic French cafés or bistros, you know the real charm is understated elegance--wood, mirrors, tile, and craftsmanship. This felt more theatrical than authentic. Where it fell short for me was the food. For a place calling itself a French bakery and pâtisserie, the absence of classic laminated pastries was surprising. I was expecting staples like Napoleons, kouign-amann, or beautifully executed croissants. What I found instead were pastries that looked average and lacked the refinement and technique you'd expect from a true pâtisserie. On my visits, I tried: * A leek soup that was supposed to be cream-based but tasted thin and under-seasoned--more like warm vegetable water than a properly developed soup. * A baguette sandwich with fig, Brie, and apple that sounded promising but was poorly executed. The bread was overly hard, and the balance of ingredients felt off, making the sandwich less enjoyable than expected. I gave Amélie's two chances, hoping the second visit would change my impression. It didn't. To be fair, the café clearly has a loyal following and works well as a social or casual gathering spot. But if you're specifically looking for high-quality French pastries or refined bakery craftsmanship, there are stronger options in the Charlotte area. Personally, I'd recommend: * Renaissance Patisserie for more traditional European-style pastries * Paris Baguette at Rea Farms for consistency and better execution * Or trusted local favorites closer to home Bottom line: Fun atmosphere, but the food didn't meet expectations for a French bakery. After multiple visits, it's a pass for me.

The atmosphere was nice, it has the "work on your laptop or catch up with friends" cafe vibe. Somewhere you can hang for several hours and sip and coffee as you work/talk. I don't think I was the target demographic for this cafe sadly. I ordered a BE&C on a bagel. I originally had planned to go to a more "bagel-focused" shop, but they were closed. That's where I feel I was not the target demographic; I was looking to just order a bagel on my morning commute. I should have noticed the atmosphere/vibe of the cafe and realized that this was not going to be fast. It ended up taking over 30 minutes from the time I paid to the time I got my food (genuinely, I looked at the time my credit card was swiped and compared it to the time it was when I got my food). Now, I will say, if I had ordered coffee and brought a book, the wait probably wouldn't have been too much of a bother. The staff was really friendly, and the bathrooms were also very clean! The bagel was not my favorite bagel, but it was on par for a non-bagel-focused coffee shop. It wasn't bad by any means, but I would not order it if you were wanting "real" bagel. Edit: owner made a good point regarding the wait and was correct that I did not notice the disclaimer regarding the wait! I updated the rating to reflect my newer perspective.

They sell out quickly, so the move is to get there early and grab one while it's still warm. Trust me, if you're going to get one, get two. The café sits inside the lobby level of the Charlotte Marriott City Center, which makes it easy to access if you're already walking around Uptown. If you're doing a quick drive-by, just be friendly with the valet--tip them and pop inside to grab your coffee and pastry. They offer a full coffee program with plenty of alternative milk options (oat milk is my current go-to). I also appreciate the little details like turbinado sugar, bamboo stir sticks, and recyclable cups, which give the place a sustainable touch. The space itself is really stylish and comfortable. There's even a small amphitheater-style seating area, making it a cool spot to hang out, meet friends, or get some work done for a while. Insider tip: Go early for the cronuts--they disappear fast. That search led me to Vicente in South End, and I'm happy to say it absolutely earned its spot on my list. The kouign-amann here was slightly lighter and a bit less dense and buttery than the ones I remember from the Bay Area, but it still hit all the right notes--caramelized edges, flaky layers, and just enough indulgence to satisfy the craving. When you find one in Charlotte, you take note. I also ordered a frangipane (marzipan) croissant, which is always one of my go-to pastries when it's done well. This one delivered--rich, nutty, and comforting without being overly sweet. I'm not much of a chocolate pastry person, so I tend to gravitate toward custard- or almond-filled items, and this bakery clearly understands how to execute those classics. The space itself is beautiful--clean glass storefront, modern aesthetic, and a welcoming feel from the moment you walk in. It's attached to a large apartment complex with underground parking, which makes it surprisingly easy to access. Very walkable, very convenient, and refreshingly low-stress compared to some of the trendier spots. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices felt reasonable for the quality. One small wish: I'd love to see a late-day pastry special or a loyalty program. I'm the kind of regular who will absolutely show up more often if there's an incentive--and let's be honest, pastries are hard to resist when there's a little nudge. I'll definitely be back, especially if they start experimenting with more creative flavors. A kouign-amann with poached fruit--nectarine, mango, or passionfruit--would have me running back through the door. And candidly, I'm grateful Charlotte's pastry scene is still growing. It means there's room for bakeries like this to shine and keep raising the bar. As someone who loves good food, I'm always rooting for local bakers and artisans to succeed. Bottom line: A beautiful neighborhood bakery with solid execution, friendly service, and a kouign-amann worth the trip. I'll be back--and I'm keeping an eye on that pastry case.
