This place seemed nice and cozy. The rain outside prevented us from sitting on the patio but we made it work by pulling together two tables in the narrow hallway. I ordered a waffle with fruit and whipped cream and a peppermint hot chocolate. The hot chocolate tasted good but was nothing special. My waffle arrived with no fruit or whipped cream. It sat only because they only give you one waffle for over 8 dollars with the toppings. A little pricey for something so simple. They did correct this mistake when I brought it back up to the counter. The other three with me enjoyed their food. If you are going be prepared for a pricey coffee shop. read more

My husband and I had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. The stars I did give were for the fabulous back patio they have. It really is a great atmosphere on a sunny day. The food however, not so great. My husband had the pedestrian breakfast sandwich which was SO boring! For $7, plain sourdough bread, an egg, a few slices of ham and a slice of cheese. Not to mention it was tiny. They were out of most of their bagels by 10:30am, which was a bummer. On a positive note, they do have massive mimosas. They are spendy though, $10. Their ham and egg breakfast sandwich sounds pedestrian but tastes like an American version of a Croque Madame and is a must-order. The Peruvian omelette with beans and tortilla is savory and well seasoned to start the day. And this is minor but their fruit salad is not crammed with unripe melon chunks, it's a great combination of sweet and ripe blueberries, strawberries and bananas. I've been here both times I've been in Sonoma. Two years ago a few of us walked in for brunch as we were staying around the corner for a wedding in the area. We loved it. This time (Saturday) we were a group of 9 and had planned to walk-in to El Dorado Kitchen but alas, they were closed. Their loss! We moseyed on over to Sunflower, hungry after having done a ferry, limo with champagne and a tasting at Domaine Carneros that morning. I had the grilled cheese with ham - YUM. We went here hoping for a nice meal outside in the great weather. We got our order completely messed up and the topper? A pigeon on the lovely sun cover pooped on my friend. We ordered 3 sandwiches, a bread pudding, a soda and it all ended up being about $40. I had asked the girl behind the counter what kind of bread pudding they had (as it was on the menu and in clear view of the cash register) and she told me she didn't know, that it was just bread pudding and it was good. I asked what kind of flavor it had and she said she didn't know that it was plain and it might have some cinnamon in it but it came with chocolate sauce and ice cream. All three sandwiches were made incorrectly- mine and my daughter's had mayo (we asked for none), and mine clearly had had the pesto but it had been scraped off, and my friend's sandwich was suppose to have two cheeses but only had one on it. I had to send my sandwich back when it arrived with mayo but my daughter was so hungry I just tried to scrape off the mayo for her. When my sandwich came back it was clear they had put pesto on it and then scraped it off so I couldn't share it with my son. What I did eat was totally bland. My chicken was very dull- it was suppose to be lemon but I couldn't taste any lemon on it at all. The bread pudding was huge but dried out and pretty boring- in fact we didn't even finish it. The patio was lovely but not really baby safe- the lip on the fountain is too low for children to be around. It was cool and very nice with flowers but with the pigeons flying around were not very pleasant and obviously getting pooped on pretty much made for the worst eating experience. read more

You can either choose to sit outside with a view of the Sonoma Plaza and watch all the people walking by or you pick a spot inside or - my recommedation - walk through the cafe and grab a spot on the patio - it's wonderful! They have a wine bar (Happy Hour daily from 4pm to 6pm) with a great wine list and super prices. The food is mainly sandwiches, salads, small plates and stuff from the grill...and it's amazingly good. I had dinner there and also breakfast (they have a wide choice of breakfast sandwiches, omlettes, pastries, etc...) - all was super tasty and fresh - made from scratch! Don't let the line in front discourage you. It will be worth the little wait. There is plenty of seating from the front, inside, to the outdoor patio in the back, which is very pleasant. It didn't take very long for the drink and food that I ordered to come out once I sat down. The iced mocha I had was satisfying and the smoked duck sandwich lived up to its reputation. Being an Industrial Engineer, I love when someone gets queuing right. They do. You wait in line to order, doesn't take too much longer than really deciding what you want to order, especially if its your first time. Once seated in the patio, our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Both of our entrees were prepared very well and tasty. The Avocado & Herbed Goat Cheese sandwich (+peppered bacon) is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Truly. The multigrain bread had a bit of a tang to it (sourdough almost), the goat cheese was generously spread, the avocado creamy, the bacon crunchy, and the whole thing pulled together by a lovely aioli and arugula. The Smoked Duck Breast sandwich was also delicious, though it was a bit sweet for me. The cheese is melted and the whole sandwich lovingly pressed into divine sweet smokey goodness. The star of the spinach salad (which was already good) was the lemon parsley dressing. Oh my goodness, where is the recipe for this? In big red letters on the menu, it says "no variation, don't ask". But I was THAT person and asked if I could get no mustard...the answer was no. Thinking that the sandwich must be absolutely perfect, hence the no changes, I decided to get it anyway. It was delicious. The duck was tender and the bread was the perfect amount of crunchy/soft. Zak & I went in for a little pick-me-up after a long afternoon at Gloria Ferrer followed by a big lunch - just before our drive back to the peninsula. What a nifty place! The girls behind the counter were hip & friendly. They joked with us and made KILLER beverages to order. We drooled over the menu options and they told us about their Monster Mimosas and brunch. We were sad we didn't live closer so we could have come back today to see what it was all about. I snuck out to use the restroom before we got on the road. Restrooms are clean and pleasant... AND along my journey to find them? There is a sweet little patio area outside too! Complete with an outdoor bar and everything. This place is SO good, I went there twice in my 3 day trip in Sonoma. Yup. Once for brunch/breakfast - the California sandwich is yummy and also ordered smoothies. I much preferred the Green smoothie than the Sunrise - I thought the Sunrise smoothie was way too sweet and the Green was much more balanced. Ordered the duck sandwich on everyone's recommendation a couple of days afterwards and it was as good as everyone says - great crusty bread, smoked duck, cheese, with a side of greens. Noms! The coffee here is also amazing, I can't remember the name of the coffee they have, but it was a great brew. Lattes are perfection. Definitely go in the back for the outdoor patio - so cute, outdoor seating complete with a coffee cup fountain! This wasn't apparent to me when I first walked in, but the waiter told me almost immediately - you order at the counter/front and then they give you a number and bring your food to you. Impressive. The potential menu item was fantastic of course. For our meals we had soup and sandwiches - all of which were extremely fresh. And I certainly wasn't disappointed with the size of my "Monster Mimosa". I'm not a huge fan of ordering at a counter (oh the pressure!!), but this place still won me over.
