This is truly a great location and we've been fortunate to be there when they had live music on two occasions. This was the case on our most recent visit as well. The service is also always warm and friendly, from the Hostess to the bar to the wait staff. Now to the food. I always wish and hope it will meet my expectations for such a great spot. But I'm left wanting. Let's start with the disappointing so I can end with the good. I've had the shrimp scampi twice now. The shrimp are cooked nicely, plump and juicy. While I prefer capers with my scampi, that addition would have completely killed the dish because it was already overly salted. Shrimp are stored in salted water when they are caught and frozen, so there is no need to add more salt. And I love salt--don't get me wrong! I implore the chef to do a taste test with no added salt -- and then add capers! The noodles were good, however, despite the overly salted shrimp. The butter, garlic, wine sauce is tasty. We've also had their margarita pizza, and found it decent, but a little lacking in flavor. And we've had the calamari a couple of times. The first time we liked it - 4-stars! But this last time it had no flavor. We didn't finish it or ask for a to-go box. It was just flat and not very crispy. Consistency is not over-rated. W has always ordered the fish tacos and he loves them. I've had them, too, and also found them quite tasty. On their own, a solid 4-star dish. We will continue to come here for the ambiance and service, and hope the food gets to a four-star level. Here's to hoping

Since the staff had already packed up and left there was nothing to do but eat around the edges. So that's what I did.

This felt like a made up rule to protect non-mother customers, and Benicia is known for that. Horrible. What made it worse was how it was handled. The waitress(blonde, short hair mid-aged lady) came off rude and said, "no under 21, sorry--unless it's a dog haha," and then told me I could go to the taphouse on the corner. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. I even tried calling afterward to speak with a manager, but no one answered. Overall, it left a really bad impression, and I don't feel comfortable coming back after this.

Went to Martinez to visit a friend who just came from China for a business trip, a Chinese restaurant is definitely our choice to eat. We ordered pot stickers, general chicken, beef with broccoli and fried rice. I told my friend this is not China and don't expect everything is 100% authentic... but the truth is: my friend was very satisfied and he enjoyed every dish! He told me he has been craving for some authentic Chinese food since his stay here, finally his "Chinese Stomach" got soothed! Thanks for the Owner of the restaurant, a very nice and friendly Chinese guy who loves tea, so does my friend! They hit it off immediately, the owner shared his favorite tea with us, definitely the best tea I've ever had! A very nice restaurant, tasty food, wonderful tea, good service and nice people here. I went here with my cousin and her family on New Year's. She said it was good Chinese food but it seems like for every dive Chinese joint, there are people who swear it's the best food ever. However, the Sunflower did not disappoint. The crab rangoons are a must and the honey walnut prawns are crazy good- just don't look at the plate afterward as the mayonnaise pool induced both guilt and a little nausea in me. The only downside- which my cousin agreed with- is the service. The servers are both slow and apathetic although the bartender (an elderly white guy) seemed like a lot of fun and an old school bartender people would want to tell their problems to. So I would defintely recommend the sunflower to people and that is saying a lot coming from this Chinese food skeptic. read more

I have everything good to say about Sunflower Garden. We eat here at least once a month, we were there last night, and the food is always excellent. They won me over with their pot stickers. I do not like pot stickers, never have. I tried one of theirs and now I go there just for the pot stickers. I have an order of pot stickers and a bowl of hot and sour soup for my dinner. I have also had the other things on their menu though. Everything is always excellent. The veggies are always fresh and crispy and their meat is great. Not sure why others said the meat is no good, I've never had an issue. Love Love Love this place. read more

I have ordered take out on 2 seperate occasions now and both times this place was awful! The chicken chow mein is just way too greasy. The pot stickers that everyone raves about were (yes big) but just OK. Very disappointing that my meal always seems to be expensive and food is lousy. I haven't ate dine in there in years. (maybe that's what I'm doing wrong). Sad because years ago I always ordered take out from here and it was delicious. read more

Afterward, we noticed the sushi chefs laughing with each other while looking over at us. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable eating the raw fish they had prepared, so we returned it. When someone is handling and preparing raw food, professionalism and trust are extremely important. Seeing the people preparing our food laughing and looking at us after our request made us very uncomfortable. After being customers for more than 20 years, this was very disappointing. I hope management or the new owners address this behavior. The servers have always been kind to us, but the behavior we experienced from the sushi chefs was unprofessional and made us uncomfortable enough that we could not eat the food.
