Fifth one I spit out it was a bad oyster. After speaking to the owner he's going to give us a refund or store credit. I was craving cioppino and I didn't want to drive all the way to South Sac for fresh Seafood. Thank god for Sunh Fish! They had all the items I needed. Crab was $6.99 Mussels were $2.99 a lb sold in 2lbs bags Large prawns were $13.95 Large Scallops were $10.96 lb I purchased 2 crabs, a bag of mussels, 1/2 pound of prawns, and scallops all for $50! That's a REALLY good deal! I love how fresh everything is. I just wish they didn't close so early. They're only open till 5pm. read more

Great place...they have sushi level fish and good seasonal stuff. The tuna seems to be always good and salmon not bad at all. The frozen albacore loins in the freezer can be hit and miss when making sushi with it--but if you pour on some ponzu with jalapenos, its still delicious. This is my go to spot for sushi grade fish in Sacramento. The salmon is amazing and the tombo tuna is a great deal for $10/lb. too. Ask them and they will offer to skin the fish for you too. They also have the best deal on great dry scallops u10 and 10-20, 4 or 5 choices of oysters, uni on occasion, and tons of other stuff. This is a staple of my weekly shopping routine now and it should be part of yours too! The staff is also super helpful and knowledgeable. Best place to get your sushi grade fish. I often come here for the tuna. They sometimes have some already cut up and packaged which is so much cheaper than getting it at a sushi restaurant. My bf gets all of their crab and other fish for chipino for the holidays. Their scallops are also amazing. I feel like I'm writing a lot of 5 star reviews lately, but that's just because I've come to some top notch places and Sunh Fish is no different. Incredibly helpful and friendly service. I literally know nothing about fish except that I don't like to eat it (unless it's sushi.) Boyfriend on the other hand loves fish and wanted to get a nice piece for a recipe he had in mind. The man who helped me didn't just take my order he listened to the recipe I was buying the fish for and advised against the whole fish I was going to get. He also recommended something that would work better which I was very grateful for. Ended up leaving with two rock cod filets which only cost $7 instead of a whole snapper which would have been $20+ and wouldn't have cooked as well with the recipe the BF used. I hear so many great things and I'm so disappointed with my experience. I got over $20 of sushi grade hamachi only to open it at home and it SMELLED so fishy. I tried to eat a piece of it but it tasted horrible. THE FISH QUALITY WAS TERRIBLE. I remember asking the butcher if the fish was fresh too because I came in around 12pm on a Monday and he said yes it's still fresh enough to eat as sashimi. Hello, my name is Crystal and I am a sashimi addict - an expensive habit indeed. Consider Sunh Fish my new dealer. I came in last Friday seeking a cheaper way to get my fix, so to speak. My friend and I were greeted warmly and quickly by the employees we passed. The place is HUGE with lots of empty space. Boxes with dry goods are stacked in the center, a wall of freezers lies against the back wall, and the fish counter is on the left. As we meandered up to the counter, a tall, really nice guy guessed that it must be our first time from the way we were looking around, and asked what we were looking for. I stuttered out that I needed sashimi grade tuna, salmon, and hamachi. He also guessed correctly that I was attempting to make sashimi at home - I guess he could see the raw desire in my eyes. He helped me figure out how much of each fish to get, and then offered to cut the skin off for me - please do! 1 lb of each tuna, salmon, and hamachi came to an extremely affordable $40 (what I would have paid for just 20 teeny pieces of sashimi in any restaurant). I went home and almost immediately cut up my first batch for lunch. The salmon was so fresh it basically melted in my mouth, the tuna was brilliant red and beautiful, and the hamachi had a great fresh flavor. I bought a tad too much fish and ended up grilling the left over salmon and tuna toward the end of the weekend, but it was still delicious. I'll be back ASAP - my wallet and my waistline are both voting more fish from Sunh! Maybe next time I'll branch out and get something new to try. read more

I have never written a review about this place?! What the hell is wrong with me? I feel in love with this place back when they use to be located in the old supermarket across the street from Target. Fresh, quality sushi grade fish. Place is understated and simple... Ample parking, never crowded. Lots of room for you to wander and drool over the goodies! I have not tried most of their other seafood, but I hear it's wonderful. I usually go in for tuna, salmon, tobiko (when I am feeling ambitious), seaweed salad, and some other sushi accouterments.. They also have kaiware and soy wraps which are surprisingly hard to find. The guys who work there are super chill and cut your fish up nice and quick. Highly recommend! read more

We went here the other day to get some Ahi for an Ahi Poke dinner. The places closes a little early, so we made sure to get there right before we closed. The place gets 3 stars because they're definitely cheaper. They're a whole lot cheaper than Whole Foods, who charged about $30 for two steaks. This place charged about half. However, the place did not have very fresh fish. This is a big deal in my book, especially if eating fish raw. The fish from whole foods had no fishy taste and tasted amazing. True life account: I googled "salmon sashimi sacramento" , searches brought up yelp reviews of this place. Several reviews about buying sushi grade fish from this fish store. After 17 minutes of reading reviews, I hopped on my bike and rode over here (today, all of this happened within the last 2 hours). Told the guy I wanted fish for sushi grade sashimi, both albacore and salmon. He pointed out that albacore is frozen in a freezer I have access to, and that he would be happy to slice some salmon for me. I am hungry as a mo fo. I tell him 2 pounds of salmon. Well... what can I say about this place that the other 130+ reviews already didn't hit upon. Here's my two cents... I went today for the very first time. The location is actually on the corner of 19 and V, easy enough to find. The entrance is on V street. I came in around 11AM and was the only customer. As you walk in, the fish counter is on the left and there are several tables of dry goods in the center with all your sushi making needs--different kinds of sushi rice, vinegar, seaweed wrap, sauces, etc. The room is huge, well it's a warehouse with no enclosed wall. It's very clean considering they deal with fresh fish. I didn't smell anything stinky. I was in a mood for sashimi, so my focus for this visit was just on that. In the refrigerated counter they ad several pre-packed slices of ahi tuna in less than 1 lb sizes. The price was $16.95/lb. Salmon was $9.95/lb. I took a package of ahi and asked for 1/3 lb of salmon. Some places give me grief about such a small amount, not them. The fella asked if I wanted the salmon skinned, I declined. He also offered ice if I needed it. They also had other types of seafood--oyster, octopus, diff types of fish. I went straight home and clearly sliced the tuna and salmon (de-skinned it myself) for lunch. Delicious!! I love salmon, and this salmon was flavorful and had a richness to it. When I asked the guy he told me he alone can eat however much we bought. I don't know if he was trying to upsell us. One of my housemate, who's from Sacramento, told me that there was this fish market that sold sushi grade fish and such. This place is huge, although it might seem kind of empty inside. I believe there's another compartment where they prep the seafood. They had a good variety of fish ranging from salmon, tuna, yellowtail, etc. This place also had everything you needed to make sushi. All the sauces, the seaweed wrappings, fried tempura, etc. As all of us liked salmon, we just decided to get salmon only. The guy working, maybe the manager or something, was super helpful and kind. We didn't know how much fish to buy to feed us and such so he recommended a serving size that the average human eats. We had 6 people and he suggested that usually it goes for 1/2lb per person. At first, we thought the fish on display was going to weigh in at like 15-20 lbs. Oh we were off by so much. The salmon displayed only weighed in at 5lbs. We asked for 3lbs of it. It was a pretty large size of fish. I believe it was around $12-14 a pound (I don't recall the exact pricing). We left this place with a huge smile on our face with what we just bought. Fresh and large. It was perfect for dinner. Having our sushi night, I think we only used up about maybe a pound of salmon. The quality was great and we all enjoyed ourselves that night. We used the rest to make poke, which was also delicious! If you're looking to do anything with fresh seafood (sushi, poke, etc) and live nearby here, I highly suggest given this place a chance and take a look at what they have to offer. My fam and I purchased their scallops. These scallop are huge, like the size of tennis balls (okay, not that huge, but they're pretty big)! And the best thing about them is that they're packed in dry ice. What's the big deal about being packed in dry ice, you may be asking? It's the flavor! It's out of this world!! You can totally taste the freshness, meatiness and natural sweetness of the scallops! The service is top notch! All the guys there are very friendly and knowledgeable. We've been here twice, and the guy who helped us the first time recognized us and asked if we like the scallops we ordered the first time. He also gave us a good tip --- make sure the scallops are totally dry before pan searing so you get that nice crust on the side. Bought a box of uni for $31, and Akimo for $14.
