I was out here for work and my day started at 4am that morning. I am not a morning person, so it was not easy. I chugged off to do work and by 7am we were all starving. My hosts brought me here, it was the closest thing near by that wasn't McDonalds. The place is definitely a throwback to old 50's style diners, there are pictures of muscle cars and old black and white photo's of celebs from yesteryear. The place was busy for 7am. I ordered their regular breakfast special, it included toast, 2 eggs (I asked for over medium), canadian bacon and hashbrowns. I was going to order some pancakes too, but then I'd be eating more than the two men that were accompanying me..so I held back :-/ One got a Southwest Omelet and the other got the same thing I did. We all ordered coffee as well and orange juice. The coffee is all you can drink. The plates came out pretty quickly (about 5-8 mins later) and they were pretty big. My eggs were done perfectly and my toast was nice and golden with a nice size pat of butter. I slathered that all over and then orange marmalade on top, reminds of breakfast at home back in the day (my mom used to make her own marmalade). The canadian bacon was also nicely grilled, slight char, not burned..yummmm. The coffee was crap and the hashbrowns were basically boiled potatoes that were then grilled a little. I wish they threw some salt, pepper and onions to the grill as well, that woulda made it perfect. The total for all 3 of us was a little over $20, great deal. All and all it was a great breakfast, what you'd expect from a decent diner. read more

This might just be one of my favorite diners in the area. In fact, it might be one of the best diners on the East Coast. We stopped by for a really late breakfast on a Tuesday, and I was amazed at how many patrons were actually there. I wonder if it's the rising unemployment, the early lunch crowds, or some sick combination thereof, but the place was pretty full. The five of us were seated at a long rectangular table in the Elvis room in the back. Oh, did I mention that in addition to your traditional diner decor, Mechanicsburg Diner boasts an extensive collection of Elvis and Marylin prints? It sure makes the old vinyl-and-formica booths look more cheerful. Everything on the menu looked ridiculously cheap. Almost any combination of eggs, meat, potatoes and toast for $3.99? Are you kidding me? I had the signature omelet which was, I believe, a dollar more. The omelet was fluffy, despite being generously stuffed with two kinds of meat, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. The home fried potatoes were my favorite part of the meal. They were soft and just a tad brown, just the way I'd ask my mom to make them. The coffee wasn't terribly strong, but the free refills kept on coming. Our waitress, who looked like she'd worked there forever, had a friendly attitude in a stern, no-nonsense kind of way. I wouldn't have expected anything less. She also seemed to know everyone in the diner, and everyone seemed to know her. There's also something homey and comforting about diners that have local ads on the menus and on the coffee cups. If you're looking for a small, simple, family-oriented diner this is the place!!! Came here for the first time for breakfast and we were seated immediately. Food came out in 10 minutes and was delicious! The only thing that I didn't love was that our waitress (who was wonderful) from what I could see had most of the inside tables and the outside tables by herself and had to run her own plates. First, keep in mind that this is a diner. Consider what sorts of expectations you have about a diner, it's food and the service that comes with it. My visit to the Mechanicsburg diner met my expectations. My friend and I went for breakfast on a Saturday morning, around 8:30. The restaurant was busy, but not overly so. We were seated immediately and our waitress (Theresa) came out to take our drink orders. I had heard that they sometimes serve pumpkin pancakes here, so I inquired as to their availability. She ran back to the kitchen to check and confirmed that they did have them that morning. I ordered two pumpkin pancakes ($3.99) and the #1 - two eggs, hash-browns and toast ($2.69). Our food took a little longer to get out to us than I expected. I noticed that it appeared like our orders were up, but our waitress was busy with other tables and was not able to get to our food as soon as I would have liked. A small quibble, but the food was hot when it arrived, so it didn't affect the temperature. The pumpkin pancakes were great. They had a hearty pumpkin flavor to them, complete with a little pumpkin spice zing to them. I would definitely get them again. The special was okay. Baker's does it better, but it's also $.80 more there. The decor is a little on the kitschy side, but it's not overly distracting. Our waitress was pleasant and cheerful and quick to clear our plates and refill our coffee and water. Checkout was quick and efficient. I'd come back for breakfast. read more

We took my parents out for a birthday breakfast since it was located near them. Based on what I read we decided to try it out. As breakfasts go, it passed the greasy home fries test - if they are dry you've lost my business. We got seated quickly and the service was good. I went in for take out (soup and one other item). When I paid for my order she said "do you want to put my tip on the card or give me cash". What? This is ridiculous, took you like 1.5 min $1.50 tip times 60 minutes per hour you are now making $60.00 per hour just in tips. My bad for giving into your pressure. Will not happen again. read more

Sunlight Diner is tucked off of US15 at the Rossmoyne Exit. It is a gem. Breakfast items are huge. Coffee is wonderful and refilled often. Wait staff are so very kind, even to solo diners. Typical diner fare, but the grilled haddock is beyond belief. As in I stopped to get it twice last week. Very moist and tons of flavor! I just wish they offered less starchy veggies like green beans and broccoli more often. Great place. read more

This place deserves a high rating for both food quality and service. While staying at a hotel in Mechanicsburg to search for a new home in the area, several people recommended we go there, and we're glad we did. I had a seafood platter even though it included fish, which I usually don't care for, but it was excellent, as were the crab cake and shrimp. The manager made his rounds to the tables, and I let him know how well I thought the food was prepared, as well as the attentiveness of our waitress without being intruding. Businesses should be complimented when they do a good job, not just hear about it when something is wrong. But I still think they should know when there's a problem, so they at least know what they need to improve on. That just wasn't the case here, as we were very pleased. read more

I eat lunch here on a semi regular basis. Service is usually good depending on the server, sometimes stellar, but never have gotten bad service. Food is typical diner fare and a good selection of daily specials. Love the patty melt which is generally what inspires me to go there. read more

Just went in to get 2 take out orders. Tried to call it in first but their phone isn't working. Ordered a ham omelet with no cheese. Watched the waitress write "no cheese" on the ticket. Went to Sunlight for first time after seeing a review in the Carlisle Sentinel. Never knew it was there tucked off of Wesley Drive. What a hidden gem. Had breakfast on a Sat morning. Prices more than reasonable for Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill area. Food came out fast and was very good. The even better part was the exceptional and friendly waitresses. My coffee was refilled 2 times without having to ask and on the last time I declined since I was done eating and ready to go and the waitress asked me if I wanted some coffee to go and I said sure, a small cup would be great. Wow, you don't see this at most places, very nice. That kind gesture earned my waitress a $5.00 tip on an $8.31 check. I'll be back for sure. read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners at Sunlight Diner. The chicken and waffle with gravy which my husband ordered was hot, flavorful, delicious and plentiful. He ordedered it with a side of tater tots. Now that's some you don't get too often..tater tots. Comfort food to the max!. The cup of chicken soup he ordered was home made and was loaded with chicken. I ordered the Reuben and it was one of the best Reuben's I've had in a long time. Lean meat, nice hot sauerkraut. right amount of cheese and nicely toasted bread. I am very fond of this place. I work nearby and usually interact with them through takeout, but occasionally have time to stop in for breakfast. Everything I've had has been delicious. Very tasty meatloaf, and when I get the entree takeout for lunch, there is plenty of food. I am rarely unsatisfied or hungry after eating here, and the prices are decent as well. I went here because of these reviews but the owner and staff must only cater to locals. A few points to make. 1. This is a NOT a diner. To understand the true meaning of a diner go to Jersey! 2. The waitress took my order and I never saw her again... I had to call out to get her her to bring me napkins. 3. Owner didn't really want to hear what I needed when asked because his lack of listening and annoyed look spoke volumes. I was Not VALUED nor did I feel important as a customer. 4. Diner food is supposed to be delicious and overflowing - neither of these things occurred. Suggest you change your staff, ownership and name ...
