#7 for 2021 It was nice to see this Taiwanese bakery open almost a year ago with their delicious breads. We decided to stop in today to try their mochi donuts that others have told us about. Masks are required but social distancing is not enforced. Enter at your own risk. Staff is very polite, courteous, attentive and helpful. There is a good selection of different types of breads to try. Many are very good. Puddings, beans, cream cheeses, fruit Danishes, brioche, puff pastries and chocolate bricks. You may want to try their Hokkaido breads and Hokkaido cream puffs. Shredded pork and garlic roast beef are very tasty too. And their cakes look just as delicious too. On this trip we made our selection of mochi donuts ordering black sesame, snickers peanut butter and matcha white vanilla. My favorite was the snickers peanut butter but were all good. The mochi donut stands out from regular donuts having more of a bite and chewy. I like that because you get to enjoy the taste longer thereby enjoying the pleasure and experience. I was going to GW market and found this bakery yesterday. The location is clean and the service was friendly. Store manager was very nice. It was hard to a decision the manager help me find the some breads that I want for my son. I bought a lot of breadS and Tuna bun ~ my son loved this one and you can taste everything that into it. First time trying out Sunmerry after numerous pictures of this bakery showed up on the Yelp feed. I thought this place looked like another 85 Degrees or like a bakery plus Happy Lemon. I decided to stop here to grab some sweets and a surprise cake. Since we are not yet able to gather in large groups yet, I wanted to find something special, unique, and tastes good. I've been to 85 degrees and Portos for cakes, but never tried Sunmerry. As I drove along the 60 Fwy I decided to stop by here and pick up a cake or cake slices. This Sunmerry is located on the busy streets of Colima and in the plaza with the GW (Great Wall) Supermarket. Parking was ok. Most of the parking spots were taken up by supermarket shoppers and other businesses. Upon entering the store it felt kind of small and very little selection at a glance. I was lucky enough to snag some unique pastries that I've never seen at other bakeries. They have mochi donuts, cake rolls, and buns. As for the cake, it was hard for me to choose. If I get a whole cake, that would be too much and if I just get a slice of cake, it seems too little. As a result I just grabbed a slice of each cake. This way they get to try one of each! Whichever one is a fan favorite I would by a whole cake next time. I got the Mango, Black Forest, Strawberry, and Tiramisu. The staff there was nice enough to put eachcake slice in individual fold up boxes and in a bag. Transporting cake is my least favorite thing as I am worried about it shifting around in my car. The verdict of the cake slices, drum roll please! It was the Strawberry Cake! It was the best out of the 4 slices, but each were good in it's unique way. That light fluffy buttercream was really good! A runner up would be the Peach cake slice. Perfect even layers, not too sweet, but still nice and fruity. The Tiramisu was also nice, the dark cocoa powder was a bit bitter, but nicely sweetened. I think this would go well with some coffee. As for the Black Forest it tasted more of a tres leche cake and had cherries in the cake. Still good, if you like cherries and chocolate combinations. Overall my first visit to Sunmerry was pleasant. Can't wait for a special occasion to get that whole Strawberry cake! read more

Ordered a seasalt foam green tea. I asked the lady to put no ice but still got entire 1/2 cup of ice. She said the owner made it a rule you can't have no ice. The tea taste like sugar & water, no tea taste at all. Other tea houses will allow no ice as an option and give you same amount. I would go back to Alittle Tea a block away which is $5 (most flavors large cup) including 4 toppings of your choice and yes you can ask for no ice and they fill up to the rim. read more

I normally just come here for their drinks. Kinda disappointed that there's only 1 worker on a weekend. I also dislike the fact that i cant order "no ice" or even "less ice" in my drink order. A bit pricey for me and the goodies we got were just okay. Instantly saw the boba egg tarts and had to get some. You can get 4 for $6.50. You can heavily taste the brown sugar in the boba, but altogether it made the dessert way, way, way too sweet. The syrup from the boba also made the egg tart really soggy. Really unfortunate with how nice they looked. I also got a brown sugar boba milk and it was decent. The boba on the tarts were actually chewier than the ones inside my drink (kinda soggy unfortunately). Altogether for the egg tarts and 2 drinks, it was almost $20... I went here yesterday for the first time upon friend's recommendation for their coffee. They have promotions $1.50 for Ice Dalgona Coffee for three days. When I got there, they were practicing social distancing my allowing three families inside at a time, providing sanitizing spray, and requiring masks. Which was awesome. All the staff were wearing masks but they didn't wear gloves. I ended up getting the Ice Dalgona Coffee, Ice Oreo and Cream, Ice Grapefruit Tea, Rainbow Roll, Golden Cheesecake Roll, Nutella Roll and couple of bakery items. The Ice Dalgona Coffee was like a latte, to the more bitter taste. Strong coffee flavor, which I like. The Oreo drinks looked good but I didn't taste it. My sons loves them. The Grapefruit drink was good. Not too sweet, not too sour, with bits of grapefruits in it. The rolls were sponge cakes and it taste soft and fluffy, which was a typical Asian bakery, something that I'm used to. My son tried the ham and egg bread and he said, "It was sooooo delicious!" I saw a sign to sign up for free membership with 10% off first purchase, and a stamp card. But I wasn't offered any of it, which was a bummer. Incentives like that, usually things that make me keep coming, even though most than most, I lost it anyway. But if you gave to other customer, I feel I should be given one too without having to ask. Their drinks are super delicious! Especially the hot drinks, I got the Jasmine Green Milk Tea with boba and the Boba Milk Tea today. Definitely great drinks during the cool season. They also hand out loyalty cards and if you order 10 drinks, you will get your 11th one free. Highly recommend! I was sick with the flu a few weeks ago and I didn't know it until I fainted on shift. I wouldn't eat anything without it just coming right out for days. A good friend of mine bought me a 6 inch strawberry custard cake for my bday several weeks ago from this location so when it was my sis bday this past weekend I made the drive & bought not only 1 cake but 2 cakes from this location. I bought the 6 inch strawberry custard & the 8 inch fresh strawberry creme cake totaling about $80. We were thoroughly disappointed with the quality of both cakes but the strawberry custard was the worse. The fresh strawberry creme cake we felt the cake was on the dry side but that's fine. The strawberry custard cake was the big disappointment. The cake was also dry but on one side of the cake it looked like they ran short of custard to fill leaving a big hole see pic attached. Of course the good side was showing in their display case so we had no idea the other side looked this way after they put it in the box. The 3 strawberries tasted old, the one blackberry had fuzzy mold on it, the sliced strawberries that's in the middle of the cake all around tasted watery. Even our 9 yr old said this is not the same strawberry custard cake we had several weeks ago because everything tasted different. I've asked the staff are these cake made today & was reassured they were but based on the dry cake & the quality of the fruits after a taste test I very much doubted they were made that day, Saturday. read more

I've been here a couple of times. It may not be my go-to Asian bakery but it does have some good items. I had their egg tart & boba egg tart (not sure if that's available anymore), the strawberry fluffy cake, their mochi donut, and some breads. My favorite is their egg tart & the pork sung (pork floss) bread. It's standard and dependable items. The worst was their mochi donut. It was doughy, mushy, and super flat. Not sure if it was because it was left out for a couple of hours (we got the donut @3:30pm). I would go back if I was in the area but scarred for life with their donut. read more

Summery has become my to-go place for my weekly bakery run. First of all, they have a very convenient online order feature where you are allowed to place on-line order (contact-free payment) and pick it up. However, there are a few items that can not be ordered online because they are limited quantities. So those are for in-store only. I recommend the buttercream bolo and their taro mochi bread. Those two are my favorite. They also have mochi donuts and they are individually wrapped. It is also very tasty and worth trying. read more

I think I went to heaven and came back the day I tried their Black Sesame Coffee. To be honest, all their pastries are absolutely supreme, but I think how nice the staff was with me when I stopped by the first time is what sold me. Their coffee is on another level, and the Rowland Heights location is pretty neat. I wish they didnt have the display table in the middle, but again, you are honestly going to love their entire menu and may take it to go. What a cute little bakery! Parking was fairly easy. Bags were available for you to grab at the entrance and fill up as you go. I got the Tuna Bread, Bread with Hot Dog, Rainbow Roll, and Brown Sugar Milk with Boba. Bread with Hot Dog 3/5. Nothing special. Rainbow Roll 5/5 but remember to eat it right away or keep refrigerated. Mine melted when I got home but it was still delicious! Brown Sugar Milk with Boba 4/5. I see why it was so hyped up but to me it was okay. Tuna Bread 6/5 I can't explain but the bread and the flavor of the tuna...incredible!!!! 100% would come back just for this! Man has this place gone downhill so fast. Sunmerry used to be a bakery that claims to use high quality ingredients, they have a sign on the wall that says they do. Yet I've come in the morning before and grabbed bread that's ice cold. Why is it ice cold at opening? Are they serving old bread and not even bothering to reheat it? They used to sell espresso but now it's regular drip coffee, and not even anything special. I see them putting Costco coffee grounds in and charging me $3-$4 for a cup full of loose grounds. I've also noticed that they switched from making their own sugar syrup to high sugar fructose, another downgrade. The creamer they use is coffee mate creamer and all the fruit drinks use syrup, even the lemon juice comes out of a bottle. You would think with them slashing costs across the board that the drinks would be cheaper right? No. They range from $6-7 for drinks made out of nothing but syrup. So expensive for such cheap products. The boba is almost always hard and goopy, like they make one batch in the morning for the entire day. Cakes are pretty good, but they are not made every day as you can see sell by date stickers on them. Bread is good with good variety, but consistency is almost never there. Some days items will be huge and other days they'll be half the size. A lot of the filled bread don't even have much filling in them. The choco buns are good but barely any chocolate inside. The Frank rolls are 50% bread, 10% hot dog, and 40% air. They also leave their double doors propped open and a whole bunch of bugs get in and get into the unsealed bread packaging. They also only seem to have only one worker in the mornings, which obviously backs things up. Idk if management has just given up but it sure seems like it. read more

I can clearly say this place is mediocre, at 11am they arent even ready to make coffee yet so i had to wait almost 15 minutes for coffee when the store was empty. My coffee also tasted bland. I've seen this on multiple occasions visiting this store. Drinks are inconsistent in sweetness and depend on who makes it. Yesterday's visit had a watered down tasting drink while a few months ago, my drink was good. Bags are offered free of charge to some customers while I was charged for mine. The same person who took my order offered a stamp card to my friend ahead of me but not myself. Overall with the inconsistent service and food cleanliness, I personally will not return. read more

Mochi donuts are now available at the Rowland Heights location! There were several flavors available: black sesame, cookies and cream, matcha and white chocolate, peanut butter, mango, and strawberry. Each donut costs $2.50. The texture is very light, chewy, and bouncy. The donuts do not taste heavy like typical American donuts. The matcha donut doesn't have a strong matcha flavor; it mostly tastes like sweet white chocolate. The black sesame is very good though! My family and I preferred the black sesame donut. PSA - beware, they sell moldy bread!! Bought some bread yesterday and opened it to make a sandwich today. I grabbed 2 slices of bread out of the bag and one of the slices strangely enough had a hole of some sort. When I examined it, it looked like someone had deliberately ripped out the mold and put the slice back into the bag. Ok fine - my hungry ass gave it the benefit of the doubt. I pull out another slice and SAME THING! More mold in the "hole" that was made from someone who deliberately ripped out the pieces that had mold... SERIOUSLY?? Come on guys. That's not right.. I legit had no issues with this place until now and I don't think I'll ever be back. The fact that they found mold, tried to hide this by just straight ripping it out of SLICED bread and then put it back into the bag to get some $$$$ is extremely shady to me. I will not be supporting this location anymore . My family used to be big Sunmery Bakery fans for their breads . We would come here every week. However , today my dad went to buy a cake in the afternoon and the sign said 20% off mango and taro cakes. So my dad decided to get a mango cake, an older lady from the back says that the sign isn't supposed to be there and the sale was for yesterday's cake, but there were no dates on the sign. And she says todays cakes are fresh.... Does that mean yesterday's mango and taro cakes were not fresh?!?!?! It is clearly false advertising and they should've taken the sign down and honored the price!!! Very disappointed with this location. They messed up pricing before and charged me more for one of their deals for their other breads , but I didn't think much of it. This is now the second time this has happened with the overcharging . Avoid this place, if you don't want to get scammed . Parking lot is a headache as well. read more

First time trying mochi donuts and I am impressed with the dense and somewhat chewy texture. As expected, the cookies 'n cream donut was sweeter than the black sesame one but they're both equally good. We could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients even when we went to pick up our order near their closing hour. I know there's probably better places that specialize in mochi donuts. Decided to try this place out after seeing their famous garlic bread on Instagram and that they had dalgona coffee. I instantly fell in love with the garlic bread the moment I got to try it. It's soooo rich though and you feel super fat afterwards but it's also very satisfying. I don't go here often since it's a bit further away for me but this bread alone is worth it for me to pick up if I'm in the area. Dalgona coffee was also very nice! Coffee they use is strong and although there is a good amount of sugar (asked for half sweet) it still isn't overpowering the coffee. Would definitely recommend if you want to try out dalgona coffee made by others. I initially thought this place could've been too hyped up for their garlic bread and man was I wrong haha. It's really soft and creamy (make sure to microwave it so the butter/cream cheese instead can melt!) but it's something you should probably only eat 1 at a time and not too often. I tried a few of their other breads however I'd say their best is definitely the garlic bread. I've yet to try the boba eggtart and mochi donuts but I hope to be able to if they're in store the next time I go! read more

I went to Sunmerry this weekend as I was trying Yi Fang a couple shops down. I'm not sure if it's because I came towards closing at night and they had limited options, but in general it just didn't look like they had a huge variety for bread selection. Regardless, I was able to get my hands on a garlic bread and a brioche (never been able to find this one elsewhere other than at 85 Degree Bakery). I found the prices very low and taste to be pretty good on both of the bread I bought! They have a few cakes as well for birthday celebrations. And they also serve Happy Lemon drinks here which is a huge plus, can't wait to come back to get some more green tea latte with salted cheese! read more

I switched over to enjoying eating bakery items again and have totally fallen in love with Sunmerry. This bakery has plenty of options and the items to me taste better than 85! That's saying a lot in the Asian bakery decision for sure. Some will say different but I really am starting to love coming to this bakery. They have better drinks and also tastier bread in my opinion. I also love their egg tarts, the crust is to die for. I know we said a New Years resolution on losing weight, but who could resist this place? If you haven't tried it out I would suggest coming here in the morning to get the items and see what they usually carry. My go to bakery. I don't like to cook. So I always come here to buy bread for my breakfast / lunch. It's easy. They have a variety of selection all fresh. None of them would be over night or god knows how long it's been there. If you come around 7 then they are really limited because they close soon. If you want a good variety come around 2-3pm they will have everything. They always have bread or cake for sample. I really like their shredded pork bun, tuna, black sesame pudding, and their whole lemon black tea no sugar. They have like taro cake, matcha red bean cake, strawberry cake. It's around $10 for like a load of those cakes. My co workers love their taro cake. They also have a lot birthday cakes on display. Personally I believe their cakes are not sweet enough. I love sweet sugary like I'll get diabetes type of dessert. But not everyone likes that. So their cake aren't too sweet if you are the type that likes it less sweet. read more
