What a pleasant surprise! The Portuguese egg tart was on sale for $1 each, and it was actually flakey with a phyllo pie crust. Immediately bought two more to take home. Popped it in the air fryer and it was so custardy, crisp, and delish. Ever since my trip to Portugal a few months ago, I've been on a hunt for solid pastel de nata's and egg tarts. This scratched the itch and trumps the other 4-5 recent places I've had the egg tarts, though I will still have to keep searching for the ideal pastry reminiscent of Portugal. So far so good here! Was in this part of town, I'm a sucker for Asian Grocery stores but I saw this place and went in. Good desserts and selections, my only regret was coming here when everything was picked over. It was one hour before closing but I found some treats to take home. I'll definitely be back when they have a fresh stock. But maybe that might be a bad idea because I'll likely spend a lot haha. I came in for the $1 egg tart deal they're advertising, of course they are out of them but said they will be ready in 25 min. I prepaid for the egg tarts, so I can make sure I got them when the order was ready. Left for 45 min and returned to pick up the order and now they are saying they gave them all out and want to refund me. I said that is not acceptable and that I wasted time to wait for the order. Y'all know by now Sunmerry is my weakness! I'm glad other tea and bakery shops don't offer the same flavors as Sunmerry, this is strictly for "Treat Yo'self Day", which seems to have occurred a few times these last 2 weeks! This Rowland Heights location had some good inventory for 3pm on a Friday, so my bestie and I picked out quite a few treats then ordered our drinks. Service was great and our drinks were ready within minutes. We noticed a few pick-up orders waiting and lots of happy people selecting from sandwiches, pastries - both savory and sweet varieties - and even mochi donuts. What I really like about Sunmerry baked goods is the taste, softness and chewiness. There's also NO SOY AFTERTASTE! Looking at their ingredient allergy warnings, I noticed fewer items made with soy oil than the leading popular chain Asian bakery, which list soy on all their baked goods - and I can taste it. Seeing "butter" on a number of baked goods from Sunmerry made my selections easier, but I still had to narrow down a few choices - even I have to know when to stop! lol Sunmerry also offers a punch card for their drinks AND early bird discounts on rolls and a discount on their "day old" table. Rowland Heights has a row of tables along the inside wall, which makes it nice for enjoying a snack with a bit of a linger. One star off for inattention to seating/dining area. The young woman at the counter packed all four boxes into one small bag, which was too full and difficult to carry. I politely asked for two more bags, but she refused. Whenever I went to Taiwan, I visited the first Sunmerry Bakery on Yongkang St. in Taipei. I love the food there. That store is always bright with lots of good food and customers. I actually did not see a 85 Degrees C Bakery Cafe in a tourist area in Taipei. One day I saw a tiny and dark 85 degrees C in a rural area that I would not go there. However, it's totally opposite in the US. 85 Degrees C has bigger and beatiful bakery stores and has more customers than Sumerry. I went to Sunmerry in Rowland Heights this morning. As some customers mentioned in Yelp, their front door was wide open. There's only one employee at the front. Luckily I did not see any flies and each bread was in a plasctic bag. I would not go to that location in the afternoon or during weekend because it's difficult to find a parking spot and the traffic on Colima Road is crazy. I personally feel that Sunmerry's bread taste better than 85 Degrees C's bread. I often receive emails from Sunmerry that Sunmerry offers different promotion(s) frequently. Sunmerry seems put lots of energies in marketing but its business does not reflect it. I would suggest Sunmerry opens bigger bakery stores in better areas. Customers can sit down and enjoy food after they purchase food and drinks. Just copy the way how 85 Degrees C promote its business in the US. read more

This is the worst pineapple bun I've ever had. It's overly sweet, and the texture is so sticky it clings to my teeth. It's completely different from the authentic Taiwanese pineapple buns I used to enjoy. read more

One of my fave affordable Taiwanese bakeries! The coffee drinks are a hidden gem. I used to only get the matcha or taro pastries but became a huge fan of the iced taro coffee and strawberry coffee! Also Mochi donuts are pretty good. Id say better than mochinut. read more

Last minute desert run the lady was very nice and help me save a few bucks by purchase in prepackaged box set! I always fell for the Limited Time items, so I got to order the two new Holiday drinks! Turned out it was the first day they launched it, the lady made the drinks and offer me to try it before leave the store, as if it was not to my taste, she can try to fix it, that was great customer service!! There are not many bakeries that sells taro birthday cakes so I was glad to see that Sunmerry had a taro pudding cake that was quite popular. I was a bit disappointed in the taste because it was quite artificial. Seemingly there is taro paste made with real taro, but they added artificial taro into the paste and batter so it overwhelmed the actually taro. The service was a bit rude when I called in to ask about reserving a cake. I called multiple locations so not sure if it was this location, but the guy who answered had an attitude of like "why is this guy asking me questions" I asked a few questions like do you have a taro cake, is it real taro, what's in the cake, can I reserve a cake for tomorrow. One of the response was like "you're asking what's in the taro cake? It has taro in it" Other than that, the store was clean and organized. The person at the front was nice and polite. #7 for 2021 It was nice to see this Taiwanese bakery open almost a year ago with their delicious breads. We decided to stop in today to try their mochi donuts that others have told us about. Masks are required but social distancing is not enforced. Enter at your own risk. Staff is very polite, courteous, attentive and helpful. There is a good selection of different types of breads to try. Many are very good. Puddings, beans, cream cheeses, fruit Danishes, brioche, puff pastries and chocolate bricks. You may want to try their Hokkaido breads and Hokkaido cream puffs. Shredded pork and garlic roast beef are very tasty too. And their cakes look just as delicious too. On this trip we made our selection of mochi donuts ordering black sesame, snickers peanut butter and matcha white vanilla. My favorite was the snickers peanut butter but were all good. The mochi donut stands out from regular donuts having more of a bite and chewy. I like that because you get to enjoy the taste longer thereby enjoying the pleasure and experience. For a chain, the Rowland Heights branch is disappointing and coffee are certainly not their forte. My favorite is still the one in San Gabriel. We still stop in, this shop, as a matter of convenience because my two go-to eateries are in the same plaza. My recommendation is stick to the pastries and the milk teas. The coffee is certainly weak -- taste of coffee barely there. The coffee is watered down and at times you can taste the tap water used to brew the coffee. The milks are good and are prepared with non-dairy creamer. If you're lucky enough, the sales - promotion item or the day-old breads (marked buy 2 get 1 free) is worth the buy. read more

First time trying out Sunmerry after numerous pictures of this bakery showed up on the Yelp feed. I thought this place looked like another 85 Degrees or like a bakery plus Happy Lemon. I decided to stop here to grab some sweets and a surprise cake. Since we are not yet able to gather in large groups yet, I wanted to find something special, unique, and tastes good. I've been to 85 degrees and Portos for cakes, but never tried Sunmerry. As I drove along the 60 Fwy I decided to stop by here and pick up a cake or cake slices. This Sunmerry is located on the busy streets of Colima and in the plaza with the GW (Great Wall) Supermarket. Parking was ok. Most of the parking spots were taken up by supermarket shoppers and other businesses. Upon entering the store it felt kind of small and very little selection at a glance. I was lucky enough to snag some unique pastries that I've never seen at other bakeries. They have mochi donuts, cake rolls, and buns. As for the cake, it was hard for me to choose. If I get a whole cake, that would be too much and if I just get a slice of cake, it seems too little. As a result I just grabbed a slice of each cake. This way they get to try one of each! Whichever one is a fan favorite I would by a whole cake next time. I got the Mango, Black Forest, Strawberry, and Tiramisu. The staff there was nice enough to put eachcake slice in individual fold up boxes and in a bag. Transporting cake is my least favorite thing as I am worried about it shifting around in my car. The verdict of the cake slices, drum roll please! It was the Strawberry Cake! It was the best out of the 4 slices, but each were good in it's unique way. That light fluffy buttercream was really good! A runner up would be the Peach cake slice. Perfect even layers, not too sweet, but still nice and fruity. The Tiramisu was also nice, the dark cocoa powder was a bit bitter, but nicely sweetened. I think this would go well with some coffee. As for the Black Forest it tasted more of a tres leche cake and had cherries in the cake. Still good, if you like cherries and chocolate combinations. Overall my first visit to Sunmerry was pleasant. Can't wait for a special occasion to get that whole Strawberry cake! read more

Clean lobby / waiting area. The parking lot can get packed and has a lot of distracted drivers so caution is key when entering the store. The drinks are good depending on which worker makes them. Cakes are tasty but not freshly made in store if that's your preference. read more
