I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of my life, where solar panels aren't on most homes, so my knowledge of Solar Panels was nada. When we bought a new home with solar panels in Woodland, we learned the hard way. Last month, I received a PG&E true-up bill for more than $1k! The PG&E rep gave me a quick crash course: clean your panels. Since there's no way I'm getting on the roof of my house, I searched for a solar maintenance business on the NextDoor App - Viola! I found The Orange Solar. They came out the next day to clean my panels, which would give me +30% absorption. You can't tell from ground level that it was covered in dirt and bird droppings. There were all sorts of bird nestings beneath it, which would damage my roof over time. At the same appointment, they discovered my inverter was faulty. They contacted the manufacturer and got them to cover it under my warranty, and Orange Solar replaced it for a reasonable price the next day after receiving the part. They are very thorough, they love to help the locals, they are affordable, and they are overall good people. They are the only certified business in Woodland that does this stuff. We hired them last spring to re-roof our home, replace some rotted eaves and fascia and replace our old solar system (it was inefficient and malfunctioned quite a bit). We are very happy with what we got for the price we paid, it was a good value. It looks so much better than it did before and is consistently producing more energy. I feel like they helped us make the right decisions through the whole process, especially for system size to be able to keep our NEM1 status. The new roof looks great and works really well. I waited almost a year to write this review to make sure there wasn't any water intrusion during the winter storms - not a drop anywhere. They were in the mid-high range in pricing on the bids we got, but I'm happy we spent a little more went with them. Can a roof be sexy? Ours sure is. The owner of that business recommended Sunlight Electrical to fix my system. I spoke with Carlos at Sunlight. He sent out Isaac who seemed very capable. Isaac's assessment was that my system had multiple wiring issues and recommended a service that would require a larger team to complete. He explained why, and I concurred with Isaac's recommendation. Carlos scheduled a larger team to come out the next week. They were led by Jesus, who also seemed quite knowledgeable. Jesus and his team worked diligently for 4 hours. They found more wiring errors as Isaac has predicted. And they found a damaged Tesla MC2 unit on the roof which had cracked. After they completed their repairs, the system started operating better than it ever had before. I estimate that I am now getting an extra 10-15% more power from the solar panels. In addition to providing capable technicians, I really appreciate that Sunlight is so easy to work with. I asked several highly technical questions and always got thoughtful answers. If you want something done a specific way, just ask them. They have such a positive, customer oriented attitude that makes them a pleasure to deal with.

I was very skeptical about getting Solar because of the stories I'd heard about the rebates, and I was worried about the "catch." After getting multiple bids on the project and the system that I needed, this company was able to do it right. They quoted me a reasonable price for the design, whereas other companies pushed leasing, which cost more over time, and others wanted to charge way more for the system because of the rebate increase. Missing leading customers, overcharging, and lacking the best financing options. Daniel, however, was very reasonable and professional, explaining it step-by-step. He did exactly what he said he was going to do. He was able to get the system up promptly and was very professional, as I have a newborn at home. It wasn't inconvenient when I asked questions, and he would respond even if he had a long day on other projects, which I appreciate. I cannot say the same about others. I thought the others were trying to make a commission and even wanted to contract parts of the job like Bird shielding. Which for the price is ridiculous. He found many savings and benefit enhancements along the way. In spite of the solar credit expiring at the end of 2025, David put together an HDM plan far superior to anything I found when getting competing quotes. It simply lowered the cost without complicating ownership or savings or adding any ongoing cost. Speaking of competing quotes, they beat everyone else. All together, I saved about $20,000 without undue complication. Production Manager Jack kept me fully informed along the way. He always responded promptly and clearly to every query. He scheduled and completed the solar installation much earlier than promised. The installers also travelled a long distance outside of their service area to do the job in the Sierra foothills. So, even if you think your home is outside of their service area as shown on Yelp, you might give them a call and see if they can do it. Installer Gio and his team were excellent. Our panels were going on a tile roof and I had concerns about the L brackets pulling up the tiles as they slide under the downhill side of tiles. They ground channels into each of the affected tiles for these brackets so that the roof is still as water tight as a duck's a**. Gio, the electrician and main contact on site was both smart, friendly and patient in explaining the details while the solar panels, Tesla PowerWall batteries and solar inverter were installed. We originally chose them a few years ago because they offered free solar panel removal and reinstallation when we eventually needed a roof replacement. The initial install went fine, but trying to get them to honor their contract now has been a nightmare. Bait and Switch: They are suddenly demanding a $3,600 fee for the removal. Even their salesperson admitted this fee was not indicated in our main agreement from 2021, but is now picking apart vague fine print (outside of our contract) to justify it. We have sent the contract over multiple times and asked them to highlight the language where it specifies this charge. Unethical leadership: Leadership is aware of this $3,600 gap, but they don't want to back down. Terrible Customer Service: They are dragging their feet and refusing to coordinate with our roofer, who has been consistently asking for dates to remove the solar. Ignored Emergencies: We explicitly told them we have an active roof leak and asked them to prioritize the removal so we could fix our home. They did not care. Once they finish your initial install, they will abandon you and refuse to give you the time of day. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If you are looking for solar, be very wary and look elsewhere.
