We got two basic sandwiches and 2 cups off coffee and paid $35 bucks ‍ Food and drink thoughts: I like more than one cup of coffee for breakfast, especially when I'm having breakfast out. Sunny Side has no coffee refills, just pour overs. I was also annoyed that the sugar, salt and pepper came in packets. So this morning I woke up and realized that I hadn't preordered breakfast for a meeting at 7am for work for 10 people! I try to choose small business' are Escondido when my company does meetings. But I have always ordered it the day before since it is so early. I pulled up at Sunnyside Side kitchen just a few minutes after they opened at 6:30am. It's a big order so I would have totally understood if they wouldn't be able to do it. Instead I was welcomed with open arms by Kathy and Bob (owners) and they helped me quickly decide on what to order (I had never been there before). These two busted their butts (while still taking in phone orders) and made me a dozen breakfast sandwiches on no notice while they held a conversation with me the whole time and never skipped a beat! Y'all not only are they so kind but their food was AMAZING! Hands down delicious!!!! Everyone at the meeting this morning was a fan! From picky eaters to eat everything eaters they all approved! This a small breakfast coffee shop.  Three tables outside and 4 tables inside.  Three tables seat two people and one table seats four so not really good for groups.  Also four counter chairs.  It can  get crowded while people are waiting for to go orders. Nice friendly service.   Service is on the slower side so if you are in a rush, suggest going somewhere else.  A lot of regulars and visitors here because of its downtown location.  Plenty of parking in the area. They grind and hand pour their coffee so it takes a little time.  I do not think I have seen a place do that.  I think it is cool to see them grind small batches of beans,  fill a filter over an individual cup, and hand pour hot water to get a cup of coffee. The California club is a good size, really good, and fresh but a bit on the pricey side for a sandwich and small cup of fruit. The bite size cookies are really good.  I ordered a mixed dozen and they were really good.  The had 6 or so different varieties like chocolate chip.  I almosted finished them waiting for my sandwich. The hand poured coffee is really good.  It stayed nice and warm. A definite place to visit again. read more

I literally just left Sunny Side. I couldn't wait to write a review. Kate was wonderful. I'm pretty sure she sensed my pure exhaustion from a 2 month old and 2.5 year old toddler. She was so helpful and caring. My husband got the works panini and it was everything you needed a breakfast sandwich to be. They don't skimp on avocados here. We love that. Every bite got avocados and then some. I got the meatloaf panini and it ''twas DELICIOUS. The ketchup made the panini. It was sweet and spicy. Not your average ketchup. The parm crusted bread was my favorite part. It is a very cozy establishment. Extra cozy today because of the rain but everyone was so sweet. From the street & the way the inside of this place looks I'd honestly never expect anything special, it's old and small but let's be real it's the food that makes you return. I got the works panini & it was sooooooo delicious! The rosemary cheese encrusted into the bread was the star of the show, it bread was cooked to perfection. The three cheeses in it were so good, the bacon was delicious, & avocado was ripe. The side of fruit was a nice light sweet touch, all the fruit were shockingly ripe. None were underripe or over, perfect! Also got the raspberry Italian soda and it was delicious. So good I went back and got a second Italian soda but this time hazelnut which was super good! The raspberry was more my style slightly lighter where the hazelnut was significantly sweeter but I'd get both again. Overall everything was delicious 10/10 and will be returning! read more

Came here on a Saturday morning around 9. We ordered "the works" panini split to share and they did one side with no cheese for us. The works comes with bacon, egg, avocado and cheese. The lady working the register was really friendly and gave us an extra cookie when we used the check in offer. There are two tables inside and a booth plus 3 tables outside. We seated ourselves and the food came out pretty quickly. The panini tasted great and it was a pretty filling for only being half! definitely worth a visit. Sunny Side Kitchen is a quaint little breakfast/lunch restaurant just off the corner of Orange and Second St. They offer outdoor and indoor seating but it is limited. However, they do have a few picnic tables out back as well. When you walk in you will see their busy kitchen. You order at the counter and they will bring the food to you. They also offer takeout as well. The staff was very friendly. We got there around 11:30 on Saturday and the place was hopping. I had the Wake-up Escondido sandwich and it was yummy. My sandwich had shredded chicken with hot sauce on it, on top of baked egg, dill pickle slices, cheese, and micro greens on a crunch toasted bread. Since it was Saturday they had freshly made cinnamon rolls, which my daughter loved! And we both just had ice tea. They did also offer fresh lemonade and strawberry lemonade which both sounded great. You'll know if I think a restaurant is outstanding by how quickly I write a Yelp review about my experience. Obviously, how quickly I wrote my review about Sunny Side Kitchen and the 5-star rating should be a clear indicator that my first experience with Sunny Side was a GREAT one. I've had Sunny Side bookmarked on Yelp for a long time ever since I heard they received the 2017 and 2018 Yelp Top 100 restaurants distinction. Once the Coronavirus restriction for in person dining was lifted, I wanted my first dine in experience to be at Sunny Side and I'm so blessed that I ate there. Sunny Side is located in the heart of Escondido, CA where Valley Parkway and 2nd Avenue meet. GPS will get you here easily, but to give you further clarification of where they're located, the restaurant is literally straight down the road from the Regal Escondido movie theater. There's also a Chase Bank closeby. Sunny Side is a charming restaurant that is in between other small businesses. It's a local Mom and Pop restaurant that caters to locals, but based on their Yelp 100 accolade, I'm sure like me, foodies flock to this restaurant. Inside, the decor gives off a country vibe with bright yellow, checkered flooring, wood paneling on the walls and kitchen area, and distressed wood tables and white chairs. Sunny Side is a small restaurant, so it would be difficult to have a large party inside or outside of the restaurant. There is seating inside and multiple tables outside. They are allowing in person dining and still require wearing masks, but you can take off your mask while you're eating. The process to order, which I'm not sure if this has always been the process, is to check out their menu and place your order at the register. I experienced myself an aspect of I'm sure is the allure of Sunny Side, which is the hospitable and "the diner is important" customer service from the owners, Kate and Bob. Kate was so friendly over the phone when I called to ask about in person dining and the two of them are even more friendlier in person. I didn't even know them and they made feel like I've been friends with them for awhile. I will be returning for the customer service alone. Customer service was notable, but the food was divine. I bookmarked this restaurant because of the 5 star rating and the deluge of positive reviews, which I totally concur. Please keep in mind that Sunny Side does not serve traditional breakfast such as eggs, hash browns, bacon, pancakes, or biscuits and gravy. One of my first questions before I ordered was whether they had biscuits and gravy because I wanted to compare to other restaurants, but that is not their forte. Sunny Side is known for their panini sandwiches and they sell breakfast paninis. For my breakfast I ordered The Works Breakfast Panini, which has havarti and muenster cheeses, plus smashed ripe avocado, naturally hardwood smoked, honey cured, center cut bacon, baked egg, and a sprinkle of shredded parmesan and Italian seasoning, encapsulated between grilled artisan sourdough bread with the bread lightly brushed with butter and olive oil. The sandwich comes with a shot of different fruit. I'm 6'3" and 215lbs, so don't compare what will fill me up to what a normal size person would fill up on. You are not going to be stuffed, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients is why people flock to this restaurant. The bread alone is why I'm returning with my family to try their other sandwiches. My The Works breakfast panini was luscious, finger licking, and every single bite made me want to savor the deliciousness in my mouth. The perfect crunch of each bite combined with the tasty avocado, melted cheese, and the cooked right bacon validated why Sunny Side was on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants for two years in a row. The small side of fruit was a great touch, but what was amazing was the bite size cookies Kathy gave me as a first time visit gift. Note to self, make sure to order those cookies on my next visit. I didn't even realize they sell cookies, but I will make sure to order them next time. To commemorate my almost two month exile from being able to eat inside a restaurant, I decided to try one of my bookmarked restaurants. Thanks and Praise God that Sunny Side Kitchen was my first in person dining experience because now I know from personal experience why Sunny Side was selected as a Yelp Top 100 Restaurant.
